Imagine what this show could have been had Tyra acted more like a coach who genuinely wanted to guide them through the industry and they set up real usable photoshoots
I completely agree! Watch seasons 1 & 2 Tyra is on almost all of the shoots guiding the models. She's a supermodel for a reason. So when she shares her wealth of knowledge the girls always benefit from it. By this time Top Model was far from a modeling competition. It was a machine.

Agreed 100%. I would love to see a model show where they take 10 Models and turn them INTO Super-Models, and they get actual coaching and help, instead of dumb photoshoots and challenges that have nothing to do with models.

Jessica, you pointing out that you don't want group shots in a model book just further proved to me that they take unusable photos on purpose so that the girls struggle to profit from being on the show. An individual photo from him would be HUGE for any model's portfolio, and of course there was no way they could convince him to lower the quality of his photography, so the only way to make it unusable was a group shot. 110%.

I don't think Ann getting best photo 6 times was done to get the girls against her, but to convince the audience Tyra had found a supermodel star

I agree! This season was all about Italian Vogue and the new judge's perspective on fashion. It was 100% set up to appear like they picked a supermodel off the street. Every time they saw Ann's photos, they would yell "ahh, Italian Vogue!" It was so obvious watching the season as a whole.
She was also the tallest contestant ever on ANTM
Her photos were super star quality without trying.
I don't think they were ready to sabotage her at first and just used her to hurt everyone else.
I mean also like the fact that she didn't have to try hurt her because she didn't get good coaching when she actually needed it. (Id bet she had better photos in the walking ones)
I agree... and Ann kinda of looks like the Australian next top model who became uber famous all over Europe.
Giving a model a pair of stilettos that are at least a size too small is textbook definition of setting a model up for failure.

And sometimes these things do happen. You get a booking in fashion week only hrs prior to the show. You bring your own stilettos for rehearsals. During the fitting, alterations are made to fit your body and the designer has selected their own pair of stilettos. You try on the shoes and they're too small. You have already been paid for as far as the designer is concerned. So you just deal with it. The designer is not going to get mad if you have trouble walking. Just show off the garment as best as you can. That's what you're here for. The rest is the responsibility of the client. So it is good training to teach aspiring models that when this happens you just roll with it.
@@GullibleTarget you're right, these things do happen. the problem here is that this wasn't meant to be training, and if it was, they would have made it part of the challenge and given every girl unfitting shoes. but they only did that to one model in order to set her up to do worse than the others. and then after the fact, they didn't have good faith in the model given that she was in pain, they told her to suck it up
@@heyguysits-nicoleBritney have Daria explain this to you. By this point in the show they've literally established many times this is "model boot camp", "Olympics training" for the "real world of modeling" or whatever bs schpeel. So no, this literally is training. The wardrobe stylist was awesome.

The stylist did Liz dirty. WTF is that style? One girl was dressed like she was at cocktail party, the other was "yeah I was at the grocery store and I just joined for a photo".

Don’t kill the messenger. The stylist comes up with the ideas based on the brief they’re given. But it’s Tyra and her crew who approve them. They knew those shoes were too small.
Model: This hurts bad/is inuring me.
ANTM: You gotta suck it up in this business and just make it work or you're out.
Model: faints/has health problem/etc due to ridiculous photo shoot demands.
ANTM: You have to communicate when your body can't handle something.
It's their responsibility to look after themselves. 😅 or am I missing something? Are they being forced to sign up for this?

She was the girl who tried to unalive herself before the show, who allegedly "upset" a judge the week before and had "tunnel vision and would do anything to win" leading to the pool moment where she refused to speak up or listen to her own body. But hey. Since when does context matter when we have feelings to be -outraged- AMUSED with?

Sounds like you're the one here with strong feelings about this, seems you're reading your own passion for the show & situations into my words. I don't know anything about any of the models' backgrounds or mental health. I was merely making a half-hearted observation on a show I watched semi-regularly because I have an interest in photography. Any 'feelings' & 'outrage' here came from your own imagination, I can assure you.

When I was younger I was rooting for Ann all the way through. Now that I'm older, I realize that they were just playing on her insecurity for the "underdog comes out on top" reality tv narrative. No doubt that Ann had some bomb photos and is a sweet girl, but she just was not cut out to be a professional model. If the show really wanted to have some credibility they should have let Jane win; after all, she was the only girl this cycle who managed to book Vogue Italia on her own after the show.
Ann ended up not doing too much after this and it makes me so angry because this ruined her.
She could have been an international model. If she had been found by an agency instead 😩 such is the fate of antm
That's interesting. I have nothing against Ann (or even Chelsea who made it to the top 2) but Jane was actually my favorite. She did have more financial privilege though so even then, I knew she wouldn't win. I had hoped she would do well after and I am glad to hear she did!
As for Ann, she deserved better but I hope she is happy now (I saw somewhere she's doing animation now..Not sure if it's true but if she is, god for her!)
I was rooting for Jane and Kayla as my Top 2 when this aired. Especially since Jane is from my home state. We didn't get another Marylander get further until C22.

Shoes that are too small can actually do permanent damage. I wore stiletto shoes that were a size too small to a wedding, and now have permanent nerve damage in my feet. The pain continues to haunt me for years.
I feel bad for Kayla here. Those shoes were CLEARLY not her size yet they expect her to feel comfortable modeling with them ?And not to complain? So messed up.
I agree with this “Setting Ann Up” narrative. It’s funny how they keep complimenting her photo as if it’s the best when we all know Kendall/Jane/Chelsey should have gotten best photo.

The male models are so unnecessary. They have this gorgeous girls and renown people work on this and all they can come up with is "let the dude have two girls to be his side decoration". Wow.
If you watch the whole season, the only purpose of excessively using male models was to trigger certain girls...
I think it was because they wanted to test if guys would work in the dynamic of the show, 2 years later they finally included guys in the contest.
I agree. It would make more sense if the models were portraying two casually high fashion friends just walking by having fun not really realising that they're the "it girls", something like that.
I don't understand why they build the most commercial set imaginable and make the girls smile and shop and then say it's not high fashion lol

The shoe size bit cracks me up every time I see it. There will have been other models or even other people on set with the same shoe size as her but they MADE her wear shoes that were a size too small... makes no sense unless they were sabotaging her for the cameras
They set Kayla up over n over again. She was fierce too. Honestly, all these girls were fabulous.
This season had a great cast of girls. All stunning! I still think of Kayla's fallen angel shoot!
Tyra reminds me of the adults who not only made excuses for but thanked their parents for the abuse they endured as children, to say not only was it okay but necessary to make them into who they are today. Imagine who they would’ve been had they not been beat and verbally and psychologically destroyed by their parents? Probably happier, better adjusted people not endorsing child abuse.
I know two different people like that. I am like how do you still have a relationship with your parents. One got her money stolen from her from her dad.
Yes! Tyra definitely comes from an era where being harmed and surviving from it is this weird badge of honor. So, she then expects the models endure that same trauma and be silent about. She's not creating a space where the contestants can be transparent about their woes without her retorting from a place of trauma. I always try to have empathy for her because I know there are stories and experiences that she has had as a 17, 18, 19 year old black girl in Europe that she will never tell us about. Especially in an industry that was just truly by that time platforming black women in a way they hadn't before. But, when you have young impressionable girls in your care you have to be responsible and tactful. That she was not. Sorry for the rant! 😅

I find it hard to believe that they found shoes that fit every girl except Kayla when a lot of these girls have similar heights/proportions. I wouldn’t be surprised if they gave every girl a size 9 or 10 shoe and then just found a size 7 for Kayla and told her there were no other options

It was shaping up to be a slow episode, I guess. They had to create drama somewhere and the shoes did the trick.
I'm a 10 but occasionally have to go down to a 9 or up to an 11 depending on the brand. Could be one of those situations
I am not a fan of tyra, but i do think all the contestants would do so much better if she were actually coaching them every episode, idk if they got classes we dont see off air, but really think they all do so much better when she is showing and explaining.
What's crazy is season after season! They take a bunch of girls who have never modeled before and expect them to photograph like professional models. Some girls actually do. Like Ann. But, the rest of them actually need and deserve guidance. Maybe from a supermodel that hosts the show! 😅 You can't tell an inexperienced to be " Fierce " and expect her to know what that or what that looks like.
Jane is such a good model. I feel like she did the best in this photo shoot. Her and Chris! Also, I agree, Chris looks stunning in pink.

Chris looked so amazing! Her close up shot was my favorite! She rocked that photoshoot! Them saying it looked like Teen Vogue is 2 things for me. One that means she's a great model. Two, that's the styling. Talk to Lori if you don't like it.

I was given size 7 Docs to model, I'm a 8.5, the Docs scraped my foot halfway through the whole shoot so they gave me a bandaid and slides to finish in and apologized for injuring me.... Like in the real world, they take care of you, what is wrong with these people?
The piss poor cropping (or lack thereof in some cases) on those group shots KILLED ME.
From an amazing photographer - you know there had to be MUCH better group photos than those crappy, cutting room floor pieces they chose (as always). I wonder what he thought of the photos that were chosen, now that I think of it?!

To be fair, it's not unusual for models to be forced to walk in the wrong sized shoes, especially in the chaotic background to major runway shows - however I would expect more discipline and organisation in a successful TV series.. Wait! That's ANTM we're dealing with..

To make things worse with the shoes not fitting, they are ON RODEO DRIVE. You know the most famous street in fashion. If you really showed up with shoes the wrong size, you ABSOLUTELY can go buy something in the right size, ON THAT STREET
2 (of the) things I noticed in this episode:
* During judging with the famous photographer in the same room, Tyra was on her best behavior. Not as much degrading comments, and very helpful advice to the girls (note: at time of typing this, I haven't watched the end yet)
* Whoever did the photo editing for this shoot must have been given the photos last minute and had to do an emergency turn-around. Either that or a rookie intern cropped those images without any kind of supervision or training, cause YIKES!
The judges, especially Tyra are always more professional when they bring in people they really esteem to panel. And the photo shoots are a lot less chaotic and messy when Tyra or another working model are involved. It shows that the show can still be entertaining without being so toxic.
Jane was so robbed on this shoot. She definitely only lost FCO cause they were all-in on the Ann storyline 😭

I have a friend who is a set nurse in the entertainment industry. Every show by law has to have one. So that woman looking at Kayla's feet was probably the nurse which means Kayla was legitimately injured by those shoes.
They did Liz dirty with that styling. They put her in the most casual outfit, with a popped collar that completely covering her neck…all the other girls are actually styled nicely. And I wanted to try so hard to give the show the benefit of the doubt and be like “Well maybe she prefers to dress more masculine/ casual”…..Nope! She walks out to the judges in a gorgeous dress and heels! I wish she wore that during the shoot rather than whatever they “styled” her with

Kacey got no direction and Jane or whatever her name is got direction from Tyra right before her pictures. That's not fair at all.

I love only one thing about Tyra and that's how she directs the models, I love that she takes time to demonstrate because, for me, is easier to learn something if given an example or be shown how to do it (sorry for my bad English, it's not my first language but I hope that what I wrote it's clear enough). I would also like to say that, in my opinion, Jane should have won best photo, I absolutely love her look and her pose.
I literally remember thinking when this aired that it looked like an express shoot and thought that same thing now!😂 so disappointing

Ann and Chelsea had a color symmetry too, yellow/red, red/yellow that's really attractive
They literally put these girls in pain, physical and emotional pain on purpose. Told them complaining could mean going home, but when girls actually got sick or injured they said “you need to let us know!”
They really abused Kayla on this show, and on the all star show as well. They made her deal with trauma, physical pain, homophobia. In an actual professional setting people would be fired for treating her that way.
I was actually _really_ relieved when I watched Kacey's elimination for the first time back when S15 aired because post-ANTM she doubled down on her transphobic treatment towards Isis King, a S11 girl (Kacey first auditioned for S11 but was only cast on 15; she tried sending another audition tape for 22 but she wasn't shortlisted for that season)
That’s one of the reasons Kacey is so disliked. While Sha Raun and Hannah apologized in later years for they treatment to Isis, girls like Kacey and Clark didn’t apologize.
Yeah me too when I was younger I didn’t like her for that but now that I’m older she deserved a second chance and how they did her was wrong
The models can't win on this show. How many times have we had women be hurt due to a photoshoot, to the point of hospitalization, and then get yelled at for "not knowing their limits" and "Not speaking up for themselves" and then you get this bullshit where someone is being actively hurt by the photoshoot, and is in a lot of pain, and then they get this BS at the judging, where they should have just dealt with the pain, and kept it to themselves. Like, WTF!?
This was the high fashion season and Ann was the best high fashion model so .. She won in the end .. Congratz to Ann
If we compare Ann with Jourdan in cycle 21 who are in tie with Ann of most best photos , Ann´s photos are better then Jourdan ..
I actually agree. Jourdan’s photos are great. But her photos reminds me of what we seen on a daily basis in a fashion magazine. Ann’s photos gave more dimension and it makes me believe these were photos from a European magazine or something.

Yes! And he was so funny! It's such a flex to have a man who has been so influential in the fashion industry since the 70s. Fun Fact: Andre never wanted to leave Top Model! In fact he loved being on the show. He was replaced by Kelly Cutrone. Someone who won't be as influential as Andre in 10 lifetimes.

Tyra actually had lunch with Anna Wintour at her office and had to ask Anna for her blessing so that Andre could be on the show!

I like Ann, but it’s also not fair that she was the only one that got sneakers to work in, especially for the jumping shot. Kendall had wedges, but everyone else had to wear heels.
Tyra is that boss who had a hard time when she started so everyone else should have to go through a hard time starting out.

Season 15 was actually the first season that felt like a serious modeling competition. Like first judging and they literally had Diane von Furstenberg as the guest judge. And the Magazine cover was Italian Vogue? I mean come on. 😅

Corporations do this kind of thing too, in the workforce - setting some people up for success and others for failure based on who they like and don't like.
I think they gave Ann sneakers to level her height with Chelsea's. So it will be more symmetrical. There. I said it.

ann's solo photo looks straight out of a disney tv show 😭 the styling and just the post felt like disney to me. it's not bad. ann isn't a bad model but her consistently getting best picture so many times in a row shouldn't be happening. i feel bad saying that but ack every model did so well i think anyone could have had best picture honestly.
They measure this show in “cycles” which is appropriate since that’s also how you measure. Abuse.

I remember watching this season and really rooting for Ann but now that I'm older I definitely think they were trying to set her up and create some drama between the girls. However, if I remember correctly, that didn't work. Ann was very sweet, shy and timid and never became egotistical over getting best picture every week so other girls never turned on her
They never turned on her because it was so blindingly obvious anns wins were set up by production, so why get mad about it?
32:04 - It has been driving me crazy for years but if you actually go back to season 2 when Nigel was still new, he actually basically said that if you get that one shot, it's all that matters. The others gave him so much sh*t for it. I'm not siding with Nigel but I always found it interesting that he said in season 2 and then he changed his tune.
I don't know if it's generally just his opinion changing or if he was told to stick to that narrative to make it harder on the models but I just wanted to mention it.

Ann's photo wasn't bad by any means, but it certainly wasn't meant to be FCO. Though I do think they like to praise on Ann a lot since she's had a soft and awkward personality since this season started.
P.S. it was also very weird how the judges were so interested with Ann's thin waist at auditions, just saying
So interesting in her waist yet sent Annamaria home for being too thin. The inconsistency!

I did a runway show in Sweden once and they sized up our shoes just in case. Better they're a little too big than too small imo.

I think you 100% hit the nail on the head about Ann. I remember watching this cycle and feeling how rigged it was. It was the last season of this show I could bear to watch when I was younger because of it.

Everyone did so much better in those headshots that they used for call outs. Ann did a great job in almost every shoot except for that gender swap famous designer one and the energy drink commercial. I do concede that Ann fit the look of the season being Italian Vogue. I think I resonated with her growing up as the awkwardly tall girl.

I love how they were complimenting Chris left and right during the photo shoot, and then in judging they all found problems with her pictures. Including the photographer and Tyra who were at the photo shoot showering her with praise.
One thing that I remember about this season was that Kayla complained at every shoot.
You can say whatever you want but Ann was the best.
