I was a Walmart employee a few months back and they had to let me go due to getting sick via seasonal allergies and customers violating the no pets allowed policy thus exposing me to dog dander (which I'm very allergic to) instead of letting me heal up and get back to work. Let's just say I honestly wouldn't put it past that company to kidnap and hold a family hostage for some sick scheme.

The fact that we figure out demons might be in the fnaf universe through a book, only sold in Walmart, attached to two other stories that have been already told is gonna be one of the funniest things i have ever seen. That should be a new symptom for the fnaf books. "Casually and randomly dropping big lore reviews"

The story doesn't even suggest demons actually exist in FNAF. All it does is have the smoke turn into a horned demon in the eyes of the crowd, symbolizing their view of Mr. Burton. It's pretty simple. Also this story doesn't even mention anything remotely FNAF related.

I don't even care about lore, what drew me to these books were giving short horror tales to some of the animatronics
and then it devolved into slime monsters, kids at play signs, and now just straight up a demon
Out of curiousity, do you have a favorite fnaf animatronic who didn't have a book story Nick? Mine's Withered Freddy or the Plushbabies, I actually came up with a Plushbaby story while using the washroom where a girl stole them and they at night would slowly suffocate her, a metaphore for greed, not super deep but it puts more effort into being fnaf than like, half of these short stories.

I forgot but “Monster” also has a, wait for it, a name swap error! The sentence says “Liam must have soaked Mr. Burton in kerosene” instead of correctly saying “Drew must have soaked Mr. Burton in kerosene”. In the book, it’s page 509. Can’t have a bad story without a name error lol. Just wanted to mention it, though you may have left it out to save your head from more book slamming lol.

Ya know what would've made for a better story? If Drew got the old man as a new neighbor. Things were going well between them at first, until the old man acts suspicious. Drew starts to stalk the old man, his parents tell him this is unhealthy, but he keep going. No one believes his crazy conspiracy theory. He has this strange urge to go to the pizzaplex, and once Drew goes outside, the old man finally puts his foot down. He aims a gun at Drew, forcing the kid to run into the pizzaplex. Once drew is shot in the foot, he bleeds black oil, and there's a metallic part underneath the "skin". Drew was an animatronic the whole time, and the old man was human. The real drew passed away years ago, so the parents ordered friendly face tech to replicate their son. It goes to show that some people just can't let go after death, and go as far as to lie to their own kin about it.
    But hey, that's just a stupid rewrite!😂

Well done, you survived. I'm sorry if I got your hopes up, I just didn't wanna ruin the vibe in that comments section.
Anyway, this book is so weirdly disconnected from FNAF. Like the characters being disconnected is pretty normal for these books I know that but the fact that Freddy's, the pizzaplex or anything else isn't even mentioned by name is crazy. Like even stories like Frailty feel obligated to at least mention the pizzaplex. Based on the leaks, this story was originally gonna be in Tales 5 and then delayed to Tales 7 before finally being relegated to Walmart exclusive. I guess tying it into FNAF might've been the issue or maybe it was getting the message across. Drew's whole plan seems to be a commentary on moral panics. Oh well, maybe the interactive novels will work better.

What sold it to me was 1) The story's theme of "evil" being badness being committed in the name of goodness, which is what Drew was doing, 2) The reveal that Drew lied about Mr. Burton abusing him and really was just doing it for the lulz, and 3) The detail that Drew smiled and gave a thumbs up despite being burned alive. But yeah, I agree with you...this story should have been scrapped from the very premise alone.

So… surprise, surprise. There really was a “ninth” Tale from the Pizzaplex, granted that’s a huge ask for what we got. Cool review btw, felt like we were back at it again lol, liked how you had to exaggerate saying “JustaPizza” lol. Great intro lol, every entry must be reviewed indeed. Though, not every Fnaf game is “invincible”, you’ve shown that before ;).
I did get the book itself… as I didn’t want to leave my Tales collection unfinished, what a fool am I. I was surprised though that ALL the stories from books 2 and 3 are included, a good choice actually so I can refresh from Monster with stories from two of the stronger books from the series. And a poster helps too lol. You saved yourself by not getting the book, you would have really been faz-dead by slamming that monster (wait… not a pun I swear) against your head lol.
Before getting into it, this is the Liam and Drew story! The one that was replaced from books 5 and 7 by GGY and Tiger Rock. Fun fact: you can still find old descriptions of book 7 with this story included by googling Tiger rock and looking for images showing the book’s back cover. The description is slightly different though, will mention later.
“Monster” is definitely the worst Tales story, and that’s just for having no relation at all to the Pizzaplex or Fnaf! Though it gave me a few chuckles lol. You hit all the main reasons on why the story fails, making no sense is definitely the main reason. Like, my favorite example is when Drew is explaining to Liam about all the “truth” about Mr. B and shows his scars and Liam asks how he got those and Drew literally just shrugs and goes “idk lol”. And later when Liam realizes that Drew is just wack, Liam says all his scars were from Drew “being clumsy” like that explains anything. Like the story hits you in the face that things don’t make sense lol. Also, Mr. Burton… no not that name (but he is a sweet old man in this one). On the “pages on pages” thing, for this story I’ve noticed is the most useless the protag exposition is because all of it doesn’t contribute to anything. Only Drew’s stuff matters and his is the shortest I think (and his is summed up as “envious teen that likes journalism mad that he can’t access his trust fund inheritance), Liam is a supposed good wrestler that gets beat by a shove from Drew and has an actually abusive living father that isn’t even a character. So in this story it’s obvious that the exposition is there for filler cuz it doesn’t do anything. I caught on to the twist mainly when Drew mentions that evil is something like “disguising evil as something good” and it being an easy-to-see contradiction with all his newspaper campaigns. Though Drew being a demon/demon possessed is very blunt on showing that he was evil. This story does get comedy points for the two swears, a first for the series lol. Btw, cool notes, Drew going through so many girlfriends gave me a laugh too. The twist and just the whole third act is just senseless craziness. Drew sets JustaPizza on fire and controls the flames to erase Mr. Burton and then burns himself all fancily to show off and that demon shaped smoke cloud is the icing on the cake. The red herrings aren’t even all that convincing except for the blood thing which Drew set up by killing a rat (that’s unhinged), and the nightmares aren’t even spooky. Can they even count as Nightmalaise then lol. And then the ending showing that all the people forget magically except Liam who makes his paper that further shows the point about evil disguised as good. Well Liam, you’re not the only one who will remember this bud.
How does Fnaf fit in to this story? To me, it totally isn’t! The scar thing didn’t really click with me being springlock related, I was thinking more animal scratch scars going along with the shape-shifting demon thing. That one sentence about a “national franchise” is reaching hard lol, I’d be shocked if it is trying to say the Pizzaplex is built on that spot, nice pick fazbear enterprises lol. That line in particular feels like a last minute choice to try and relate it to FNaF. One thing that I kinda see is that the events of a newspaper exposing a pizza place’s owner of being evil could be some hint that something similar happened with a Freddy Fazbear’s or somethin, but that’s about it.
Nice conclusion, in fact I said similar things on your Tales review video too about how main characters are purposely not used well in these stories and using vagueness to replace actual quality for the sake of “not breaking canon”. Btw, “bass-ackwards”? That’s a good one lol.
When reading this story, I felt like it was made just to make use of this plot and Liam and Drew specifically. “Monster” has some elements that reminded me of two other stories. A teen using a school newspaper… or a writing project and discovering a secret about a person in a pizza place? GGY is a good mystery with Tony doing that and it’s related to the Pizzaplex. There’s moments where Liam feels his whole world is going crazy and is unreal. It’s a small part but it reminds me of parts in Tiger Rock when Kai is doubting his fake world. I find it charitable that this story had its better parts reworked into the two stories that replaced it, and scholastic bit the faz-bullet and found a way to finish the story but without any relation to the Pizzaplex which maybe was the toughest part for “Monster”. This story’ description was slightly changed, now it is Liam and Drew “…writing an exposé about their boss” which before it was general “…writing an exposé in their school newspaper”. Really, “Monster” may have just been a prototype for GGY where Liam and Drew were gonna expose the Pizzaplex and face trouble with Gregory… or Vanny ooh. But we have what it is now, a very unrelated “FNaF” story.
To end, I would say this is the last Pizzaplex story, but the free interactive novel is about the Pizzaplex too. So one last ride through Fazbear’s biggest project fellas.
This final tale is a letdown though, I guess the real ninth Tale From the Pizzaplex is the limbs and heads we broke off along the way lol.
