Ngl I bought a PS5 this year but never went to Astro's Playroom until this game came out and EVERYONE started talking about it... And Holy Sh* it's GREAT! Thanks Jake and all the FPS cast. 😃
That final missions was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game especially since I grew up with PS1 as my first console and been with Playstation ever since. Haven't smiled this much in a game in a while
Jake, Selene is in it, you just have to bring her over from Astro's Playroom. I agree about the ending! It was so epic. You wouldn't think a humble little game like this couldnt tug on your heartstrings, but it definitely does! I disagree when you say you don't think he has the appeal of other mascot platformers, though. He has tons of personality, and being a robot, there are endless possibilities for what he can do or become! I could easily see him becoming the biggest PlayStation mascot yet and involved in many more types of games.
Literally was trying to think of what the theme song sounded like earlier and was just assuming it was a theme from another PlayStation game and right before you said it sounded like Starlight I came to that realization too.
Stopped playing Outlaws to jump in to Astro and it's the most fun I've had in a long time. The playroom game was a blast and a great intro to the PS5, this is a bigger bader version. I find myself laughing and randomly smiling throughout playing .. and ya... It's hilariously and brutally violent in some of the fights. Plus... There something super satisfying about running and spinning through a pile of leaves, or apples, or any other items in the game and feeling it through the controller. Really just an amazing feel good experience.
I absolutely LOVE this game. I’m still playing it but taking my time because I don’t want it to end. To give you an idea how good, it’s hands down my GOTY. That’s after putting hundreds of hours into Helldivers 2, and FF7 Rebirth which is part 2 of my favorite game of all time. It’s been an amazing year for Sony, even in spite of Concord. My 3 favorite games were all Sony exclusives and I don’t want to hear anyone say gaming is dead and AAA sucks, blah blah blah.
Hopefully with Astro's success, Sony will see the demand for more big budget AAA 3D platformers. I know they aren't exactly the same style, but I'd love to see more Sly Cooper, Jak & Daxter and Ratchet & Clank. That ps2 trinity needs to come back!
I can't recommend this game enough. This is one of the very few PS5 games that actually looks "next gen" (are we still calling it that?) and not just a PS4 port. The graphics, colors, music, gameplay, controller integration. And it's just FUN. I'm 44 years old and have been playing games since ET on the Atari, and this game just puts a smile on my face. It's FUN and reminds me of why I fell in love with video games in the first place
I knew it would be good but, it really has exceeded my expectations. I mean, early on you fight that octopus boss and it's just epic. I genuinely haven't felt like this about a game in so long. I never thought a platformer on playstation could match a Mario game but this game, outshines them all.
Seen an interview where the devs were talking about how hiring people that actually cared about games making a difference, and it won me over. Figured it was gonna be just a shovelware game, but turns out I'm wrong, and I'm happy to be so. Now I'll be picking it up.
love this game... originally bought it for our kiddos (after we all loved the one that came with PS5), and I have absolutely loved it.. maybe more than them. every aspect is well thought out and its very immersive. hope this is the first in the line of many.
"If you don't like platformers, if you only wanna play games with murder [...]" And there you go, Jake explaining the current mainstream gaming problem and why most kids these days play shooters (yes, looking at you CoD) in just 13 words.
I love cod multiplayer. Straight nostalgia. But as an adult, it’s disheartening to have to buy a new cod every year and never having the time to really progress and the voice chats aren’t the same… last cod I bought was Cold War… I want to play the new one coming out, played the beta, tons of fun… just scared to be heartbroken
I got this last night and thought I'd just 'play a few levels' next thing I know I'd completed the first world, all my household had gone to sleep and I realised I had been whistling along to all the music for hours haha. It's so fun and catchy. It really is special.
Na, I put down monke and played this for a break in getting my ass whipped....and haven't went back. Pretty sure I'ma platinum it and go back to hang with the destined one.
Absolutely adore the game - started it 2 days ago and honestly breaking my 'gaming only on weekends' rule to play a few hrs on the weekdays! Ended up getting back into Playroom on the weekend to finish the DLC and get the extra characters + platinum in preparation for the Astro Bot game Have to say I am pleasantly surprised both at the overwhelming creativity (nothing feels old and so many new mechanics!) as well as the surprising ramping of difficulty for the extra levels (one of the Triangle levels I had to do literally 100 times!!). Really having a blast
Actually listened to fps yesterday and after hearing the interview with the Asobi dude it's obvious why this game is so loved. It was made with passion
One of the craziest throwback bots was Buzz from those ps2 quiz games. I loved playing those with my brother back in the day and it felt like such a deep cut seeing him in this game.
Having you, Lucy and Ralph praise the game so much, made me really want to play it. Since I don't have a ps5 and don't want to spend that amount of money just to play it, I will ask around in my friend group if I can borrow someones ps5, pay for the game play it and this way they'd be able to play it too for free :) Definitely excited to have a go at it and I'm pretty sure I will love it considering everything I have heard so far! Great video Jake!
Game like this will never exist if you don't have a solid foundation and legacy from the past. You could argue that this is just a platformer and only elementary kid will play. But If you are old enough, you will understand the nostalgia it creates. Masterpiece.
I love Super Mario Odyssey. Been waiting for a sequel. Still waiting. As I’ve gotten older, my tastes have changed. My heart has frozen over. But I have been loving Astro Bot. What a joy.
I absolutely loved Astro's Playroom and when this was announced it was wish listed right away. This game was perfect, I've played for 15 Hours and got the Platinum. That last challenge level was soo rewarding when it was finished and each little VIP Bot was such a throwback to when I got the first PS back in the 90s. Like you've mentioned there are some Bots missing but with the "Thank You's" in the credits I'm looking forward to the update later this year with extra bots being added and speed runs :)
@@Alexisj1991 luckily you have a year before gta 6 is supposed to release so maybe the ps5 pro won't be completely sold out everywhere by then and you'll have lots of time to save for accessories and games.
This game just makes me smile watching it and seeing people talk about it. It's finally gonna make me buy a PS5, I've postponed because I'm still fighting the massive backlog on PS4 but I guess this game is a sign! And with the coming PS5 Pro I guess
For those who don't know yet, there is free dlc coming*. And there are a few properties mentioned in the credits that aren't in the game, so they will possibly get bots in the dlc stuff. (*speed runs priority. But possibly challenge levels and other bits)
Sly Cooper bot. Is my favorite. I always get excited seeing Sly in anything. Like how Sucker Punch usually makes a reference to it in most of their games. It just makes me happy and a little sad because i would love for nothing else then to see them continue the story with 5.
I was a little iffy about dropping $60 on a game like this but I recalled the first Astrobot game and decided to go for it. I binged it. I also turned off the motion controls as I'm not really a fan of having to do that, personally... but the game was a lot of fun. It reminded me a lot of oldschool platformer collectathons like Spyro. The game is just playful and embraces the idea of "Fun," and that's what it is. It has high production value and is just a lot of fun to play. my favorite level, I think, is the God of War Ragnarok level. That level is so cool. But what had me dying was the music. There is a bit at the end of the intro of the track where you hear kratos' "Boy" and then the beat drops and I was cackling. totally love that level. I love the nostalgia and all the references, such attention to detail as you mentioned... man it was so great. A few I didn't know as well. One of them I'm really curious about. At first I thought Neir: Automita but the character isn't quite right. It's a female android with a red/pink bow and blonde hair...if you hit her (crash site) she like..charges up and explodes. she is wearing all white. not sure what she is from, driving me nuts. Game is so great though!!!
I don't have a ps5 anymore since i never really played it, but I remember the absolute best thing I played on my ps4 was the astro bot in VR game. I always thought it was crazy that it was locked into VR, so i'm glad to see these guys getting the credit they deserve
I freaking knew I wasn’t the only person who thought the theme sounded like Starlight! Absolutely loving this game and THAT first level that was like THAT is what made this game of the year for me
This game is the Super Mario that PlayStation needed. Astro Bot is perfect and I can see it growing so much. Hopefully we get that Smash Bros style game back too PS AllStar Battle Royale.
I totally agree that its such a shame Sony doesn't capitalize on their previous mascot like brands. I mean it is really cool Sony wants to keep making new characters and new worlds. But it's time to start bringing back older brands into the modern light. And it doesn't always have to be a platformer (though thats still fine). I mean, just imagine a whole new modern spyro game. No more of a collectathon but more story focused with huge exploration and amazing combat. With today's technology a new Spyro game could be the ultimate "I'm a dragon" experience.
I wasn't really going to buy this, only because I'm not really into platformers a whole lot, but with all the positive feedback, I think I'm going to have to pick it up. Sometimes I want to play an RPG for four hours straight, and sometimes I just want a 30-60 minute play session and this game seems to hit that mark.
People often say it's “pure fun” and it really is. There's always something new and cool and the environments are dynamic in tne way Astro interacts with them. I had the same same intention to play it in short bursts with Wukong but it's so addictive I keep coming back to Astrobot for one more world to see what's new.
I’ve always loved playing games but I’ve been depressed for the last 10 years and hardly ever have any joy. I had so much fun playing the Astro Bot game that was included with the PS5. I’ll have to check this out.
I thought the way the skins would work is that if you find a bot in a level, you could wear their costume when you get back to the hub world. That isn't how it ended up working, but I genuinely feel that that was a missed opportunity. You'd get an immediate reward for finding a themed bot and you wouldn't have to arbitrarily unlock a costume shop. Plus the fact that there are so many character skins left on the table. I wanted to dress up as my favorite characters, but instead I had to choose from the small selection that was available
This is exactly what it's supposed to be.. From Bot of War to IQ. I played jumping flash when I was 10.. I have a kid in college now and man this is just pure nostalgia. I loved it the whole way through.
10:50 I would have agreed but after this game, I’m obsessed with Astro lol the cutest damn thing and now iconic. Especially after the ending of the game. Also Saline is in playroom who then gets carried over to Astro Bot
Absolutely adored AstroBot. I'm a massive Uncharted fan, Uncharted 2 is pretty much the game that made me really fall in love with the medium, so it might sound weird but playing that Uncharted hero level and when that music kicked in.. damn.. it got me a bit emotional haha

5:39 - to get Selene you have to unlock her from content they added to Astro's Playroom over the last few months.
i was just about to say the same thing
That’s why he said she “technically” isn’t in it
She is though. She's at the base with the other bots @@luisrosales12
Instantly slapped the like button at the starlight connection 3:52
Ngl I bought a PS5 this year but never went to Astro's Playroom until this game came out and EVERYONE started talking about it... And Holy Sh* it's GREAT!
Thanks Jake and all the FPS cast. 😃
That final missions was one of the coolest things I've ever seen in a game especially since I grew up with PS1 as my first console and been with Playstation ever since. Haven't smiled this much in a game in a while
Ayeee just got home from work and Jake drops a video! That’s what Willis was talking about! Love Astro Bot so much!
Best game I’ve played in a long while, more of this please!
3:27 It doesn’t just kind of sound like the theme, it almost exactly sounds like it. It’s stuck in my head, too.
Literally was trying to think of what the theme song sounded like earlier and was just assuming it was a theme from another PlayStation game and right before you said it sounded like Starlight I came to that realization too.
I wasn’t thinking about it before, but they definitely are distant cousins.
I noticed this way back during the PS5 launch.
I’m so happy this game is taking the gaming world by storm rn.
Why do people hate the controller sounds and feedback? I really enjoy those things.
Seeing the success made me try out Astros playroom and that game suprised me enough to get Astro Bot and it's just so much fun.
Love the videos Jake! Tried space marine 2 because of you and love it!
Really looking forward to picking it up next week (payday) along with Space Marine 2! Gotta support these releases!
I love how much love was put into this game. Amazing 10/10, would 100% again. And I haven’t finished my first run. Lol
This is a game that both I and my kids were really hyped about and really love, which feels like a very unique moment in time in gaming TBH
love this game... originally bought it for our kiddos (after we all loved the one that came with PS5), and I have absolutely loved it.. maybe more than them. every aspect is well thought out and its very immersive. hope this is the first in the line of many.
"If you don't like platformers, if you only wanna play games with murder [...]"
And there you go, Jake explaining the current mainstream gaming problem and why most kids these days play shooters (yes, looking at you CoD) in just 13 words.
@@madfox58 Astrobot has murder though
@@mechanicalmonk2020not like that. Lol
So glad that someone else got the starlight comparison! Thought I was going crazy there for a little bit!
I wish Sony would put out Amiibo style figures based on all these unlockable characters
I was thinking that while I was playing it
I want a sponge Astro after playing that level. I would probably never use it, but it would be pretty sweet.
I was thinking that at the very least they should have some IRL Gachapon so people can collect them.
There's a Astro bot action figure that's being released next year of you're interested.
TELL ME YOU WOULDNT BUY AN ASTROKART WITH TRACKS FROM ALL YOUR FAVOURITE GAMES!
Astrokart. Astrosmash. Astroparty.
I got this last night and thought I'd just 'play a few levels' next thing I know I'd completed the first world, all my household had gone to sleep and I realised I had been whistling along to all the music for hours haha. It's so fun and catchy. It really is special.
Jake I was there from the beginning agreeing with your excitement for a full Astro Bot game. Was a rare pre-order for me.
Na, I put down monke and played this for a break in getting my ass whipped....and haven't went back. Pretty sure I'ma platinum it and go back to hang with the destined one.
It's cathartic since you are the one beating up a monke in Astro hehe.
Did the same
Absolutely adore the game - started it 2 days ago and honestly breaking my 'gaming only on weekends' rule to play a few hrs on the weekdays!
Ended up getting back into Playroom on the weekend to finish the DLC and get the extra characters + platinum in preparation for the Astro Bot game
Have to say I am pleasantly surprised both at the overwhelming creativity (nothing feels old and so many new mechanics!) as well as the surprising ramping of difficulty for the extra levels (one of the Triangle levels I had to do literally 100 times!!). Really having a blast
Actually listened to fps yesterday and after hearing the interview with the Asobi dude it's obvious why this game is so loved. It was made with passion
The best thing about Astro bot
Everything
One of the craziest throwback bots was Buzz from those ps2 quiz games. I loved playing those with my brother back in the day and it felt like such a deep cut seeing him in this game.
Sony next announcement - we heard you, we listened, so we are making 6 multiplayer only astrobot games
Shhh, don’t say silly things! Sony will see ONLY this comment and go for it otherwise
Thanks for that Muse - Starlight inclusion. I was scratching my head for hours trying to figure out what does that music remind me of.
The Dashing Dillo level created a traumatic experience for me. I persisted until I collected the robot though.
I definitely wanna get this alongside GTA 6 when I finally get a PS5.
Are u waiting for ps5 pro?
@@superduper6419 if that's bundled with the GTA 6 release, of course. If not I'd still get it if it's truly a thing
@@Alexisj1991 luckily you have a year before gta 6 is supposed to release so maybe the ps5 pro won't be completely sold out everywhere by then and you'll have lots of time to save for accessories and games.
Jake, Starlight is a wonderful song that I felt with that little Bot soundtrack!
This game just makes me smile watching it and seeing people talk about it. It's finally gonna make me buy a PS5, I've postponed because I'm still fighting the massive backlog on PS4 but I guess this game is a sign! And with the coming PS5 Pro I guess
This, animal well, ff7 rebirth, pacific drive, thank goodness you’re here & shadow of the erdtree have been my favorites so far this year.
I did not make the Muse Starlight connection until you pointed it out and I genuinely gave a hearty laugh when you did so.
Aegis from persona3
This is exactly like astro bot rescue mission from psvr. Just bigger. Amazing
I don't have a ps5 anymore since i never really played it, but I remember the absolute best thing I played on my ps4 was the astro bot in VR game. I always thought it was crazy that it was locked into VR, so i'm glad to see these guys getting the credit they deserve
As a 90s kid who’s babysitter was a PS2, this game has been pure dopamine in a jar 🥹
The starlight comparison is goated. Team Asobi's probably gonna need to address this in court
Jakes hair bouncing around was super immersive
Might get bundled with the ps5 pro when it’s announced tomorrow
So pumped to get around to playing this at some point! It really does look like fun in a way a lot of games lack.
MUSE MENTIONED
I’m sold
I hope whoever made the “splashing sprint” level has their dinner cold in the middle
THAT FKIN LEVEL
The contrast of this and space marine 2 this week is amazing
You're the best Jake Keep On Keepin On
The worst thing about it:
To the beat and splashing sprint
FUCK. THOSE. LEVELS.
I HATE SPLASHING SPRINT
Pure joy to play.
If Jake like it that means it’s a good game
@@Grandtemplar305 but so did IGN which means it's a bad game
Mob Mentality: The Video Game ™
So many references! Seeing an Intelligent Qube bot made me do a triple-take lol
I don’t have a PS5 but this reminds me of those late 90s era games where they were just simple and fun. You knew what you were getting.
I haven't played a game that makes me smile and chuckle more in at least a decade, except maybe the other Astro games.
asobi literally means fun in japanese, and so its so good to see them make a game that sticks to their name, is FUN.
This game was pure joy and the ending legit made me cry 😅
