I do want to point out for the beach spawn that if you walk around the back area a bit more, there is a spot with some alcohol, ropes, tape, energy drinks, and a can opener. I never see anyone talk about that place.
For me my favorite is the Beach Spawn. Building right off the shore next to the two tents with the machete (especially now that they added the platform blueprints) means my base basically has an impenetrable wall between it and the cannibals and mutants 😄 and most of the stuff not in the cases by the tents respawns - plus it puts you in very short range of both the rebreather cave and the camp with all the sodas.
Going off of what kIDNEYKid said, the location is really close to the beach spawn. Literally go to the MRE location that Farket pointed out and then just continue walking around the peninsula until you find this area. There's a can opener, food, drinks, booze and loads of oysters!
I want to point out as well that if you walk around the cliff on the beach where the machete spawns with the tents. Your gonna find some crafted spears with a turtle shell. I recommend getting them as crafted spears are a decent early game ranged (or I guess) close range weapon if you aim for the head and the turtle shell is useful for a rain collector if your building area does not have water from a river or pond in that area. The cannibal village Farket mentioned is a little further away from that spot so you do not have to worry about cannibals getting to you👍

I like the summit spawn, i head down to the flashlight and modern axe and pot with goodies. then i head down to river which the water doesn't freeze perfect spot. But the downside is C Camps. follow the road by the river there is golf cart. there's lots of goodies in that area but they are in C camps. :) i make sticky bombs hide the bushes in the moose area.
Best way to use the machete is to crouch and go for the legs, specifically with fingers and cannibals. I can normally bring down a fingers without taking a hit. That method staggers most cannibals easily as well, just not the leaders and titans. The delay between the parry animation and swinging is a little long, so I normally just try not to get hit.
Idk man, I think the forest start is the best location to build and start off with. If you stay around that heli/lake location you can funnel enemies in certain locations. I could be wrong, never tried to build in the mountain start biome. Would be interesting, bc I believe you dont have to worry about food since there is a river right there for fish and water.
Farket can you make another speedrun video, there very helpful for how to beat the game, i remember i followed your forest 1 speed run and was able to guide my friends thru the game by taking them thru your speedrun. very helpful cuz i still don’t know how to beat this one.
Tip for the start of the game. Tell Kelvin to "collect sticks and follow me" Then "collect rocks and follow me" he'll drop the sticks and go get rocks. You can fill up on sticks and rocks as you go from location to location.
I like this game soo much i had my own start where i get a full inventory of stuff and many weapons like rebreather tazer machete axe full bone armor in inventory and on body. Also many other things
One thing I've never seen anyone mention: The Knight V. It collects leaves, but more importantly, seeds. If you hit, say, a berry bush you'll destroy the bush (permanently) and not get the berries, but I'm pretty sure you'll get seeds equal to what you would have got if you had picked the plant. So its actually a fantastic tool for gathering seeds if you want to make a garden, so long as you don't mind permanently wiping out the wild bush/plant. On that note, has ANYONE figured out gardening mushrooms in this game yet?
there is also some ropes and watches and drinks and a cpl other things just past the 2 guys on the poles at the beach they are kinda in the water but on the shore
omg this is my start i found the same things but in a pinball order.. also that waterfall isnt the best place to build it gets heavy canibal and mutant traffic as well as being very open

Hello farket. I watch all your videos and need your advice. Since update 1.0, the game crashes for me and my friends after a short time. We started a new server but after 1-2 or 3-4 hours the game crashes. My friends also have the problem on their server.
They should have an achievement called "everyone lives" if you finish the game without finding any of the flair waving guys, thus allowing them to live.
Snow spawn is the worst Forest spawn is best for save/load abuse (with respawning boxes turned on) Beach spawn is best for fast progression (machete, club, cave, then run south to build base near Forest spawn & next progression)
So you know behind the stones where beach spawn is There's some lot just so you know but i think you know it any way but if you did not now it now you now
I really wish they would get rid of the dying soldiers with the flares. It's such a bad idea. Literally, anything would have been better, even just a simple icon on the GPS.
Best "start" in the game is the forest. Very close your 1st basic needs and you can work your way to the north beach in a timely manner while gathering the handgun and machete. A hang glider and Knight V are close by. A quick base there with storage and your off to the 3 caves. I'm set up by day 3. Shovel up the shotgun (relatively close) and I always go for the revolver next. (an underrated weapon) North beach is a good starting base, but action dies out there as the mutants kill off all the local cannibals fairly quickly. Zipline the crap outta the area and when well stocked, move to the helo pad and build a 3 wide base on the pier. (and yes, you can build a 3 wide base on the pier) Farm the final bunker and cave for basically unlimited ammo. And with the addition of platforms, I can now easily build off the back of the said base for all my toys instead of using the other pier for that. Saves on defenses since my base designs are self defending with Kelvins help. After that, the game is just dead as there is nothing else to do except build. I don't use cheats as I like to play in the spirit of the game. I'm not a builder, just a survivalist. I framed 32 turtle eggs in 1 day after you said you had a hard time finding them while playing hard survival. Now, you can't swing a dead raccoon without finding turtles and their eggs. Thanks to influential but uninformed players like you, there isn't even a hard survival mode anymore, just a lower carrying capacity. Meh... You might have been a well deserved guru for The Forest, and even a console friend (since he still can't play :( ) asked about you and all I could say was that you had a meltdown over the game. Unless it's tips about building, please stop giving out bad advice. I've held my tongue out of due respect, but your advice on how to actually play the game is fail. Sorry. Edit; Play more, build less and build back up your street creds.
It makes me sad to hear you say " I've never really used it" While your playthroughs drove you crazy and made you hate the game. Almost every video I suggested you use the machete or the katana (I know you don't like it) for muddies since it makes them a non issue. Machete is one of the best weapons in the game until you get the katana since it's so fast and you can just strafe and destroy any fast moving enemies, like the ones that made you rage quit over and over again... PS: If you go into that cave early you will have mutants roaming your world early also.

You are right but that's wayyy easier with the spear because of its range

You forgot the beach start can opener. It's right there on the same part of the beach. adds 4 seconds to your start to grab it.
You can throw an arm to the cave shark to distract it. Plenty of them lying around

Don’t waste batteries, so don’t use them for stuff you can pick up, like gps locators! Use them for explosives and armour.
