The great thing about Tokyo or Hongkong is the streets itself makes a great prop, and it is easier to isolate the subject. But you are really good to guide your models and get the best out of them. and your post-edit is very superb. Keep up the good work.

    • @simonmaduxx6777

I have shot in Tokyo and I don't really see a different than much of anything.
I have met and talked to amateur Japanese photographers also and have known some professionals.
All of the work is basically similar, it comes down to skill and the model and the makeup. Sometimes you get to use really good imagination and other times there's not much to work with and you basically just shoot what you see.
Some models are not good with movement so you have to try to make some magic and make their angles more dynamic.
I shot my friend in Tokyo a few months ago and I love her face for portrait but she does not move very well so many of the pictures were not good.
Many of the best shoots you see is either because the photographer can make magic without much to work with or the production has all of the pieces in place like the model the style the location and help to be able to make a good shoot.

Love the video! It actually convinced me to get the 24-105 f4 when I noticed even though you were shooting on the 24-70 2.8 you rarely ever went below F4. I was debating about getting the 24-105 f2.8 but I just felt it was too big and I don't really make money off photography so it doesn't seem worth. I do feel it's time for a step up from the stock lens and the 50mm I've been using. Now after seeing what you do and how you keep it around f4-f5 I'm convinced the 24-105 f4 is more than enough for what I want to do. (You were shooting on a the EF versions but I have an R8 so ima probably get the RF versions) Anyway love the content, thanks for the inspiration! lol

I'm happy for Jessica and have to admit frustrated as well. Everything in this video I have done in Tokyo since 2015. I reached out to Japanese photographers and Americans who work in Japan and they have been absolutely unhelpful and unwilling to give information and tips on how to succeed. Literally everything you see in this video I've done 100 times. I've also been shooting Fashion Week for 10 years. I've watched influencers go from nobody to somebody. I have actual real media credits to my name. But no opportunities from all my work. :/
The internet's and the social medias are of finicky beast. Your account either gets chosen or it doesn't ...and it's really sad because I put a lot of time and thousands of dollars into my Japan projects and they haven't caught fire.
I get to see everybody else doing the same work but they are reaping rewards from it and I'm still trying to make a name for myself even with my network their etc.
Again I'm not mad at her, I'm glad she can profit off of her work. I'm still looking to be able to at least cash in on some credit and opportunities.
Cheers all. Life isnt supposed to be fair, and my work is a shining example.

A lot of it is personality and social media. Got both?
In terms of not finding photographers to give information and tips on how to succeed, I highly doubt that. There’s a ton of professional photographers on here. If you’ve been shooting fashion week for ten years, you should be the one giving tips as well. Do ya?

I get a stuck rotating filter (like your CPL, or a VND) loose by wrapping a wide rubber band around it. That gives you more grip and tends to lock the rotating part to give you the needed torque. It never fails for me. Good luck with it! 🙂

I will stay away from mirrorless as long as I can..... it might seem funny, but the fact is that even a model benefits from hearing the shutter, it creates a (slight) bond + understanding between the shooter and photographer. Both know what is happening and when its happening with a heavy click/click/click confirmation.....

I never use a polariser for portraits. It really doesn't help. Landscape, architecture (especially involving glass), automotive I use a polariser. I noticed Jess switched from landscape to portrait orientation with her camera without adjusting the polariser, which completely negates what little effect it does have in these situations. The polariser will also lose some light, forcing you to up the ISO or shutter speed when there is less light around. Love the pics overall though. Composition was nice, model was great. The backlit shot with lens flare 👌

@@j5daniel182 I did watch the whole vid. I mentioned the backlit photo with the flare - which is where she mentions the stuck filter. She used the polarizer for another portrait shoot in a previous video. A lens filter wrench is a couple of dollars.

Shooting screen 4:03 Photographing models on the road is very dangerous and occupying the road is a violation of the Road Traffic Act in Japan.
As a basic requirement for professional photographers, it is your responsibility to ensure the safety of your models and follow the law.
Above all, it is very dangerous for you as the photographer.
When shooting with the Canon EOS5D IV viewfinder, you cannot see the rear view, so it is dangerous because you cannot see passing vehicles and people!!
If you want to temporarily occupy the sidewalk or road for commercial purposes, you may need to apply for permission in advance from the local police.
