Makes me feel a lil better to hear. Have the same year and model with 160k and I thought it was nearing breakdown even though it doesn't feel like it cuz usually cars last about that long.
@@TexasBassSlayerI currently going through this with my 05mdx. So far what I’ve seen people do is clean the shift solenoids, change the filter if you can access your and put new atf fluid.
I have an ‘06 pilot. And i love it to death. It is a workhorse, and I haul so much with it. Mine has been pretty beaten up by the previous owner, and when I received it, the oil was so old that it clogged the VTEC system and left me stranded, but I changed the oil and was good to go. So just regular routine maintenance and this car is a champ!
Sorry guys bad news.. my wife wrecked the pilot with 91,000 miles a couple months ago and it’s still sitting in my driveway wrecked...engine is good but need complete front end done
@@TrueBeingRealization unfortunately, I got T Boned and it was the end of my Pilot. It had 205K miles and I was looking into timing belt change at the time. Never did a valve adjustment and not sure if the previous owner did it. However, I did maintain/exchange everything else religiously (oil changes, trans fluids, coolant, brake fluid, pads, suspension, spark plugs, steering, etc)
Just bought a n '07 Pilot with 108,000 miles. One owner and all recommended service done on time. I'm hoping you guys are right and at 64 I hope this vehicle is my last to own in my lifetime. I plan on keeping up the maintenance as well. Cheers and thanks for the great video!
Not sure how much you drive but with only 108k you have a couple hundred thousand miles to go easily. Mines at 208k and has been maintained extremely well and runs like new and feels like it hasn’t lost a single horse power. I literally call in the sewing machine, it’s just so smooth at everything it does. I love it. I was looking for a first gen crv, this had the higher towing capacity and cargo room and to me just looks like a larger Crv. You won’t find me selling it ever, if I get rid of it, it’s because I wrecked it or someone stole it.
I have a 03 with 240000 miles. Only ever needed brakes, rotors & fluid changes ( Don't forget the rear fluid. Do it yourself). Trans shuddered at 200000. Needed trans fluid change ( And Dr Shudder actually works) and two pressure switches. Easy to fix yourself. A few other little issues but it starts and gets me to work every day.
Honda Pilots are awesome. Miss mine. Well over 250k miles. Not Kilometers. Miles. Comfortable leather interior and the only reason i dont have it anymore is because I got in a crash. Just regular maintenance items and it never left me stranded.
I have a 2007 Honda Pilot EX-L Navigation 4WD in the steel blue, solar green. That bright aqua blue, green color you see on the first gen pilot. Lol. Mine has 204,000 miles and I got it with 196,000 miles. I have owned it for the last 7 to 8 months. My previous owner bought my pilot brand new in California off of the showroom floor brand new and he kept it all this time for 12-13 years and resigned the title of interest of the vehicle on October 23, 2019. And I bought my pilot off of marketplace for 3200$ and I think it was sent to auction but the car was in perfect shape. The engine, transmission, interior and exterior looked very clean, shiny, and pristine. Absolutely no tear in the leather seats, no wear and tear anywhere in that car. My alignment on my pilot is absolutely perfect, steering wheel is straight. Engine idles and runs very smooth and drives nice. My pilot is probably one of the most rarest ones out there. I have a back up camera. 4WD vtm-4. Heated mirrors. Garage home link. Cruise control. Sunroof. Leather steering wheel. Oil life percentage. Outside temperature. Tire pressure monitoring system. Navigation. Premium audio system with subwoofer. Cargo net. 3rd row seating. Heated front seats. Power driver seat. Rear automatic A/C with vents. Front automatic climate control. Voice recognition with voice activated navigation. Which the button is located on the left bottom side steering wheel behind the audio controls. My alighment is straight. Steering wheel is straight. Car drives and points forward. Has 4 brand new aftermarket tires and rims. Had my valves bent back straight and a new engine piston head installed on my engine after I had some little mishap of overrevving the engine in the manual mode (learned my lesson and don’t try that lol) 700$ engine rebuild. Had new brakes installed and put on for free. The tires and rims were 800$ together. And the car was 3200$ and plus my timing belt was just changed and so was the battery right before I bought it too. I love my pilot so much and I take good care of it and I also keep it very clean and very spotless inside and out and that’s coming from a 20 year old owner of it. Lol. I bought my pilot 12-09-2019.
Man You're gonna be fine. You can easily get another 80 to 100 thousand miles on the clock with regular maintenance. They're awesome. I had 152 thousand miles when I bought it and I was up to 278 thousand miles and still ran smooth before I crashed. That's the only reason I don't have it anymore. Regular maintenance like oil changes, tune ups and belts will keep you on the road. I drove it everywhere everyday at least 80 miles a day because I live In a rural area. Absolutely a great vehicle.
I just want to say that this is a good car. I suggest you that keep your eyes when is require to change the oil and fluids, do not left all what you car need to change. In fact it is not expensive to keep it in a good conditions. I have a Honda Pilot 2004 with more that 325.000 miles and is running so good.
@@medievalmusiclover Do you guys know if the older Honda Pilots were a little shorter in length than the new ones, they seem too big now, I was looking for a smaller one?
In 2016 I bought an 04 1 owner pilot that had 74k miles and it had every service record that had been done at the same dealership, its now sitting at 144k miles and I've driven all over the country and hauled all kinds of stuff in it. It's the best vehicles I've ever owned!
I have an 04 Honda Pilot have had her for eight years with 263,000 miles. Have only had to replace two tires, the battery, window assembly, and just recently the headlight. All parts replaced were factory placement not bad for a vehicle that's eighteen years old.
I have an 03 that’s about to hit 260K, I can tell you it’s one of those cars that will start every time with no issues, I’d strongly recommend it if you need a family hauler for cheap
My trans is bad in my 03 205k but it actually runs fine. Doesn’t go into first I just do it manually and it slips when I put it back in normal drive at like 40mph 😂 engine runs like a top tho did spark plugs recently
Just bought a 2005 Honda Pilot 255,000 runs great.. could put a glass of water on the dashboard and would not see any vibration. I asked the owner if he had ever had any major maintenance done. He said no. I'm replacing control arms and rear sway bar links. Paid 800$ for it and it seems to run like a champ
@shadowman1992 I bought it used with that many miles. So didn't know the history of the vehicle. I had to sell that one. But I have a 2006 Honda pilot now. Has 380,000 miles. The lady I bought it from had years of receipts and I never seen any valve adjustment in the receipts. It runs and drives great. But the rear cradle is really rusted out and is a big point of concern for these pilots in the rust belt
@SSanscraintenotaboat sorry about the rust. Rust sure sucks. But I was just curious man asking a lot of honda owners the same question because I have not gotten a valve adjustment as well but they say if you don't it will wreck your engine so just seeing how far some engines go without one like yours
I loved this video. Thanks for the 1st Gen Honda Pilot love video. 2005 Pilot, 203,000 miles! Engine bay is louder than it was 7 years ago, 3rd gear shifts harder, and trouble codes for the Catalytic converter, but is still going strong. Had a radiator burst on me back in 2013, other than that, she's loyal.
Can’t complain about my 05 Honda Pilot at 182,000. Has took me everywhere and to and from Colorado-Texas on a failed wheel bearing and Bad Cat converter
@@dwaynecarlson8953 Did you install the VCMTUNER II - Advanced on your car, to deactivate the ECO MODE? Does your car burn or consume any oil? What brand name of engine oil and oil filter do you use? What is the interval between oil changes? Thank you in advanced.
2007 Honda Pilot with 199k miles first car ever and is honestly the most reliable car. I keep up with regular maintenance recently doing a timing belt kit, spark plugs, ignition coils, valve adjustment, radiator, battery, alternator, drive belt and tensioner, lower control arms, and rack and pinion which was failing. Use only Honda fluid which I change every year. I’m about to do my thermostat, shocks and struts, and rear coil springs. I still use Valvoline conventional oil but I’ve been thinking about switching to royal purple synthetic but nothing sure if I should.
My 2008 Pilot has 180,000 miles on it and it’s the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’ll never part with it. Meticulously maintained. Most comfortable seats ever. It’s never broken down. Reliable driving cross-country 16 hours/day in sweltering August 2019, moving from NC to AZ. 🙏🏼
I have a 2005 Pilot 210k miles. Still running strong, trans makes the infamous high pitched whining noise when driving. My girl has a 2008 Pilot 250k miles it is still good.
Yes. 340k on a thermostat. You got your money's worth. That's what I consider expected wear and tear items. alternator's starter's thermostat's tie rods, of course we're gonna have to replace that stuff every 100 to 150k miles, fix that baby, keep it and save your money.
I own 2004 Honda Pilot with 315,000 miles now. No misfiring. Original engine still running strong now on a 4th timing belt and water pump. I love it. No it is not for sale. Changed transmission at 215,000 miles. I still have original alternator and starter in it. I tow a utility 6x12 double axle trailer all the time. Never left me stranded, very reliable. Just don’t be like Eric, fix the obvious. Any leaks or noises come up, fix them right away. Lol. That’s what I do with mine. Power steering leaked replaced the rostering rack $100. Transmission leaked one day, replaced it with a 90,000 mile used one and put all new seals and oil on it.egr passages at intake plugged up, cleaned them. Replaced spark plugs 2 or 3 times. Replaced cv axles twice already too. And also the breaks and tires every few years. Never any electrical issues. Radio works fine. 2004 is definitely better than 2003 models. It is not free to maintain this car but it is cheaper than replacing it! And it still drives like a dream even after those miles. Very impressive!
I bought a 2007 Honda Pilot basic model not loaded with options, it has 326k kms and has rust, I originally purchased it to flip it but I like the looks of it should I keep it or flip it and find a better one? Thanks!
I really like my 04 Pilot exp, It has been with me over 18years, now it has over 170000 miles on it, still running great. I like it style, rugged ,spacious, practicality , fule economic , powerful engine, and most importantly reliability, I will keep it for few more years.
Mine was Honda Pilot 2019, and hit 13k miles. I had lots of problems during the time such as annoying noise, vibration, electronic malfunction also got recalls several times. That was really awful. But I end up trade in Pilot 2021, and no issue so far. My previous one was manufactured on a day before holiday I guess...
My 2005 Pilot been in family since new purchased in Hawaii flown back to the states, Texas to NY many trips 268,000 miles and going air still works, center light took a crap, dvd player still works❤❤❤this truck. Pretty good mpg for her size.
I have a 2006 V6 4 wheel drive Pilot with 280,000 miles on it. Runs like a fucking champ. Got it from a buy here pay here a couple months ago. I already put about 10,000 miles on it and the only thing I’ve done is give it 2 oil changes, keep engine fluid levels great, changed the rear brakes and new head lights. What I can’t get past is the Fact that it has a V-tech Engine
Just sold an 09 Pilot (first year of the second model) with 196k miles and it never needed anything aside from routine maintenance and a catalytic converter replacement. Being New England it was slowly rotting so moved on and Replaced it with an 08 Pilot with 135k with no rust. Great cars all around especially for adventure families.
I have four Pilots in the 2004-11 range and am happy with them. They do have their quirks, like the O2 sensor that intermittently triggers the check engine light, but are solid overall.
Bought my wife a 2004 pilot in 2010 with 55k miles on it. It has 210k miles on it now and is a very reliable vehicle. I do all the required maintenance on it. Besides the normal maintenance, brakes, tires etc, i have only had two unscheduled repairs. One was a fwd axle shaft due to a damaged cv joint caused by a torn boot that was not found untill too late. $100 and a hour of my time and it was fixed. The other problem was the notorious jammed ignition switch. Pulled out the switch and pulled out the damaged lock wafers and put back together. I can buy a newer car if she wants, but she says no everytime i ask. They are reliable vehicles that are easy to work on and parts are not very expensive
This is an ad off Craigslist. They are asking $3200 for it. What do you think? 2005 Honda Pilot with 264k miles. All maintenance done on time, timing belt, water pump, etc. Good for another 50k before next. Most of the struts and bearings have been replaced over the years. New tires, front brakes, starter. 6 disc changer, cloth seats but they are in excellent condition. Wired for trailer lights. A/C very strong and cold, blower motor replaced last year. Some small rust in the usual places. I have put on some fill in paint to keep it from getting worse, but it is easy body work to properly fix it, if you want.
My first car, low matinence and runs even though i was late on oil changes etc. due to no car knowledge but still runs really good. i was gonna sell it for a newer car but overtime i grew more attached to how realiable it has not had anything major go bad on it despite 185k miles.
8:06 Sorry, It's a FWD based platform (the engine is connected to the front wheels, it doesn't drive the rear wheels directly) with a viscous coupling rear and, so if "if it can't go to 4WD", it is actually FWD.
My Pilot 2006 LX just pass 200K. Other than a couple of batteries, 2 radiators, 2 timing belts, absolutely reliable! My CD stacker is not working but everything else is ok, so no complains! I also had the Odyssey around that time but no transmission issue for both. I guess I was lucky. Actually right after I bought the car brand new, I used the Synthetic oil (Mobile) and I swear it worked (I actually had a story but that's for another post) so I expected the engine to go far and beyond. I live in Utah and I also had the undercoating done which probably help prevent rusting.
My dad had a 2015 Pilot, ran flawless and got the job done. Needed more towing capacity so he traded it in for a truck. It had very little depreciation on trade it which was awesome. Anyways edits were solid as usual. Hope everyone is staying healthy 🙏
Driven by Boost totally, the new ones are slick. Way better than the 2nd gen and that stupid grille. That’s honestly the one thing Honda is lacking, a good tow vehicle. Thank man, I appreciate it! Same to you!
Got a 06 Pilot w/ just shy of 200k miles. It’s the 2wd model w/ cylinder deactivation. Only issue it’s had is needing rear shocks/front struts. Still runs like a clock, getting 25 mpg on the highway.
John I would strongly recommend the VCM muzzler. Many earily Gen 1s and 2’s had premature engine wear due to the cylinder deactivation. 3 cylinders are used the majority of the time thus they wear out earily. This is similar to the old Cadillac V8-6-4 system they had in the mid 80’s. Unfortunately, GM used their customer base as Guinea Pigs for this experiment.
My 07 4WD right now in winter gets around 18MPG combined. The best I got on the Hwy with cruise on @70mph was 23mpg. That was in the middle of summer. Mileage will be lower in winter due to the reformulated gas and colder weather.
I own a 2008 Honda Pilot. 129,000 miles Best reliability Curiosity. What upgrades should I get done The only thing I have done is upgrade the front rotors too slotted rotors for better cooling and left the rear regular rotors.
I’ve got a 2006 2wd base model with 168,000 miles. It’s been used as a daily driver, Florida to North Carolina , and NY back and forth several times with my wife and 3 kids. It’s part of our family.
lol you ripped hoovie’s theme song. lol. love it! i ain’t even mad or trollin’. i love it when people do stuff like that. especially when it’s not as if he has trademarked or copyrighted the song or anything. he obviously hasn’t flagged your video. besides, i came here for high mileage first gen pilots and i got what i came for. thanks! now i must decide if i want to actually purchase
Honda transmissions have their own filters and drain plugs and require fluid replacement every 30K or so. The EGR cover on the intake can get clogged without a periodic cleaning. Motor mounts and harmonic balancer also tend to be problem areas, but these are wear items. The tensioner pulley arms can crack. I bought an 07 Pilot in late 2018 and it exhibited all those issues. Thankfully, I was able to do most of the work myself while incurring a minimum amount of shop labor costs. If you can find a clean one, they are worth sinking some money into.
i just got an 06' mdx with 95k on it. WHAT A GEM. anyhow its full of cherrios in the back seat and teddy bears. perfect for my family. Ive started replacing every sensor that has to do with engine and exhaust. hope to run it up to 400k
168k miles on my 04 pilot. Had the trans rebuilt at 159k for $2500. Also just replaced tie rods for about $550. I love the vehicle. I am tall and its spacious and just feels solid and well built. Believe it or not it took over from my 04 lexus LS430 as my all time favorite vehicle. Probably just because I love the feel of it combined with how comfortable it is doing day to day errands. I replace and fix expected wear and tear items as needed. I just can't see putting out the money to replace this vehicle.
This car has a fuse in the radio. When it pops the radio still works but the fuse burns into the back of the radio and shits the radio off. I ruined a perfectly good Kenwood radio in my 07 exl. I'm at 280k and it's alternator just failed. The transition is very cranky as well and my spark plugs are about kicked. I had to replace a cv axel and a bearing at 240k and my control arm bushings are ripped. Almost forgot to mention I had to reseal the oil pan gasket at 260k and my steering belt is slowly starting to leak lol.
I just bought one about 8 days ago a 2006 Honda Pilot. It has 266k miles on it. The VSA light just came on and it was smoking what you think wrong with it ?
I daily a 2005 silver Pilot. It has 117K. Ive put 64K on in the last year. Courier car.. It is very reliable and a beast in any snowfall MN can throw at it..
I’m the original owner of a 2003 EXL 4WD with 185k. I’ve only done tires, battery, timing belt x2, motor mounts and regular maintenance. This is the best SUV I have ever owned ZERO problems! I live in central Florida.
I'm in South Florida and our cars don't take the beating cars take in states that snow and the road are salted. My 2008 Pilot VP has 206K miles and is still reliable.
I have an 08 Pilot with 225k on it. I bought it with 149k. I test cell phone coverage for a living so I have a few equipment in the car that cannot be turned off while working 8-9 hours every day driving nonstop. Except for restroom breaks in which case I would still leave the car running, I would use the valet key to lock it manually from the outside . This means that my Pilot's engine was on every day for 8 to 10 hours a day. I did this job for 17 months. I was surprised it lasted this long ( still running ). Only 2 things failed, the alternator and the radiator.
My 2003 is fantastic. Has 45,000 miles on it and it was my mom’s car and I try to take super good care of it by detailing the heck out of it all the time. Minor modifications include new led lamps and subtle chrome trim. Love the soft cushy ride. People still think it’s a new car with the clean and understated styling!
Great video! I can tell from the road signs & Lowe’s you’re in Wrentham/Plainville. I live a few miles away, have a 2004 Pilot, 272K miles, for sale. Looks exactly like the one in the video. Only prob is the idle control, goes up & down from 1000-2000 rpm. Can’t get the screws off the IAC to replace it! Other than that, everything runs well. I am original owner, kept it in great shape. If anyone wants to buy this beauty, pls reply!
Someone is selling me a Honda 2006 with everything new, I don't know much about cars but he claimed that it has 0 miles ran as everything in it is brand new. The car looks nice, just interior leather is a bit messed up. I'm just trying to buy my first car but he's pricing it for $5,200 and I'm comfortable with $3,000 because I'm starting college and need a vehicle to get around. I'm trying to negotiate but also learn about this car as I don't really know much about cars at all. My question would be, Is it worth buying at the price he's selling it to me for?
Prince_Vegeta WOW, if it’s actually new like he’s saying, they it’s absolutely worth the asking price. I have a hard time believing it has 0 miles, but if that’s true, then it’s certainly worth it.
I have an 03 pilot I changed the transmission fluid and the engine got wet from rain and now it won't start. not even a click. I do hear the fuel pump start. I don't have a clue where to look for the problem
I have one of the worst years 2005. I know these vehicles, and after going over it, and buttoning it up with Genuine Honda parts from the dealer, it is a beast. Shifts smooth, lots of power, looks so good. I use it as a workhorse. I got one for my mom a while back, and it got hit and totaled. Replaced it with a TL, and I got a MDX on the side to use for hauling purposes. I traded my TSX and MDX for this Pilot and haven't regretted it for a second.
@@ayuubbalker5946 When they start breaking, replace them. Honda outsourced a good number of parts. Check out piloteers forum for a wealth of information. If it isn't broke don't fix it.
Our '07 AWD EX-L has 230K on it with regular mx. Aside from normal mx, I've had to replace the blower motor, one of the ignition coils and the tensioner pulley for the serpentine belt. Mechanic replaced the engine and gearbox mounts. The suspension bushings are starting to show their wear with a lot of creaking over the bumps. I'm thinking LCA's and ball joints are coming up for replacement soon. It's seeping some fluid that I think is coming from the power steering system, but the our mechanic says the rear main seal needs to be replaced. Hoping it's not both! either way, the repairs are a heck of a lot cheaper than a new car. I don't care for all the safety features and cameras on modern vehicles, so I'll stick with just having VSC and ABS.
Super reliable. I have a 2004 with 210k on it and it runs amazingly well. This engine can't be killed. Honda makes the best engine. I do have a P1457 that I have to figure out, but still runs awesome.

I have an 04 with 260k miles that I drive everyday from Modesto to everywhere around the Bay Area. It’s 100% stock. Thinking about coilovers and exhaust for it since I heavily drive on freeway I want better mileage
@Whopem Harder what I actually meant to say was HANDLING and yes coilovers = less MPG. On my accord went from averaging 36 mpg from Sacramento to Modesto. Now I only get 31 mpg but the handles are so worth it
2004 I have 327,000... kicks out of all wheel drive at 40mph. And then is in 2 wheel front wheel drive... Doesn't seem to be a problem... Been doing that for 50,000+ miles. I think its caused by excessive play in transmission gears... Timing belt kit, next on the list.... Wasn't sure if i wanted to do it or not. Looks like this car will probably go 400,000+, so I guess ill get it done.... The last timing belt, appears to have been done at 170,000mi...

Any rules of thumb when investing in required repair/ maint. Is NOT economical or a good investment, and “waste of money” with the older pilots OR similar vehicles? Maybe a loaded question, I can understand! I’m green with auto mechanics so, 🤷♀️ 🙂 Appreciate any input!! (Have a very well taken care of 2005 1st Gen 249,730 miles - in AZ)
I got my 2003 honda pilot at 65,000 miles, 4 year's later it's at 135,00 miles. Tomorrow it is being towed to the mechanic to rebuild the transmission 😒 I LOVE my car so it's worth it to me 😁
I got ripped off on an 04 pilot. The dealer sold it for 4000 as "ready to drive" without disclosing that the previous owner traded it in because the transmission was bad. Two days later the transmission went out. I contacted an attorney (failure to disclose known defects is fraud.)but the lawyer wanted over 300 just for the initial consultation. I let it sit for a while, but after I finally got the transmission rebuilt, the rest of the car seems great. Since I don't know its history, a timing belt is next on the agenda.
I own a 04 pilot with 299k miles on it. Will be at 300k in 2 days. Mine is super solid. It's had its failures like accessories but no more than all cars have. I'm a mechanic so I kinda know what I'm doing but its all about maintenance and just knowing of how to drive a car. Highest mileage car I've owned and sold was a 87 vw golf with 336k miles that still ran great. Also have a 00 Buick regal with 255k miles on it and the last 100k of those miles are ripping 400hp. Lots of drag races and all that fun stuff. 12 second grandpa car. Most reliable car I've ever owned was a 98 Pontiac grand prix gt. Drove it to 240k and it never left me stranded. Repairs were cheap, easy and rare. It died in a flood.
@@kevinjefferson9739 it's fwd normally but you can put it in 4wd. Works really good too. Took it to a place called box canyon a couple weeks ago without any issues. 2 days ago I did have to replace a power steering line. She's at 315k miles now.
@@Erik-kp1ux Did you install the VCMTUNER II - Advanced on your car, to deactivate the ECO MODE? Does your car burn or consume any oil? What brand name of engine oil and oil filter do you use? What is the interval between oil changes? Thank you in advanced.
@@kevinjefferson9739 sorry but my pilot doesn't have VCM. I think the first year of that was 05 or 06. I mostly use full synthetic valvoline and a wix oil filter. Change it every 5k miles. Don't replace the air filter until it's pretty dirty. A dirty filter traps more dirt than a clean one does. The engine burns about a quart every 5k miles, leaks a little.
I’m so upset. I bought a 2007 Honda Accord private sale and it had good carfax and it looked like the previous owner was always on top of things. The car has 155k miles and everything is breaking!!! The starter, rack and pinion steering, valve cover gasket, control arms, and a few other things. Is this all normal for these cars? Is it worth fixing the issues?
Don’t worry! I know it’s frustrating, fixing things on cars. But it’s inevitable on older cars, no matter the make and model. All of those things are pretty typical, aside from the steering rack. I’d say, if the engine and transmission are working well, and there isn’t a lot of body rust, just keep the car and put the work into it. Check out 1AAuto or the TRQ channel. They have some good repair tutorials, and could save you some $$$ if you do it on your own. Good luck!!

Michele Smart I think that price is too high for that mileage and wear, especially if it’s been towing a trailer. $2200, max.

8:06 Sorry, It's a FWD based platform (the engine is connected to the front wheels, it doesn't drive the rear wheels directly) with a viscous coupling rear and, so if "if it can't go to 4WD", it is actually FWD.
my 2004 pilot just crossed the 200,000 mile mark and still drives perfectly

@@tavy7200 city 18mpg

My 2003 pilot has lasted over 220000...really no major issues that weren't user caused. It still shifts gears great too
Honda transmissions have their own filters and drain plugs and require fluid replacement every 30K or so.

Just bought an 05 anyway you can tell my parts you replaced with genuine Honda parts? Would help me a lot thanks
@@ayuubbalker5946 When they start breaking, replace them. Honda outsourced a good number of parts. Check out piloteers forum for a wealth of information. If it isn't broke don't fix it.
@@ayuubbalker5946 Still cruising around in the Pilot? Mine is going strong. Just did Aisin timing belt kit. Ruthenium NGK plugs.
Have a 2003 Pilot with 276k miles all under the original engine and transmission
Hello, is your Pilot FWD or 4WD? Thank you.
I have a 2003 Honda Pilot and has had not one issue. Very impressive for a first year model except for updating some suspension parts.
Would you still recommend this car and what year? Especially with the known issues they have???
Super reliable. I have a 2004 with 210k on it and it runs amazingly well. This engine can't be killed. Honda makes the best engine. I do have a P1457 that I have to figure out, but still runs awesome.
jjust buy a new gas tank cap. Your cap has developed a small air leak,.
@TerryJulianLive nah. Tried that, didn't work. Probably the purge solenoid underneath. Been too cold here to deal with it.
I have a 2004 Honda Pilot EX, Leather and DVD..... At 307k now. Never had problems with the engine or transmission. I do need to replace my oil pan, and one of my back windows is taped up until i buy a new motor but its good other than that lol
Now I only get 31 mpg but the handles are so worth it
Did you ever have to get a valve adjustment on your honda ?
My current 2007 Honda Pilot has only arnd 50k in miles. Safe to say I’m going to have this car for a long time lol
I drive a 2006 Pilot with 236k miles on it. Well taken care of and drives like a dream. It's an EX-L 3.5L v6 4x4 and the VTEC engine is very peppy, and I say that coming from a 300hp turbo car previously. I am about to drive to California this week, from the Midwest, and I have no fears towing my Airstream or catamaran with it.
ive just purchased a 2006 ploit , when starting it runns then idles really high . i only paid 600 hundred for it, the check engine light is on the vsa lite im just lost im use to chey or fords. was told there might be electrical problems. just need help please.
Most impressive part is a driver from Massachusetts used their turn signal to indicate a lane change @ 9:23.
Hahaha, that's a good point.
Have the same car - runs like a champ at 180000
I'm thinking of buying a 2003 Pilot. I read that early Pilots had transmission problems. Think I ought to get it?
If you have the option, I would consider searching for a later-model Pilot, ideally between 2006-2008. Most of the bugs were worked out by then.
Don't go for 2003
I got my 2003 honda pilot at 65,000 miles, 4 year's later it's at 135,00 miles. Tomorrow it is being towed to the mechanic to rebuild the transmission 😒 I LOVE my car so it's worth it to me 😁
Well, my my my, 2009 pilot 4wd 205000 love it, extremely dependable.
Did you ever have to get a valve adjustment on your honda ??
I got ripped off on an 04 pilot. The dealer sold it for 4000 as "ready to drive" without disclosing that the previous owner traded it in because the transmission was bad. Two days later the transmission went out. I contacted an attorney (failure to disclose known defects is fraud.)but the lawyer wanted over 300 just for the initial consultation. I let it sit for a while, but after I finally got the transmission rebuilt, the rest of the car seems great. Since I don't know its history, a timing belt is next on the agenda.
How bad is the pcv valve on this generation? Mine is 08 with 267k km
I have 2004 Honda Pilot. Less issues. Just like you said regular maintenance
Do the valve guide adjustment with those plugs/coils and your misfires will magically disappear!
Hello, is your Pilot FWD or 4WD? Thank you.
Good luck!!
