Time of Your Life is a VideoSong, a new medium with 2 rules:
1. What you see is what you hear (no lip-syncing for instruments or voice).
2. If you hear it, at some point you see it (no hidden sounds).
Time of Your Life, by Jack Conte
Lyrics:
Still searching,
still guessing,
still lurching,
but are you having the time of your life?
Still waiting,
still pacing,
still playing,
but are you having the time of your life?
Help me!
I don't know what to be anymore!
Still checking,
still chasing,
still dressing,
but are you having the time of your life?
Same faces,
same stories,
same places.
Help me!
I am salt in the sea.
Still searching,
still guessing,
still lurching,
but are you having the time of your life?
Are you having the time of your life? Видеоклипы
Here I'am some 7 years later and still digging and loving VS4. There is nothing not to like on this album. I'm listening to this obviously from 2018 where i'm listening to Scary Pockets another great Conte endevour. Pomplamoose also killing it. Jack Conte the gift that keeps on giving.
Timothy Anderson hiii
I love how you make 5/8 sound so smooth and also the acoustic bass guitar
The time you spend in post-production and editing must be tremendous and we all appreciate your hard work!!!!!!!!
@YellowSpeckeldToad - hey thanks! i was particularly proud of this tone. It's a Nelson Coquette guitar through two overdrives (the EHX Tube Zipper and the custom Bruiser made by Charles DeArmon) with the memory man delay afterwards. The delay time is set very short, probably like 50 -100, and the feedback is cranked so it rings for a long time after the initial pluck, making it feel like a tinny verb or something. then i turn down the bass on my amp which is a fender twin from the early 70s
Of all the excellent songs on the album I keep coming back to this one for some reason. So great.
I notice a lot of odd time signatures in his songs. On Planets is in 15/8, Gulf and This Disaster have some 7/4 or 7/8, there's this one with 5/4 in it, I Know ends up at 10/4, then there's Like A Match, which I can't even figure out.
I think it's really cool, because I've always loved odd time signatures, especially lately, and I think they're very underutilized.
I also didn't miss the polyrythym in Here with the snare cross stick :D
I will never get tired of this song. Just bought the entire album. Thanks so much!
This is TRULY AWESOME! I've listened to it like 5 times and I still have to tear myself away from it! Just . . . AWESOME!!!
The amount of happiness that ensued after watching this video is indescribable.
It's pretty amazing how much more seeing the VideoSong made me like this song.
I've been listening to this album since the day it came out, Can't wait for the "Long Long Time Ago" vid to be posted, or for the book to come in the mail.
Peace!
Uh, wow. Awesome musicality,... Vocals, instruments, arranging, mixing... I mean, wow. Words fail. You're exceptionally talented, dude.
WOW WOW! the Bass is panned LEFT!!! I haven't ever even considered panning the bass. It's always just right up the middle. But it works! My mind has been expanded.
How did I miss this song? I thought I "bought everything" :)
-You Rock Jack..!
@JamesTheodoreAustin Definitely 5/4. I think the "time of your life" section is a measure of 3/4, a measure of 5/4, then a measure of 4/4, then back to form. The 2x 3/4 + 3x 2/4 that was suggested counts the same, but "time of your" is one musical thought. Probably grouped as 5/4. Semantics, I know.
With business concluded, Jack Conte is easily one of the most imaginative composers/performers I've ever had the good fortune of seeing/hearing. Thank you RUclips, and a huge thank you to Jack.
Time for a revival of this song,
I love the piano melody for this song the most, the chorus just drives this into the stratosphere. Love the video work for this.
I friggin love this song. Such a brilliant melody in the chorus. This whole album is AMAZING! A must have.
Starting my day off fantastically. : D KEEP MAKING AMAZING MUSIC!
I recently bought all of your songs. All of them. At once. You're my absolute inspiration.

Dear Jack.
This is honestly my favorite, most favorite song on the album. Most favorite ever.
I am having the time of my life.
You're amazing.
This is my heart's song right now.
Brilliant... Especially the 'metal face' whilst playing an acoustic bass!
I seriously dig everything you do..

So glad to see you posting again! Going to buy the album now!

This song has a really nice bass lick, and adding the high harmony at :25 sounds really cool.
You are the best, man! When I think you're a genious and totally incredible and I've heard everything you could make, you come with something even more amazing! It's been a long time that I don't buy any cd, but I'm gonna buy all your stuff! The discs, the book, the orchestration, everything! Congratulations, for real!
FANTASTIC!
Your music is genuinely amazing and unique Jack. I'm not just listening to this out of procrastination either.
Jack at 1:13: "AWWWW YEAHHH"
I'm so happy I found this! It's so awesome!
The more I hear this song the better it gets.
I relate to this so much in this time of my life. Thank you for letting me know what is important. I only have one life...though in zelda I have four :3
anyone who hasn't already, BUY THE ALBUM!!! it's AMAZING!
Great mix and song, I love how you found a perfect spot on the right for the bass in the mix. Very cool!
@usernameisnameless Jack's explanation from Gulf:
"By the way, the bullet time effect is achieved by filming and recording the guitar track 8 times in an arc, then switching between the angles at about 2-3 frames per second. All of the layers are still in the audio mix, so it still follows all the VideoSong rules."
Cool, huh?
Lovely sounds
@usernameisnameless
"The bullet time effect is achieved by filming and recording the guitar track 8 times in an arc, then switching between the angles at about 2-3 frames per second. All of the layers are still in the audio mix, so it still follows" He writes is in the description of Gulf, i think :)
love this
Hey Jack greetings from Italy! Your new songs are awesome!
This is my favorite song of yours SO FAR!! : )
awesome video editing skills, great creativity, mind blowing composing , soulful playing. you're really getting up there in the "genius" category, Jack.
I love the ending bit with the reverb. I wish you had kept it for the album.
Amazing!
@usernameisnameless I think it's this: he records multiple takes of himself singing and the video gets sliced into very short fragments that he flips through. So you have recording A, B and C of the same musical part. Then the video shows 10 frames of recording A, 10 frames of B, 10 frames C, 10 frames A, etc. Sometimes the camera is in a fixed place so it is just him that moves quickly, sometimes the position of the camera is slightly altered to make the entire room seem to move around rapidly.
weird. and not exactly the stuff i'd choose if i had 5 songs to take to a desert island. but god damn i love what you're doing -- going out and making unique, clever stuff -- and more importantly, stuff that feels like it's YOURS, even when it's super different to the last thing you've done. i dig you, jack. keep taking risks and making cool stuff.
yeeeeeeeeeaaaaahhhhh!
the album is top notch, man. really well done!
LOVE this wow
awesome I love all of jack/pomplamoose music.
Jack's music is so damn good.

Ive liked seeing your guitar gear progress through your vids. Love this one, its been a sweet change from the Pamplamousse stuff
this deserves so many more views!
Jack, Love the Tambourine rhythm on this one! Bought the album after I saw the first video, its killer!
Dude this is dope. Jack you are awesome man. Scary pockets brought me here.
YEEEESSSS NEW VIDEO!!
Awesome, as usual !
This was my jam in middle school.
Great video jack!
Hell yeah.
buying this album was one of the best investments i've ever made
Bought the album a couple weeks ago. I love it!! :D
Love the new album. go get it if you havn't yet!
This song reminds me of "Take Five" by Brubeck. SWEET!!!
Awesome ending!
@kadeczka
Idk what metrum is, but time signature is basically which note values get a beat and how many of them. Like 4/4 means that there are 4 quarter notes in one measure, 7/8 means that there are 7 eight notes in one measure.
Sweet lovin your sound jack.
This song is my favourite on the album. It really feels like Stevie Wonder meets alternative rock. I love listening to it when I need to be inspired.
The piano riff reminds of Brad Mehldau , it's great!!!
wonderful as always Jack :]
Beautiful voice
the bass line is joyous :')
Woot! Okoboji! I go there every summer!
it is nice to see how you have improved your skills on the drums :)
Just found this man now. His music is an amazing blend of Elliot Smith, Radiohead and Incubus. So good.
Cant wait for Sinking Feeling!!
After listening to this song numerous times, I can say that I can definitely relate to the meaning of this song. Hell I'm at that point in my life as well where I'm trying to figure out what I want to be. I'm sure being a musician is no easy road, but I would like to think that it has its rewards. :)
Excellent! Conte meets Brubeck.
You are the man...
Really, I admire you so much I can't tell...
I am learning to play the electric guitar, and got myself a crappy pedal for it, with just a few effects... and I get totally lost everytime I try to program something! You got a great sound on that guitar, it reminds me of some of the beatles songs (latest years).
Congratulations!
His musical skills are not bad, but his editing skill is over 9000
genius!!!!
It's awesome everytime! :)
@usernameisnameless - Yeah, dude, for sure: everyone commenting below is exactly right - it's a way to make "doubled vocals" visually interesting. I'm alternating between separate takes at three frames per second (8 takes in this case cuz it was three part harmony with the top voice quadrupled and the middle and bottom voices doubled). I'll make a video for it - a behind the scenes ish kinda thing - and I'll post it on my second channel, jackconteextras.
great trippy music! this guy s a genius! greetings from manila sir
