Probably the best geometry nodes hair tutorial that I've seen! Could you please upload your custom node groups somewhere? I'm really bad at geo nodes, tried to follow your videos, but still cant make them work properly 🙏🙏🙏
Hello, and thank you very much. Initially i didn't want to upload the nodes so people have to mingle with geometry nodes themselves and get more comfortable. But i see your point, they are/can be very overwhelming. Most of the time i have no idea what I'm doing, ha. I'll upload them and add a link to the videos
do you have any videos or advice on how to edit premade hair meshes that use planes or hair cards and established textures? for example, i got into this whole process when playing Baldurs gate 3 and wanted to start modding hairs for the game. they use we have access to all the DDS files for texture, and the hairs are not attached to scalp mesh. its just free floating hair cards/planes. I havent been able to see any tutorials on how to edit these in such a way like "adding a plane to a preexisting mesh" or how to adjust them in a smooth or easy to understand way. or alternatively, could your tutorial here be somehow combined with the process of modding these hairs? your tutorials are one of the more understandable tutorials.
Hey man! Love your work and I appreciate everything you're doing! I'm really struggling with one issue at the moment and I would love if you could help me.... I'm stuck here 5:12 when you specify the surface and select your head model your hair strands appear but for me nothing shows up as if I did nothing.... even after adding my surface uv map. I've followed you step by step and everything was working except that. I really appreciate it and I hope you get this message. again thank you!
Hey hey, and thanks so much for your nice words. It's hard to say what the issue is without seeing your scene. There are a few things to look out for. Check that your UVs are not overlapping anywhere also make sure the scale of your model is applied. If the scale is applied but your model is very small overall, you may have to increase the density. I work in blender units x10. So my generic human is 18 meters tall.
@stefanmayr1983 you will not believe me if i say this. its 2AM, I swear to god I was asleep and I had a dream where i was applying scale and the whole thing worked which made me wake up from happiness! I woke up disappointed because it was a dream lol then i checked my phone and i saw your reply and i was like "this is impossible! I just dreamt of doing exactly what you told me to do". anyways i tried it, it worked!! I'm sorry for blabbering a lot hahaha just wanted to share this. Also again thank you so much for the guide and for the fact that you're answering me back! When i finish my Peter Dinkalge bust I'll post it on youtube and tag you, also ofc I'll give you credits in the video for helping me with the hair! I can't wait to show you. You rock man!
@@Cansyrian ha ha, that's quite a funny story. Crazy how we take our cg life to our dreams. Really looking forward to seeing your work and please feel free to ask questions. If i know the answer i definitely will reply 😉
Hello! First of all, thanks for the amazing tutorial! It really changed everything I knew about the hair creation workflow. I was stuck with using the old particle system, but I see now that this is just much better. There's just one thing I can't quite figure out. By using parting by texture, on the custom interpolate hair curves node, we can get the parting of the hair. But, as you said in the video, we can only paint hard lines with no falloff. There are a couple references and hairstyles I wanted to create that need the hair parting line to be a lot less apparent. I tried to make the parting texture follow a zigzag-like pattern but it just wasn't enough... Do you have any tips on how should I tackle this problem? I really didn't want to separate them into two different hair groups and paint two density maps, I don't think it would be as clean.. Thanks in advance! I wish you much success, you definetely deserve it. 😄
hello and thank you very much for you kind words.. Yeah the parting texture only sees a yes or no, and no inbetween unfortunately,,, what you could try doing is part the hair first and after use the blend hair curves node and play with the settings there. I believe it doesn't let you plug in a selection, so you would have to first separate the hair you want to blend (like with a mask), do some blending on those ones and then join them back together with the rest of the hair. It's really just my first idea I would attempt and can't promise this to be a solution, but hope it will help
@@stefanmayr1983 I think I understand, this probably might work! I will give it a try and come back with updates 😆 Thank you so much for taking the time to answer and consider my question! It's very kind of you 😌
Hi ! I'm following your tutorial with a one part hair I had created before, so it means that the bangs are part of the rest of the hair from the beginning, I wanted to know if there's a way to separate them after, by using an attribute maybe ? or maybe I can still follow your tutorial and apply the bangs node to all the hair because mine are not tied ? thank you so much !!
oh and I'm asking you this because I still did the bangs density map so idk if I can use it then or if I just use the density map for the entire hair we did first
Hello, you should definitely be able to still follow the tutorial. It's not meant to be a step by step guide but rather giving some insights of what could be done. If you want to separate the bangs, you can use your bangs density mask. I believe either in this video or part 3 i combine the bangs with the main hair but use the density mask as a boolean attribute
Is it perhaps a good idea to join all groups into a separate main_grouo, that way we have all curve parts separate and its non-destruxtive Meaning we cN alway go back and easily edit them separately
Hello ! I try to surch everywhere but I don't find the answer to my question so hopefully maybe you can answer it : I would like to know how we can attach accessories to the curve so that if we move the curve, the accessory moves too ! I saw in the demo file that they did this with braids. So if you know a tutorial about that or can explain if you know the answer it would be really marvelous !!
Hello, could you please tell me why the Density mask texture of the Interpolate Hair Curves node tool in the hair system can be used sometimes, and sometimes it is wrong
Hello, if i understand it right, it probably has to do with the UV. You need to tell the interpolate hair curves the name of the uv set otherwise you'll have to use the auto generated uv of the hairs themselves, which is called "surface_uv_coordinate"
@@stefanmayr1983 Thanks, I have solved this problem now, because of the bug produced by different language versions of blender. Again, could you tell me the specific way to obtain the resample_hair_TL tool under hari tools used in the video? I want to apply the resample_hair_tl command, but I don't know how to obtain it. I tried a few things, but nothing worked
@恒远-v8w hello, glad you got it working. So weird it being a language based bug. The resample tool is a custom geo nodes tool i made. It literally just uses the resample curve node so i can increase or decrease the point density when needed
@@stefanmayr1983 awesome :D if possible weight maps as an option would be fantastic too if possible and not too much trouble (although I think your system relies on RGB)

Hello, i have question for you. What are your settings for viewport? I tried to turn on shadows but it still looks flat. In your viewport is much easier to see volumes of hair
Hello, my standard settings for any hair scene is to set the curves viewport display to strip. In the workbench settings i disable outline and enable word space ambient occlusion
Ok, so I have a problem and its been happening no matter what video I follow. Whenever I use interpolate hair curves. I connected the surface and surface uv and assigned them like shown but all that shows is the bangs which were showing before adding. There is none of the extra hair strands that appear like they do on yours.
