Nothing unethical about that at all! You no longer needed it so it was returned within the return window. I’m just surprised Xbox got it resolved in 30 days 😂
Ohh man I had the red ring of death so many times. I had to send my Xbox in 4 times. Only to just eventually buy a new one, only for the new one to scratch my oblivion disk so bad I couldn’t resurface it. So I ended up buying oblivion on PC and been on PC ever sense. Good times!
What are you takes on fighting games. You think there is a reason why people don't like to enter in that genre? And why people use to prefer Mortal Kombat when is such a mid FG, when Street Fighter, Tekken and Guilty Gear and others are more cool and enjoyable?
Nice video Jake, wish you did these more often. But here is a question. With the PS5 Pro releasing soon, and rumors of Xbox doing a same type of mid gen refresh, it got me thinking, how much will graphics actually increase in future consoles/games? I don't see any huge graphical leaps anymore and I think we have hit the limit and the future will only be minimal upgrades. What do you think? If we have indeed hit that limit, what would be something future consoles and games could improve upon? The huge deal with PS5/Series X was the loading times. What will be the selling point of PS6/Series X²/Z
As a kid who went PlayStation 1 to 2, and then to Xbox 360, i don’t think we will ever have that big of an “oh sh*t” moment in graphics improving again. I would love to be wrong. Current gen feels if it looks almost the same / slightly better as last gen.
Imo Xbox series X is their pro console so them making a Series X2 would be so dumb for them. The PS5 and Xbox series S/X are very capable for the price. It's still hard to build a PC that'll have similar graphics and performance for under $800 and it won't have a disk drive. That's why I don't think the PS5 pro is a terrible value, it's just not necessary for most PS5 owners to upgrade to for the price. I have almost $1200 in my current PC and games don't look too different than how they look on PS5 and that's comparing 1440p on my PC and 4k on my PS5 so I'm just kinda up in the air about it all. I don't think the PS6 will be $700+ but I could see them launching a digital edition for $599 and maybe $649 with a bundled disk drive attachment.
@@Macky4941 I agree for the price of the pro. I got the Pro because I am a hardware freak 😅 the Xbox leaks did state that they are preparing an all digital mid gen refresh though.

@@Macky4941 i agree with most of what you said but not all. Everyone has a faveourite game and everyone's been asked that question but what game to you is 'old reliable' that game that you just come back to all the time, the comfort game you do a yearly play through of. Love your content Jake. What do you think Bethesda needs to do in order to repair faith in their ability to deliver great games? Is it a change in the formula for quest development? Scaling down map sizes/exploitable areas? Switching to a different engine? Would love your thoughts
Physical games arent made for every game, plus as an example it shouldnt cost someone $1000+ (a bootleg costs 100$ ffs) just to check out Densetsu Sapphire on PC Engine CD for instance, let alone the long list of stuff thatd contribute to experiencing modern franchise continuations or just preserving history, art, etc. Physical games are such a teeny tiny part of games now too, like probly 5-10% of games get physical copies, especially actual hard versions, and many older ones get disc rot or something or get expensive among other things like i mentioned above. Theres great comprehensive videos and discussion elsewhere on YT among other places tho.
On PC I don't think many games exist in a physical form. Even if they do, it's just a code in a box. I don't know any PC gamers who have a disc drive and if they do it's for ripping media or they have a job that requires burning cds. I really push for piracy in a way because if you don't want to pay $500 for some old game from your childhood, and no service is offering it, you pirate it. It's also a form of preservation.
The RRoD solutions were all aimed at superheating the interior to loosen up the solder and then you dropped it to get the pins to connect deeper. Went through it twice.😂
Just the title of this video gave me PTSD (Great video as always btw). But gave me flashbacks of my high school years getting red rings being desperate and wrapping my Xbox with a towel and turning it on because I heard overheating it makes some connections fix (it worked temporarily). I was dedicated to Xbox at the time cause of Halo and I’m in High School what could be better? That’s mostly my rant but reminded me of days where gaming felt so different than my 30s.
What was the first console you ever owned? I would play Mario on my dad’s snes but for my 5th bday I got a N64 with Ocarina of Time. The memory of that will live on with me forever. It started my true path as a gamer.
Question for next Q&A: Sifu is a great game! Maybe developer Sloclap's next game can be called "Sensei" and have Karate instead of Kung Fu. What do you think Jake?
I agree with the video essay guy. I would love to see gameranx take on different ideas like video game evolutions, history, game dives, etc but what you said totally makes sense
I'd admire your passion and love for all things video games. I work in the biz and rounding the corner of 50 years old. While I still love all the new and interesting things happening in games, my excitement levels are definitely not what they used to be and I wish I could recreate that feeling of euphoria I had in the past playing a new game or trying out a brand new console for the first time. Honestly, I think that's why retro gaming is having somewhat of a revival lately. People trying to capture those moments again. I remember when you were talking about Evil West being a throwback to the 360 era and I played that one with my brother recently and get what you're sayin. Maybe it had something to do with the design of older games? They definitely took themselves less seriously.
How do you think a new Freedom Fighters would do now days? I loved the old squad recruiting system they had but maybe bringing it back in a Helldivers co op shooter kinda thing would be worth a try. Thoughts?
I also survived the red ring of death quite late into the lifecycle in 2019 or so with a 360 that I got in 2010! I left it on during a storm because I forgot it since we had to go to a shelter for tornadoes, and I came back and Vanquish was frozen and bugged out and the ring was there, only for a simple off/on to fix it again!
Jake, keep doing what you do, and keep being you. And we will keep coming back because of that. You provide a positive, informed and balanced take on games, and I love that you never lose sight of why we play games - to get immersed and HAVE FUN.
I like those essay type videos but there are journalist who do that in great detail and do it very well. I like this form of Jake's private channel as it scratches that ADHD itch. ❤
Mad respect for Jake. He's not using his Gameranx status to try to "cash in" on ad revenue and BS fluff. Humble and apparently doing it for fun. Why not? Great video. Keep on.
From JRPGS, I highly highly highly highly recommend trying out Shin Megami Tensei, especially with 5 being so accessible. It has, in my opinion, the absolute best turn based combat mechanics I've ever experienced, where grinding is not that effective and your team composition and mindfulness can make a seemingly impossible fight into a cakewalk. And the soundtracks for all of them are absolute bangers too
MS/Xbox was so on it with the RRoD response i sent my modded 360 in with a BURNED GAME in the tray. They sent a working one back with the game in a little sleeve.
I had a near launch Xbox 360, I think I got mine in like Jan/Feb 2006. I got RROD about a year later or so. I got the 3 year warranty from Game Stop, and they took care of me very quickly. It was a time to be alive, that's for sure.
I wrapped mine in a towel and powered it on for whatever time you were supposed to do and it seemed it fix it for months. Well it kept happening , re toweled it, fixed it again. Eventually i sent it back but it kept me gaming for ages.
Do you have a game or game experience that has left a lasting emotional impact? For me, it was a playthrough of Journey with a lone stranger. Spent hours on that beautiful adventure together and never spoke again, but it was something special.
Hi Jake, long time fan here! You often talk about single player / non competitive games. Have you ever gotten deep into playing any games competitively? If so which have you put the most time in? Would love to hear more about this side of your gaming experience :)
Jake, I saw your Time Crisis shirt and it made me think to ask what your experience with arcade games has been like? I recently went to a retro arcade bar that lets you play arcade games like Terminator, Tekken, Mortal Kombat and bunch more for free! It was an incredibly fun and nostalgic experience.
Hey Jake! I’ve recently gotten back into reading again. And was curious if you had any books to recommend? Maybe your favorites? Or even ones you are currently reading that you are enjoying a lot so far? Really been enjoying this channel a lot and hope you’ve been doing well man!
That towel trick to heat up the solder worked a couple times on my xbox 360. Had to send it to Microsoft during my summer vacation from school, longest month ever.
Hey Jake I was wondering if you ever played the Champions of Norrath games for the PlayStation 2? They were some of my favorite games growing up and I’ve literally never heard anyone talk about them ever I love your videos keep up the awesome work you’ve been doing
Hey *Jake* have you seen Digital Foundry's new hands on videos on the PS5 Pro? If so has that convinced you to buy one now?? Now that people can more clearly see the improvements the Pro makes, I've now seen alot more people change their minds on buying it and want one now. Some still are hung up on price, but as Digital Foundry have also said you have to spend considerably _more_ on a PC to even match the PS5 Pro fidelity and performance capability, so i think the value is actually good not bad. I also actually like Sony _not_ including a disc drive as standard. In 2022 about 80% of game sales were digital, would be even higher now in 2024, including a disc drive would only balloon the price unnecessarily like how Xbox One forced Kinect onto launch model buyers who mostly didn't use or even want it. Thankfully Sony have made a neat optional modular disc drive attachment, for those that still use discs or change their mind later and can easily add one to their console. I do still think the plastic stand is over priced, but luckily it isn't needed and if you still wanted one you can just buy Chinese copies online for like 1/5 the price anyways so to me thats the only valid criticism, but that isn't even Pro specific criticism as the PS5 slim model is the same deal and I didn't see anybody complaining about it then 🤷 Anyways thats just my 2c, I'm keen for the PS5 Pro and have already secured my pre order (after 1hr 31min of trying online when it went live). Curious to see if your thoughts have changed. Cheers ✌️
I kid you not, I used to stick a toothpick on the back of my Xbox to fix the Ring of Death and it worked EVERY time. I remember there was some sort of exhaust fan and I had to block it, which is very counterintuitive but that was my solution for many years. It's just amazing how many ways people have dealt with it.
Absolutely love your video Jake. Not sure if you’ve answered this already but what’s your processing when reviewing video games, like how much do you play through the game? Do you take notes while playing? etc. And how do you choose what games to review?
The launch Xbox 360 I had RROD within the first year and the unit MS sent back still works to this day, its not used much now but I fired it up a little over a year ago to play some Condemned 2 since it was never released on PC.
Hey Jake! Long time listener but first time asking a question on here. I'm not sure if you have talked about this on here, but I was curious on what you want next from Halo (specifically the campaign)? Do you think we get a sequel to Halo Infinite or do they take it in a different direction? Just curious what you're overall thoughts on where the franchise is and where you would like to see it go. Keep up the great work man :)
Jake! Love your videos guy! What’s a sequel game you think is better than the original? Only talking second installments. Personally I love Dead Rising 2. The og is great but the second game is one of my favorite games of all time.
Tell us more about your feelings and experience with Dark Cloud! As a kid my brother and I didn’t have a memory card, so we couldn’t save our progress. We convinced our Mum to let us play all day to try and beat it in one go, thinking that getting to Dran was the end. Little did we know how much was left! Got a lot further on PS4 as an adult but never actually finished yet. One day…
Trophies/achievements are such a catch 22. Sometimes they help me get more out of a game I love, sometimes they make me avoid a game entirely and sometimes they make me try something I end up disappointed in and I end up playing it longer than I should.
I ended up having the RROD 4 times, after that and the debacle that was their E3 showing for the Xbox One, I was finished with Microsoft. I did however love collecting achievements, but I’ve since carried that over to collecting trophies, but I’ve also have had every Sony console and was right there at the beginning of Sony making consoles and games.
Q/A : Hey Jake, did you watch Psychodyssey ? The documentary series following the development of Psychonauts 2 ? It's very insightful about the high and lows of one of my favorite studios. I would love to hear your thoughts on that 🙂
My Xbox never had the general system failure red ring of death. My Xbox chugged from winter 2006 to 2014 before it just stopped turning on. I didn’t understand the concept of dust, and I’m surprised it survived or ran that long keeping it on my carpet with over five cats at the time. The Xbox consoles that survived were built like tanks. I also had the white arcade edition
I have no idea how this would happen, but I would love to see you chat with the IGN UK Podcast crew - I just think the conversation would be really fun, and heart warming, idk. Anyway, love you Jake! Thanks for being a cool human and makin these videos for us, xoxo

Huge fan of your work here and would defintely take my time to watch almost everything that u make. U said that u are not deep for video essays, on fridays show u constantly say u are not so smart, but we are huge fans also because u are deep and smart! Keep up the good work for us and be sure to recognize the awesome guy you are through the screen and im sure also on the private life
Hugs from brasil
Sick Time Crisis shirt, spent alot of money at my local bowling alley growing up playing that cabinet lol
Love this style of content you put out. Has a great atmosphere and just seems like a "baldino does fireside chats."
What video game/video game franchise should be made into a show/movie next? I think a frostpunk show could work really well!
Hell yeah I second this.👍🏼
The Order:1886 or Evil West would be awesome as a movie
@@liammullen2144The Order 1886. Hell yes! We need more werewolves!
Snowpiercer was good as a post-apocalyptic snow-bound world story goes. Frostpunk movie could be cool!
Have you been playing shadows of doubt? I love your content by the way you and falcon are the best 👍
Thoughts?
My OG 360 still works, other than the disc tray taking 10 tries to open
It was always rrod or the dang disk tray! 😅
Jake can you make some more videos on tv shows/movies? Maybe your own podcast? Really love your content that you drop!
back in the day I got the RRoD and wrapping it in a towel would actually make it work for a few hours. What a time.
Remember the Red Ring of Death?
Yes! Had the ring and also had my OG Xbox suffer a similar fate. That error soured me on console gaming for years.
Talking about JRPG. I'd love a remake or remaster of Vagrant Story. So good 😊😊😊
Jake, keep doing what you do, and keep being you.
Keep on.
Not a paid mention but Vessis are pretty cool, I live in Vancouver where it rains a lot so very convenient
Thank you jake for keeping us consistenly updated with videos
I had a near launch Xbox 360, I think I got mine in like Jan/Feb 2006. I got RROD about a year later or so. I got the 3 year warranty from Game Stop, and they took care of me very quickly. It was a time to be alive, that's for sure.
Me original Xbox elite is still rocking too 😂
Those ones were "built different" 😅
I only achievement hunt games that really click with me, but there are a lot of games that click with me
for dragon quest, def start with XI or VIII if you haven't played them. easily accessible and gives you a full DQ experience!
I played all the onimushas and loved them. Such a special game for the time period. And yes I know I probably spelled it wrong
Hey Jake!
I’ve recently gotten back into reading again. And was curious if you had any books to recommend? Maybe your favorites? Or even ones you are currently reading that you are enjoying a lot so far?
Really been enjoying this channel a lot and hope you’ve been doing well man!
Ayyye my 2nd question to appear in a video! Thanks fam!
Two quick questions.
1. Why is your hair always so majestic?
2. What’s your favourite pizza?
That towel trick to heat up the solder worked a couple times on my xbox 360. Had to send it to Microsoft during my summer vacation from school, longest month ever.
Favorite Jrpg ever was Blue dragon for the 360
Jake you will always be an instant click when I’m on my RUclips binge
I do still think the plastic stand is over priced, but luckily it isn't needed and if you still wanted one you can just buy Chinese copies online for like 1/5 the price anyways so to me thats the only valid criticism, but that isn't even Pro specific criticism as the PS5 slim model is the same deal and I didn't see anybody complaining about it then 🤷
Anyways thats just my 2c, I'm keen for the PS5 Pro and have already secured my pre order (after 1hr 31min of trying online when it went live).
I got RRD on two different systems. One of them was sent by MS as a replacement for the first, IIRC. Good times.😊
Absolutely love your video Jake. Not sure if you’ve answered this already but what’s your processing when reviewing video games, like how much do you play through the game? Do you take notes while playing? etc. And how do you choose what games to review?
I never had an issue with my 360 Slim, it's still going strong when I get it out now and again for Rock Band 3.
Really excited to hear your opinion on Sea of Stars. It was my personal GOTY last year.
Oh Jake oh Jake! What is your favorite FPS franchise and why?
Jake! Love your videos guy!
What’s a sequel game you think is better than the original? Only talking second installments.
Personally I love Dead Rising 2. The og is great but the second game is one of my favorite games of all time.
I for one love to eat Jake Baldino videos while I watch my lunch
Ngl seeing the Xbox 360 in the thumbnail is kinda nostalgic
Jake you should definitely try and find the time to play Sea Of Stars. I loved it. It’s charming AF. There’s a big update to it coming November 12th. Perfect time to experience it. 👍🏻
A refreshing video. I enjoy these videos because it feels like you're sitting right in front of me answering questions. it's very personal and chill. I like it.
Also, lm dreading the Yakuza show. I'm a superfan. I have beyond too much investment in the series. And just seeing the trailer made my heart sink. At this point, I just hope it's an entertaining show. I'm not even gonna try to compare it to the source material. Would love to end up being wrong and the show is great.
Would definitely be interested in your other game and movie content on this or another channel!
By the time the next one happens, really curious to your take on the Penguin and Rings of Power.
My fat PS3 died from Yellow Light Of Death had to open it like a surgeon to get my og MW2 disc out of it 😢
Lmao mine got that from having to install mgs4 multiplayer it took like 2-3 days to download then died 😂
No wonder it died. You put in a CoD disc. Thats like putting shit in your microwave.
Yes…..I absolutely hate CoD.
I was also there to play the original CoD 1 and 2.
Lol the install times were wild@@ActNasty5
@@JM-pm1yb I liked Medal of Honour better on PS1 lol
Fellow ylod survivor, still remember getting infamous (and maybe another) free game from Sony when they shipped it back
