I love how much he focuses on back. Julius maddox said some similar stuff and I started training back more, my bench absolutely exploded with increasing back volume
You need to see Jimmy in person to understand how big someone 5’6 is at 300lbs. You can’t even comprehend how big he is. His triceps hang probably 3” off his arm.
I remember a few years back a few USAPL guys were saying you don't need a big back or a lot of back work for the bench press "You don't bench with your back". Yet no big bencher (raw or equipped) that I've seen has ever said "my back's too big" lol. My 23 yo son's coming up on doing a 700lb single ply bench - definitely passing this on to him. The first time we tried a 705lb bench, right as he was touching, his back collapsed and dumped the weight. Definitely need a strong back for these weights.
Yeah Matt Wenning talked a bit about this when he went on Mark Bell's podcast. Apparently his bones look completely different on scans because they contain unknown minerals. I imagine this is true of most elite multi-ply equipped lifters. The shirts and suits can do some of the work for your muscles but your skeleton still has to support the full weight.
To a degree yeah you’re right but since he’s a powerlifter he’s probably not taking those sets to absolute failure. He also does bench only so I imagine he’s doing very little to no leg work, meaning that area of the body wich is one of the most taxing, isn’t taking away from his systemic recovery. So recovery wise, I can see it being plausible, especially in a CRAZY surplus like how he eats. Logistically, since he trains 6x per week all he’d have to do is like 20sets every other workout, wich if you’re hittting every angle is super easy to do. 2-3sets at each angle and plane (reverse, wide, center grip) for rows, pulldowns, high rows, low rows, etc. all would be totally doable especially split over 3 different days. I’m a bodybuilder and I find that most dudes with huge backs who have a even split where they’re hitting all body parts 1-2x per week easily will end up in the 40-50Set range for back just by happenstance of exercise selection being so vast. If you just do 2 sets for each pulldown variant, hell that’s like 6-8sets right there easy.
So true about the pain site. Just like shoulders many times it’s coming from the cervical or the biceps. Stretch those biceps-funny enough almost all my rt shoulder pain was gone after I tore the bicep tendon off the bone and I’d been dealing w it for many many yrs. lost some strength and stability in the shoulder as well but you can regain that. Now to tear the other bicep 🙏🏻😂
Does he bench raw? What’s he do without equipment for accessories and stuff. Much respect to the equipment though just curious what these guys do raw and how much carry over it has
No doubt, he's obviously strong raw but you won't find anything that could help you draw a comparison between him and the top raw benchers. He might be able to do 550 or 600 raw but he's nowhere near Julius Maddox territory.

Brother got that heartburn hiccups from the anadrol 😂 💪
The full podcast is super entertaining, interesting, and full of golden tidbits. Jimmy's GOAT'ed

What was your back routine bud

crazy how far the basics can take you
Lol 😆
This guy's bones must be made out of diamond
Bone density must be fucking ridiculous

wolffs law.
@@Digitalisx handle heavy weight often your bones have no choice to adapt ( heavy to you ) you do not want to risk injury
Great info
Can't even fathom having that much weight in my hands above me. Insane!
Any videos of him lifting without gear?
Great interview
"I was in the military" always means "Air Force" or "National Guard" haha
Marines
@@Kolbstrong I stand corrected, brother.
I don’t think people understand how fucking insane 100 sets of back per week is. Most bodybuilding and powerlifting programs don’t even break 20.
That's cap. I do about 40 and I'm no one.

did you watch the podcast? he doesn't do raw. he doesn't care for it
@@patricksomaine3700I can lift 4000lbs with a forklift. I don't care for raw 😎
There's a video of him doing 405 for 20 partial reps in a t shirt with a reverse grip, but that's it.

Probably mid 600s based on the limited raw benching/raw variation videos we have of him
To all the BS people I have never seen an equiped bencher have a weak raw bench. People crying can't bench 315
Great info
