The Dodge Dart is a line of automobiles marketed by Dodge from the 1959 to 1976 model years in North America, with production extended to later years in various other markets.
The Dart name originally appeared on a 1956 Chrysler show car featuring a streamlined body designed by the Italian coachbuilder Carrozzeria Ghia that was later modified and renamed the Dart Diablo.[1] The production Dart was introduced as a lower-priced, full-size Dodge in 1960 and 1961, became a mid-size car for 1962, and then was a compact from 1963 to 1976.[2][3]
The Dart nameplate was resurrected for a Fiat-derived compact car that was introduced in 2012
1976 was the Dart's final year in the North-American market. The rear-view mirror was mounted on the windshield rather than from the roof. Front disc brakes became standard equipment on 1 January 1976 in accord with more stringent U.S. federal brake-performance requirements, a new 2-spoke steering wheel debuted and a new foot-operated parking brake replaced the under-dash T-handle used since the Dart's 1963 introduction as a compact car. The grille's parking lamps were cast in amber, whereas the previous years had clear lenses with amber-colored bulbs.
The Dart Sport 360 was dropped as a separate model in 1976, but the 360 cu in (5.9 L) four-barrel, dual exhaust (without catalytic converters) V8 was a $376 option (except in California) for the $3,370 Dart Sport V8 models with automatic transmission.[40] Car & Driver magazine tested the Dart Sport 360 in the April 1976 issue, pitting it against the Chevrolet Corvette and Pontiac Trans Am, and found its top speed of 121.6 mph (195.7 km/h) to be second to the Corvette's 124.5 mph (200.4 km/h)
For 1973 and 1974, the "Convertriple" option on the Dart Sport included a fold-down rear seat/security panel offering 6 ft 5 in (1.96 m) of lengthwise space, and a manually operated metal sunroof.[42] It was advertised as "three cars in one": an economy compact, a convertible alternative because of the sunroof, and a roomy station wagon alternative because of the fold down rear seat.[43][44]
1975 Hang 10
The Convertriple was the basis for the 1975 "Hang 10" option.[45] It was aimed at surfers in an attempt by Dodge marketers to better determine consumer preferences in a declining performance market.[46] Hang ten is a surfing expression for balancing at the end of a surfboard with ten toes over the nose of the board while riding the wave. Available only in eggshell white exterior with a factory-installed sunroof, the car's fold-down rear seat permitted the loading of a surfboard through the trunk. The Hang 10 option continued the surfing theme with various colored stripe material accenting the white vinyl seats and door panels.[47] Orange shag carpet covered the back of the fold-down rear seat while the dash and center console had orange accents.[47] Red and blue exterior stripes started at the quarter panels with a wave-riding surfer graphic. A surfboard design ran down the center of the hood. Between the taillights, the stripe pattern fattened into surfboard-shaped letters that spelled out "Hang 10"
In a tie-in with the United States Bicentennial, a "Spirit of '76" edition of the Dart Sport featured white paint with prominent red and blue bodyside striping meant to evoke the image of the American flag.
Although racers like Dick Landy and Don Garlits had modified Darts in the mid-1960s to run in the National Hot Rod Association - NHRA funny car class using the 426 Hemi, super stock class racing of the Dart was almost non-existent due to the small V-8s available. In 1968, Dodge contracted Hurst Performance to build a limited number of Darts powered by the 440 cu in (7.2 l) RB big-block and 426 cu in (7.0 l) Hemi-powered Darts to compete in the SS/B class as the LO23 "Hurst Hemi Dart". According to Chrysler staff engineer Larry Shepard, the majority of these Darts were Hemi powered, although a small pilot run of fifty 440-powered Darts were also built in 1968.[53] "In 1969," said Shepard, "we built over 600 440-powered Darts-basically the same as the 383 GTS, except for the engine. - Авто/Мото
I love your build philosophy. Build for you build it how you want it it’s your model. I do it the same way. Keep up the great work and being so inspirational. Thank you!
Thanks a lot! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!
Lots of 70-76, Challengers, Dusters, Demons/ Darts, and Cudas, running in NHRA Stock, and Super Stock, Eliminators. The fastest car show on earth! Neat kit.
Chris, i loved the story that went along with this! It made this one come alive. If you started driving in the 80s, you knew someone who had a car like this
Afternoon Chris, I love the 70' chinese mustard yellow color. Just like the refrigerator colors when I was a kid.......to cool a color.
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Yep! Very true. My folks had one in that yellow color back then. If it wasn't yellow..it was that pea green color.
When I was a kid around 10 or 11yrs old I saw and fell in love with the duster.i love how it looks fast standing still.and the dart is just like it.

I did this kit a few years ago for a buddy who is in a wheel chair.i did the sitting dude and I cant remember where I got it but I found a wheel chair and put the sitting dude in it.he loved it.
I remember building this one back in the day, too. I found a can of Mopar tawny gold spray paint at the auto parts store and painted it in that with the rallye wheels like you used. Good times in the malaise era! :-)
Very Nice. I just got the 1975 Dodge Dart Sport 3-1 "Rebel Rouser" kit. Can't wait to start now...
I did that 1 last year great kit you'll enjoy building it
This build screams 70's grass roots drag racing! You've captured it perfectly!

Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
'...I love the smell of Testor's enamels in the morning...' mmm what great memories! Long before I began using acrylic craft paints, I had a couple Testors paint carousels filled with little bottle paints, two bottles of brush cleaner and 'all the fixins'- good times... I can't count how many planes, cars and ships those saw me thru. Glad to see someone still uses at least a little enamel for old times sake! :)
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!

Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
I've got the earlier " rebel rouser" version of this kit..only bought it on clearance at hobby lobby just for the two figures..the driver works great in other cars too..just dug this kit back out..contemplating building it straight out the box ..just cause of this build video here..like I need start another..but I do enjoy watching these..love your paint techniques ..especially the black primer on everything..gonna have to try that method for a different approach ..I've always used grey primer..love your back story approach as well. I used to do that too on every build when I was younger..still kinda do..but not much as most of all my builds have been parts box gluebomb rebuilds.
Thanks for watching!

Nice job. Like how that black wash came out.
Thanks for watching and taking part in the fun!
Some rubber on the rear lower 1/4 panel after doing a burnout would look great
I haven't built many cars, in fact, I've only built one since I got back into modeling (more armour and aircraft than anything) . But I do like the old iconic muscle cars and this one is a great example. Nice build, well done 👍🏻
Thanks a lot! And thanks for spending some time on the channel!

WOW, kool car kit. My neighbor back in 74 had a 1972 Dodge Demon 340 that I helped him drag race in the stock classes. That winter we modified it to run Super Stock classes. I'm going to buy this and make a copy of that car. The smell of Testors enamel paint in my youth, oh yeah! Now if they could do the glue ... yikes :( Thanks for the video!
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Fantastic
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
hello another sharp build on the dart i think it'd be nice if amt or mpc would make a dart swinger i know they make racecar versions but i have never seen a regular road car version of the squre body swinger these were dart sport duster rear , swinger front anyway i have a question i was hoping you might be the man to ask i have a old 911 dodge van kit i got it used its painted like eggshell white but they put the decals on it fake windows and such do you know of anyway to get them off without sacrifice paint and if i wanted to remove paint and all back to plastic would the castrol purple take everything off i've only used it for dechroming but i know alot of people say it removes paint also but do you know if the decals being there would effect removing the paint if i go that way the paint looks good if i could just get the decals off lol any input would be greatly appreciated thank you ps classic plastic suggested awhile back soaking it in just plain warm water awhile but that was no luck they are on there lol
Pretty cool they provide the decals for the Hang 10 and Spirt of 76 edition Darts
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Nice build Chris i got this kit haven't built it yet

All kidding aside I use to use spare parts to build my own car. Veryyyy Interesting! Now you can buy kits for that purpose. Go Figure!
Thanks for watching!
Your welcome. It was enjoyable
Coolest 76 Dart around

Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Nice work… and your comment...
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
I did the 75 MPC kit last year
great effect of the light red coat over the black primer. I'll master that technique yet. And why the silver marker on the chrome rather than a molotow pen? (After all I bought 3 of them after certain other of your videos)
Personal choice. I use molotow sometimes when I can wait for it to dry and sharpie for others when I need it dry instantly.
That is a great technique that works very good when you get the hang of it. I just painted up a Hemi with a black undercoat and it looks sweeeeet. Saved me a lot of blackwash time, too. Another simple trick I never would've thought to try if not for this channel.
@@tylerlonsdale9460 I have a 55 Chevy to do next with a six cylinder - it will be my first attempt to detail and engine. I will use this technique on it. Thanks for your note
I think I’d go with the Spirit of ‘76 theme a Google search shows these as fairly rare limited editions that are kind of rare today. Looks like all of the decals are there.
Thanks for watching!
Is there a certain size or type of brush that works best for applying the clear coat.
Any wide soft brush works fine.
Wow! I remember STP Son of A Gun 😂
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
You have some good back stories for your builds. You read my mind at the very end when you mentioned building a sleeper. It would also look good build as O' Banyon's dart in Dazed and Confused
Thanks for watching and thanks for the nice comment! Much appreciated, model on!
Great kit, great review, love this channel!
Much appreciated!
