Packing a Purple Mattress for Moving
Neat idea
This router jig looks super convenient, I gotta make a mini version for cutting lap joints in guitar braces
Awesome! I have a Tesla and really wanted to do some cross country sight seeing and thought a purple twin mattress would be perfect for the back, but I wasn’t sure how I would store it, now I think I have that problem solved. I wonder if repetition of this would harm the mattress over time?
you didn't do that with 6.5 inch base plate on your router. It won't work...
Great idea! I'm going to make a modified version with an open end so the 2x4 can slide though (so a half lap can be done at any point)... but you get the credit for giving me the idea!
how to build the Jig
Where did you get the bag. I'm gonna need one
Thanks so much for posting! I'm keeping mine in storage and didn't know what to do.
Can you use a regular vacuum? Or you need a specific kind?
How about some mention of the cutter used here, ie router bit…for us newbies. Just sayin’
Is that a Paul Elam shirt?
I'm getting some Project bluebeam vibes
woohoo. Omg! awesome ~ catch you later-=)
Simple and easy solution. I'm going to try to adapt this for 45° miters for some corners I'm working on.
Were you able to come up with a 45 jig? going to need something similar but for 3/4" stock at 45
Children at these age dont lie. So now you know in which mindset this music was made and what emotions they trigger: 3 year old shouting ;)
How can something be "more even"? Something is either even or it's not.
Will a regular vac work or does it have to be a shop-vac?
That's a good question. I'm sure you could. It might take longer.
Did you encounter any negative effects from vacuum sealing? Also, is this the original purple grid king or one of their foam/grid hybrids?
Great question. This was done 2 years ago and we haven't experienced any negative side affects from the vacuum sealing. We have the original Purple mattress and not one of the new hybrids.
What kind of machine was that
It was a rigid vacuum, like a shop vac. It was the largest vacuum I had.
Love the little guys shirt!!!🤘
He’s sooo cute… he said “it tastes like water” I’m dying 🥹🤣🤣🤣
Can't open it, I know what's coming. Then the water let down. Real Talk... Real Life...

Great idea, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you!!!!
Where can I find this
I have a non-affiliated link in the comments for the one I used.
Confirmed bought my mattress in Jan 2022 moved in Nov 2022. The zipbag in this video works excellently made a smaller footprint and shrunk down maybe just under half it's height. Used it on my king hybrid lvl 2. Foam and springs. Buddy and I rolled it into 3rds. Highly recommend getting some straps from Menards. The buckles on the included strapped busy to pieces cincing down. Safer than sorry especially if you are mid ride.
Idk how u let them win then brag 😂😂 so wholesome though
Awwwwwwwww
I have never thought to stomp on the air mattress while compressing. Smart idea. I always squeezed the air out against vacuum cleaner (cause it already sucks air) a lot of times to speed up the process specially really big air mattresses.
What kind of bit makes a square plumb flat cut like that?
I used a 1/2" straight bit by Whiteside.
right on. that’s how you do it. perfect every time. now go and tell everyone else that uses a table saw a hammer and chisel that there’s a much better way.
No one is stepping on my bed.
Check out Stumpy Nubs Jig
Fit didn’t look good. Can only use on end half laps nothing in between.
Yhe pieces I showed were the test pieces I did during the mock. Unfortunately the pieces I was working with had some bend and twist in them so the laps weren't the 100%. I think you could take this idea and make a jig that would go on a middle section for those kind of laps.
I like the jig... the music not so much
I have a queen size Purple 2 hybrid( coils). This method works, but you’ll need to fold/roll and lay on the mattress because the coils will resist the vacuum. Not sure how this will affect the coils when I unwrap it later on. Goodluck people.
Any update on the mattress after unpacking
Just squeeze the air out against vacuum cleaner to speed up the process
@@tylerjones3663 Nope, crossing my fingers.
@@cancelboi8937 Was everything alright in the end? How are you even moving this thing anyway, if you don’t mind me asking? Aren’t they like 120lbs+?? I’m still a bit of a young buck but even for me that sounds a bit discouraging, like it’s going to be incredibly hard to carry and move or even just get up into my bedroom to begin with if I buy one (which I desperately want to but have been too nervous to pull the trigger on). I’ve been sleeping on an old shitty, uncomfortable, sunken-in bed for as long as I can remember-it was actually my parents’ bed when I was a little kid-and I really want to finally have a nice mattress of my own to sleep on but I’m only in my 20s so it’s no small expense for me to get and I’ve never done this sort of thing before so I REALLY want to be sure I’m not going to regret it :/
@@tylerjones3663 I just unpacked a couple of weeks ago. I haven’t noticed any differences, so I’d say this is a safe method for long-term storage.
Amazing video captured at low attitude
Too slow
Neat idea and a very simple jig. Thanks for sharing 👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Didn’t get anything from this video. He says in the video look what I made. Ok you made it, so what! Then he shows the router mobing around, no comments on how to use it. Useless video
Here’s
Nicely done. I have a similar, but more challenging, situation. I have a small-format Makita router. Some tradesmen consider it a trimmer. The base is smaller than the lap joint I need to route. I may have to fabricate an oversized base plate for it.
Cool music. Any idea of the title?
I will take a video on a simpler version. I will send a link once it's done.
holy crap this is awesome. i found this video a minute ago and the bag is already ordered and will be here in a couple hours apparently. LIFE SAVER! Uhaul has been a nightmare. Tips: Dont move at the end of the month or season!
𝖕𝖗𝖔𝖒𝖔𝖘𝖒
can you give dimensions of the jig pieces and a video?
Thank you! This is literally exactly what I was looking for since our family is about to move overseas, and we really would like to ship our Purple mattresses, if at all possible. Once you vacuum packed it, were you able to fold the bagged mattress in half? Or was it pretty firm?
So this is the original Purple mattress. The one without the box springs. With that being said, I was able to roll it like a sleeping bag and used straps to hold it together. It worked well for us. It was shoved into a corner of a shipping container and didn't break it's seal. I wish you the best of luck with your move!
@@liketheyogurt 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼Awesome! We also have the original purple mattresses, so this is SO helpful! Seriously, thanks so much for posting and your response!
Same!!!!!
Are you military by chance? I was thinking about using this system for PCSing
What bit too
Yes, it would have been helpful if he mentioned the type of bit used.
