Peter found comedy and acting on his path in life, and it's probably very fortunate that he did. Talented comedians like him, who are also troubled or have mania or some other mental problem(s) might have ended up in a mental home instead of a movie studio or working on a comedy radio series. Jonathan Winters is probably another person in this situation, and maybe also Robin Williams. There is so much going on in the brain, and so many personalities in there, that theater or film or TV becomes a good venue with which to channel all that stuff. Just a theory. The Inspector Clouseau movies with Sellers (the ones filmed with him when he was alive) are gems, like the Pink Panther itself. They are delicious examples of a fine blend of slapstick and costumes and word play and parody. A joy to watch, over and over again. Thanks for this video.
One thing I love about Clouseau was that he was aware of his own incompetence and luck, making many of the situations that he got into all the more hilarious given how in a lot of them there was always a split second of 'OH SH-!' before the situation would go back and smack him in the face. One of my favorite moments isn't with this doesn't even involve him at the scene of a crime but him talking to Dreyfus at the mental ward. Through it all, Dreyfus is clearly just on the edges to of strangling him and you can see it Clouseaus' face even though Dreyfus is lying that he's happy and everything is okay. Clouseau just stands in awe, looking like scared out of his life and ready to just gun it out of there...and then the arrow comes in hits Dreyfus in the forehead with Clouseau looking like he knows shit just dropped. THEN HE RUNS. In a way he was and was not stupid. His arrogance, ego, and want to always be right always blew up in his face but he had enough sense in his head to KNOW he fucked up but would circle back around to arrogance in order to not let anyone else know he fucked up. XD
I like your comments and opinions. I couldn't agree more. Although I'm not sure if Clouseau really did know that he was lucky or how lucky he was because Imo, he strolled from one place to another while planning his next move to protect or capture the diamond. While his mishaps came naturally to him, I think he thought that he was a great and one of the best detectives around, lol. Maybe he was too confident in himself. Lol. He certainly knew how to get himself untangled from his so- called accidents. His disguises were hysterical. Those movies are still hilarious. Lmao. . 😅😅. Have a great weekend. Be safe and well.
Finally, Peter Seller was perfect in the part, Steve Marin (who I like very much) as good a comedian as he is, couldn’t replace Petter Sellers. Only Sellers could ever play Inspector Clouseau!
As a kid from the 60's I loved pink panther, not just the movies, Saturday mornings with PP were funny. Thank you for the laughs. My favorites were when he pretended to be a dentist and the laughing gas and melting nose makeup.
Sad fact: Rene Gościnny [yes, the one of Asterix fame] did in fact sue the producers of "The Pink Panther". The story goes Gościnny, who became a film prodcuer at the time was developing a detective comedy movie of his own and sent a script to Peter Seller ofering him a role. He got zero respons and year later "Pink Panther strikes agian" came out and as Gościnny clamed it was heavely plagriarise from his script. Gościnny filed a lawsuit however he sadly died of heart attack. The trail was droped however years later Gościnny's brother said years later that their family came to agrement with Pink Panther people.
Really enjoyed this video. I grew up on these movies and the Clouseau cartoons. No one, absolutely no one should play Clouseau (in live action form anyway) except for Sellers. I did find the first film a bit dull as a child. Sure, Clouseau was funny but with the focus being on Sir Charles, Clouseau was just a side character in that one. The later 70s films start off very funny, but I do feel they can go a bit over the top at certain points, particularly with Strikes Again My favourite PP film, like most folks, is 'A Shot in the Dark'. I love the character of Hercule, ( I somehow, find it funnier when Dreyfus is a commissioner rather than just a Chief Inspector) and I find the whole movie hilarious, start to end. It's well written and directed. It's a cinematic masterpiece, and the cast were perfect. The movie, 'The Life and Death of Peter Sellers' had obvious factual elements, but I hear a lot of people who knew Sellers, found the film was full of exaggerated BS, just like The Curse of Steptoe. People also believe Sellers may have had bipolar, explaining his sudden changes in personality
A great retrospective on the iconic character. Makes me want to rewatch the films (well, the entries featuring Sellers at least) again as I haven't seen most of them in years. Wonder why they didn't go with casting Atkinson in the end for "Son of"? He was more well known by then.
Graham Stack was an excellent actor and I especially enjoyed him in Blake Edwards’ films. He was particularly good when he played the French waiter to Julie Andrews and Robert Preston in Victor/Victoria…..”Cockroach“! He had the shortest but funniest lines in the movie. 14:46
@@massimocappuccini7644 I guess that would be A Shot in the Dark, from 1964. Though it includes Inspector Clouseau with some of his later mannerisms, and several of the characters associated with him in later movies, the one thing it doesn't seem to include is: a Pink Panther.
Peter Sellars was a comedy genius, the likes of which will probably never be seen again. When I try to explain to people what made him such a unique talent, I often refer to the scene where he plays a Swedish sailor, complete with an inflatable parrot on his shoulder. Think of it, he's an English actor, playing a character with a French accent and in that scene he has to portray a person with a French accent, imitating a Scandinavian accent! How do you even begin to figure out how to do that?? And yet he does it flawlessly. Also, he could easily do the over the top scenes but it was his ingenious subtlety that often funniest. Using the late Chris Farley as an example, although he was very talented, he was not a master of the subtle humor that Sellars was so good at. And as far as I'm concerned, the only Pink Panther films that matter are the ones with Sellars. The most recent reboot was just awful and frankly I'm surprised that Martin was stupid enough to go down that road at all. One last thought, the famous tooth pulling scene is in my opinion the funniest couple of minutes in any movie that I've ever seen in my life.
I think whst makes clouseau work is that Peter sellars understood underneath the clownish exterior was a man who wanted justice to be done no matter the cost to himself or others
I heard Blake Edwards also wanted John Ritter to play the lead in Curse of the Pink Panther. Coincidentally John Ritter died at the same age as Peter Sellers, 54. John Ritter also died at the same age as the actor Paul Ritter who coincidentally had the same surname.
Blake Edwards began his directing career with the most stylish, elegant, smart comedies, and slowly devolved into a complete hack. What he did to that film series is just so horrible.
Strikes Again should have included the Pink Panther diamond as a necessary component in the Operation Looking glass laser. It should also have been the last film they ever did.
When I was a kid, I watched the movie thinking that the Pink Panther (animal) would appear, but in the end I was laughing a lot. Did you watched the Pink Panther cartoon?
Andre Maranne retired in late 1980's and declined to come out of retirement to play Franscois in Son Of The Pink Panther so they got Dermot Crowley instead
Julian Orchard was forced to tell Clouseau not to say the word crazy even though it's a perfectly fine word to say and there's nothing wrong with saying it; so bad script writers!
Roberto Benyeeney is how you would pronounce it correctly. But I'm sure you have a very good reason to pronounce it the way you did. Although I don't know the reason. And I'm sure you have been told before. Even in these very comments under this video. I knew it!
I am sorry to say this, but I had to stop halfway because the narration was driving me nuts. It is the vocal equivalent of non-joined up writing, sounding like he is speaking to a room full of three year old children or 99 year old geriatrics. There are just too many amateur narrators on RUclips.
As a young teen my friends and i would walk 2 miles to see his movies along with Monty python, Mel Brooks movies. Great times

I’m looking forward to this new film with Eddie Murphy to see what it’s like

Peter Sellers.
"He's my favorite French actor!"
-A movie patron in England, interviewed while waiting in line to see _A Shot in the Dark_
RIP Peter Sellers. You were a legend. Never will "That felt good" fail to make me laugh.

Peter Sellers AKA Inspector Clouseau the man was a true genius.
Inspector Clauose and Peter sellers are inseparable, they are like made for each other

Best Movie Main Character ever! And I love the Pink Panther franchise series.
So, what about people who associate the name "Pink Panther" with a diamond with a flaw that seems to depict a panther?
Uno sparo n'el buio (1962)😂

Remember watching these movie’s growing up With Peter Sellers. I really enjoyed all of them. I still recall the nudist camp.

The beer fest and the hitman foul ups a laugh every time
he was acting like a great physical comedian...genius
I find your Pink Panther videos better than Hats Off Entertainment
He is still the best. Unsurpassed.
Ele era o máximo!!! Praticamente o humor dele era o melhor de sua época!!!!! Grandioso Peter!!!!!❤
no one can replace "Peter Sellers"
Rowan Atkinson is known in America today for playing Zazu in The Lion King which is a Disney movie filmed in the U.S
What were they thinking when they thought they could replace Peter Sellers?
$$$ £££ €€€ what else lol. didn't work did it.
It seems like there's more deleted scenes from The Pink Panther Strikes Again that aren't shown in Trail Of The Pink Panther
I've been watching this channel since 2017

Joanna Lumley went from Marie Jouvet in Trail Of The Pink Panther to Countess Chandra in Curse Of The Pink Panther
"Foolhardy" is the word you're looking for around 3:06
TRES Cool/Peter Sellers!
I’m glad Ted Wass and Roberto Benigni ended up in those Pink Panther movies I think they would’ve been worse with those other actors
Peter Sellers Pink Panther series was the best!
Can't believe Rowan Atkinson got passed up twice to play the next Clouseau, that seems like a cosmic level error
What did critics and audiences think of Bobby McFerrin at the beginning of Son Of The Pink Panther?
Good memories !!

How did I miss this?!?
The question is…. Will we ever get a comparison of book to tv series of the demon headmaster…?
Sellers was funny as a goon, and that is where it ended.
I still laugh at the moat scene.
The epitomy of a modern day politician.
