That was a very good and useful watch I have to say, you've given me some ideas to try for my own unit so I thank you for that, I'm surprised you got it to run so smoothly on such a small radius so hats off to you for that! Also glad to see you had as much difficulty as I did getting it out of the packaging sleeve!
I got the Class 320 model at Model Rail Scotland, and had no end of trouble with it. The 1st model had no lighting in the 1st coach, the 2nd model had a broken coupling, but the 3rd seemed far better after running (and rerailing) it for an hour in each direction. The couplings seem to be hindered by the cables attached to them (for inter connectivity) and this makes them derail on corners. The heaver motorized coach also seems to 'lift' whichever coach is in front of it slightly off the track, which causes problems with the internal lighting, so I ended up switching them off. Ive also been told, as you've mentioned, that the back-to-backs are a bit tight, but haven't measured them myself. One last thing, its far easier to connect them together if you lay the model on its side ;)
I found that the motor car rides slightly lower, and it see saws the adjacent carriages off the rails. It has been a nightmare, the video took three hours to get it to run right.
What a shame. It is such a sharp model- finely detailed, lit well... and how this issue passes quality control is beyond me. Seen it with 2 companies and several of the models using this coupling style. I know the brands I follow do not have this issue in HO or N, so not sure why it is not working. Otherwise, one is stuck with KATO if one wants to be assured of quality in N-Scales.
A model like this at this scale needs to come in a long box and be permanently coupled, if they intend on the model being so complex. The biggest issue would be shipping as they would be awkward to deliver and you would have to make damn sure the box can’t be snapped in half by accident in transit. Meanwhile I bet the Farish 319 will be fantastic and equally as detailed.
Lilliput make some models permanently coupled up, they manage shipping just fine. Thanks for the comment, as I actually didn't think of that, and I agree!
Great review Nick, interesting that we’re all having similar issues with the 321, it’s a lovely model but the coupling system seems to be causing problems.
The RT class 321 is undoubtably a lovely model, just such a shame that every video Ive seen shows continual derailing due to the couplings. What’s wrong with the standard rapido couplings used for years? Im looking forward to the mark 5s but dread what the running quality will be like.
it does seem to be every single one of them, just glad I had the patience to rectify part of it. It;s still not great. I dread to see what the mk5s are like also. I will order from them in 00 gauge in the future, but I'll give any new n gauge a miss.
Yep, very much considering cancelling my pre-order from Rails now, your’s is not the first video where the 321 has sensative running, with my double slips i don’t stand a chance :)
I had to take my MRS 320 back twice before I got one that wasnt broken and ran (almost) perfectly. In fact I insisted on them letting me run my 3rd unit on their demo track to see it before I walked away again...
Hiya Nick , Great Video and looking forward / Dreading getting mine ( i have 2 ordered a NSE and Silverlink ) You mentioned screws under the carriages do these actually control the movement of both the bogies and couplings ?? And loosen them off to the point of more movement and play for going round corners . As all the Videos i have seen all have the same Problem but your video seem to give me some idea as to what to do if i have the same problem . The couplings do seem a bit Heavy Duty for my liking especially for N Gauge
Yes the screws that attach the bogies, also screws in to the chassis and the interior and sandwiches everything together, and between those is the coupling mechanism in a pocket, sandwiched. It would of been better that the bogies used a different screw to the coupling, the way it is now, it's all just one big compromise.
I took it to pieces, and then put it all back together adjusting the screw tension gradually to work out how much play can be accommodated. It works better still now since it has ran in all day today, but it's still not great.
I think these Revolution models with the electric wired couplers are a disaster. Someone, somewhere should just own up and declare that they're just not functional. There is an argument that many owners may be running them on track where the radius is insufficient to "hold" them, but the couplings are just too rigid. Run them over complex trackwork (points and crossings) and they just die. It's a shame because they are lovely looking models, but you'll get no peace watching them stumbling along the track. They remind me of the split gears problem that have dogged us for years because Farish never owned up to the quality of the material used. The owners of Revolution should come clean on this issue. These products are so expensive and yet so unreliable. And yet again, as many other modelers state, Kato products just run and run and..............
I would send it back if I were in the UK, unfortunately I am in Ireland and I'd have to pay shipping and customs fees. So I gave it my best shot at home. Thanks for watching!

Thank you! Yes I thought it was taped in, in the box for a short while lol
That definitely looks good. Absolutely a great class 321 london midland, a cracking job with sound noises as well.
Thanks!
@@Rule1ModelRailways most welcome, my pleasure
Sadly the sounds are incorrect, particularly the horn sound. I used to drive these so I know them well...
Great looking 321 👍🏻
Thanks!
Back to N gauge - excellent!
For now!

Kato for sure is the way forward in n gauge.

Indeed it is, if that can be remedied it would be a lovely model.

My 320 was just the same :(

@@Rule1ModelRailways I don’t blame you, but I understand Acurascale are making both OO and N

Double slips probably are out of scope for this model I'd say.
Hi Nick - so glad I didn't purchase the 320 version at MRS. Surely Revolution must have known about these basic running problems? Cheers Euan
I had to take my MRS 320 back twice before I got one that wasnt broken and ran (almost) perfectly. In fact I insisted on them letting me run my 3rd unit on their demo track to see it before I walked away again...
@@queenscentralmodelrailway poor show from Revolution!
You did a good job there Euan, they're difficult to get working right.

Wish the greater Anglia class 321 could come to TSW4 on ps4 and ps5
Hi Nick. Sorry, how did you fix the sticking couplings, was it just a matter of running in?
I took it to pieces, and then put it all back together adjusting the screw tension gradually to work out how much play can be accommodated. It works better still now since it has ran in all day today, but it's still not great.
Those flickering lights are annoying after all you had to do. Think I’ll give one a miss, was tempted until I saw this video

Indeed. I had to switch layouts mid way through the video as they just wouldn't run over points, even when on dead straight track.
i no what i would do send it back like you told me when i told you about my bachmann model it now runs ok not good when pay out good money derek
