    I had no idea that any miter/chop saws had a depth stop, the 4 I've used have all lacked it. I was always just really impressed when folks seemed able to consistently hit the same depth "by hand".

    This was great timing as I am new to woodworking and was wondering what my next tools would be. Your video was well made and really showed how to handle the wood.
    Thanks

    What bit did you use on the last little router tool? Also, with that little router, it would work to do an overlap cut right, not just on the end? Thank you for the video, I do very little woodwork myself, and only have a few tools, I think I'm thinking about buying a router, they are cheap enough and small enough, just not sure what bit I need to make these types of dado cuts

    I’ve gotta make 32 1 1/2 inch deep, 3/4 inch wide half lap joints and the thought of raising a dado stack to its max height frightened me, I had completely forgotten about the depth stop on my sliding miter saw. 😂

      Hand saw would take forever - these methods are practical. I think most people could probably get a used skill saw cheap

    Great video you show the one I need you to show how to cut it already done but you don’t show how to cut it. The interlocking X pieces.

    • @JohnBuildsIt

      All the same methods. Just cutting on the edge of the pieces instead of the face

    Good stuff. Very helpful. Question - Does the stock thickness need to be divisible by 2? For example, you're using 1 1/2 stock joined to 3/4. Would it matter if the smaller piece was say, 5/8? I'm trying to build your outfeed table with dimensional lumber. I've milled the 4x4s down to 3 1/8 square and now need to mill the 2x4. After jointing and planing the 2x4s I'll probably have them down somewhere around 1 1/4. Do I need to plane the 4x4 so their max thickness is twice the thickness of what I'm joining them to?

    • @JohnBuildsIt
      @JohnBuildsIt  8 месяцев назад +1

      No you don’t have to do exactly half. If they do end up 1 1/4 (or whatever) you’d just cut your lap joint that depth so they end up flush

      Thanks. That’s what I was hoping! Got the legs and stretchers milled and about to throw the dado stack in to cut my first half lap!

    Good advice. Note to self, dont be so anal about having a perfectly smooth cut on the bottom. It doesn’t matter and nobody will see it anyway.
