This presentation was a ton of fun and I'm super happy with how it turned out! A huge thank you to Full Indie for having me and a huge thank you to you for watching! If you have any questions about the presentation or if you would just like an animal fact I am happy to do an impromptu QnA part 2 here:
Hey Talia, Big fan! I was wondering if you had any advice on how to use steam reviews for evil or otherwise nefarious purposes. Also if you had any facts on avian creatures, I'd love to hear them! All the best, Ali
@@estakinatorthe most evil thing you could do is put negative reviews on small and or recently released games without giving them a chance. Early reviews are a tone setter for future reviews so if the tone is evil early, there is a good chance it will stay evil. My fun fact about Avians is that if you look in the ear of most species of owl you can see the back of their eyeball. It’s gross but cool.
@@TaliabobMair Wow! That is cool and gross! and thanks for the tip on small games, I'll be sure to target games of devs who have wronged me in a past life. Appreciate the answer! Lots of love, Ali
Nice video, for the most part. But I do have some things to say. Look, I get that we should treat indie games fairly and understand they are mostly developed by very small teams (sometimes just one person) and that they can be both beginners or experienced developers. I get that. But this shouldn't be an excuse for not accepting some constructive criticism. Of course, not all negative reviews will have something useful, so I would say the most useful negative reviews are from people who: - Clearly understand the purpose of your game and it's mechanics. - Talks respectfully (this is the bare minimum, but many people don't do that, unfortunately). I say this because I was really disappointed when you put a valuable review as a simple "armchair game designer". They didn't say they hated the game, they just said they wouldn't recommend it to other people bc of some issues. It could very well be that they liked the most part of the game. What's the matter with pointing out aspects that could be improved? Unless it's a "make an entirely different game" type of review, these reviews can be quite helpful. It's actually the best type of negative review, because they can have some interesting ideas. I see games as art, and the developers as artists. When a dev makes a game, they have something in mind for it. So they should always keep listening to their players and filter what ideas will be useful for what they have in mind. For example, if you're developing a tactical shooter (a subgenre of shooters characterized for slower-paced gameplay and high degree of realism in armed combat), you won't take notes from a guy that basically wants your game to be another Splinter Cell or some other stealth game. You're gonna take notes from people who have played tactical shooters and clearly understand what should be done to provide a great experience for the players. Have a good day. You're a nice person.
This was a really good presentation, genuinely a delight to watch/listen to! Honestly, I think maybe Steam should add something that’s more like… a notice board or something, where people can basically leave sticky notes about their thoughts and opinions about the game, but it doesn’t carry the same weight as an actual review. That way, the controller breakers can leave their little “OMG this game SUCKS because this level is so hard and I had a rough day and now I’m Big Mad about it” note and it won’t affect the actual reviews.

This was very well done Talia
I also love disco elysium and think everyone should play it the way I did. All in one day, at the edge of exhausted delirium.
Exquisite presentation, I’d say that most artists and creators online and otherwise could benefit from analyzing negative feedback like this 🧠❗️
I love this, loved it way more than heatstroke but I know it was made to make me hate myself. So good, thank you Talia!
she’s so cool and pretty
i can't wait to sit and watch this through
goddamn, talia is insanely funny
Knowledge for my potential game dev career?! Perhaps!!!
What a beautiful person they are ❤
This really is the epic presentation
Damn shes kinda cute tho...
I was not expecting Disco Elysium
