That is belt material. Engine shredded the belt and sucked it in thru front crank seal. Oil filter housing leak can cause this and age

I'm wondering how is that possible. Engine is closed system, tight seals everywhere. Beld is very stiff material and its a lot of rubber. Where the hell is the entrance point ? I can not imagine it right now.

The drive belt broke, wound around the crankshaft and got into the engine crankcase. A friend of mine had a similar situation on the same engine. I’ve even seen a special plate that some people put behind the damper to prevent the belt from getting into the engine.

Oil filter housing was leaking heavily. Dripped on the drive belt and made it slip off and get sucked into the engine. Very common when OFHG leak is not dealt with

The "rubber" debris you found inside the engine is a shredded serpentine belt, that's been sucked in through the front main seal of the engine. If it snaps or slides off the rollers, there is no space for it to escape so the engine sucks it in through the front main seal....Same happens on the N52 engine if it snaps.

oh no, the engine is known for eating the front belt. It can be because of: 1) bad motor mounts
    2) oil cooler gaskets went bad and starts to leak on the belt
    3) front crank seal starts to leak on the belt

I've heard of this happening on some Bimmers. I believe the drive belt broke and wrapped around the crankshaft pulley and was ingested into the engine over time. The repair shop likely didn't clean it enough or check when they replaced the belt. EDIT: You mentioned it in the end of the video anyway 😆

I'm sure someone has already told you this. But that long stringy stuff you found in the crank shaft is a Serpentine Belt that came off due to all the oil leaking out from the front oil Filter housing gasket onto the Serpentine belt and then it slips onto the crank shaft and the crank shaft eats it!! No joke this is a common problem for those that don't watch their leaks and especially the filter housing gaskets! Then some people even will ignore that that has happened and put another serpentine belt on the car and drive it until it gets destroyed from oil starvation due to all the oil passages being clogged up with belt. It's nuts but it's true.

First thing to check is the engine . That's the starting point before doing anything else.
My friend imported an 335i e93 from usa (never import a car from usa . NEVER)
did all the bodywork then he find out that the engine is bad. I mean very bad.
Again never ever (if you live in europe)
Import that kind of car frim usa because kids there doesn't know what maintenance is.

  • @unmountablebootvolume

My guess what happened would be: Filter gasket failed, spiolled oil on the belt, belt snapped, got eaten by the engine, belt pieces plugged up the oil pickup, owner replaced the belt, it started knocking, guy knew the engine was done and drove it like a mad man, tearing off the oxygen sensor wires, then the engine blew completely, it got parked, and the fire happened.

Such good content! Although I really hate that you got scammed like that. Not gonna lie, if it was bought through insurance I'd have reported the seller for fraud. Or if you have a written sales document from the seller you could consider legal action. The seller for sure knew that engine was bad.
