IT DOES CHANGE YOUR FACE SHAPE! Before I had braces, I had a puffy square face with puffy cheeks. Which they told me was from chronic teeth griding and a misaligned bite. About 6 months in my jaw line became thin and sharp and my cheek bones became very prominent and sharp! So instead of a puffy round face i have a small and angler face! It really built my self esteem.
@@godlikeexcellence1201 that’s up to the orthodontist, braces work by taking advantage of a neuro-chemical process that is used to protect your jawbone while you’re chewing. The braces are applying pressure, that pressure releases osteoclasts which dissolve jawbone around the teeth; which allow the teeth to move. Then osteoblasts add bone back to these spaces rebuilding the jawbone. The protection part is so you don’t bite down too hard on something.
Here been wearinh braces for almost 3 years and let me tell u. IT DOES CHANGE UR FACE especially lower part and side profile. My face has aways looked puffy even if i'm skinny, but as soon as my overbite got fixed i got cheekbones and my jaw and chin are more defined. Very happy with the results and also i had no teeth extractions
Your comment made my day thankyou ❤,even i have an over bite! Will our chin get longer and jaws get wider after correction of deep bite/over bite I'm extracting my arch too!!
@@aves7418 Yes. My side profile looks better and I can close my mouth properly now (apparently closing my mouth fully was harder before due to my overbite, but I never really noticed it until the orthodontist pointed it out).
@@Wildwildmint oh :)) THEN THATS GREAT! that was the only problem i had with getting braces on cause i very much like my current face and i saw some comments saying their face got longer and narrower which wouldnt suit me at all cause i dont really have much fat in my cheeks and face but yes my side profile wud definetely look better with my mild overbite getting fixed :)) how long is your treatment going for?
Braces absolutely change your face. Before I had braces, I was dealing with semi-puckered lips and an underbite. After my first few months of wearing braces, my parents commented that my face has been shaped differently than before. I was stunned when I looked at myself in the mirror.
I had to get two teeth extracted on the bottom before I could get braces put on. 4 years later after braces you can definitely notice a difference. Getting your teeth aligned has more benefits than I even knew before I decided to get braces. I thought they just straightened your teeth I didn't realize how it really does change your jawline/profile. If you can afford braces and you need them don't wait any longer call an ortho and set up an appointment you won't regret it.
I had a very slight underbite, not noticable unless I show it. I did have 2 teeth extractions and got my braces at 22-24. It has made my square jaw a bit less wide, and bottom lip less pouty. Altogether, more balanced and aesthetically pleasing to before.
I don’t know if you necessarily needed the extractions but I’m glad your happy with your results. I’m certain your jaw was skimmed out because the muscles were probably overworked due to the underbite. I bet eating is a lot easier too now!
@@sady1139 it definitely was necessary in order to adjust the underbite. If it was any worse, surgery would’ve been necessary to literally saw away a part of my jaw and push it back.
@@a.jpurple6515 ahh, sorry, I didn’t read properly, you had lower extractions! Yes, lower extractions depending on the person can help balance out the face bad is usually beneficial, it’s the extractions of upper that is best to avoid due to the negative effects on the face, when possible it’s best to try to expand the upper jaw to make the teeth fit, and then if it doesn’t help enough then extract. I’ve read so many horror stories of people having 4 teeth extracted from their upper jaws and it totally messing with their facial proportions and Ben breathing!
I had a mild underbite and severe crowding!! I had to undergo tooth extraction for three teeth, one top and two bottom, as well as RPE. I was constantly getting different elastic patterns and my braces are FINALLY coming off soon but it has drastically changed my face. For the better ofc. My cheeks are slimmer, jawline, cheekbones, and chin are more prominent, plus my lips look plumper?? The underbite really made my top lip disappear. Overall, super happy and grateful with the results and my braces aren’t even off yet!!
Hey that’s awesome to hear! If you don’t mind me asking how old were you when you got braces? I’m in my early 20s and highly considering getting braces myself
Oo your cheeks got slimmer after braces? I’m really insecure about my chubby cheeks, so I’ll be happy if braces would fix that too as well (as well as how my lips may look uneven cause some of my crooked teeth jut out)
Yes, it definitely changes the face shape. I had an overbite, and after 4 teeth extractions and braces, my profile and jawline has become sharper and cheeks more hollow. I’m very happy with the changes to my face.
Wow. This video is exactly what I needed to understandexactly what my teeth had become before my braces. I have a slight overbite and a crossbite. My crossbite is what bothered me the most. I thought I'd need surgery because I thought the issue was my jaw. My teeth hand begun to crowd as I got older. I'm almost 50. At 22, I had removed two lower molars that were perfectly fine, except the nerves under them would cause me pain. I also still had all my wisdom teeth. My smile used to be wide in my youth but it got narrower due to my crowding. My crossbite made it difficult to chew correctly. I found myself trying to move my jaw to the side to compensate and this made me bite my cheeks sometimes. I'm amazed at how my entire mouth area changes right before my eyes. I take pictures constantly. I've had them for a few months and my smile is already so different. I'm so excited to see the end result!
@@augusto7681 Yes, my smile is wider now. My lower teeth are moving forward too. When I used to smile, my teeth went across close to my cheeks. But once crowded, there was a bigger space between my cheeks and my smile. I could see towards the back of my mouth. My teeth were getting bunched up. I am at the part when the teeth move and there are slight gaps between them. No regrets.
I have same problem slight over/cross bite with crooked bottom teeth with asymmetrical face just now looking into braces to help thank you & others for the honesty testimony!🙌🏾❤️
I'm 14 and a mouth breather, i also have a crossbite and im one of those who can't rest their mouth with their lips closed (I started going to speech therapy which helped me a lot with that) and i can tell that there is a slightly difference in my face. She has been teaching me things, because i don't have braces yet! i forgot to mention, I started going to st to fix my bad habits, the ones i mentioned before, and she's been teaching me not only to have a good posture or closing my mouth while resting, but how to eat, drink, and talk properly. (by eat properly i don't mean what to eat, but HOW) I'm going to get braces in february, and i'll still go to st, she told me that is really important to fix those habits while i can, because if not, when i take off my braces, my teeth will go back to the position they were, so it would be lots of money to the trash. I really recommend you guys who read this to go to speech therapy, it is really helpful. PT: sorry for the bad english, my first language isn't english
Do Mewing. I had always wondered everytime I look at my grandparents photos how they have straight teeth and never in their life they've gotten braces, until I found out they've been mewing their whole existence. Mewing, named after the British orthodontist Dr. Mike Mew, is a short term for Myofunctional Therapy. Basically it's the practice of having a good tongue posture and a body posture, and overtime it expands the upper jaw (maxilla) thus giving more room for your teeth to be straight and also helps you look more attractive (I guess because we're wired to healthy faces), and it also prevent sleep apnea. Luckily, I have a habit of chewing gum when I was a kid thus making my jaw muscles working, and probably the reason why my tongue rests on my pallete without even having to think about it or naturally, and my teeth are straight and never in my life I've gotten braces as well (nor unnecessary extractions) . Also this mewing thing isn't magic, it takes time. Source: Mike Mew (Orthotropics)
@@jijinxx Yes, i'm also doing that! i'm improving my posture by doing exercises, and the tongue thing, also having my mouth closed when doing nothing. I'm not a person who eats a lot of gum, but every time I can I buy chewing gum, and I chew it as long as I can. I also do it with meats and I practice as my speech pathologist told me. I can tell that it's getting better, the reason that it was so hard for me to have my mouth closed (before going to st) was bc my upper lip couldn't join the other(?? because of my teeths, but now i can do it easily, so i'm really happy :)
I unconsciously become mouth breather when i fall asleep and as a result, i had an overbite. I have recently put braces on but i still think i breathe from my mouth when i fall asleep, what shall i do?
I had my braces removed and luckily I never had my wisdom teeth removed. I had a slight overbite but it corrected it which made my lower third become SLIGHTLY longer but I prefer how it looks now. Other things that changed were my lip and chin asymmetry is vastly different now in a good way
I don't really understand why do they have to extract a tooth or two. My teeth are straight and never in my life I've gotten my teeth extracted(nor Ive gotten braces)
@@jijinxx it usually has something to do with your mouth apparently not having enough space. Some of my friends had their wisdom teeth removed because they said the teeth would erupt and hurt the Molars because of no space.
Did u had extractions were ur upper lips protude before? Pls answer i dont know if i need jaw surgery or just extractions i have class 2 overbite as well which make my chin and jaw resseced looking
@@aac2289 my overbite wasn’t severe so braces was enough for me. My top lip in particular was protruding even with a slight overbite. Lastly I didn’t get any extractions because my mouth had space and my teeth didn’t have cavities. If you have extreme TMJ or an overly extreme overbite than braces itself won’t cut it, I would do a jaw surgery
I had braces for almost 2 years now, and honestly it changed my lips so much but in a good way. I had very thin lips before I got braces but my lips just got 10x fuller and bigger. I mean I’m quite happy because I always dreamed of having full or big lips. So I’m quite happy with this change in me!😊

I’ve had braces for a about two and a half years and I just had double jaw surgery about 4 months ago. I had an underbite so I definitely look different but I’m so happy with the results.
How did the surgery go? My 14 year old has an overbite and orthodontist have recommended surgery but I am very scared. Are they any risks involved. What was recovery period like?
@@robloxroyalehigh2016 my surgery went very well, it takes a few months to get used to your new bite. Liquid diet causes weight loss and fatigue. You could possibly relapse but that’s pretty rare. I personally think its 100% worth it, I couldn’t be happier.

At 33 I've had braces on now for 3 months, the changes are still mild as they are mostly making room for a large fang that needs reigning in. I got braces because my jaw was severely (relative to me) misaligned and causing my teeth to drift and my jaw to pop and lock. This was starting to cause pain, cartilage damage, headaches and mental distress. So far the treatment has been excellent for my initial symptoms and now it's an aesthetic game. Actually paying attention to how crooked and warped my teeth had become over time and having it highlighted by the shape of the wires, along with the photos I've been taking regularly really opened my eyes and I couldn't be more greatful that this bizarre process is even an option to me. The bottoms went on today and during the install all I could think was that this is the strangest thing to actually elect to have somebody do to you for money 😅 can't wait to see my arches smooth out and eventually come off, I like my face but with a ten thousand dollar smile I reckon I'll be invincible haha.
i have mine put for 11 days already. on both jaws in one time. no pain whatsoever. just my teeth were numb. now i can feel them.. indeed if you have money this is one of the best investments in braces or invisiglin. i have a crossbite. later i'll need to put an implant. and corrections on teeth with esthetic fillings.
The description of your experience is giving me a good push to go on with this. I am 30 and considering braces, but my teeth are too crowded so four of them need to come out. I am very concerned how painful this process will be and how much it hurts after getting the braces. Please let me know if it's too painful to relax and sleep although my current teeth makes it hard enough anyways. I can't stop thinking about the pain.
I'm not going to lie and say mine haven't hurt quite a lot at certain points but I've had a reduction in headaches, pain and especially stress in general. I'd trade positive change pain over constant fear my teeth were only getting worse and major bite discomfort any day. I've had a few weeks I just wanted them off but 🤷🏼♂️ Once they are on they aren't coming off early 😂 if you are already in pain and have been told braces are the solution I recommend it. Especially if you can get an interest free loan for the money or something, Australia provided this for me which really helped with the cost.
Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately in Bangladesh the doctors aren’t as helpful when it comes to discussing the problem and finding a solution that would help the individual. My problem is TMJ which may be due to my overbite, now, the doctor says after braces maybe TMJ may go away or it may not. But my misaligned jaw is permanent. Down here people mainly go with braces for aesthetic purposes. The problem is I am rather in love with my crooked teeth so the fact that the doctor can't give me a straight answer makes me anxious. I found your comment helpful since it's a direct personal experience of pain relief.
A big YES!! Braces actually do changes the face shape. I had problem with overbite. I had puffy cheeks and double chin before my braces. I tried a lot of ways to get rid of my double chin but nothing ever worked until I got my braces. Now I got more sharp structure of my face, my puffy cheeks are no much more like before. And my double chin also vanished too. ☺️
Guys I’m scared I’m getting my braces and I’m 17 rn , I’ve been insecure about this my whole life because my jaw makes me look so ugly and I don’t like the way I look in photos , my teeth also stop me from being able to sleep with my mouth closed so I’m hoping after the braces my jaw will change I’ll come back in 3 years to tell you all how it went!!!!
I'm in my early 30s and I have over jet so I got my braces 7 months ago with two upper teeth extracted. Today the difference is far beyond my imagination. My face look a bit long which makes me look cute and my teeth is really moving fast . Two things I really love on my new look is my long face , my lips and my teeth, got lot of compliments from people
This is definitely why getting orthodontic care as a child is best, as the orthodontist still has your jaw growth to deal with. I had orthodontic care as an adult, which included having my lower jaw brought surgically forward. I had my mouth wired shut for over six weeks. This was not fun. Then there's insurance concerns. Surgery isn't cheap and insurance companies will try to deny coverage.
I had my premolars extracted to match my upper jaw to my lower underdeveloped jaw. This caused a sunken in profile and 20 years later I have a coverbite meaning an extreme deep bite. My orthodontist now wants me to skip orthognatic surgery but the surgeon is sure it will improve my bite. Let’s see who wins😅
@@MohsinaMystry Dont get healthy teeth extracted! It will make your profile look worse and make your Jaws smaller which can lead to breathing problems and chronic head and neck pain, it's a terrible thing that doctors still extract healthy teeth, look for a holistic orthodontist instead, wishing you all the best

Yes i had a mild overbite which needed correcting as i wanted composite bonding done it does pull my jaw slightly forward and has improved my aesthetic appearance and confident. The composite bonding also helps and i now have my teeth the best they can potentially be without jaw surgery of course.
@Fafa I’m pretty sure it depends on what your case is, I don’t really know how to explain how the change in my face happened all I know is that my braces did affect the shape of my face 😅
Braces changed my face but i had them when i was 15, and removed them when i was 18. And my face looks different now when i am 21 but i dont know if i just had a glow up or if it was actually the braces lmao. I look so much better now (i mean my face shape).
I'm 51 with braces. The old lady with all the kids in the Ortho office. I had to fix the crowding or I'd loose teeth. Just do it young. Most doctors offices offer payment plans. Some don't check credit.
I couldnt afford it either but with an easy payment plan it was manageable over 3 years..just ask as most places will offer an affordable payment plan.
if you have a minor flaw with your smile don't do braces it's a waste of money and time and it's hard to live with braces but if your teeth are fucked up like me i really recommend spending whatever you got on it and as fast as possible it really improved the way i smile and for the face shape changes i haven't noticed a drastic change in fact it made it look slightly better in my case maybe because my doctor is a good one, I'm half way through my braces journey and I'm very happy with the results
are two pre-molar extractions better than four or more? My dentist said there's a 50/50 chance that I might have to get extractions for my crowded teeth and severe overbite. I'm just wondering which one is better because most of the comments here are talking about extractions and how they changed faces. Edit: Thank you to whoever replied. You have expanded my knowledge on this topic. I’m really against getting my perfectly healthy teeth taken out because its almost like getting a perfectly healthy organ taken out but I just don’t know if my orthodontist is going to listen. I will insist on not having them taken out. Edit 2: I managed to get my orthodontist to not pull any teeth out. My dad and I firmly told him we didn’t want any extractions. He agreed but told me it wouldn’t fix my bite if I didn’t get extractions. To be honest, my bite doesn’t bother me so i’m alright with it. My orthodontist is, however, pushing my top teeth up and bottom teeth down by placing the wire above or below my bracket to lessen the overbite. I guess it’s making a difference, but my teeth do move back to their original place slightly before they put the wire back onto the bracket and not above or below.
Depends on how crowded your teeth are. I had 4 teeth removed because my crowding was pretty bad, and now my teeth look normal. Some people might even get 3 removed, or more than 4
It's hard to tell what would work best for you online, so this is not meant to be medical advice. But do your research and/or ask the orthodontist if there are any risks/ consequences of getting any extractions. This vid and the comments may be misleading. Extractions may ruin your face or give you bad TMJ. If you google it, there are cases of recessed faces and other bad outcomes resulting from extractions and braces.
As someone who regrets having healthy teeth extracted and then followed by retraction by an Orthodontist, I'd suggest looking for a dentist who provides palate expansion. My lower face was retracted by teeth extraction and retraction. The bottom half of my face was in front of my forehead and now my lower face is behind my forehead. I look incredibly recessed. It has affected my health and the structure of my body terribly. You were born with 32 adult teeth for a reason, likewise you were born with 10 fingers and 10 toes. You can search online for an xray image of a babies skull to see the 20 milk/baby teeth and 32 adult teeth all present in the skull. Pulling healthy teeth to retract the remaining is not working with human nature. Please respect and look after your body, I really wish I had for my own.
Please don't get healthy teeth extracted, it could be detrimental for your over all health. Look for a holistic orthodontist to EXPAND your palat Not retract! You also maybe want to look up Dr Mike Mew he explaines everything very well and gets amazing results with is way of treatment which never involves extracting healthy teeth!
@@plane7551 I mentioned a palate expander but my orthodontist said I don’t need one of those. He gave no reason as to why I don’t need that. No other options just tooth extraction. After getting braces my face change, I think it got a little bit longer, maybe that was du to age because I got them when I was 14, but the most notorious change was my jawline, it got so much slimmer and lost angularity, maybe it was due to the fact that braces were painful and I really didn’t chew correctly, know I had been doing mewing for 6 months and my face is returning to normal.
Your jawline got slimmer and lost angularity as in gonial angle(the angle your jaw makes coming down from your ears towards your mouth) became less???? Or the front of your jaw beneath your mouth lost its angularity/shape?????
I had a deep bite, my face was kind of short and round. Now my face changed, it got a little longer and slimmer and I love it!😊 I got my braces 1 year and 3 months ago and will get them off next month
@@angelenaa If they've already done a deep cleaning, then a simple routine cleaning won't hurt. Maybe slightly uncomfortable/sore but shouldn't be painful imo. They'll numb you for your fillings. I’m 25 and started my ortho journey about 2 years ago. First of all, they expanded my maxilla with NO extraction, then put on braces on the upper arch and finally on the lower, to match the maxilla. I had braces twice in my life. 1st one when I was 14. I had it for 3 years. It really changed my face. My jaw was slimmer and i hated that look. But the doctor didn't do a good job. He left some space between my teeth without intervention. And later I had to pay for it. After 6 years, again my teeth lost their alignment. But by that time my cheeks had gotten fuller with a better jawline. Now again I have a put braces and my cheeks and jaw looks slimmer now. But whatever happens I just want the doctor to properly allign my teeth this time.
What does slimmer jawline mean? Do you mean it lost its sharpness or the gonial angle or the angularity near the mouth or something else? Also cheeks slimmer means lost it plumpness right????
If your jawline became slimmer with braces and returned to normal after, it appear you just lost some muscle in the face during treatment, should return to normal again the second time around.
@@frankpowell2511 when you smile and see the upper teeth only , having a double chin aka short mandible (a receding chin can be mistaken for a short mandible) , smile looks weird because the wrong facial muscles are being used for example nose flares and upper face muscles stretch alot instead of lower face because the mandible is too far behind , a big overbite is called Overjet . The effects of braces for me seem to be the opposite of a lot of people in the comments 😭 I had them for 18 months and as soon as I got bands, I ended up getting an asymmetrical jaw and after waring them normally, I eventually got tmj and it makes my mouth and face look weird on one side. Also made my top lip really thin and bottom lip looks bigger but weird. My jawline is more defined on the bright side but I’m still kind of sad. I got them off 2 years ago

Anyway dont extract(pull out) your teeth. If you extract ,than it will be about 2 cm smaller whole teeth structure, than how it should be. Which will make about 2cm smaller lips for sure. Visit at least 10 orthodontics before pulling out your teeth.
Retraction/extraction orthodontics is barbaric and not necessary. Yes, braces change your face. Video does not mention reduction in profile palate/nasal floor

Correcting a deep bite can lead to several positive changes in facial aesthetics. and the specific changes can vary depending on the individual's unique facial structure and the severity of the deep bite. I'm not an expert but I got this info from Kriss ai..
I only had braces on my top teeth because I couldn’t afford a full set and the orthodontist said that I didn’t really need both anyway since my teeth were only crooked on the upper jaw. Now that they’re off, I kind of dislike my smile still but not as much as before. I love the way my teeth looks but my face looks weird when I smile. Is there any way to change that?
Untill i wear the braces it change my face and i was happy once after removing braces about 1 year my jaw looks horrible it makes my overbite worst than ever so i start researching internet then i found out mewing is best for this bcoz the problem for my overbite is not present congenitaly it develops over the year of my bad tounge posture no matter i wear braces if my tounge posture is not correct then useless after removing bracess automatically teeth alignment start changes according to the tounge shape.
What to do if I have crowded and protruding teeth? My only treatment is extractions and braces. I already have a slim face so this talk about face shape change is terrifying.
Do you think Invisalign could change the look of your face? I have been in treatment for 4 years now. Was supposed to be 18 months Max, but she went overboard with widening my smile too much and has been trying to reverse her work for the last two years now. (Not sure why taking so long.) I feel that it has definitely changed my appearance , especially with lower face widening, more square vs oval face shape, top lip and above lip flattening, as well as more sagging and wrinkling under the lip and sides of the mouth. She widened my smile (had a more narrow smile before) + Pushed top teeth back /flatter + Pushed bottom teeth back (so wouldn’t hit top teeth) My bite has been really off as well (No contact for last two year on left side), and I notice my right cheek seems larger than the left side, so maybe the chewing has something to do with it. My orthodontist is adamant however, that Invisalign “doesn’t affect soft tissue at all”. Would you agree or disagree with this statement?
Hello wanna put my opinion. I think, whatever the tools people use to treat the teeth, it indeed definitely changes the looks of the face, esp if there's big different before after. Idk the detail about your case, I assume if your doctor choose to widening your smile, you got overbite/your have crooked teeth but there's no extraction. But, usually doctor gonna ask the patient first whether they wanna got their teeth extracted or their gonna get their jaw to be widened (if there's an option, because there're many cases that the patients don't have an option - mostly conventional metal braces users). I'm just casual brace enthusiasts since I'm using it right now, not professional, CMIIW. And yes, that's my opinion, not a fact.
Doctor,is it possible to have an overbite from wearing braces?.....I wore braces for the purpose of overcrowded teeth and it has been 4 months since I wore it and now I am having a visible moderate overbite where I previously didn't have..Is this normal and reversible. Please answer me
Yes I can be reversed! Usually teeth are shaven down a bit on the sides to create more space to bring that flaring back in. Or molars can be pulled out to make more space to bring the flaring in and reverse the overbite look
@@solomonkiflu5118 okay so the flaring thing is actually very normal!! When you have crowded teeth often times when you get braces you will get an overbite and a bit of flare
My dentist recommended to extract 2 premolar teeth for my braces. I have an overbite with misaligned center teeth and one crooked teeth. Should i get my teeth extracted? I see a lot of people regretting extracting their teeth because they didnt like how their face shape turned out.
Is it normal that I have problems with closing my mouth because when I want to breath through my nose my chin hurts while closing my mouth. I had an extreme overbite but it has gotten much better now. My braces will be taken off in 8-10 months.
yup i got braces and rubberbands when i was 11-12 and it ltierally tilted my upper jaw and nose area the whole maxilla bone to the left and backwards which wrecked my facial profile and gave me tmd in both joints and breathing problems. BTW my maxilla was naturally in the correct position, the rubberbands caused a whole asymmetry in my skull within the maxilla.
My cheekbones appear more pronounced and my face seems longer since having them in in August 2022. What's that about 8 months or so? I believe my mouth was too small for my teeth so they were getting crammed as they grew resulting in my k9s sticking outwards and front of the rest of my teeth
I have severe misaligned tooth `on my right jaw which caused my face to appear asymmetric. After a series of adjustment it changed my jawline and face altogether
I just got braces put on a couple of days ago and am so scared that my front teeth will be slanted inwards or recede in order to close gaps between my molars and canines. My ortho said that I wouldn't notice any difference, but I don't know! I feel like he just thinks I'm being vein, but I feel like I'll have to get composite bonding afterwards. Do you have any thoughts about this?
My teeth are good. But have only little underbite. may be so my lower lip looks big and my voice word also are not clear, is it be cause of underbite? If i use braces can i change my chain and word clearity??
I'm 30 and I have minor overbite. I want to improve my smile by getting braces but there is no space between my teeth. I don't want to get teeth extraction, what should I do?
Do canine extractions change face shape? My upper canines are deeply impacted and I'm getting them extracted. My front teeth are very overcrowded and my ortho says my premolars will act as canines
My face shape is pretty decent, the only issue with my teeth is two of my top premolars grew directly behind the others (on the palate). This makes it basically impossible to brush the back sides of all 4 teeth, and has already caused a cavity. My dentist's idea is to extract two of the premolars and then push the ones behind with braces. This won't change anything about my facial structure, as the teeth that will be replacing the other ones aren't touching other teeth, so that means they're not required to keep any structure, right?
@@user-hf7kj9dp1f Well its sharper than ever, especially after practicing better posture the rear end of my jawline is now more foward and pronounced.. Plus hollow cheeks are mainly for when im super healthy and only drink water

Braces definitely change your face shape and it’s not always minor. Bone loss is pretty common so people end up with longer faces
do you look more beautiful after braces or it makes people even more ugly?
The bone is replaced by the osteoblasts
@@scottrichards4979 I have an asymmetrical jaw, will braces fix that?
@@godlikeexcellence1201 that’s up to the orthodontist, braces work by taking advantage of a neuro-chemical process that is used to protect your jawbone while you’re chewing. The braces are applying pressure, that pressure releases osteoclasts which dissolve jawbone around the teeth; which allow the teeth to move. Then osteoblasts add bone back to these spaces rebuilding the jawbone. The protection part is so you don’t bite down too hard on something.

Did you have an overbite or an underbite?
I had a very slight underbite, not noticable unless I show it. I did have 2 teeth extractions and got my braces at 22-24. It has made my square jaw a bit less wide, and bottom lip less pouty. Altogether, more balanced and aesthetically pleasing to before.
I don’t know if you necessarily needed the extractions but I’m glad your happy with your results. I’m certain your jaw was skimmed out because the muscles were probably overworked due to the underbite. I bet eating is a lot easier too now!
There's hope for me 😃
Braces definitely weren't the cause if you became better looking, that's just ageing.
How many months?
It brought your jaw forward?
You got back your wider smile ?
@@augusto7681 Yes, my smile is wider now. My lower teeth are moving forward too. When I used to smile, my teeth went across close to my cheeks. But once crowded, there was a bigger space between my cheeks and my smile. I could see towards the back of my mouth. My teeth were getting bunched up. I am at the part when the teeth move and there are slight gaps between them. No regrets.

(by eat properly i don't mean what to eat, but HOW)
I'm going to get braces in february, and i'll still go to st, she told me that is really important to fix those habits while i can, because if not, when i take off my braces, my teeth will go back to the position they were, so it would be lots of money to the trash.

I got mine Nov ‘22 at the age of 32! The changes are wild! The top wire looked like a train derailed on its track. Big changes already 9 months in :)
I had puffy cheeks and double chin before my braces. are two pre-molar extractions better than four or more?
Some people might even get 3 removed, or more than 4
It's hard to tell what would work best for you

Extractions may ruin your face or give you bad
TMJ. If you google it, there are cases of
recessed faces and other bad outcomes
resulting from extractions and braces.

@@angelenaa If they've already done a deep cleaning, then a simple routine cleaning won't hurt. Maybe slightly uncomfortable/sore but shouldn't be painful imo. They'll numb you for your fillings.
If your jawline became slimmer with braces and returned to normal after, it appear you just lost some muscle in the face during treatment, should return to normal again the second time around.
then u should go to an orthodontist rather than a dentist
You should get permanent aligners tight after extraction of braces
If you have a big problem with your teeth , if it's a big Overbite or an underbite get jaw surgery it will give you a much better result .
what is considered a big overbite?
@@frankpowell2511 when you smile and see the upper teeth only , having a double chin aka short mandible (a receding chin can be mistaken for a short mandible) , smile looks weird because the wrong facial muscles are being used for example nose flares and upper face muscles stretch alot instead of lower face because the mandible is too far behind , a big overbite is called Overjet . Cases where overbites don't need surgery is when the mandible and the upper jaw have even/proportionate length and the problem is only coming from the teeth alignement wich needs braces only. What did it do for your face?
What to do if I have crowded and protruding teeth? My only treatment is extractions and braces. I already have a slim face so this talk about face shape change is terrifying.
Do you think Invisalign could change the look of your face? I have been in treatment for 4 years now. Was supposed to be 18 months Max, but she went overboard with widening my smile too much and has been trying to reverse her work for the last two years now. (Not sure why taking so long.)
I feel that it has definitely changed my appearance , especially with lower face widening, more square vs oval face shape, top lip and above lip flattening, as well as more sagging and wrinkling under the lip and sides of the mouth.
She widened my smile (had a more narrow smile before)

Pushed top teeth back /flatter
+
Pushed bottom teeth back (so wouldn’t hit top teeth)
My bite has been really off as well (No contact for last two year on left side), and I notice my right cheek seems larger than the left side, so maybe the chewing has something to do with it.

Im obsessed with my braces its change my look completely it bring smile line on my face made my cheeks little chubby
i just turned 17 and noticed that my jaw is uneven and asymmetrical will braces help me fix that? i have a crossbite too
sometimes it can but sometimes with jaw surgery. talk to an orthodontist and jaw surgeon
I only have a tiny overbite problem and got 4 tooth extraction
Will it change my face badly ??
im in the same situation. there is slight change already in my face and reading these comments is making me more scared!!
@OptimisticMIND999, how are you know? We all share the same issue
I used to have hollow cheeks along side a above average jawline. After braces the only change was a slimmer jawline not making it look as full
Did your jawline become sharper or did it loose it's sharpness. And did your hollow cheeks remain hollow?
@@user-hf7kj9dp1f Well its sharper than ever, especially after practicing better posture the rear end of my jawline is now more foward and pronounced.. Plus hollow cheeks are mainly for when im super healthy and only drink water
Did u get ur wisdom teeth removed for braces
@@FleekHD no
@@easypete975 ok good ur lucky
Invisalign has changed my face fr. I used to have bunny teeth. It took 2 years and 2 extractions to fix things.
