- Xbox announced a new Gears of War that feels like a return to classic form. I've learned some bits about the game from speaking with the developers - I also want to dive into things I'd like to see in the game.

Maybe I'm in the minority, but I loved both Gears 4 and 5.
The recipe is already there for both Gears and Fable, they just need to modernize it and with UE5 and Forzatech in the hands of talented devs like playground and the coalition, I'm sure they will. 343 also figured it's time to switch to UE and hire some proper talent so halo is on the right track as well.
As a gamer in my 40’s I’m happy that single player games are still popular. I remember when multiplayer was getting big there was a fear in the industry that it would kill single player games. There’s nothing like it imo. It reminds me of renting a game back in the day and playing in the dark over the weekend

@@jasonsmith530 honestly Halo just needs to die. I REALLY hope they don't make another Halo, and this is coming from someone who has loved Halo since CE came out. After H3 it went down hill and never stopped. Reach was meh, everything after it was garbage. 343 sucks at making Halo games.
i just hope they totally lean into the locusts being much bigger and more feared than the humans before they got buff as fuck to match them physically. marcus being thrown around like that and then thrown into the ceiling itself is very telling and i don’t see anyone talking about it
I was so excited for that scene . It seems more in line with the lore of the locust.
Making every locust a real threat again will be the biggest thing for this game
Were soldiers enhanced after E Day? I'm not super into lore after playing 1-3 years ago but I know there was comics and all kinds of stuff that expanded the lore.

Yeah i hope for the same. There's just something great about desperate fights and last stands in games and e-day will sure be brutal. Most hyped game in a while love gears of war.
I want Gears 3's Horde Mode, 4 player co-op, the vibes of the first Gears. They never quite re-captured the horror elements of the original. Like when you have to deal with the Kryll, or that lab with the wretches.
Nah they have to stick with the 2 player co-op it allows things to stay tense and they don't have to always have 4 people in the story for things to work
Now maybe a 4 player side story thing where you play as other characters could be cool

Besides, if it gets too easy you can always ramp things up to Insane.

@@nainfuego The same would happen with 1 other person. It did even with the first game. It's why generally, horror games don't have co-op or can't pull off co-op while maintaining tension.

Gears of War is one of, if not my favorite game of all time. Watching the Xbox show, I literally jumped out of my couch when I saw the cog symbol on the TV in the reveal trailer. It was one of the best "one more thing" moments in recent gaming history. Beyond excited for Gears to be back!
Dom just could never catch a break, yet he always tried to stay afloat, strong, and somewhat cheery.
John DiMaggio still sounds exactly the same when he does Marcus so I think he HAS to return (+ he's in the trailer grunting)
Hopefully the same for Dom, Hoffman and Kim (Robin Atkin Downes) etc.

His Marcus is good but his Bender is legendary. Most of his thousands of characters sound amazing. He is the Mel Blank of our times. I love catching a cartoon my kids are watching and hearing his voice. You could watch a whole day of Cartoon Network programming and create a drinking game every time you hear his voice on a random character!
If you wanted to know how bad E Day was Emergency Day when The locust horde invaded the surface world the surivors called the ones that died the lucky ones

Small thing, but I kind of love that young Marcus has a bit more facial similarity to J.D. You can see the family resemblance even more than you do in Gears 4/5.

I really wanna see Tai. Don’t ask me why but he’s my favorite character. I want to see him kick butt and survive impossible scenarios.

They said this game will explore the origins of the chainsaw lancer, which means we’ll see Tai. He inspires Adam Fenix to make the MK2 Lancer.

I want some great campaign co op cause Gears Of War is what finally got my wife to join me in co op. Well it also took Dom getting knocked down about 50 times against General Raam before I said if u want to see the end, you're going to have to take over cause Dom's AI is a f***ing stupid lol 😂 I hope John DiMaggo, Robin Atkins Downes and some others return to reprise voices too. We have the Gears 3, Gears 4 and Gears 5 xbox consoles that my nephews still use, when they visit us, except for the Gears 3 one.

Yeah I think he died in Aspho Fields. So if this is E-day than that means it's been like 2 months tops since he died.
@@mattock1233 The games definitely going to start during the war. Trailer shows them coming home then getting jumped by the Locust. Wouldn't hit as hard if the intro cutscene or whatever just starts with Locusts emerging.
I remember getting a 360 just for Gears. Unfortunately, the first 3 out the box all had the ‘Red Ring of Death’…4th times a charm! 👌🏻

Gears 2 is my personal favorite, i would just play hoard mode with the Shotty & Sniper for hours, it was endless & satisfyingly fun i don't even remember if i played the campaign.

I got into Gears during the pandemic and quickly became a fan. I'm excited for E-Day no matter they end up doing, honestly.
To me, gears was the original trilogy. I just can't see these new characters leave an impact like the old ones.
There are two things that I hope will be in Gears of War E-Day. Firstly, terrifying beserker encounters like in the first game. Secondly, nighttime segments with the kryll. Just a little nod to the first game, that would be nice

My enthusiasm for Blacklist bottomed out when I heard Michael Ironside wasn't going to be playing Sam Fisher. I adore the Splinter Cell franchise but still never played it. If they do recast GoWED I will probably just chuck on audio of Adventure Time while I play it to cope.
There's no way I'd ever deprive myself of a good game over a voice actor no matter how beloved, not forever anyway it's an old and cheap game now
I'm sold on this game. I love the relationships between the characters, so getting to know their foundations is a great place to explore.
Im very excited to potentially see Tai and Adam fenix again, if the lancer does get madr at some point in this game tai and adam will have to be in it. Tai come up with the idea and he used a buzzsaw to cut up a locust and adam is the one who actually made it. Also maybe a small flashback to see carlos would be absolutly amazing, i feel like we need to finally see carlos somehow man
I wonder if Microsoft will release Gears of War on PlayStation? Since we got Sea of Thieves awhile back.
I believe they already said they don’t plan on bringing over any flagship games and the 3 Xbox games they brought over to PS5 are the only ones they are planning on bringing over

Please 4 player splitscreen for multiplayer 🙏 (Completely understandable if campaign is exclusively only 2 as having 3+ like Hivebusters could affect the structure of the campaign/story)
I really hope the Coalition doesn't ruin this game. GoW 4 and 5 were major let downs for a lot of OG fans so TC doesn't have a very good track record so far.

I think I disagree with the voice actor take. I feel like a 20 something Marcus would look really odd with Dimaggios super gravely voice, but I dunno
I'm the very rare fan that has really no clue much about the story...I've started late into 3 and judgement and then always started the campaign but then get a lil into Multi-player but then completely sucked into Horde modes. I can't get enough of it. I always tell myself, when I'm bored of horde ill get into the campaign but 3 through 5, I have not touched it or looked into it. The look of the world characters and enemies, mechanics, and most importantly... the guns.... were all enough for me
So I missed the boat on the Gears games. I was busy with life and in high school when the first game released, and all I remember are the amazing commercials, and how good the games looked. Fast forward to current day, and I went back and tried both Gears of War 1 & 5. 1 got boring to me pretty quickly, even playing with a friend. I think we’ve moved on mechanically and without nostalgia it wore thin pretty quickly. Then I tried 5, and I just wasn’t feeling it. I’ll give it one more try when this one comes out, but it’s not looking like it’s going to be a series that clicks with me. It’s a shame, because so many people love this series, and I’m just not one of those people.

I'm actually playing Gears 5, after playing the first trilogy like there was no tomorrow. Gears 5 is a fine game, but man, kait is really insufferable. Despicable. I really cannot stand her. JD was already a weak character in GoW 4, and he has been bashed down in Gears 5 just to ELEVATE KAIT AS A NEW PROTAGONIST. Jeez, this stinks a lot. If it could only be possible to play the 2 middle chapters in G5 as Del instead of kait, it would be awesome.
That whole point about the voice makes the character is part of the reason I’m nervous for the god of war show… if it’s even happening anymore, every character could be played by anyone probably but kratos NEEDS to be kratos
Honestly, if they DONT get John Dimaggio back, it'll be because they didn't ask. The man has stated in the past that he LOVES being the voice of Marcus, that it is among his favorite Roles of all time... and that at conventions, when asked to say something as one of the characters hes voiced, its almost Always either Marcus or Bender.(another of his favorites to voice)

But i want to know, What OTHER characters will be involved...
We know A few who wont be, Like Baird, Cole, and Dizzy, because Marcus only met Baird and cole in Gears 1, and dizzy was a conscript between gears 1 and 2, and again, marcus hadnt met him yet.
And we know at least ome character who WILL be in the game: Anya Stroud. And probably Hoffman.
I love gears and I’m especially excited to see the locust again. Not only were they scary monster looking but they were like a real army. A force with rankings and iconic characters of their own. I really hope we get more of that in this game and the locust get some love too

Its the dude equivalent of a chick flick. It's why we all love Braveheart, Saving Private Ryan, Fury, or any other number of movies.
It works.
Long story short, the best thing the Coalition could do with this revamp is to keep it linear, dark, and gory just like the originals... but with a twist. Turn it into a massive horror game!
Combine dead space with dark souls and sprinkle the original Gears Of War magic on it (with a huge horrifying war everywhere around you) And voila! You'd have the perfect comeback for Gears of War.

The reason why i think this would be the ideal way to bring it back is solely from the perspective anybody would have on E-DAY. Could you imagine? These big, brute, scaley, monsters popping out of the ground everywhere and just shredding all humanity down. Women, children, seniors, anybody that isnt a locust. Humaniyy isnt prepared... dont even know how to stop or defeat them...thats a perfect horror story setting if iv ever heard one.
One thing I’ll say to the Coalition as they are diving into events that pre-date the gears that I grew up with. DO. NOT.FUCK.THIS. UP. Don’t go adding a bunch of shit to a perfect formula. Capture the grittyness of gears one. The desperation of gears 2. The bonds and emotions of gears 3. Honor this title and For the love of god don’t do fuckin battle pass like a bunch of greedy little shits do. Please respect this game.

This game is why I bought Xbox. There is also Judgement, Gears 3.5. I have steelbooks of all games and Xbox one X Gears edition. Really love this game.
Imagine you play with the Retro Lancer the whole game and in the second to last Act, the scene where Tai uses a power saw to slice up a Locust to save Marcus happens. Then in the last act you are introduced to the Lancer Mk.2 and get to try the chainsaw bayonet out for the entire last Act.
Gears 2 was my fav, the new games are just ok, feels too clean... missing the gritty griminess of the og trilogy. Would love a good horde mode above all else if I can only choose one thing. Again, Gears 2 to me was absolute perfection
Completely disagree, maybe 4 felt that way and it was indeed just ok, but 5 was fantastic and I enjoyed it greatly which was probably helped by revisiting some classic locations
Man I would just love a Pendulum Wars game series. There's just so much stuff before EDay and the Locust War that isn't really touched outside of the comics.
I played gears of war 1,2 back in the day, but didn’t bother with 3,4,5. I’ve played some of part 3 the past few days and I’m up to Act 5. I was enjoying it but it gets abit repetitive after a while it’s the same thing over and over again and with the same weapons and the same enemies. I’m going to try and finish it and move onto 4 and 5 but even if I don’t play them fully or get through them, I’ll still check out E Day cuz it’s a prequel and guaranteed the only reason they are releasing a prequel is so they can get a new younger Audience into gears of war and then they’ll probably remake the og gears of war

I want to see a Gears of War E-Day and Gears 1-3, all in one package, with 1-3 remastered further. ... All on PC.
I think it’s shocking we never got this out the gears franchise already, I remember thinking the series/franchise was done after 3. Answering questions I never thought to ask. I won’t go buy an Xbox for it but if one comes my way it’ll be something I’ll look into with interest.

It's about time they return to form. I just hope they don't invalidate what comes later in the Gears of War Trilogy. The gameplay is the best part but it's so closely followed by the storyline that they're inseparable. So the established lore is super important. Timeline of events, weapons, characters appearing when and where they should, etc. There's tons of established lore but there's also a bunch of wiggle room.
I have no doubt the campaign is going to be fantastic. Im hoping the multiplayer is just as good, and isn't bare bones at launch like a lof of modern games (Halo Infinite). I want all my favorite characters (the Carmines) available, and it'd be cool to have a ton of classic maps but I won't be upset if the Coalition wants a set of entirely new maps available.
I think we actually see more of this game soon. It's all they've been working on. I really liked Gears tactics but even that came out a couple of years ago now and I think splash damage did that game. I'm really hoping for a gameplay teaser end of the year with hopefully a fall/winter 2025 release.
Gears of War with more of a horror theme, slow pace grind with new locust/monsters would be awesome! Plenty of opportunities for that with this story! Cant wait! 💪🙏🇺🇸
I feel I'm in the minority in being disappointed that they have to sell this series on nostalgia now and how this series couldn't out grow delta squad.
This game has always felt like an anti-war story. It was about the war and the victims of it, it's bleak even the name, Gears of War. All just components in the machine.
But they've focused too much on delta squad to carry the series. Like this conflict has nothing else going on. Around gears 3 the story and lore of the game was really picking up, I use to buy the books, figures, seriously huge fan of this game, but this announcement felt so hollow, I wanted this series to move forward and tell new stories that captured the spirit of the og trilogy.
Gears 4 was good and so was 5, but they lost what the series was about, making it more about the characters and their marvel style 'banter' and team ups and drama. You could see this with the name 'Gears' it was about the characters and how important they were in the story, how they changed the war. OG trilogy for sure had that, but to what it had to, all the characters that surrounded that story what happened to them, Dom dies in a gas station, his wife executed in a dirty underground base, it was all very dramatic, but played to feel authentic.
You can tell these people are just making this game because they have to make a gears game, no head is guiding this series because they feel like they believe in it like when Cliff was heading the series. He just believed in it and was confident about it, yeah he's a bit of a prick sometimes, but that man had passion and vision god-damnit
Would love to see some new maps but also the return of some classic Gears 1 maps that haven't already been in other Gears games.
I hope they do bring out more darker, horror like elements to the story to make E-Day the traumatizing event the lore made it out to be. I feel that this could really flesh out where Dom and Marcus is coming from as well as their mindset.
I would also love to see if the Lancer evolves into the chainsaw Lancer we know and love today. Granted it would be a nostalgia grab, but it’ll work.
I also wonder if mention of Raam will be in the game; maybe showing him moving up the ranks, or possibly usurping his title of general

I really loved The Coalitions Gears of War games, was surprised it wasn’t Gears 6 but I trust them to deliver with E-Day
10:27 I would like to see the ability to skin your own generic. There is much to be learned from the character customization of BG3. These shooters could really borrow from rpgs when it comes to building characters. Folks that served all have extremely separate and distinct stories to tell.
I want a heavily focused campaign. No shitty modern micro transaction multiplayer please

Finally getting around and watching this video, not a fan of gears of war at all I was hoping to see a tears of war trilogy, kind of like the halo chief collection prior to the HMCC I wasn’t a fan of halo either when I got that I didn’t become a huge fan, but it was interesting and now that I got five and was pretty hyper interested in halo infinite, and enjoy both of those. But not coming from a big halo fan those games set different with me than people who really love the original Halo games. I think I got gears five through Xbox live gold or try to play it on Game Pass or something and it just didn’t hit me. I absolutely hated the controls in halo but it was interesting and engaging with me enough that I kept pushing, but for some reason with gears of war, I just couldn’t get on with it. I was hoping maybe with an original trilogy remastered that I can give it another go and maybe get the same feeling I got with Halo, but that doesn’t seem to be coming out at all maybe even even a canceled project. So I’m pretty much here just seeing your thoughts and stuff about gears and giving you a like.

I want the classic Gears of War 2 horde back, hated what it’s become with the fortifications
If we get Carlos as a playable character I’m fucking hyped, gears 5 overall gameplay wasn’t bad just wish it had more detailed gore like the trilogy, like when you saw someone get chainsawed you can actually see the organs and bones and not just a huge singular meat in the body. If they work ironing out small details and actually bring back the same true feels of gears I’ll play this game a lot easily.
