    Finally! i have spent 4 years trying to find helpful information for fused ankles and types of footwear available. The availability of this information is scarce at best. It is almost as if people with fused ankles are required to live the rest of their lives being inactive or in pain. At least i know now what to look for in hiking boots and walking shoes. Now I just need to find some affordable quality brands.

    HOKA ONE BONDi 7 works for me when going for long walks. I am 58 years old, and I had my left ankle fused back in 2010. Now, fitness is very important for anything you do after you get your ankle fused.

    Hi, This is such a great resource for ankle fusion, because as others have said, good information is very scarce at best. I had my ankle fused (TT) May 23. I have been back to work for a month, half days, Monday to Friday. I work as a Porter at a hospital, and I walk all day and even at half days, Im at around 17k steps.
    Im having some difficulty even at 4 hours. My issues are not with the fused ankle but foot pain. Through some research before returning, I knew rocker sole shoes would be my best option. I bought New Balance X More v4, found them way to cushioned. I then tried the 1080, as they felt less cushioned and felt better on my ankle. I also tried a Brooks Glycerine, as they were my go to before fusion.
    I was thinking about MBTs on the last week or so and stumbled this and another channel. Going to have to try them, but with prices being so high, and having already bought 3 pairs, Im hesitant. Also not seeing a wide option, so hoping i see some.
    As I continue researching Is there a model(s) that I should take a look at in your opinion?Also looking for medium cushion.
    Thanks for posting this!

      The MBT Sport 4 is a wider fitting option. If you're in the US, see if you can find a shop that stocks them so that you can try them before you buy.

    Looking for suggestions on which shoe to try . I am in walking boot after having ankle fused and 1st metatarsal bone fused. I am getting close to moving to an ankle brace which will be worn inside my tennis shoe.

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  7 месяцев назад

      Does the fusion still allow for up and down ankle movement, or is that restricted? How about the first metatarsal, where was that fused, at the base or was the 1st metatarsophalangeal joint fused?

    Hi-67 yr old female 4 months out from left triple arthrodesis along with PTT repair and Achilles tendon lengthening. Along with 6 weeks out from laminectomy surgery, I am gradually walking more. I know both will take quite some time to heal fully, but my present athletic shoes aren’t cutting it. Any suggestions for shoes that will address all three issues? Atheletic, casual, dress, sandals? I was very active before these debilitating issues developed. Thanks in advance for your help.

      You may like the Joya shoes, but you may want to add arch support for additional stability

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  11 месяцев назад +1

      MBT shoes may also be comfortable, but they may be too laterally unstable. However, they do have some more stable options. Kybun is another alternative. These three options provide good shock absorption.

      @@leeniegreenie6935 I have seen some styles of this brand in the past, but not sure if they have added more cushioning to them lately. According to their web site they have some cushion heels, but I don't believe they have any heel to toe rocker options. Alternative options would be the Alegria Rock n Roll collection.

    For my ankle fusion soft HEELS make my knee hyperextend. Bad, bad, bad. I have a rod up through bottom of heel so I have a lot of heel pain. I've tried so many different sneakers I'm so depressed cuz I can't walk. And I also definitely need orthodox in every shoe I try. This is crazy. The doctors never tell you what it's going to be like not to be able to move your foot at all ever again. I should have had it amputated!

      You may want to try the Alegria Rok n Roll: www.alegriashoeshop.com/Alegria-Shoes-Women-Nursing-Shoes-s/585.htm. Heel to toe rocker without the cushioned heels.

      It may take the foot 3 to 6 months to heal from surgery. However, you should be able to move from a boot cast to a shoe shortly. Be sure to check with your doctor as they will be able to confirm that your foot is ready for the transition.

    I would think a soft cushion shoe would be bad for ankle arthritis because it would allow excessive uncontrolled motion of the ankle joints?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Год назад

      Depends on if the ankle is fused or not.

    My ankle was fused at the age of 17. I’m 50. Are there ladies shoe brands that aren’t athletic shoes?

    • @FootGeekzTV
      @FootGeekzTV  Год назад +1

      MBT has some non athletic options. Portofino also makes a few forefoot rocker shoes with leather uppers. Alegria has the Rock N Roll styles now. However, these usually are a bit more on the casual side.

      You could have them modified to mimic a rocker sole profile, but it will change the look and doesn't always function the same. It's not that you can't wear regular shoes, but wearing regular shoes may affect your walking gait and may lead to pressure spots on the feet or pain in the knees, hips or lower back. If you're not very active you may not experience any complications or discomfort while wearing regular shoes.
