Eating at Rolf and Daughters and Silver Sands Cafe. Nashville Day 1

- I eat at and review a couple of restaurants in Nashville, Tennessee. After arriving in the city, I have lunch at Silver Sands Café, which is a classic spot for southern cuisine and soul food. The restaurant is also a notable establishment for meat and three. Then I tour the Tennessee State Museum before getting coffee at the Nashville Farmers' Market. Next, I check into my hotel, the Knights Inn Nashville. Finally, I have dinner at the highly regarded Rolf and Daughters in the Germantown neighborhood of the city. The restaurant is most famous for their pasta.

How much I admire your enthusiasm and persistence in growing your RUclips channel. I have followed you since your beginnings and just as I once told you here, the tourism authorities should reward you for spreading special places and flavors, which one day we will visit thanks to your work. Finally, I wish you to continue growing more every day, and let's dream of reaching 100 thousand subscribers soon. You deserve it a lot.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate the continued support! It means a lot to me!
If ever a RUclips channel deserves $1m+ subscribers, it's James Andrews.
Thank you so much! I really appreciate that! Maybe one day!
James does a great job

Hoppy I couldn't agree more.
I love Rolf and Daughters. One of my favorite pasta dishes. If you ever go back, don't miss the roast chicken. Excited for part 2. Hopefully you hit Audrey or June.
It's a great restaurant for sure! I'll keep the chicken in mind if I ever go back. Yeah, towards the end of my trip I went to Audrey and it was an incredible meal. I'll have a video about that one too.
I stayed at a Knights Inn once... the carpet was red and the beds had purple comforters. It's nice to see they updated the rooms!! Great video and review!
Thank you so much! Yeah, I was a little skeptical of how the room would be, but it ended up being a nice stay.
Thoroughly enjoyable from start to finish. Days are always better when your channel pop's up. Tennessee is truly a state of history and culture so I can't wait to share in the rest of your adventure. Thank you for putting in the time and effort to film, edit and post for all o fus.
Thank you so much for watching! The effort is always worth it if people get enjoyment out of them.
Very nice! Look forward to seeing more of your trip!😊.
Thank you!
Always a pleasure- Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Your videos unfold like great stories! The background music adds another amazing dimension. This was one of your best in my opinion ❤
Thank you! I really appreciate it! I always try to create the best video possible.
I've dined at Rolf and Daughters a hundred times and never had a bad dish. Its always innovative and thoughtfully put together. Its simply one of the best restaurants in the country and they deserve all the good they can get. Thanks for dining there !
Nice! Yeah, I really enjoyed that restaurant and I definitely want to go back there the next time I'm in Nashville.
Love your channel James !.......Keep it up ...Greetings from Iceland
Thanks so much!
Ahhh so now we know how you keep in such good shape. The seaweed butter sounded fascinating. Never had that before. I really enjoy your reviews on food and restaurants. Looks like the Marathon was in the summer vs the current winter weather. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! Yeah, I'm a pretty big runner. Indeed, that seaweed butter was awesome! This was back in the fall, but that was a crazy weekend of weather. One day it felt like fall, the next summer, and finally winter.
Thank you for another great video and taking us to Nashville! That pasta looked so good and you're right .. reminded me of Cacio e Pepe. The fish also so tender. Really interesting side dish of the Cabbage and rice. Hope you ran a great Marathon !!
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it! Yeah, that was a great meal with the pasta being the highlight, but that fish was excellent as well! I didn't get the best time on the marathon, but it ended up being a great day regardless.
@@Jamesnu hey, you get credit from me for just running the marathon!! Glad you had a wonderful time.🙏🏼😊
@@MebsTejpar-ty6ct Thank you!
Off subject but referring to your "My NYC Apartment Tour. $1,460 a Month in Astoria, Queens" video... I'm 80 years old and lived in Manhattan from 1972 through 2002. We were very lucky to be there at a time to afford a 2000 square foot raw loft space where I built our three bedroom home. Today it's impossible to do this. So, I understand what @GoodfellasNYC means when he says get out of NYC. I realize you're your own man and have your own plans, but in retrospect my only advice is to somehow get your own property in an affordable area outside of expensive urban areas. When you get into your 50's and 60's you will be very thankful for that investment. I loved Manhattan, but now having a peaceful and interesting place in rural NH is a blessing we appreciate more than ever. Again, I am enjoying your new-found channel... thanks.
Thank you so much and I really appreciate the advice! Yes, owning property is something that I definitely have in mind for the future. Right now however, I'm happy to be in the city, but it's indeed important to make plans.
Hi James, Nashville has changed so much over the last 15 years it's no longer a place I go. Back when we used to go there, it was still a bustling place with lots to do and a ton of great food. As the west coast music execs and musicians flooded the city, it became so densely populated and over crowded I stopped visiting. Don't get wrong, I love the music scene there. Some of the top session players in the world live there now. I digress, your honest review about Rolf's was great my friend. Looking forward to see how you do in the marathon. It's been years since I ran one, but to me, it's the ultimate self challenge. My goal was to finish, not so much the time. Cheers
Cheers and thank you! Yeah, it was pretty clear to me that the city was going through a change and was pretty touristy, which I feel can be both good and bad. Still, I enjoyed a very nice trip and I'm looking forward to sharing more of my experience in future videos.
lol turning into next Austin. Californication trashed that place.
I’m not sure if I can agree. People should be glad that Nashville has grown even if it’s turned corporate. Be glad that Nashville has not turned into a ghost town like Memphis or St. Louis or Little Rock Arkansas. Many cities in the south and Midwest have become abandoned with population loss. Population shift has turned to the suburbs so be glad if a city has grown even if it’s overrated and kinda lame
@@ramencurry6672 ramen, from that standpoint, I have to 100% agree with you. We haven't been to Memphis in over a decade. Last time we were there it was in very sad shape. So yeah, I think you're spot on. Seeing once great American cities in ruins makes me very sad for sure.
Wow that meal was amazing just like your revrews rhank you
It was a great meal indeed, and thank you for watching!
I would have never thought to stay at the motel but not bad!! A great city with even more than was shown here
I know what you mean, but that was pretty much all I could afford, but luckily things worked out.
Cabbage is having a bit of a season in the sun, though that's mostly thanks to hispi - interesting to see good old-fashioned Savoy is still out there too!
Yeah, it went really well on the plate.
Another great video, good luck on your marathon bro! ❤
Thank you!
Great video. I loved Nashville when I went there, fun city.
Thank you! Yeah, it's a fun city for sure!
I've been binge watching your channel and looking forward to the rest (if any) Nashville episode's!
Thank you! Yeah, there will be more Nashville videos, but I'll also be posting stuff from NYC in the meantime.
That food looked really Good!!!
It was great!
Rolf & Daughters should meet up with Russ & Daughters, lol, nice review
Haha! Thank you!
I had knee surgery a few weeks ago and somehow your channel popped up on my ,no pun intended, feed. It was a double edged sword. I loved your positivity , enthusiasm and your production quality. But it kinda made my toaster oven meals loose alot.
Thanks for watching along! I really appreciate it! I hope you're recovering well from your surgery.
Travel days are never easy, but if you can endure 26.2 miles running, I know you'll recover quickly. The dinner looked awesome, and a mid day shot of espresso is always welcome in my book! Safe travels, and go kill your PR!
Thank you! Yeah, the first day on a trip can be both tough and memorable. It was definitely made easier and more enjoyable with all that food I had. Plus, that espresso was a life saver.
My first time in Nashville I ate at Rolf and it was awesome! Next time you’re there you must go to The Catbird Seat - really special place.
Nice! Thank you also for that recommendation because I definitely want to return to Nashville in the future.
I just discovered your videos and I love them! I was excited to see this new one! Please keep em coming! ( I love food too!)😊
Thank you so much for the support!
The fish omg looks so good.
It was really tasty!
Welcome to Nashville! Big fan my friend
Thank you so much!
Welcome to our city!
Thank you!
Lovely ❤
Thank you!
Awesome video james. Always fun to explore a new city. Did a half marathon once, never again lol. Not much of a runner.food looked great. Good luck with your marathon.
Thank you so much!
The amount of walking you must have completed ahead of your marathon already seems like quite the achievement!
Thank you! Yeah, a lot of the places I went to that day were pretty far apart from each other.
That pasta looked delicious as well as the fish a satisfying dish! I hope you enjoyed your time in Nashville. Keep the videos coming!
Thank you! Yeah, that pasta dish was one of the best pastas I had all of last year.
Really nice meals, both of them❤
My go to purge that midday slump was always a long pour double espresso... Quality above quantity. I hope you enjoyed your stay there and your marathon. 👍🏃♂️😊
Thank you! Yeah, it was a great trip. Indeed, espresso is just necessary during the middle of the day.
Next time go to Swett's for another great Meat + Three.
I randomly stumbled into the Tennessee State Museum and was blown away with the quality and exhibits given it was completely free!
Thanks for the recommendation! Yeah, that museum was really well done and since it's free, it's the perfect activity.
Hi James, beautiful video and very informative ! So now we know how and why you can eat such a big amount of food - you're a marathon runner ! Sorry, but I have to ask you this question - 'Is it safe ?' Ha, ha ! I'd love to try those two restaurants if I lived in America. Food looked delicious at both places. You'll have to show us some of your marathon races, James. Thanks for the video, and keep well !
Thank you so much! Yeah, I found Nashville to be safe for the most part, although it's not a perfect city. I'll have a video in the future where I showcase the day I ran the race and the ton of food I ate and drank after.
Hi James, thanks for your reply. When I asked 'Is it safe ?' I was alluding to the Dustin Hoffman / Laurence Olivier movie from the 70's 'Marathon Man'. Check it out when you have some time. You'll enjoy it !
Hopefully, I'm not the only 65 year old who subscribes to your channel ! We like to think that the future is in good hands with young men like you. All the best !@@Jamesnu
@@user-rr1zt5go4q Thank you so much! I got it. Yeah, that's a film that I should definitely check out.
I’m a long time Nashville native. Glad you enjoyed!
Nice! Yeah, it was a great trip!
Welcome to Tennessee.
Thank you!
Yes the food at Silver Sand's Soul food is the best!!!!
It was so good!
DELICIOUS!
😋😋😋😋😋
Safe Journey!
Yellowbird Blue Agave Sriracha!!!
Thank you! It was excellent!
I absolutely LOVE Nashville
I had such a great time there! I'll share more of my experiences in future videos.
Early Texians as they called back then were from Tenn. Hence the Vols moniker.
Interesting.
I agree about layovers. I was in Hawaii for 4 hours when traveling to Asia. At least we got to see the crystal clear waters by the beach when flying over. But as far as "visiting", this just didn't count.
Indeed! I feel the same way.
That pasta looks incredible! The shape reminds me of silver pin noodles (yin zhen fen) that we used to get at Three Happiness in Chicago's Chinatown.
Yeah, that was one of the best pasta dishes that I had last year. It really was a nice shape.
Really surprised about your experience at the Knight's Inn. I have stayed at a few in Florida where I had to bring Febreeze and make sure the deadbolt was locked tight. :) I enjoy your videos and experiences.
Thank you so much! Yeah, I was worried about how my stay was going to be. I think I was lucky with regards to where my room was in the building, which was a bit off to the side so it was pretty quiet.
Nashville is one of the good flyover cities.
I definitely enjoyed it there.
This totally surprised me. I have seen your face online, going to some fancy restaurants: handsome, slick. I haven't watched them. I checked this out, and I was so wrong: you are a nice guy, and I would respect/enjoy hearing about your opinions in future. I will check out the videos that I dismissed.
Thank you! I appreciate it!
First Viewer
Thank you so much! You didn't have to do that, but I really appreciate it!
Looks like you had a good time the weather was beautiful the food looked amazing at both places and your room was beautiful have a great week and good luck on the race 😊❤
Thank you! Yeah, that really was a great first day of my trip.
Your welcome 🤗
As a dude who also run marathon. I appreciate this
Thank you!
Great job once again, James. Since you're into marathons AND food, you should look into The Flying Pig Marathon in Cincinnati. I believe it's in May every year. You've got a free place to stay with my wife and I in our 3rd bedroom. There's numerous choices of restaurants near here plus the Air Force Museum at Wright Patterson AFB. Give it some thought.
Thank you! Yeah, I've heard a lot about that marathon. It might be one that I'll do in the future. Plus, you're right, there are definitely some good attractions to see and places to dine at.
Nice video..😊
Thank you so much!
Nice first day in a new city to visit! Looking forward to hearing about the marathon. Where was the third side in the first restaurant?
It was definitely a great start to my trip! The third side would've been bread, but I just stuck with the two since I knew I had that early dinner.
❤️👍
Thank you!

Your voice (you explaining) is ...... Almost Calming but music is distracting. Be perfect if it weren't for that.
Anyway binge watching the rest of your Videos.😋
@@nursemena8703 Thank you!
Looking forward to seeing what other Nashville places you try. I must say, though, $23 for that little plate of pasta? And $8 for bread service? Quite expensive in my opinion, but if you enjoyed it I guess that's what really counts.
Thank you! Yeah, it was probably one of the more expensive restaurants in Nashville, but it was very good.
Now you can't leave us hanging - how did the marathon go? Especially after all those carbs!
It was alright. The heat really got to me, but I'll share the full experience and the ridiculous amount of food and drinks I had afterwards in a future video.
Love your videos and plan to visit New Orleans in the near future....my only criticism is that you should never have your knife facing upwards, it is considered bad form and very rude, other than that well done and I hope you did well in the marathon!
Thank you so much! The marathon was fun and I will showcase my experience in a future video.
✊🏻 thx
Thanks for watching!
also how long does it take for you to make your videos? they are very well made!
Thank you! It depends on the video. Most of the time I spend doing research and writing the dialogue. The editing isn't too bad. I would say about 20 hours for each video.
Hey James, how many states have you traveled to in total?
I think about 25. Some of those visits have been pretty brief though.
Does this Rolf and daughter connected to NYC Rolf’s? Is German restaurant on 22nd and Lex. By way should go there is pretty tasty especially wurst platter.
I don't think so, but yeah, I definitely have to check out Rolf's sometime.
Thought you might get together with a guitarist and compose a song about the ‘New Yawker in Nashville’.
Haha! Next time!
Ever consider creating a “how i film my reviews” video? (recording, editing, etc)
I might incorporate that into a video someday.
A lot of people fleeing CA moving to Nashville.
It seems like a lot of people are moving there.
What was your time and finish?
I think it was about 3 hours and 24 minutes. It wasn't my best performance. I'll showcase it in a future video.
What was the time?
For the marathon, it was 3 hours and 24 minutes something I think. It wasn't my best performance.
really appreciate your honesty, instead of just fan-boying. btw, i hope they mentioned New York for tap water.
Thank you! Indeed, NYC was mentioned as having some of the best tap water, which I agree with.
Tap water gross! gives me a headache instantly. I switched to only drinking raw milk years ago despite being lactose intolerant now drink a gallon a day and never get thirsty or feel the need to drink water(milk is mostly water but actually much more utilizable by the cells unlike tap water 15%)
Nice!
Is it just me or is the mackerel tiny.
It's a small portion for sure. I'm glad I got that bread because otherwise I would've still been hungry.
Didn’t know you ean marathons . No wonder you stay skinny while chowing down. Isn’t Nashville home of the Hot Brown Sandwich?
I think that sandwich might actually be from Louisville, Kentucky, but Nashville is definitely home to hot chicken.
@@Jamesnu D'oh! 😳
Way over priced! This is Nashville, NOT New York!
Yeah, that's the problem, I'm used to NYC and I wasn't familiar with how things are typically priced there. Rolf and Daughters definitely felt costly considering how small the portions were, but I mostly enjoyed it.
