It’s so comical that Melvin can dish as many insults as he wants, but when he delivers a compliment, it drains all of his energy 😂🤚
To be fair that wasn't even the worst insult he gave, in fact, what he said was a compliment by his standards.
It was an insult, but not nearly as crazy as the other ones he delivered earlier especially the ones directed at Simon
This film is a masterpiece on so many levels. One of the gems is seeing Nicholson's character struggle with expressing his positive feelings (insults and complaints come much more easily). I know many men with similar dispositions and I've never seen it done so tenderly as it is in this movie.
Profoundly unrealistic.
He has no empathy. Thats why he doesnt even realize when he is being a jerk. Uses money to buy this girl's favors. The guy is a narcissist. Hes not even trying to be "better". He just wants this girl and thinks if he acts more like her, he will get her.
Helen Hunt is so beautifully expressive.

I love this movie these kinda romantic comedies especially from the 90s they give you those nice old vibes nostalgic feel so beautiful
Yup pre internet, pre everyone on their cell phone, pre leaving a yelp review, pre being recorded by others, pre posting on Instagram or Facebook a picture of your meal or a selfie, pre using an app to pull a menu, pre using a GPS to find the quickest way there, just living being yourself and being happy. A most wonderful time that anyone under thirty never experienced or doesn't relate except when maybe they were in kindergarten. 😮😢😂

If Helen Hunt said "If You Ask Me I'll Say Yes" I don't think there is another man on Earth who wouldn't have asked her, and if she kissed you like that after moving one chair closer to you you would not be in touch with reality if you didn't understand the meaning of those two actions. If you don't know how to dance, put aside your anxiety and just do it. Love and romance are beautiful, don't deny yourself the act of dancing with your woman because of being self-conscious.
But if you do, they will never write a romantic comedy about you.
This is one of my favorite Helen Hunt films. Pay It Forward is another one. I just love her acting.

For me, without a doubt, one of the great achievements of cinematography. Brilliant plot, brilliant script, brilliant acting. Right up there with the Shawshank Redemption. Heaven only knows how many times I have watched this film (and the other).

You would think there was no way Melvin could mess this up when she said, 'if you ask me, I'll say yes.' Oh Mr. Udall...
That line sounded weird to me. Feels kind of inappropriate and desperate. I would reword it as, “you won’t upset me” or something like that. I also would remove the word “romantic” from the line. Feels kind of unnecessary

I have schizofrenia and when i broke up (well she broke up with me) with my first love at the age of 20 i started to go to an psychiatric and i called my ex girlfriend and told her i started to see a shrink. She dismissed as something trivial at the time i didnt realised i did it for her because i wanted to get better for her to be a better man.

This is an exam0le of a man not being comfortable with the vulnerability of emotions, or maybe intimacy. I don't know who wrote this, but they knew this kind of person.
I love her, I've always loved her and will still love her when she's 99 years old.
I couldn't stand her in Mad About You (seemed a gimmicky actress, always busy with small tasks while delivering lines), but this film changed my mind.

"You look so se..." A suit and a nice hairstyle can do wonders. Men wonder why women don't seem to want sex as much as they do. But men so seldom make the effort that when they finally show up in anything other than jeans, women become the lovers they've being wanting. Look nice, guys. It's sexy.
True. One night I had a female friend give me the up & down when I showed up at where she was cocktailing after I had bought a new pants & shirt combo and got a little extra gussied up. She nearly gasped, "Don't YOU clean up nice!" We had known each other years, but that was the only time I had gotten that kind of reaction from her.

ocd is uncurable
I had acute ocd - hospitalised with it - but with immersion therapy, cbt and the support of family and friends I now lead a normal life. Ocd thoughts only an issue if I get run down and tired but after a good sleep no problem. In short you can manage the disorder.
