I want to see the former squad 11 captain in the hell arc. He’s become an insane savage out for revenge after decades of living with the embarrassment of losing his squad and life to Zaraki.
That was an awesome vid. Thanks for explaining the fight in detail between him and Unohana. I was wondering why they were fighting when they were both part of the Gotei 13. That was a great view of what happened, and that is a part that I hope they expand on a bit. Who knew the healer was such a killer back in the day.
You could argue that there are two different versions of the title. The one passed down after Unohana renounced the title and the true title of Kenpachi after their duel. So only two true Kenpachis
Not going to lie but the reveal of sweet kind motherly Unohana being the first kempachi was the biggest WTF moment in bleach for me. I was so in denial that someone as sweet as Unohana could have been a kempachi. She literally jump scared me with that panel of her face in muken. I was like "OMFG!!! She really is a Kempachi?!!" Then we got some of her backstory and I was even more baffled learning she was a bloodthirsty criminal killing people without mercy, then literally mastering every healing kido just so she can heal herself and or her opponent just to continue the fight!!! Kirinji was right when he first showed up. Unohana would have been better in the field during the first invasion of the Quincy. Hell, she dominated and even KILLED multiple times, and then brought him back, Kempachi fucking Zaraki!!! I honestly wonder how yama controlled her. To me Unohana's death was the biggest mistake of Kubo and Shunsui. I know if she'd been alive and let loose she would have killed many Quincy's. The only thing I don't get is her zanpaktou. First it was a giant manta ray thing that heals people in it's stomach and then it became a blood skeleton thing? Well whatever, wasted potential with her death, no matter who stronger Zaraki became. Also I like Azashiro just because of his bankai and apparently being the weakest physically of all the kempachi. He did obtain captainship the same way Zaraki did. That's pretty cool too
Her zanpakuto is really weird since it has the same name in her shikai and bankai, the manta ray thing is her shikai and it heals people with acid, its bankai is probably a complete 180 of it, the way zaraki and unohana were turning into skeleton when she activated her bankai probably implies that that red thing that appeared when she activated her bankai was probably acid that does not heal but melts the opponent. This would make sense since it represents unohana's dual personality, on the outside, a motherly healer who tries to stay away from fights when she can and only heal (her shikai), and deep inside, a blood thirsty criminal whose bloodlust is unmatched (her bankai)
To be able to fight longer was the reason she *started* learning healing arts. It wasn't explained why she continued to heal. I believe in the end she becomes a motherly/caring lady (in her own strict way) with a love for good battles, not necessarily killing, and certainly a dark outlook, as traits like pragmatism and cynicism aren't mutually exclusive from caring.
I have a theory for the banking. With Aizen being confronted by her in the arrancar war arc. She said "ill make you feel the pain others have felt." Could that potentially mean that the healing of her shikai is actually "charges" that she collected over the years to do wound transfers in her bankai?
@@ZiraneNichol101 That is a little similar to Hanataro's shikai. The meaning of Unohana's bankai is all things end. This and how it is drawn suggest something different, I think.
@@allgoesround there are zanpakuto that behaves similar in the show already. For example Senbon Sakura and Haineko. And the guy you talk about used the absorbed wounds for a single use blast. The idea i gave was her transferring all the wounds she absorbed with the shikai's acid. And turning it into a corrosive acid, that possibly will target anyone without prejudice.
Im hyped up for the upcoming chapters of Hell Arc Hope we get introduced more of the former Captains that now inhabit Hell, specially the former Kenpachis. They'll be a monsters of an enemy.
I absolutely love the lore we have on the kenpachis at this point. Zaraki was always one of my favorite characters early on when I started the series, and I was really glad to see where the story went with him. I gotta say, kuruyashiki and unohana are probably my favorite kenpachis, both for their personalities, backstories, and unique zanpakutos.
This was interesting to watch and now I'Understand the story of Bleach. Its awesome to watch your videos everyweek 😀 they are informative and helpful 👍
I’m theorizing the previous Kenpachi(s) will be in there hell arc. They’re all dead (mostly at least) and likely would have had some sense of bloodlust considering their status. On top of that, if they were given the captains ritual, they were likely banished to hell (unknowingly of course).
Tommo, do you think you could do a review on best fights alongside the best music used for effect. For example the dome fight music is my fav for that battle, gives me goosebumps every time.
So since Unohana was the first kenpachi and wasn't killed till the tybw, then technically all kenpachi between unohana and zaraki are not kenpachi in full sense of the name, cause only when she dies does she say now you're a kenpachi.
I've looked for the LN Spirits are forever with you but all I can find is it in Japanese. I wish I could read and find out in more depth about the 7th and 8th Kenpachi. The 7th seems really interesting. The way you described him makes it seems like there r a variety of personality types that can come with the title which isn't how it initially seems. I wish we got more from the Kenpachis
Hmm I remembered there was a Google doc fan translation out there when the novel first came out, hell there was even one in Spanish that I read, the book is kind of weird all we know of the seventh is what tomo said on this video his bankai was forbidden to be used by the Central 46, we however get to see his shikai in the Hisagi novel when the antagonist Tokinada Tsunayashiro uses his family's Zanpakuto ability which allows the user to mimick the shikai of any Zanpakuto he has seen, the 7th kenpachi shikai summons a bunch of gray/green monsters with giant maws that multiple when you cut one in half, now the 8th kenpachi is a secondary antagonist of the novel he wants to lobotomies all souls in existence so there's no more conflict in the world, he plans to fuse himself with reality or some like that because that's his Zanpakuto ability to fuse with things, he can also become intangible, Zaraki beats him and he goes back to muken voluntarily, that's all I remember from the books lol
Well, you asked for this. There are only two Kenpachi: the first (Yachiru) and the last (Zaraki). The other nine are just place-holders. Yachiru Unohana was an absolute monster. Her reiatsau was such that no one she had ever met could even cut her. In my head-canon, Yamamoto knew this because she came to him when she was still a girl, seeking training. He refused to train her because she was a girl. So she put the first scar on his forehead with a boken before she fled his dojo. As she grew to adulthood she began seeking out every sword-master she encountered to learn their style before killing them with her overwhelming strength. She killed them all, and any acolyte who stood between her and their master, until she encountered Ōetsu Nimaiya, the sword-master who invented Ausachi. He offered her one of his magic blades if she bested him in single combat and thus was the only sword-master since Yamamoto to survive an encounter with Yachiru Unohana. Thus she gained Minazuki, and learned kidou. But what makes her such a monster is the way she used it. She was not afraid of being wounded, for her massive reiatsu protected her. She used her healing power on her opponents. She challenged every sword-master in the rukon, bringing them to the brink of death and then healing them, until she had learned every secret of their fighting style, until she knew everything there was to know, and from this knowledge formed the deadliest sword style in all Soul Society, which she called "The Art of Killing." Even as Yachiru Unohana slaughtered the last of the Rukon Sword-masters, Genraiusi Yamamoto began assembling his Gotei 13 to oppose Juha Bach and the Quincy. To prevent her from slaughtering his Captains, and being forced into a fight that neither of them would win, Yamamoto "bought" Yachiru's power with a title invented by Ichibe: "Kenpachi" - which essentially meant "invincible." It was enough acknowledgement for Yachiru Unohana to become one of Yamamoto's Captains of the Gotei 13. After the First Quincy War (1,000 years ago) Kenpachi Unohana took Squad 11 deep into the rukon in search of a worthy opponent. Since no man had ever been strong enough to harm her it was a complete surprise when a mere boy drove his ruined sword completely through her body. She had never felt such excitement before. And she had never experienced fear of death. But to her everlasting shame, he saw her fear, and spared her life, giving her a moment top heal herself, before resuming the fight, while withholding his strength. It was only after striking him down that she realized that he had allowed her to win to keep her alive because she had revealed her weakness to him. She announced to her Squad that this boy deserved the title of "Kenpachi," before she returned to the Siereitei. Soon after she faked her death in a fight with her Lieutenant (who I suspect was a Shiba, and an ancestor of Ishiin Shiba). Eventually she would re-enter the Gotei 13 as Lieutenant to Tenjiro Kirinji, of Squad 4, and would succeed him when he was promoted to Zero Division. Meanwhile, a young Kenpachi Zaraki grew up for 100 years before eventually escaping the 80th District of the North Rukon and entering the 79th District. There he slaughtered two dozen men and met a baby who didn't fear him. That was 900 years before Bleach. This means that Kenpachi Zaraki is about as old as Kouraku and Ukitake, and Yachiru Kusajishi is older than every member of the Shinigami Women's Association except Captain Unohana.
after getting the 3 Kenpatchi banner in BBS game I now understand many things about the Kenpatchi gank... and title thnx to your video thnx a lot, and I alos cant wait to see the new Anime
Awesome video man!! Hopefully Kubo will show us all the kenpachi in the Hell arc. I bet those savages must be having the time of their lives going all out in Hell.
kenpachi are insane, one was invited to the 0 division, one was banished to muken for being so op, they needed the 0 division to make him surrender, one kept the title for over 1000 years, one was able to become the strongest without even knowing his zanpakutos name
Tommo you should do a vid on the new shinji and kisuke bbs just released, would be interesting. Also, still waiting on more azashiro stuff, maybe also in bbs, i wanna see this dude in action
I’d like to think Unohana first patient was Zaraki. Since his left eye wasn’t damaged after their encounter there’s a good chance she didn’t want him anymore crippled than he’d made himself before they could meet again.
This is an Awesome Video to the Content creator I Salute you. I have So many Questions regarding this. There are only so many holders of the title that we know nothing about. Plus I want to know why Old man Yama chose to never hold the title Kenpachi or why Aizen never had it either?
I always took a different meaning from "teaching Zaraki the art of battle". I always though it meant teaching him to stop fucking around and nearly losing to people who are weaker than him. To actually approach the battlefield with proper respect, rather than treating it like a soft play area.
Aizen sealed the portals Ichigo and the others used to access Hueco Mundo coz facing off Yamamoto and the 1st Kenpachi would have been a shitty situation.
Maybe the shikai Minazuki is about a balance of organic matter which is good for healing and forming organic structures such as the manta thing. Her bankai Minazuki is about using organic matter for imbalance - essentially the potent acid it seems to be. Maybe it could spew all sorts of corrosive substances and poisons.
I really hope furring the TYBW they go through different flashbacks from the light novels, of Kenpatchis fights with the other kenpatchi, and the story’s of the ones we know, before he finally gains the full title.
So it sounds like in the past his body may have gave out she said he won so wouldn’t she be trying to reclaim the title personally but ultimately knowing she’s going to die?
I want a more detail on that light novel Kenpachi like honestly if Kubo does continue Bleach in this hell arc it be cool to see light novel stuff coming to the for ground.
I wish Kubo would give us an entire series dedicated to when Yama started everything to og killers or even a one off on more history for the other kenpachi
What was the zero squad doing before the Gotei 13 was established? Was there a zero squad prior to the Gotei 13? If not, who was guarding the soul king? Can you do a video on that please.
0 division gaurd the Soul King. Ichibe would have been doing so since the dawn of the current universe. The actual concept of 0 division as they are known now, was likely only created the same time as the Gotei 13, with Oetsu being the first one recruited for creating the Asauchi.
@@corruptangel6793 that makes sense- why wouldn’t Ichibe be considered the Kenpachi then? Wouldn’t he be considered the strongest shinigami at the time? Or did Unohana and Yamamoto not know about him?
@@CloudSephiroth he may simply not be the strongest. Everyone has a set level of spritual energy which their spirtial pressure limit is dependent on, so Ichibe would have reached his limit a long, long time ago. Whatever that limit is. Plus, Ichibe's greatest strength is nerfing others rather than defeating them with legit power like Kenpachi. So even if he could defeat Kenpachi, that wouldn't necessarily make him the strongest. Maybe Unahana didn't count him since he technically predates the Shinigami. Who knows.
Yeah, I've said the same thing. Yachiru never gave up her title or had it taken from her until her last battle with Zaraki, so technically there have only been 2 true Kenpachis.
@@larryrottenberk7771 I think she did say that. I remember her say that she was embarrassed or ashamed of herself, because she wasn't strong enough for for Zaraki, and he held himself back so much, because he was afraid that he would never find a worthy opponent again.
@@TheOneAboveACoupleOfPeople so I guess technically she gave him the title of Kenpachi as a child. Though I'd think it wasn't only Unohana who's the reason he holds back, after facing so many people weaker than him, he started holding back, then Unohana can along and was like, "oh shit, this kid is giving me an amazing fight, and I know he's holding back." But that fight caused Zaraki to keep it down at her level specifically, cause the fight she gave him being so great.
So.. by this logic then would nnoitora have become the 12th kenpachi if Zaraki never conceded to the two handed swing of his zanpakto and consequently died in hueco mundo?
The eternal argument... is Unohana more powerful than Yamamoto? I guess the Kenpachi title is something given by the head commander... apart from the head commander. Is Zaraki more powerful than Shunsui? Quite interesting.
Yamamoto has the most powerful Zanpakuto (Shikai and Bankai), I wonder if one of the scars on his head was caused by Unohana when he invited her to form the 13 squads.
What do you imagine the unknown holders of the Kenpachi title were like? Who is your favourite Kenpachi in the series? Let me know!
Retsu for subverting the title and dedicating her life to the opposite while that deadly element of hers was still there.

She said "ill make you feel the pain others have felt."
Could that potentially mean that the healing of her shikai is actually "charges" that she collected over the years to do wound transfers in her bankai?
@@ZiraneNichol101 That is a little similar to Hanataro's shikai. The meaning of Unohana's bankai is all things end. This and how it is drawn suggest something different, I think.
@@allgoesround there are zanpakuto that behaves similar in the show already. For example Senbon Sakura and Haineko.
And the guy you talk about used the absorbed wounds for a single use blast.
The idea i gave was her transferring all the wounds she absorbed with the shikai's acid. And turning it into a corrosive acid, that possibly will target anyone without prejudice.
great video explaining all of the details and history of the kenpachis i really enjoyed it
Im hyped up for the upcoming chapters of Hell Arc
Hope we get introduced more of the former Captains that now inhabit Hell, specially the former Kenpachis.
They'll be a monsters of an enemy.
So many videos in a week, loving the constant uploads!
Thaks for the videos Tommo!
hope to see you summoning again
Tommo ur so bingeable and fun to watch
Doesnt have anything to do with the vid but idc i need u to know ur amazing
This is the one I’ve been waiting for! Thanx!
You’re my favorite commentator on Bleach.
I loved the Video so much! Kenpachi is my favorite character in bleach to the point of me owning a cosplayoutfit of him and a replica of his sword
I’m from the future. And the fight was amazing.
That panel of Unohana's blank face is easily one of the most haunting in the entire manga.
This was interesting to watch and now I'Understand the story of Bleach. Its awesome to watch your videos everyweek 😀 they are informative and helpful 👍
Awesome analysis my guy!!!
The man known as Zaraki finally got his own name after killing the person dearest to him.
He is the one true KENPACHI.
I liked the vid! I only wish you had talked more about the Bankai from the novels.
So since Unohana was the first kenpachi and wasn't killed till the tybw, then technically all kenpachi between unohana and zaraki are not kenpachi in full sense of the name, cause only when she dies does she say now you're a kenpachi.
Great video!
I wish they would’ve explained it like this in the anime, I was so confused
I think we need a Kenpachi arc
These color panels are beautiful!
I'd pay good money for Tite Kubo to make a Bleach prequel about the OG Gotei 13. It's forming and it's early days.
She challenged every sword-master in the rukon, bringing them to the brink of death and then healing them, until she had learned every secret of their fighting style, until she knew everything there was to know, and from this knowledge formed the deadliest sword style in all Soul Society, which she called "The Art of Killing."
Even as Yachiru Unohana slaughtered the last of the Rukon Sword-masters, Genraiusi Yamamoto began assembling his Gotei 13 to oppose Juha Bach and the Quincy.
Azashiro is cool as hell
after getting the 3 Kenpatchi banner in BBS game
I now understand many things about the Kenpatchi gank... and title thnx to your video
thnx a lot, and I alos cant wait to see the new Anime
I didn’t know Kenpachi was a Saiyan 😮😂
So that makes Zaraki around shinsui’s age if you think about it. I mean the Shinsui was a kid when the 1,000 year blood war just ended… Around 7.
You know this video is gonna get VIEWS 🔥
You're the real MVP💯💯💯
Azashiro is the coolest imo.
Awesome video man!! Hopefully Kubo will show us all the kenpachi in the Hell arc. I bet those savages must be having the time of their lives going all out in Hell.
Good luck taking the Kenpachi title from Zaraki after learning his bankai.😂
kenpachi are insane, one was invited to the 0 division, one was banished to muken for being so op, they needed the 0 division to make him surrender, one kept the title for over 1000 years, one was able to become the strongest without even knowing his zanpakutos name
Come on everybody, let's get MrTommo2304 to 100k Subs before the end of 2021.
Thanks a lot man
one of the most interesting bleach lore for sure
Tommo you should do a vid on the new shinji and kisuke bbs just released, would be interesting.
Also, still waiting on more azashiro stuff, maybe also in bbs, i wanna see this dude in action
What is bbs?
@@SpicyRess808 bleach brave souls, he's covered characters like ukitake's "beyond bankai" version not too long ago. He also plays the game
@@Verystoic okok! I forgot about that mobile game!
Now I understand your comment 😅
I’d like to think Unohana first patient was Zaraki. Since his left eye wasn’t damaged after their encounter there’s a good chance she didn’t want him anymore crippled than he’d made himself before they could meet again.
Why did that look like ganju-sama😂😂😂 1:15
I remember when I first started seeing bleach, there was always something eerie and off about Unohana. She just seemed sketchy. Years later, we knew.
Can you make a video explaining the world of Bleach, Soul Society, world of living, hueco mundo and the soul king and how it all came to be?
This is an Awesome Video to the Content creator I Salute you. I have So many Questions regarding this. There are only so many holders of the title that we know nothing about. Plus I want to know why Old man Yama chose to never hold the title Kenpachi or why Aizen never had it either?
My favorite part about him is the fact is he is probably one of Satori Gojo's main inspirations
I like to think that the true Kenpachi is the friends we make along the way.
I always took a different meaning from "teaching Zaraki the art of battle". I always though it meant teaching him to stop fucking around and nearly losing to people who are weaker than him. To actually approach the battlefield with proper respect, rather than treating it like a soft play area.
Aizen sealed the portals Ichigo and the others used to access Hueco Mundo coz facing off Yamamoto and the 1st Kenpachi would have been a shitty situation.
in the soul society arc, every shinigami was kinda afraid of messing with squad 4 nearby Unohana, it was so cool reading again knowing why
9th kenpachi was the 8th kenpachi's LT
Maybe the shikai Minazuki is about a balance of organic matter which is good for healing and forming organic structures such as the manta thing. Her bankai Minazuki is about using organic matter for imbalance - essentially the potent acid it seems to be. Maybe it could spew all sorts of corrosive substances and poisons.
Unohona vs Yamamoto would be a great video topic
I also so hope that the hell arc shows us the rest of the Kenpachi and some previous Captains.
12:00 This contradicts Ichinose's story about the captain of squad 11.
It's odd to me, that captain Yamato wasn't the first Kenpachi, as he was called the strongest shinagami to ever live.
Idk they say alot .... Ol man Yama said he was the most powerful for the last 1000 years
Can we get a Tosen review? Or review of his bankai? I think he’s the only captain you haven’t done a video on lol
It's SUCH a shame Unohana had to die... She might back a comeback during the hell arc but her new design was so slick too...
I am satisfied with this video
What would satisfy you?
@@megalictis9002 consistency and reason
Who knows.
Technically, Zaraki is the 2nd Kenpachi, Since Unohana didn't get killed by the other 2nd Kenpachi.
Yeah, I've said the same thing. Yachiru never gave up her title or had it taken from her until her last battle with Zaraki, so technically there have only been 2 true Kenpachis.
@@TheOneAboveACoupleOfPeople also, doesn't she straight up say that Zaraki was worthy of the title when he's still a kid
Azashiro in End of Year Brave Souls? Let's hope!
Do you think unohana met the other kenpachis and was like "you're not strong enough"
So.. by this logic then would nnoitora have become the 12th kenpachi if Zaraki never conceded to the two handed swing of his zanpakto and consequently died in hueco mundo?
The eternal argument... is Unohana more powerful than Yamamoto? I guess the Kenpachi title is something given by the head commander... apart from the head commander. Is Zaraki more powerful than Shunsui? Quite interesting.
Yamamoto has the most powerful Zanpakuto (Shikai and Bankai), I wonder if one of the scars on his head was caused by Unohana when he invited her to form the 13 squads.
