A truly beautiful piece. While I very much enjoyed your "heavier" material, these new, more textured and subtly layered recordings display your increasing mastery of your personal recording methods. It is one thing to hear great sounds inside of your own head; it is quite another to be able to bring them out and give them life, for others to hear and enjoy. This composition is so unique in its nature. Orchestral elements and a 6 part harmony neatly strewn together among sharps, flats, augmented and diminished chords. Bravo.

@treinspore You asked what is happening between 1:17 - 1:21 (theoretically, in brief).
He's using inner vocals in a sort of counterpoint to hang on a dissonant chord before resolving the chord at the start of the next musical phrase. It stands out, grabs your ears, and yells, "PAY ATTENTION TO ME" without annoying you. Brilliant.
Of course, he doesn't stop there. He then soars into a high note that blows my mind.
Ever composed a piece for orchestra? I bet it would sound amazing! :)
The choices of notes for melody and harmony at around 1:19 are truly inspired. Choices like that distinguish you from other songwriters. I enjoyed this very much.
Underrated??? He's a freakin' success story giving hope to tens of thousands of us dorks in our basement studios.

@andrewsmithify - no worries, homie. i'm missing that stuff, too. The year that I recorded VS4 was a really tough year for me personally, and i ended up writing a really quiet record - i don't regret it at all. But since it came out, I've been missing my grungier, harder side. I've gotten into to a lot of intense music recently, and it's starting to influence my next round of compositions - so my guess is my next batch of songs will sound way heavier and grungier than VS4

Underrated means not getting as much recognition as he deserves. Jack Conte is very underrated- as a talented and masterful musician, he should be getting millions of views, not thousands. He is still in the obscure, but I kinda like that. It means that he is a treasure few know about.
