All the more powerful because the line ("You can count on me") is left unspoken.

Yes. Lonergan is a gifted storyteller and excellent writer. Everything I’ve seen of his is uniquely beautiful and poignant.

This was a really good film. The ending was perfect and kinda bittersweet. The siblings realize they are different from each other and go back to their lifestyles they were living but have no bad blood with each other. Laura Linney and Mark Ruffalo's performances were amazing and I'm surprised they didn't receive an Oscar for their acting.

This is my favourite of out Laura Linney's three oscar nominated performances.. hell, this maybe my favourite performance of hers period. Giving the oscar to Julia Roberts for Erin Brockovich is just baffling in retrospect.

I hadn't seen this since it came out. I just watched it this morning. Coincidentally, my sister moved away two weeks ago, leaving my niece and nephew behind with their father. Watching this scene now, I can't stop crying.

I love this movie. I remember when it came out I saw it in the theater and thought - this is fantastic!
Where are all the movie patrons?
There were 4 people in the theater. It was a 20 hanky movie.
Then the Academy Award nominations and all the accolades came.
Great picture all the way around.

Both Mark and Laura are terrific in the scene but Laura makes me feel every pain I have felt for my dear friend who is struggling with drug addiction for too many years now!

Yes. It brings back memories of my much-loved brother leaving home at 16 over drug abuse. Didn't see him again for three years, then again for 12 years. Now, many years later, I may be losing him forever. The ending with "Pilgrim" by Steve Earle and the Del McCoury band is special! Similar country and architecture to where we lived as well (VT). A special movie for me *sniff*

It's an original composition by Lesley Barber, "Terry's Theme." Beautiful. www.lesleybarber.com/you-can-count-on-me/

He's not going to keep in touch regularly and he'll have more stupid troubles at least occasionally, that thought I had when I saw it made the ending even better, and sweeteer.

At that time with the proper makeup Ruffalo could play a decent Freddie Mercury

This is English. There were some negative comments in the recent posts. You suck. Mark Ruffalo was great in "You Can Count on Me." He was also good at sticking up for my American Indian people. Put up your Confederate Flag and get a life.
