- Every superhero or villain has an origin story. We're still not sure where Josh lands on that spectrum (a villainous hero? A heroic villain? The plucky comic relief?), but this is his story. Really, it's our story, because this is the week that we dare to ask the question: "Who is JHS Pedals?"

I find it unsettling that he never really did answer the question about where he was during the Wall Street crash of 1929.
yeah. he said "eternity".
pretty obscuritanist. wooo.
@@zaloo Right on.
There's just no transparency

Less than 2 minutes in, and I'm already convinced. I don't know what I'm convinced of, but I'm convinced
Tred brundy. I’m convinced
I am convinced that you are convinced
I’m not easily convinced but you’ve convinced me that your convinced
At least we’re all on the same page. We’re convinced.
Hmmmmm Convincing
Amazing episode! JHS must put the sound of that tunnel in a "The tunnel" reverb pedal. But it have to be stereo just to us to see Josh demoing it and saying "I don't really care about stereo".
Upvote ^^^
Yes!! Please!!!
this is absolutely necessary!
I’d buy it.
Green Tunnel Reverb
You need to create a pedal that replicate the reverb effect from that tunnel!
JHS TunnelVerb pedal!
Awesome idea
Now I need to find a tunnel to play in.
We’ve had spring, plate, hall, shimmer… and now creepy damp tunnel.
first find a stamp for that
Worked at Fondren Guitars back in the day, had Josh mod my TS9 & DL4. Day 1 fan.
At 73 years of age, you guys have become part of my rock revival. I’m heading down the rabbit hole to choose a stamp to put on my Harmonic Trem. Wishing you heath happiness and continued success. Rob
What a tear jerker! Know what you are good at and get others who do what you suck at.
I was watching RUclips to get info for us new guitar learners. Looking into my first pedal purchase. Analog vs Multi effects......
I come across a few of your videos and immediately subscribed. Since then it's watching you talk about all the history of different pedals, companies. I found a new love for music i never knew was possible. Thank you
Great story and video! Two things: First, behind most entrepreneur success stories (like Josh’s) is a supportive family that believes in the idea and is willing to risk larger financial failure to make it work. It’s always a unique guy or girl who has a wild idea and is driven to do it beyond most normal people. That can’t work without enormous support from loved ones. Second, it was really smart to tell the same story twice. Once on location and the other in the shop. It kept the whole thing really interesting.
The single best video y’all have ever made. It’s so gratifying to see the way a proud small company starts; and everybody can see for themselves that it’s not all gravy and unicorns. Really, really good video production and editing, too, Nick!
Amazing. Such a great homegrown story.
This has become my favorite show within the last month or so of discovering it.
@jhspedals I have a burning question that I cant find an answer to anywhere online, and figured that one of you guys may have the answer to.
Soo here it is:
Does anyone (even viewers) know what the D1 diode in the BOSS DS-1 is responsible for. The one in mine cracked (i assume from a surge.. ?), so i clipped it out completely, which in turn made it into a weird fuzz pedal.
Keep on rocking guys! Y'all are an inspiration to a fella.
The diode D1 is protection against reverse polarity connections, in case the player connects a wrong power adapter.
@@TheChainsofAlice thanks! Gonna replace it and see how my first repair goes. Cheers!
This is a piece of history JHS. I had stopped watching videos cause I was just snowed over with work. But getting back to see this... It was not only funny at times, but also heart-warming. I wish each and every one of you success and prosperity. Warmest regards from Peru.
Thanks very much for this "insight". Love it!
Great video. I got into JHS pedals because of Josh and the videos. My board's sound (The PnP, the PG14, The Luck Cat, The Emperor Penguin, and the Unicorn) is in part defined by JHS.
The pedals work great with my other pedals to help me paint with sound.
Thanks so much. You guy are the nerds I wish I could be. I have good ideas but lack the skills to pursue it. Thanks from Kentucky.
love the look into Josh's personal life, thanks for sharing!
Josh's senior photo is giving off some major Matt Saracen from Friday Night Lights vibes
“They had a bigger shed” (for jhs to move into.) just awesome.
Paused the video at 1 second in (to get a drink) and i ALREADY know from the opening shot this video will be amazing.
i was right.
I own few JHS pedals and I'm proud of "being part of that family", so grounded and full of dreams at the same time... Amazing success story.
What a great story! Just bought a Morning Glory. Have a lot of downtime waiting for my broken ankle to heal and stumbled on your videos. I binge watched for three days 😵💫 I love a good American Dream story, congratulations on your success!
I came to know you guys through the pedal myths video and was hooked right in by the humor. Loyal fan since. Love you guys!
This is great, always appreciate the backstory and insight to your history as people and a company. Great stuff guys. Looking forward to tagging along for whatever is next in your journey
It's good seeing this. Knowing how all of you got started in pedal building.
i know this was a lot of work, but I think it would be awesome for you guys to do this kinda thing with other pedal builders you know
This is great!
Very enjoyable to watch, nice to see how the company is running and how it all started with some school kid growing up on a horse farm.
Dang, this almost made me wanna cry. Great stuff! Such an amazing story. I'm very happy for you and your family.
6:10 This part made me remember how much I miss Radio Shack.
Absolutely wonderful - thank you :)
This was amazing! It makes me love my JHS peddals and yall more.
I enjoyed this a whole lot! Y'all seem like such nice, normal-ish, decent people, which can seem rare in today's world. I love what you see as your future, the education and history stuff, because from what I've seen you're good at it, most specifically with the pedal history. I still have bones to pick with the rock history stuff, but I am available...
I'd love to see y'all tackle KC's cultural history, y'know, the Pendergast era, which produced some of the greatest musicians the world has ever seen. There's also the NLBM. Probably lots of other stuff, though I already know and do not care about the damn fountains.
This was a well made video with a great story. Thanks! I don't own a guitar, play guitar or have any pedals but somehow I've been led to your channel and I'm plowing through lots of your videos. Great job!
I need to go through all my old stuff.. I most likely still have a Caliber demo disk in a spool of burnt discs somewhere..
Nick... it is too weird. Hahaha This show is legendary!
Truly awesome.
Great great show
Congrats on the success on your pedals! Great stuff 👍
I need to grind harder. Thanks for sharing
This brings me hope for the world!
Nice job on this piece
You guys are the most fun
At precisely 24:28 in the video, Josh introduces the word "farticles" into the lexicon of human vocabulary
Great to see more of the backstory!
Pearl Jam 'Ten' album gets the ball rolling. First retail production JHS Mods pedal is SN 10.
There are a lot of great pedals out there and this channel shows some great ones. But when I want a new pedal, it is almost always a JHS pedal. Great pedals for sure, but there is something more with this company. Thanks for sharing this and I hope you are making 200,000/yr soon.
Josh, Mate. Please understand that there is a place in all of our lives for the raw stinkin' schmaltz that comes from someone havin' a dream and it coming true. Mate there just is not enough schmaltz out there. Maybe it needs a song.
I really enjoyed that episode and all the history. I think you guys should make an album love the crazy jams in the demos. It could just be an instrumental album that would be cool.
The 60 Minutes intro was clean😂
❤️ JHS even more today 😆
I still need to send in my old morning glory/Charlie pedal to get work. But I'm afraid you're gunna keep it.
Just when I thought I couldn’t like this company anymore than I do, this video drops. Really cool story all around!
Awesome and fun!
Thanks!
I don't know what a "Farticles" pedal would sound like, but you just created the best word in the English language, and there needs to be a pedal for it
oh man... we talk about farticles at the shop a lot. it's the poopy air that whooshes up from the toilet when you flush.
Good show.
Please make an impulse response of that tunnel!
Lol 1929, the interview for all time. Great content 👍
Great Video!
Josh’s expression at the watergate joke 😂😂
There's no sound of pedals on this clip. But a lot of fun, thank JSH 🎛
The 60 Minutes intro made me laugh.
Good people, Good company
I wanted to do something like you sir. So inspiring ❤️
This is so cool!
Thank you for this moment of history, really appreciated. But where are the bass players, have been part of this world? Addison rebel you !!! No, seriously, I'm always well served when I ask a question about bass. Like the JhS Spliter question I asked this week. Keep up the good jobs guys and girls ! And the tall guys, begin to play bass!
Love it.
JHS? Never heard of them, it appears to be an interesting brand, i might check them out
When can we expect the ‘JHS Lemon Squeezer’ stamped edish? Jimmy Page and Led Zepp I&II in a box! Yellow case. Limited 100 stamped by the original pulp n peel stamp.
So when are we gonna get a JHS reverb pedal that’s based on that tunnel?
jhs is a company that makes pretty good clones.
Why, thank you :)
thats it a delay pedal named THE TUNNEL boom
Now that you’re apart of my family and it’s not totally weird, can you babysit? It’s just while I go get a new JHS pedal and won’t take that long! …I swear.
Are those trees around Josh's childhood home unnaturally short?
Also Josh....I DID have 2 such tunnels in mid/high school in my shitty town 🤣 love y'all
This was awesome -- I had feel good vibes throughout and so inspirational! I agree with others, we need an Alice in Wonderland (many a multi-effects unit) and a Tunnel Reverb :)
I cried. I laughed.
Pink Palace for next pedal name.
Goodness me, young Nic
22:47 proof that Josh is a giant
Mini Morning Glory plz
Tall man discover reverb in cave.
Josh is truly a terrible man. One time I came home from work and Josh stole my girlfriend. Then he married my mother, making him my father. Afterwards my girlfriend then began to mock me, saying she left me for my father, who is now Josh. Then my biological father finally came home from getting milk and cigarettes, and said, "Wow son, I leave you alone for 15 years and you lose your girl AND your mother. I'm ashamed to call you my son." Other than that I really like my Lucky Cat pedal!
IT WOULD BE NICE IF HE ANSWERED THE QUESTION IASKED A FEW WEEKS BACK ABOUT THE CHORUS/REVERB PEDAL AND WHY NOBODY MAKES ONE THERE CERTAINLY IS A MARKET FOR THEM.
it must be something to do with your broken caps lock.
that's my guess.
I am an electrical engineer. I am interested in your pedal idea, contact me and we take it from there
What I really get out of this is that Josh's wife and her family are the heroes that embraced Josh's obsession and gave all sorts of support to help get him from struggling startup to successful company. Maybe take her on a nice vacation away from the cold winter of Kansas City.
As a young (16) pedal builder, youve been my biggest inspiration. When I was 13, I asked my dad if he could buy me some pedals. He told me that i should try to build some myself. Since then Ive built 30-40 pedals and a eurorack synth. When I discovered you and your show I immediatly fell in love. Thank you for everything Josh, youre the person i want to become one day.
That's awesome. Good luck!!
Keep doing what you do, I'm proud of you.
Dude that's so awesome!
Plot twist: your dad is Josh.
30 to 40 pedals on your own?? such a cool story! imagine my disappoint when I went to your channel and discovered only a single upload entitled CUCUMBERS.MP4 🥲
Josh needs to design a reverb pedal around that tunnel. "The Tunnel."
I think "Underpass" would be catchier, nay, more marketable.
“Deep hole” 🫣
"Stink pipe"
"Tunnel Vision"
Where can I buy it?
“Is JHS just a tall man with weird hobbies?”
Yes.
Yes he is. And the world is better off for it
Madman with a box :D
"Or is it darker and more insidious?"
Also Yes?
I love this company…. Bought 3 JHS pedals last year because of watching their show and appreciating how they represent all pedals and the industry…..thanks y’all
Same, but I got the double barrel, so technically 2. 🤪
JHS took over my board. I bought the morning glory v4 and it’s spiraled to adding the lucky cat, unicorn, and supreme fuzz to my board
I got the Angry Driver last year... what a nice pedal.
Me too! 3 series Fuzz and Reverb, and a Kodiak. Plus the show inspired me to buy my first boss pedal ever!
Thank you!!!!
Amazing, inspiring! Thanks for the recap! Glad I got the chance to trade pedals for records back in the day! Still have a giant all JHS pedalboard! Hopefully Josh still has some of the records 🤣
🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
It always starts with a “weird kid” pretty soon they have a factory full of like minded Weird kids making awesome stuff for other weird kids.
Normals scare me with thier milquetoast blank eyes.
Keep it Weird!
I miss radio shack 😖 surfing the digikey website isn’t the same as being able to bring a meter in and test and match all your components in a dirty lil strip mall.
I grew up in Ecru! This is absolutely unbelievable to me. I worked at McCoy’s Grocery on main street for 5 years. Insane that there was a time that Josh was essentially in my back yard. Wild.
Do a documentary about how a bunch of dudes from the super south managed not to have any southern accent or grow up to sound like a bunch of hicks. Being from Texas myself, I thought I was an anomaly to not sound as stupid as all my friends.
I loved everything about this episode! The 60 minutes style opening, the story, the conclusion....everything! It made me incredibly proud to own a few JHS pedals in my pedal arsenal that I am slowly building. I am sure I will buy more JHS Pedals in the near future! I actually felt a little bad because I remember way back in the day that Josh was selling a modded Big Muff, I believe, and I did not have the funds to buy and it sold out before I saved up enough. . I think it was in that period where Josh was overwhelmed and working 18 hours a day in a shed. But I am supporting yall now! :) The one thing I really like about the JHS story is that Josh truly paid his dues and now he is enjoying the fruits of his labor. I mean come on, did Josh ever really think he would be part of the Guiness Book of World Records biggest pedal board or work on a musical about pedals?? And now he has! But what I really loved in this story is Josh acknowledging that JHS is just a name now where he has built an incredible team of individuals to bring JHS to the masses (and not burn himself out). Truly Josh is an American success story! Also I just also want to give a shoutout to Nick and whoever else that produces these videos. I have a background in TV and I can safely say that these videos are some of the best videos on RUclips! Truly a pleasure to watch every time. Also let me just give a shout out to the whole JHS company! Y'all are incredible in what you do day in and day out! I say all this to say, "Long Live, JHS! "
Best thing about Josh is while growing his own business, he has spent time educating musicians about pedal and amp circuits and how each one affects their sound, which is a huge contribution to humanity!
I literally love watching your videos. But this is this best one by far. I love the behind the scenes small detals of how you’ve gotten to be where you are now. From humble beginnings to becoming a major leader in the custom pedal business. You and your JHS family are awesome!! Plus, you’re funny.
I loved this! Please consider doing an episode interviewing Andy Martin, and his importance and contribution to the pedal and gear community/industry.
Agreed. Just in case you are unaware, That Pedal Show had a great Andy episode. Worth the watch.
An Andy episode would be great!
I would love to see a little series with the Josh types of the industry. These are the real MVP’s of the pedal explosion of the last 10 to 20 years.
Andy is an excellent basketball referee.
One of the greatest JHS history videos ever! I absolutely loved this, really makes the show feel so human and connecting. Love the way you guys have stuck it out this far, your now an amazing product/family that can actually connect with customers and individuals that love the interests. I'm hoping to buy a JHS compressor soon, would the JHS 3 series compressor be more more limited if I got that over the PulpNPeel?
I really loved hearing your story Josh! I remember seeing the Tupelo Press picture of you and thinking man this guy is so young! I think everyone in the effect world is so glad you went down the electronics/modification/pedals/business-building rabbit hole! Indeed, you're a multiplicative factor in the effects world, so much more than just the simple assimilation of great branding and awesome sounding pedals.
What I have learned by 3:29:
- this should have been a musical.
- something happened at Josh’s graduation that stopped his ageing.
- Josh is freakishly tall.
Josh told me not to say anything but it's the monkey gland extract...don't tell anybody, okay?
@@hball6695 the secret ingredient in early JHS pedals too huh?
It's the eyebrows, man. People don't realize that it's the eyebrows that make people age. Shave those puppies off.
@@vladv5126 between illicit monkey hormones and eyebrow topiary I’ve been missing out on a lot. Clearly, I have some work to do…
You need to do a show about nick! I had no idea he was so deep in the story of JHS.
For real! This episode made me love Nick so much! Everybody needs a Nick or two in their life.
