  • It can be difficult to tell sometimes whether or not your vocal cords have been damaged. All vocalists should be aware of these telltale signs - and remember there is no such thing as a raspy voice. #QandAwithMamaJ

So true. I had these symptoms for a month and then lost my voice. Doctor said to have vocal cord rest for 3-4 weeks. Now sounding like my normal self again, thank goodness I got it checked out. 😊

Yup my range is closing in and I can’t go up in range without having this closing affect. The fluidity in my voice is kinda weak. I get hoarse easily when talking.

I have to clear my throat all the time, and my head voice notes sound broken and I cannot get them to be loud and with vibrato (as opera singers do) and my higher subharmonic notes are also cracking a lot, and sometimes I feel and hear this odd snapping / clicking sound in my throat when singing the higher coloratura notes and my higher notes are delayed a bit, and, when I try singing lightly it’s like the voice doesn’t want to come out easily, which feels like a chronic thing as I’ve always had that, and there is a constant air flow / exhale sound whenever I sing in head voice, but I don’t really have the constant chatter (that is associated with nodules) at all, so, how can I tell if this is vocal damage or just chronic hoarseness or something else? (By the way, I can sing from C6 to C8 in actual head voice and I can belt A5 in chest voice, as I have the highest voice ever with the whitest / lightest / brightest tone ever, my vocal type being sopranino with coloratura subtype, but over the past few days I couldn’t sing most of my 7th octave notes, and they kept cracking and going into polyphonic pitches, though I can still sing the 6th octave notes and my lowest chest voice notes like A1 and G1 with humming technique and around A0 with subharmonic technique without cracking, but my mixed voice and my chest voice don’t sound good at all when humming and have an odd tone that shouldn’t be there!)
