    This might be a nice gun for you to try out (From Wiki):
    .50 'ALASKAN"
    Harold Johnson necked out the .348 Winchester case to accept a .510" diameter bullet,[2] and Harold Fuller developed the barrel, marrying a .50 caliber barrel to an old Winchester Model 1886 rifle.
    Harold’s favorite load in the .50 Alaskan was 51.5 grains (3.34 g) of IMR-4198 with a Barnes 400-grain (26 g) flatnose, jacketed bullet for about 2,100 ft/s (640 m/s) and just under 4,000 ft⋅lbf (5,400 J) of muzzle energy.[citation needed].

    Could be interesting to see another video with comparing it to a 45-70 lever gun?
    A lot of people argue that the two rounds deliver similar enough energy that 500 is simply less practical?
    So could be fun to put that argument to rest with actual side by side shooting comparison?

    Scott, this is my dream gun! After a long search for a .480 Ruger Rossi 92, I stumbled across a BHA 89 online that was at a Cabela's store in Billings, Montana. So 2 days before Christmas last year, I dropped a good chunk of change for it. The power of the .500 is unreal. If you're talking straight muzzle energy, the .500 can trounce the .45-70 with the proper load (approaching 4500 ft/lbs), unless you're talking Ruger #1 loads for the .45-70, which end up about the same. But as they say, there's no replacement for displacement, and bigger holes bleed more. This rifle is a handful but so much fun. I never saw an 8" steel gong dance so much!

    • @okgroomer1966
      @okgroomer1966 Год назад

      I'm not sure the hole size matters much with those 2 rounds. They both cause so much damage it's over in a instant in all but the largest game. If we're talking humans both will turn your guts into a milkshake before leaving.

      In terms of standard power, the 500 beats the 45-70. Most 45-70 is loaded to black powder pressures with the exception of a few who make full power loads and that's not the case with the 500, something for those deciding between the two to think about. Then there's cartridge capacity, more firepower with the 500. The 45-70 is no slouch, not in the least, but the 500 is a whole different beast with great capabilities with standard factory ammunition. Hand loading, well that's a whole new ball game for either cartridge.

      @@todydn No, it's not. They're very similar if you're handloading for leverguns.

      @Nathaniel Shrock $2.699, people living in the U.S. are lucky. In Europe, manually importing this rifle adds almost twice the cost and needs to go through complicated evaluation processes, because the manufacturer doesn't officially sell it here and there is sadly no alternative, except for S&W hand cannons, which sell officially in stores.
      A friend of mine had to build a rifle stock and a long barrel on his .500 revolver. It looks pretty hilarious. Europe didn't get any .500 rifles yet, everyone is just using 308 or .338. I hope for the future to get more variety.

    When shooting such a powerful round so close to steel, perhaps move further from the targets. On the off chance of some fragments coming back at you, being further enables the following advantages: 1). Makes being hit less likely 2). Any fragments will be more severely impacted by awkward and irregular trajectories at a long distance) 3. Wide shots? I wish you safe, fun, and profitable days on the range!
