    Joy it takes alot of time for you to do all that, thanks for sharing. I've been sewing for more years than I am willing to admit and did not know any of this. For years I found that Vogue patterns just fit me the best and they had more style. So now I know how to adjust a store bought. I graduated from UC Davis and took fashion design classes for electives and learned how to "drape" my garments for a perfect fit and bought a fantastic dress form (wolf) that is my size, so I can always depend on that fit. You are the best==thanks for all you teach us!

    I loved the idea of treating a ruined pattern as a sewing lesson. That is just what I am now going to do. I shall order the same pattern again and apply my lessons learned!

    I normally stick with baggy tunics or stretch since I just started sewing clothes again, so really pleased you did this video! I can be more adventurous now. Years ago, I made some lovely designer Vogue evening dresses, but, as you say, the patterns suit younger bodies! Must have only made curtains since my daughter’s Christening gown, 32 years ago! Anyway, I will be watching this one over again. Thank you, Joy! Kind regards from Penny in Liverpool 🇬🇧😊💕

    Joy, thank you for your blog. I did not listen to you but the people who made the pattern. I attempted to cut out a boat neck, dolman sleeve top. Well it was huge in the shoulders. It fell off mine. I am only 4 inches from side of my neck to shoulder tip. The pattern opening was 5 inches on that side. Should not sew in a hurry. I will listen next time. I am returning to sewing clothing after a 15 plus year hiatus. I won't be defeated yet.

    Amazing. Just found you. This is the second video I've watched of yours. I like the fitting info. I was just thinking about making a blouse with a ruffled sleeve and maybe a ruffle along the bottom. Not big but just to soften it from being straight. I'm a bit curvey so not sure how it would look. I was hoping the find a button down the front style but, maybe I could do it with this pattern. I'll go buy the pattern and see what it offers. I'm just getting back to sewing after years of not. This would be fun. Thanks for all your tips.

    • @Joy4650B
      @Joy4650B  Год назад +1

      I have only about 3 kinds of fabric in my entire stash. Knits and Cottons. I have ITY knits, Ponte knits, Quilting Cottons and a little Linen. I never use wool or silk. Expensive and I just don't use them. I'm sure they are great though. Wool itches me awful. Quilting cottons are the EASIEST to make blouses out of. I make pants with either Ponte knits or Kona cottons.
      Try going to fabricmartfabrics.com. They have sales every day, and they always show the fabric draped over a bench! VERY helpful. Also, they note under each fabric what you can make with it.

      I measured my arm around the armpit area -- as high up as you can go under your arm. Then you measure from that point up to your shoulder point. If it is higher than the same area on the pattern, you have to raise the sleeve cap.

    I just thought I would share my thoughts on using the word seamstress..... Mirriam Webster- A person whose occupation as a sewer. So, like a dentist, or teacher or nurse, it is an occupation. A seamstress does alterations, repairs and dressmaking.... A person who sews as a hobby is a sewist. This word gets thrown around and used and do not realize it is an occupation. Before I became a nurse I was a seamstress. I have done dressmaking and it is an art and I think that many who work at sewing understand the difference. :D Just my pet peeve.... that a sewist does not make a person a seamstress unless it is her/his profession/occupation .... I hope you don't mind my sharing... Blessings, Carole in PA

      I understand. I do hate the word "sewist" though.

      The dictionary says "seamstress" is "a woman who sews, especially one who makes a living sewing". I think it can be used both ways.

    I trace my original so I don’t mess up the original.
