In the 70s I had a poster of OJ on my wall that I cherished. One of greatest ever. I know he's made a mockery of his life and destroyed lives along the way but he was awesome to watch.

Doobie Hammer, thanks for your comment....as we at ImaSportsphile have the opinion that....to every sports fan that has ever lived.....every athlete should be graded on their performances on the field.....and O J was beyond great....he really is the gold standard for backs even today.....size, speed, strength, eye, reflexes, agility et al.... and O J had world class speed. The same goes for Joe Jackson, Pete Rose or OJ....what they did in their personal lives....God will judge them.... but what they did on the field....man gets to judge them.....and "no matter what".....as long as they played the game the way the game is meant to be played.....by the rules of the game and fair play.....so O J and Rose weren't great.....they were truly superior athletes.

In the early and mid 70’s OJ was the best player in the league. Back then they showed highlights at the half on MNF and you were right there to see what he did. All the Bills had was him and he still couldn’t be stopped. He had a lot to do with the league taking off in popularity.

I saw O J in his prime he was an spectacular runner saw the game where he set the record of 2003 yards in a season that was the last game of the 1973 season at Shea Stadium against the hapless jets it was an unforgettable feat and He was the first one to do it. It's a shame what happened afterwards. An American Tragedy!

Whatever he did as a person, and I believe he was responsible for the murders he was accused of, I will still always remember watching him run and being amazed at the moves and the broken tackles; he was insanely good. He had everything a person could ever dream of having but threw it away out of jealousy and insecurity. Pathetic.

czechraiser, thanks for your comment....for in my attempt to post all 2300 hrs. of vintage sports, comedy and music at www.imasportsphile.com ....I try to maintain a postivie spin on all responses to my efforts.....so, one of the greatest lessons that I learned from Bone Daddy....the original Sportsphile....is that time either promotes a person or it exposes a person....and no person escapes the time that they have spent in their life....but what is most important is not when one gets exposed....it is what one does after their exposure....and that seems to be O J's reality.....he was exposed again and again without learning from his exposure....and what's more, this lil ole chiweenie Sportsphile agrees with you that as a football fan....O J Simpson was worth watching with great joy and excitement for he was special when he stepped on the gridiron.

Our society ironically put sport's stars above most everyone else. They are the highest paid, most talked about and most publicized. ( Save maybe movie stars and entertainers) So they have the farthest to fall basically. Sadly, tragically, O.J. fits that criteria. It's quite a fall from fame to infamy. Yes he was a great football player, but as a human being, not so much.
