    Thank you for the tip on saw depth. I've been using a measuring tape and it produced cuts that I declared "good enough" but were really not. Swapping the wood upside down till you get the paper thin slice is brilliant. The blade you used doesn't look like the one in your link (or is it?), so I wondered what blade you were using? Thanks again!

    Liked the video, good sound and shots! I have always just measuered my lap joints, but see the value and will check out the jig's pricing. Do you do a lot of lap joints? I see alot of 1x scraps. Is your shop use mainly hobby work,(1 offs) or do you do production work? Thanks for sharing and the detailed demo of the Kerfmaker jig S&S! Would like to see a video of your shop sometime. I will look for more of your videos S&S. Go Bengals!

    Hi - I've noticed you have a DeWalt table saw, as do I. What's the flat-top saw blade you use? I'm struggling to find one that'll fit the 30mm arbor that the DeWalt's have...

      I have the Ridge carbide box joint blade. I dont think is available on Amazon anymore. But a full kerf ripping blade usually have flat top as well. I am looking at ridge Carbide TS2000 Heavy duty 10" 24 tooth rip blade on amazon. In the description under Features and details it says Flat top.

  • @Realism91
    @Realism91 4 месяца назад

    Another way is to take an offcut of the material you want to fit and rip it in two and glue it back together resulting in a piece of wood one blade less that can be used against a stop block to get the second cut. If the offcut is too small use hold downs on a sled to rip, if it's too tight your scrap might have had planer snipe.

    Cut a piece of the same material 45°on both sides to get the middle. Raise or lower your blade until the top is even with the cut. No guess, no mess. Make your cuts. Inspire Woodcraft does an excellent video on how to make lap joints.

      7:44 How is cutting at 45° different than cutting at 90° in the video? Seems like it would just waste more material.

    • @bobd5119
      @bobd5119 11 месяцев назад +2

      @@edeaglehouse2221 First, place a stop block. Then cut at 45.
      Then flip over the piece that was against the stop. Cut at 45. This produces a knife edge at half the board's thickness. Place the knife against the blade and set the blade to the knife's edge.

      @pattieaglehouse1617 11 месяцев назад

      @@bobd5119 Now that makes a lot of sense. Where the bevels cut from both faces meet is exactly halfway. No fiddling other than to eyeball each cut so they go more than halfway through, without much waste. Thanks for explaining!

    Measure the width of the wood and the depth. Use a square and pencil to mark such on both pieces of the wood. Draw the line with a knife. Chisel to the line to form a saw recess and cut using a handsaw. Cut out waste with a chisel and make flat and square. Do the same to the other piece. No need for kerf measures, power saw and countless trials to establish width of blade. Perfect every time once learnt, with added satisfaction of using a learnt skill. 😊
