Plymouth was a brand of automobiles produced by Chrysler Corporation and its successor DaimlerChrysler. The brand was launched in 1928 to compete in what was then described as the "low-priced" market segment that was dominated by Chevrolet and Ford. It became the high-volume seller for the automaker until the late 1990s. Plymouth cars were marketed primarily in the United States. The brand was withdrawn from the marketplace in 2001. The Plymouth models that were produced up to then were either discontinued or rebranded as Chrysler or Dodge.
While the original purpose of the Plymouth was to serve the lower end of a booming automobile market, during the Great Depression of the 1930s, the division helped significantly in ensuring the survival of the Chrysler Corporation when many other car companies failed. Beginning in 1930, Plymouths were sold by all three Chrysler divisions (Chrysler, DeSoto, and Dodge).[6] Plymouth sales were a bright spot during this dismal automotive period, and by 1931 Plymouth rose to number three in sales among all cars.[7] In 1931 with the Model PA, the company introduced floating power and boasted, "The smoothness of an eight - the economy of a four."[8]
In 1933, Chrysler decided to catch up with Ford and Chevrolet in engine cylinder count. The 190 cu in (3.1 L) version of Chrysler's flathead-six engine was equipped with a downdraft carburetor and installed in the new 1933 Plymouth PC, introduced on November 17, 1932. However, Chrysler had reduced the PC's wheelbase from 112 to 107 in (284.5 to 271.8 cm), and the car sold poorly. By April 1933, the Dodge division's Model DP chassis, with a 112-inch (284.5 cm) wheelbase, was put under the PC body with DP front fenders, hood, and radiator shell. The model designation was advanced to 'PD'. The PC was redesigned to look similar to the PD and became the 'Standard Six' (PCXX). It had been the 'Plymouth Six' at introduction, and was sold through to the end of 1933, but in much lower numbers. In 1937, Plymouth (along with the other Chrysler makes) added safety features such as flat dash boards with recessed controls and the back of the front seat padded for the rear seat occupants[9]
The PC was shipped overseas to Sweden, Denmark, and the UK, as well as Australia. In the UK, it was sold as a 'Chrysler Kew', the town of Kew being the location of the Chrysler factory outside London. The flathead six which started with the 1933 Model PC stayed in the Plymouth until the 1959 models.
In 1939, Plymouth produced 417,528 vehicles, of which 5,967 were two-door convertible coupes[10] with rumble seats. The 1939 convertible coupe was prominently featured at Chrysler's exhibit at the 1939 New York World's Fair, advertised as the first mass-production convertible with a power folding top. It featured a 201 cu in (3.3 L), 82 hp (61 kW; 83 PS) version of the flathead six engine.
For much of its life, Plymouth was one of the top-selling American automobile brands; it, together with Chevrolet and Ford, was commonly referred to as the "low-priced three" marques in the American market.[11] Plymouth almost surpassed Ford in 1940 and 1941 as the second-most popular make of automobiles in the U.S.
The Plymouth De Luxe and Special De Luxe were full-sized automobiles which were produced by American manufacturer Plymouth during the 1941-42 and 1946-50 model years.
The De Luxe was offered in two trim levels, the De Luxe and the top-of-the-line Special De Luxe.[2] The engine in 1946 was a 95 bhp (71 kW) 217.8 cu in (3.6 L) inline-six.[3] In 1949 this engine was upgraded to produce 97 bhp (72 kW).

The 41 Plymouth is a Really nice kit. Builders Beaware the Grille Surround needs minor adjustment but carefull work of test fit. Work and retest fit will make it really nice. FYI on tge Edges where it Glued in I filled it with putty upon Sanding the Detail strip was lost. But I fixed mine w Stretched Sprue Rod. Then Chrome Foiled after painting this was the only Fiddly spot of the Build. It builds really nice

I took the stock engine from this kit, and put it in my AMT 1963 Chevy II Nova Station Wagon, as it's one of those "curbside" kits. Looks slick under the hood seeing a 40's 4cyl. :D

    • @CamaroAmx
      @CamaroAmx Год назад

Yeah for whatever reason they put a Chevy in this kit as the v8 option. I wouldn’t be surprised if the inline six is also from anther manufacturer other then Chrysler.

I recently picked this kit up. (Not the Coca Cola edition) I decided to make a moonshine runner and use a Firedome Hemi from another kit. The back story is two hillbilly moonshiners in the 50's found this Plymouth coupe and acquired a Firedome Hemi out of a recently totaled De Soto they found in the local boneyard that should have no problem outrunning the law with a trunk full of white lightning

My grandfather actually had a 49 Plymouth (very similar to the 41) with a swapped in first Gen hemi back in the late 50s. It was his street racer. My grandmother painted the car black with a paint roller. Wish he had kept it. So your idea has a legit real world example.

This is by far the best looking weathered, patina job I think you have done. It's AMAZING, I've been waiting for you to do this kit because I really love the box art and Coke stuff and it's a 40s Plymouth I mean who doesn't want 1. I waited because I didn't want to buy it and be disappointed with the lack of detail and parts like a couple others that will not be named. But it's WOW !!!! Thank you for sharing your builds. I absolutely love it. This would make a great diorama car, just the way you built it. Put it on the lift, engine on engine stand, then newly painted body panels from another kit on the saw horses. One new rim propped against a scratch made box, three other sealed boxes, then tires on the tire stand. And, of course, a vintage Coke machine, with crates of Coke stacked against it! I look at the car you built and see teenager's first car, or maybe an auto shop car.
Beautiful work. You really nailed it. Like you, my models have a history.

On a side note. 40s and 50s Chrysler cars are great buys. You can find cars that haven't been messed with and at great prices because old Chrysler, Plymouth and Dodge cars were never popular with collectors or hot rodders.

And there is no mistaken those front grilles belong to a Plymouth. It's a shame that you don't see vary many in the real world because they really are beautiful and full of caracter.

Chassis' that are molded such as that makes up a totally solid body to grab. I am impressed with two engines. Looks like a solid kit with that interior tub plus chassis. A very attractive kit. Front axle? Meh. I like the spraying music. You are the Bob Ross of scale modeling.

Chrysler Corp which included Plymouth, was the number 2 automaker behind GM. Ford was number 3. Plymouth was an easy driving, smooth riding, well-engineered car.

Cool project, works very well as an "in-progress" custom hot rod. I wouldn't mind building this up, take it any direction and part of me wants to build that gas station in the back too!

My grandfather had a 49 Plymouth with swapped in 1st Gen hemi back in the late 50s. Wish he kept it.
I considered buying this kit because I haven’t found a 49 plymouth (very similar but has a different grill). But I’ll have to find a kit with a first Gen hemi in it.
I do have a partial 70 super bee kit with a hemi….. maybe I might substitute it instead.
