How about some mention of the cutter used here, ie router bit…for us newbies. Just sayin’

Great idea! I'm going to make a modified version with an open end so the 2x4 can slide though (so a half lap can be done at any point)... but you get the credit for giving me the idea!

This router jig looks super convenient, I gotta make a mini version for cutting lap joints in guitar braces

Thanks - great idea. I think it would be better to remove most of it with a saw though and use the router as a clean up tool.

Nicely done. I have a similar, but more challenging, situation. I have a small-format Makita router. Some tradesmen consider it a trimmer. The base is smaller than the lap joint I need to route. I may have to fabricate an oversized base plate for it.

right on. that’s how you do it.
perfect every time. now go and tell everyone else that uses a table saw a hammer and chisel that there’s a much better way.

Simple and easy solution. I'm going to try to adapt this for 45° miters for some corners I'm working on.

Were you able to come up with a 45 jig? going to need something similar but for 3/4" stock at 45

Can we get a video of how you built the jig? Thanks in advance!

It looks like that jig only works for wood that in-line. Does it work for perpendicular pieces?

can you give dimensions of the jig pieces and a video?

I will take a video on a simpler version. I will send a link once it's done.

you didn't do that with 6.5 inch base plate on your router. It won't work...

What kind of bit makes a square plumb flat cut like that?

      @liketheyogurt  Год назад +3

I used a 1/2" straight bit by Whiteside.

Yes, it would have been helpful if he mentioned the type of bit used.

Fit didn’t look good. Can only use on end half laps nothing in between.

Yhe pieces I showed were the test pieces I did during the mock. Unfortunately the pieces I was working with had some bend and twist in them so the laps weren't the 100%. I think you could take this idea and make a jig that would go on a middle section for those kind of laps.

Didn’t get anything from this video. He says in the video look what I made. Ok you made it, so what! Then he shows the router mobing around, no comments on how to use it. Useless video

How can something be "more even"? Something is either even or it's not.
