I think if they had trained for an event like this (unlikely, I know), they could have figured out how to deal with the infected. I mean, it's not like this kind of event was off the books. They had the option to brainstorm ideas for this kind of thing happening during operations like: sounding a retreat, suppressing while others reloaded, carrying explosives to chuck into the hole, always having someone ready to drive the cars away, leaving a reserve force in the QZ, simply backing away from the damned hole for more space! The scariest part is knowing that ALL the infected will eventually become this stage at even for the most successful survivors! And that ain’t even the final stage! Just imagine them ALL being bloaters!
This is not true, because as you see the bloater is MASSIVE! Most infected die by either getting killed or by starvation before ever reaching this stage. Only a very BIG strong person capable to survive for years and probably with enough fat reserves will reach this stage. For most the final stage is clicker before dying and the fungus spreads out on the walls and ground.
@@thurnishaley24 Wrong. Bloaters are rare as they take Years to fully form, their size is due to years of the fungi growing around it, creating an Armor. Clickers in-game, canonically take about a year to develop. So any infected that can survive years will transform into a bloater
Like how this ties into my two favorite headcannons on the infected: 1.The cordyceps removes the natural mental limiters we have in our brain. Aka, when you preform an action like a bicep curl, you aren't using your full strength to do it, partly because of the energy cost, and partly because if you used your full energy all the time, you'd snap bones or tear muscles. The fungus in their brains doesn't care, it just wants it's puppet to find food and new hosts, so everyone besides Runners and wall units are maxed out all the time, which is why kid sized units can pin an adult And 2 Bloaters are formed from big people, either in height or girth, that also had enough food when they were growing, either from victims or other humans hooked up to a cordyceps network, that meant it keeps the cordyceps fed enough to lean to a tank form instead of a wall form
Love the first theory. But bloaters can be anyone infected. The transformation takes years and years. That's why they're rarer. It explains it better in the game.
The pinning thing doesn't quite make sense because the child still weighs the same as a child. Even if her muscles are at max power, she still weighs the same so you could probably just push her off.
The bloater was on point. From the charging to the jaw ripping and loud roaring sounds was perfectly done awsome..Great job to the people who created this show, every thing was perfectly done like the game. I cant wait to see the shambler and rat king
I just noticed this upon watching again, during that whole battle, the infected are pouring out of the sinkhole at a constant rate, how many of them are down there? Fuckin terrifying.
Years ago survivors along with the remaining militia cleansed the city of infestation and pushed back infected down the sewers then sealed all the exits. Presumably there were still thousands of them in the sewers
It was said that FEDTA (maybe) pushed all the infected into the sewers, the militia never tried clearing it because the shit leader was so focused on sam and henry
@henpie3336 Yeah, they did do that but i guess at some point FEDRA tried to get rid of the infected but it failed (maybe I'm wrong but I've done a lot of research and I'm just hoping I'm right)
I read somewhere the reason they’re so few infected in the show is because many of them have died out by now from starvation or the weather. when I think about it, colder countries like Russia, Scandinavia, Scotland, Canada, and Alaska probably safe because they get freezing cold winters
U realize it’s not a show where the main focus is killing infected/bandit? Unlike the videogame, where u have a lot of fight with infected and people, because a videogame needs gameplay. U read some bullshit and believed to it like an idiot
Well, in the second game at the beginning, you can see many of them already dead for the winter, but this things also can hide inside the buildings and survive from the cold, so those countries are not worst as US but by far same as fucked.
That would be an interesting aspect, but I feel like it also dwindles the urgency of a cure. I have considered that heavily, like areas that are more isolated (like New Zealand or Hawaii) probably stand a chance, but with the inclusion of the wheat spread (The reason the pandemic was...well, a pandemic), there is a chance that nowhere is safe.
this sounds like mostly nonsense. i'm pretty sure they just decided to focus more on the human elements of the series since the infected are better suited for the action-packed video game. That and showing the infected is expensive. I don't think it's necessarily a bad thing that they focused more on the humanity side of things but i do wish they included more infected into the narrative every now and then.
3:55 Ellie: They're in danger Joel: Doesn't matter, only protecting you- you are priority Ellie: fuck that, i'm helping them Joel: (is forced to help them)
yeah and its so retarded with in 5 seconds of her somehow taking down a zombie by pricking its shoulder with the shittest knife ever does the same thing to the other and has to be helped
Can I say this is absolutely true. I worked in retail years ago both on Black Friday and Boxing Day. Humans are exactly like this. It's terrifying being at your cash and hearing and feeling the rumbling of hundreds of people and their screaming as they rush to get stuff. Freaky!
The roar at 2:39 along with the music and the sounds the bloater made as it climbed up was absolutely epic! Can’t wait to see how they do with the Rat King!
One thing that bugs me is with all that noise happening around the clicker, it just so happened to stick it's head into the car with someone making no noise at all.
I think the show established that the infected are able to sense whether or not someone nearby is infected. Like the scene with Tess where the stalker seemed to know she was beginning to turn and accelerated the process with his mouth tentacles. Maybe the clicker somehow sensed the infection in Ellie's body and how she hasn't yet turned and came after her to "help".
the rebels are beyond stupid, the second the infected started crawling out the ground you know you cant hold them off there in the open, you need to call for an immediate retreat back behind the walls, sure youll lose some men but its better than losing all men, also the guy telling her to run died pointlessly, he seemed like the most competent soldier they have, his death didnt even buy her anytime he died straight away, he would have been better off leading her to a car then driving off

I think if they had trained for an event like this (unlikely, I know), they could have figured out how to deal with the infected. I mean, it's not like this kind of event was off the books. FEDRA and the KC Resistance knew how cordyceps worked, and that the federalists pushed the infected underground and hadn't actually killed them. Honestly, these rebels are real fucking stupid. Imagine using your entire damned army to hunt down just one man and a kid when you've already dealt with most of the FEDRA loyalists!

I love the detail at 1:25-1:30 of an infected falling down as it climbs out and gettibg run over by infected as before its able to get up
The scariest part is knowing that ALL the infected will eventually become this stage at even for the most successful survivors!
For most the final stage is clicker before dying and the fungus spreads out on the walls and ground.
well their mutation is extremely rare since infected usually die from starvation or people killing them before they can turn into bloaters
Only especially large people could turn into bloaters or shamblers. Regular sized people could only become clickers, if they made it that far.
At that point it seems the bloater is more about just ripping people apart than spreading the fungus...?
@@thurnishaley24 Wrong. Bloaters are rare as they take Years to fully form, their size is due to years of the fungi growing around it, creating an Armor. Clickers in-game, canonically take about a year to develop. So any infected that can survive years will transform into a bloater
Like how this ties into my two favorite headcannons on the infected:
1.The cordyceps removes the natural mental limiters we have in our brain. Aka, when you preform an action like a bicep curl, you aren't using your full strength to do it, partly because of the energy cost, and partly because if you used your full energy all the time, you'd snap bones or tear muscles. The fungus in their brains doesn't care, it just wants it's puppet to find food and new hosts, so everyone besides Runners and wall units are maxed out all the time, which is why kid sized units can pin an adult
And 2
Bloaters are formed from big people, either in height or girth, that also had enough food when they were growing, either from victims or other humans hooked up to a cordyceps network, that meant it keeps the cordyceps fed enough to lean to a tank form instead of a wall form
@@Ghoulstards Yeah though it's like a raccoon attacking your leg. You can kick the fucker off but he'll get that fucking leg hurting for a long while

Okay, now that's cool that the bloater did the kill from the game.
I just noticed this upon watching again, during that whole battle, the infected are pouring out of the sinkhole at a constant rate, how many of them are down there? Fuckin terrifying.
That’s what I said
A whole city's worth. FEDRA's genius plan was to shove all the infected into the city underground.
Most infected are in urban areas
Everyone who played TLOU froze when they heard the bloater roar for the first time

One thing that bugs me is with all that noise happening around the clicker, it just so happened to stick it's head into the car with someone making no noise at all.
that is a good point but ya know.. plot
