Gear: Fender thinline jaguar, Vox ac15
Pedals: Caroline shigeharu, Champion Leccy the skitter, EHX bad stone, Boss BD-2, Fairfield accountant, TC polytune2, EQD sea machine, EAE halberd prototype, Boss RE-20, EQD ghost echo - all powered with a Truetone 1 Spot CS6 mounted under the board!
Very cool. Love that Shigeharu and Sea Machine together!
It’d be fun to see another one of these for the current state of the board in 2024.
That bound, hollow body Jaguar is incredible. Amazing song. Amazing video. Bravo.
Sea machine and re-20 are sooooo underrated. Two of the best pedals out there
8:30 is pure magic. Sent me running for my board to dial in something similar. Always appreciate the cool sounds you wring out of your board.
This is so great. That Caroline Co. fuzz sounds incredible.
Listen, I'm a guitarist but I don't know a lot about technical stuff, but I appreciate that you have that instinct to hit certain tones or that idk, oomph. Like when you take a long shower or have hot soup on a rainy day. Just very happy with what you are able to express, not just musically but also are able to kind of have a map for us who need to know about the technical things
That Shigeharu/ Skitter combo is mint! I love your base tone too, Jaguar into Vox is my favourite.
The skitter is pulling so much weight on this board, it's been fantastic! I feel like I love jags much more overall, but I'm ever so slightly partial to the vox + jazzmaster combo, shh it's a secret tho ;)
Your channel is criminally under-viewed. Love your style.
Enjoyed the deep dive on your pedalboard! Good job.
The rig looks great; love the song!
Thank you! I love how you mix dirt and modulation before and after each other! Cheers!🎸
Love your channel! Some great sounds and the way you combine pedals is really inspiring
This is a great rundown! Really like this board you put together
Awesome, thanks for doing this! I really need to get a Bad Stone.
Seriously. That's the phase sounds I've been desiring and I've been looking everywhere but there.
The bad stone is so fun, and unique! Didn't go over it in the video but the manual mode on it is pretty useful too. Only thing I wish is that it had an expression input so you could sweep it yourself!
Great playing! Great tones as well
Very cool seeing your tone palette and hearing how you layer and blend textures. EAE Halberd v2 sounds gnarly. Love the jam!
Your channel RULZ. You have impeccable tone and taste. Spreading the word. Thank you for your amazing in-depth comparisons!
Aw thank you so much for the kind words! That means a lot
The way you explain each of your pedal and what it does for your sound is just great! I totally relate to your experience to settle with certain pedals and gain more experience with them instead of constantly try new gear. Also, your pedal board inspires me to try out non-standard pedal orders. Thanks so much for all of that. Also, because of your recommendations I got the Ghost Echo and are very happy with it ;-)
Awesome video, Megan. Love the board and your creative arrangements highlighting each pedal and combo. As difficult as it may be to find the right words, your descriptions of each pedal’s contribution to your sound was spot on and easy to understand. Thanks for posting!
Thank you for such a kind comment! Glad it was easy to understand haha. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch :)
I wouldn't have thought to put the pedals in the order you have them, so it was a treat to see how and why your chain is in the order it is. Thanks for sharing!
Oh the jam was so beautiful. All my fav 80s Manchester bands rolled into one. BTW.... The new EAE IS FIRE!!!!
What do you use for drums?
@@bpsychoz thank you! I use the drum loops in garageband and tweak them 'til it kinda sounds like what I hear in my head
Damn well done. You got something really great going with the new Halberd. I'm fingers crossed!! on getting that soon. Thanks for the inspiration and explanation of all your gear. I think your sense of rhythm is solid and a great perhaps under appreciated element of your channel.
Thank you!! That means a ton :D
I too have a Shigeharu and pretty much did the same thing with it, had it last of multiple drives for massive dirt tones but then put it earlier as a low gain texture as well and love it there. Pretty close to the same settings....it’s not a common pedal from what I see so pretty funny I see this just after changing some things around...great vid!
Heavy psych sooo good. That Halberd tone 🔥 🔥
Amazing video Megan! I'm way excited about that Halberd V2, it's sounding incredible. This is such a great board, and that jam at the end rules!
Thanks Brendan!! I’m REALLY looking forward to a rundown from you if/when you decide to do one haha.
I love, love, love the Skitter! Wooly is a mad, Geordie genius!
So nice… now I enter dreamland… thank you so much for sharing! ✨
Great Channel, digging the content and jams 👌
If anything, this wasn't long enough. 😎👌
That Halberd sounds awesome! Really loved the sound of it stacked with the Shigeharu. Although I think my favourite combo was the Shigeharu -> Bad Stone -> Ghost Echo. That was absolute *heaven!* I really need to use fuzz with phaser more often...
You’re use of the Shigeharu is so interesting!!
Fab - really enjoy your vids. 🤘
Like the board, love the jam!
Gassing for a Skitter now...my wife thanks you, Megan haha
I always love a good pedalboard rundown! Nice board!
Interesting to hear about the new version of the Halberd. I'm also fan of low output pickups so it's perfect for me
So many great sounds and combinations in this video. I'm going to be busy emulating them with my rig
cool as anything ever
I absolutely love everyone of your demos! Regardless of what you keep on your board the demos you do are some of the best! See a lot of people talking about EAE! Not o it is that one of my favorite companies, and he is a really fkn cool guy, but my new Longsword is really the best thing I’ve ever had! Rose gold too… Anything EAE is just plain sick! The only other dream of mine is to own a skitter. That will happen sooner than later I hope. Gonna get a BMRI EVT and a skitter too. Feel like they’re both different but…. Love your playing, composition, and demos! The more you do the more I learn and keep to refer back to
Very cool guitar !
Really great video. Thanks for making and posting. It's funny that you keep fretting about how long the video is going -- if something's interesting, length is just fine!
Your pedal order is really unusual -- I found myself thinking "wait, she put the tuner *where*?" It breaks a lot of the pre-conceived notions about how things should go, and yet it works quite well for you. If you want to talk about why/how you settled on this sequence in your signal chain, I'd love to hear more.
Well thank YOU so much for watching! That means a ton :D I spent a lot of time with these all on the floor figuring out how I wanted to order them in the chain to get unconventional sounds when I wanted them, but also have it function fairly normally most of the time - and I think I've arrived at a pretty good balance! I feel like in this order each pedal has more than one function and kinda turns into a new thing depending on what its stacked with. As for the tuner in the middle of the chain, I use that as a mute/troubleshooting device. So let's say if i have a really washy all out delay+reverb+fuzz+overdrive sound at the end of a song, I can kick on the tuner in that position to mute my guitar and the noise from the dirt pedals but still have the delays and reverb ring out and oscillate while I tune up for the next song. Also it's nice if something on the board isn't working or its not passing signal, a quick check on the tuner will help me narrow down if the problem pedal/cable is before or after the tuner based on if it's reading signal or not. Really handy and has saved me a few headaches!
That’s exactly how I use a “tuna” pedal. Lol. Sweet vid!
Was waiting for this! I think it's pretty cool that your board doesn't change too much, most demoers seem to start theirs over from scratch every week haha.
You go back to this board for familiarity, and that consistency allows me to better gauge the pedal you're actually demoing. It's a win for us both!
Keep shining Megan, love your channel.
P.S. All these years later and the Bad Stone is still one of the best phasers I've ever heard. Top 3 for sure.
Haha watch, now that you said that my board is gonna be completely different next year lol. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and for the nice comment, thank you!
@@MeganL Ha! You could always start a second pedalboard... keep this one in tact as a sort of home base, and then have another for experimentation. A bored board, if you will.
Yeah space echo and ghost echo are 2 of my favs for the obvious extremely different reasons
Love the EBS patch cables. Try their low-profile power cables as well!
Oh, and thanks for the Halberd prototype leak!
Oh dang didn’t know they did power cables as well, gonna have to give that a look! Haha certainly didn’t want an premature leak! I made sure to check in with John at EAE to see if it was ok to show the halberd here and was so happy to get the all clear 😋
Love that jam at the end. Do you release music's a solo artist or part of a band?
Bad Stones are great. I’ve had two. At one time I had a Bad Stone and a Phase 90, but sold them because what I really wanted was a flanger. It’s hard to choose the right modulation. Now all I have is a chinese multi-effect box by the name of ”Coolsound”. Not at all embarrasing as hell.
Ever try a Phase 100? It's probably the most versatile modulation pedal I've ever owned.
Dang, now i really want a Shigeharu and Bad Stone.
And Accountant and Space Echo.
... and Blues Driver... lol
I might just need to make an exact replica of your board for when I want to sound like Megan L.
Hahaha but Cody your sound is already SOOO GOOD. Big fan of what you're doing ;)
I wanted to test drive this board too! Looks and sounds great!
Great breakdown Megan! I have a Jaguar and an AC15 too, but I find I always need to use an attenuator. Any chance you could do a video on how you use the amp?
Are you going for that sorta pushed clean/light drive sound? I love the way the ac15 sounds cranked up but in my room I basically just have it turned up loud enough to barely hear over the noise of the strings haha. Using drive pedals or the compressor to get all the grit. I did swap out one of the preamp tubes for a 5751 for reduced gain and that's helped a bit with volume and better sound at lower levels (at least to my ears lol). Took a picture of my settings if that helps any: i.imgur.com/2l5vtLm.jpg
@@MeganL Thanks for replying. I was running it with a pushed clean for the last couple of years and have been really happy with the tone. I have just started a kind of ambient project that is 90% clean sounds though, so I am looking to use it more like a pedal platform. I thought I would not need the attenuator so I unhooked it and everything was OK until I turned a fuzz on, it sounded so brittle and buzzy. That was why I got the attenuator in the first place, I just used it out of habit and had forgot why! Interesting about the 5751, I tried your settings and my amp is still pretty loud and bright. I think I will try the tube swap. Which location do you have it in if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for your help!
@@GastMusike ooh which fuzz do you have? I find it's pretty picky. There's a DBA fuzz war that's been sitting on top of the amp for a while and there's a reason haha - doesn't sound so awesome through it. Been a while but I think I put the tube in the V1 position. Also my pickups are extremely low output, they have a tough time driving things so I tend to get much less gain/volume out of stuff than when I use other guitars.
Found you on r/guitarpedals
Gonna subscribe
What's your favourite Chorus so far? :-)
Do you notice a volume drop with the Bad Stone at all? I have a late 70s one which sounds amazing, but the volume drop kills it for me.
Just a little but not too bad at all. At least it's never disappeared in a mix when I've switched it on! Having the overdrives and compressor after it definitely helps it along.
Is the board custom? Looks really nice
Thanks! I made it out of an IKEA “hejne” shelf!
Out of curiosity, why the polytune in the middle of the signal chain instead of the beginning or just after the fuzz?
Love the whole board overall though, really rad.
Thank you! I get a lot of questions about my tuner placement every year haha. I'll copy my reply I sent someone else! RE: tuner in the middle, I use that as a mute/troubleshooting device.
@@MeganL Those are both really good reasons for that which my brain wouldn't have thought of 😆
Wait is it rig rundown weekend already?? Crap my board was NOT ready :/
Yeah! It came and went, I nearly missed it haha
@@MeganL i gotta say your DSD inspired tone is spot on tho- iirc from her rig rundown Jess uses a blue sky into a pushed amp usually, but also with her ES-8 I imagine she's swapping things up often. Impossible Weight is my fav record from last year tho and was a huge source of inspiration for my new board.
@@nkozi Ooh I gotta see your board, when are you posting lol - Impossible Weight is so good right?!
I've never seen anybody put a tuner in the middle of their effects chain before. Why did you decide to put it there?
Hey Megan, killer board, sorry if I missed this, but what is the signal chain here, thx!
Signal chain is the order I talk about them haha. With the timestamps it should be easy to find :D
@@MeganL thx, sorry I am a little slow ... lol
@@MeganL thx !!
Are you in bandcamp or any streaming services?
What’s strings ya got
What patch cables are you using?
