I love everything about this rundown. This is what Web 2.0 was meant to be. The average RUclipsr would have just done all of this in talking head sections. Your presentation is informative, full of personality and aesthetically very pleasing. More please 🙃
Thanks so much Silvio!! I will go to great lengths to avoid capturing my physical awkwardness talking at a camera lol Definitely want to work in more things like this format in the future!
Okay i’m only like 2 minutes in and already this is perhaps the absolute best framing for a pedalboard build video i’ve ever seen!!! Megan L is the best to ever do it, as i’ve been saying ❤️🤘🏼
This has got to be one of the best and most in-depth rundowns of a board I've seen a long time. Really enjoyed the thorough considerations in every category. I leave this video inspired and ready to re-think my own board in a more comprehensive way - thank you! Uh, worse, however, is all the cool pedals that I now know I need in my collection. Looks like I'm going to be broke for all of 2025! 😅
@@MeganL Because of this video, I've just bought a old BD-2 that had been sitting at some guy's attic for 10 yearw. At 40$ it was too cheap for me not to try it out and I'm loving it so far, whilst running out of space on my board. If I continue with this luck, well, 2025 may not be as broke as first expected. Eyeing a Reverberation Machine next! 🧐 Again, thanks for the great, inspiring video! 😁
This is an absolute masterclass in putting a board together. Add to that your extensively creative apparently effortless approach to finding riffs and parts that are distinct and yet gel together makes one hell of a video. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
No not kind at all - just true. You clearly know what sounds you want and what you need to get them and when you’ve got them you’ve got the chops to make great sounding music. Bravo.
Many thanks for the extended discussion of all the contenders. This is incredibly helpful not just as an individual pedal review but as a look at good sound design. And...great use of the Wilhelm scream!
Really like this content. In a gear market that offers so many choices it is really interesting to see why folks would choose a specific pedal. Wish I could get in depth info like this form my fave guitarists.
Good idea to narrow down your tools, just to the essentials so you can work on making music without gear distraction. If you love the sound of the original Roland RE-201 Space Echo, you owe it to yourself to try the Strymon Volante. It's modulation and textural sound is absolutely glorious. It's like a real RE-201 evolved for the future. I've had both Boss pedals that try to emulate the RE-201. The RE-20 gets the texture and repeats sounding closer than the new RE-202, but neither sound like the original tape unit, but the Volante is close, and pure magic, if you can justify the extra cost. Instant Lo-Fi Junkie and the Shallow Water are "never sell" pedals pour moi.
Really awesome rundown! Clear purpose, reasoning; a pedal name comes first, then explanation and elaboration, that's handy and easy to follow. Nice video! ^_^
great video. love the format, and the editing. lots of great opinion and info, and you covered a ton of ground. and you included the necessary sounds for what you finally chose for each. and, of course, your music and playing are really great...always a refreshing change from gear videos that can't seem to feature anything but garbage blues/john mayer obsessed playing. thank you. your channel is woefully undersubscribed. you deserve way more recognition. that pedal show needs to have you as a guest, and let you benefit from their visibility. and as an extra point of encouragement, i would have happily watched the 2.5 version of this video where you played through each pedal as a comparison.
I love listening to people talk about pedals and this was an original way to go about it (I'll have to look in to the Holy Island Tides, for sure). And the tune at the end is killer! Instant Subscribe : )
I'll echo everyone else and say this was an epic rundown, Meg! Really enjoyed it. 👍🏼 Although, watching you choose a compressor over the Particle physically hurt me. 😜 I really need to make another board...
Huge fan of the format and graphics on this one. Really insightful and engaging. I'd never thought about it until seeing this now, but putting the tuner in the middle of the board and the phaser between drives makes so much sense. (side note: i recently went through a similar process when trying to fit an HX Effects on my board and boy is it an undertaking. my pedal playground looks insane)
This is such a fun and well-done video! Chill vibes, cool editing, and I resonate with how you approach choosing a pedal per category. Glad I stumbled onto your channel!
As a fellow BD-2 enjoyer, the pedal that removed it from my board was Hudson Broadcast. While not quite the same, it has a similar, "grainy" way that it breaks up, it isn't quite as bright, the low cut helps the drives stacked with it sound good + the high gain side doubles as a fuzz.
I really liked the broadcast too! Would love to pick one up again. I remember it got a little more compressed than I liked to replace the BD-2 but man they stacked together so great!
@@someduder5786 The DLX feels like it's more "blues driver inspired" rather than a blues driver copy with EQ controls if that makes sense? The DLX has some extra sauce in the mid-high gain range that I think flat out surpasses the BD-2 when set similarly. There's overlap for sure but the DLX has a sharper character overall which is what I think makes it a standout for higher gain.
Excellent rundown of your rig. I love the position of the tuner because I do something similar for the reasons you mentioned. Raises a lot of questions from people though 😅
First of all, great song! Really love the intro and then the sound you get at right about 0:35 in - so good!! Really enjoyed the pedal rundown and logic behind everything. I might need to get that about 900 fuzz pedal - i just really love the look of it (i know - its the perfect reason to buy a pedal lol) and would like to try a different fuzz for fun. Also, when i saw your tuner in the middle of your chain, i was like what? but the troubleshooting aspect is genius - i might have to do that! Anyway - great stuff! thanks 🙂
Sounds like a solid board! I often run a variation of a Ghost Echo, Space Echo, and lately either an Super Overdrive or a SD9 Super Distortion. For Fuzz I like Russian Big Muff or the Boss HM2 model on my HX effects. Great to see your setup! I'm subscribed for sure ❤
Brilliant run down. EAE Dagger is a great distortion: lo-fi saturation with EQ. By the way, your Alexander flanger demo with the Cure ( just like Heaven) was inspiring. Thanks
Thinking about picking up an EAE Dagger V2. Your description at the end of the Flavor section really sold me. I think stacking the Dagger with light-mid overdrive from my Limelight V2 will be so nice. I see they’re not to bad on Reverb right now too.
I came to comment on the tuner placement... but I see everyone beat me to it. I always put mine up front and never thought about it. What a great idea.
Really fun video, and awesome tones in the song. Would really love to hear a rundown of the pedals not in a song and without overdubs to how hear clearly how the pedals work together. Anyway, i learned about some new pedals to check out!
Nice video and nice jam song. The only thing I would point out is that by filling up the entire board that turning pedals on or off on the fly might be difficult as you may turn a pedal on but you might turn the pedal off next to it. Sound wise you definitely have a great Indie and Shoegaze tone going for you. Over the Pandemic I put together a "Do Everything" Pedal Board and I have 13 pedals on my board. I had to go with a Gator Extra Large Board because I needed the real estate not only for pedals but also for some distance since the board is meant for playing live and I have a Men's Size 12 shoe. I am able to get the Indie, Shoegaze, and Dream Pop sounds I wanted as well as Punk, Psychobilly, Rockabilly, Surf, Ska, and Alternative Country I was wanting too (the good news is that sound wise there is a lot of overlap effects wise). In addition to my Main Pedal Board I have two others, a Budget Garage Rock board I built on a Skateboard deck, and my OG Punk, Rockabilly, and Psychobilly board from 21 years ago. I will say that we do not have any overlap on pedals so all my boards use different pedals than what you showed (I also like checking out the ones you decided). With the pedals you are not using you can create Mini Pedal Boards where you have strange sounds that your Main Board will not easily do. My next project will be a Doomgaze board with pedals that are not on my Main Board and that I do not currently own. I love talking music and pedals so bug me if you want more details.😉👍✨
Great vid. I love the format and editing. You could've sprinkled in a bit more playing throughout maybe? Like when you were down to two choices in each category, have a shootout to decide 😂 Great playing and that jag is killer.👍

Tuner placement blew my mind
I love how this video was put together and edited, really nice work
Thank you that means so much!
my chest was in pain everytime you threw a pedal lol cool video!

This is how every pedalboard rundown should be! I really dig explaining the choices with the lists on the left side.
That hollow body Jaguar is awesome. 🤩
i’ve never heard of putting the tuner in the middle of the chain to diagnose. brilliant idea i will steal ty
the middle finger push away was classic

Been following you for years. Love this newer style.
Thank you! Gonna try and cook up some more ideas in this format :)
It was great to justify using your standards and hearing specific reasons for pedals is ao refreshing
16:52 got one of the hardest laughs I've done in a LONG time, I wasn't prepared for it. great rundown!!
Subscribed. I've never had this much fun watching a rig video.

Best guitar effects channel on RUclips! And I follow the so-called “big ones”. It really helps that you are making original music that ROCKS
