Nice catch on the rough cam. I have been using Fluid Film on various parts that are prone to attract grime; seems not to get as gummy. Finally, the best tool in your shop is your calm, positive, can-do attitude. Like that little spring, don't lose it LOL!
Great video Bruce, enjoyed it a lot. My 1 yr old granddaughter ended the life of my laptop with the whack of a spoon, so a month later made it back here. I picked up a disassembled Husqvarna AWD (4x4) push mower this summer for 35 buckerooos that another shop gave up on and I tinkered it back to life, boy does the wife like cutting the lawn with it. take care eh !
Thanks for the shout-out Bruce, and to answer your question, my business cards are 0.012" so slightly over the somewhat standard 0.010" setting many coil armature air gaps are set to, but I've used them many times without issue!
Thanks for the shout out Bruce your next package should arrive shortly i hope. Nice video glad you pointed out the drive gear only goes on one way to work properly. We normally use Liquid Wrench Dry Lub so grass and dirt do not accumulate on the drive system but a light coating of grease should not be a problem. Yes Wayne is the OLD MAN so once again over and out!
Hi Bruce, great way to convince the little wife that you need a new industrial rubber floor mat like at princess auto! Great repair on that Honda I have five of the hr214 models. Best mower in the world!!! Cheers!
Good video Bruce. Everyone I know that has one of these mowers has this problem happen to them, including myself after 1 season of using a new HRN series mower!
Yes Bruce you are a man of many talents. I like the savvy way you swayed your wife not to open the shed to view the Gong Show. There are some things your wife should never see, and one of them is an unorganized area.
Just having everything clean and lubed changes everything, though a job the average owner could not do. And thanks for the huge laugh, did not know you can mow carpet with a Honda. Stevo
I was helping my son cut his yard about a month ago, while trimming with my push mower I sucked up his door mat at the foot of his steps. Instant stop and sheared the key but at least it was a cheap fix. :)
That's why we as a whole respect you Bruce you show your mistakes, and or tell us, which makes you human, just like your fans, keep it up sir, RESPECT.
Usually if a Honda mower can’t be pulled backwards when the drive bale is released the two minute fix is to loosen the drive cable until it does release. It’s rare that there’s a need to clean the gearing.
Hey there Bruce. I always mix up those gears. I have that same rug incident happen at my in-laws fixing their mower, in a hurry and not pay attention close enough
How's she goin'? A lot of fiddling and fusing but you made a nice repair on these ratchet gears. Not so much on your mat though!!! LOL Like always, you treat the machine like it was yours and won't rest until you are 100% satisfied. Thanks for sharing and take care!!!
Good morning my good friend.. just what I wanted a video with my morning coffee.. hey no fair you didn't loose the little spring..mrs p we may or may not need a new RUG lol I just spat my coffee out.. runs better when it not chewing on a rug.. good one Bruce.. Ep are great.. Jake and the old man.. a great team. Stay safe mate
Chronic Honda problem caused by the nylon bushings inside the wheel adjusters drying out. The only fix is to pull the wheels, pinion gears, ratchets, washers and snap rings both outside and inside the deck so that the axle can move side to side, then work new grease (not oil) down into those bushings. It needs redone every 1-2 years even with synthetic grease. If you put it off too long, the axle will rust inside the bushing and grind the bushing out of shape. Definitely a design flaw. I’ve owned Honda HRX mowers for 15 years.
I’ll share some of all the research I’ve gathered , to prepare your mower for tipping shut the gas line off , 2nd is pull your power cord til it gets taunt , this is at the top of the compression stroke , if any gas gets by the carb you won’t get gas in the cylinder to hydra lock it when it’s ready to start . Once you’ve got this arranged you’ll need to pull the air filter , now your ready to flip away . You have to clean the shaft with sandpaper and work off the surface rust , if your plasticwheels are loosened up by shaking them you’ll need plastic bushings , they get knocked out , then new knocked back in , also inspect all spacers , washers , sprockets , Small springs , keys , small dust boots , small transmission dust boots for wear . You can order a complete arrangement of pieces with a new Honda belt and do all this one time , $60 of parts plus shipping . Search Honda mower parts , take a snap shot of your model to assist your search . You’ll get a file to lookup with explodable views of part locations . Very DIY doable , it’s just a mower
On my honda hhr216 is it natural for there to be always resistance pulling it backwards . I bought it used but abit resistance pulling it back. I put oil on either side of the axels and penetrating oil spray bit still the same . So not sure if the amount of resistance is normal .. never had a honday before. Use to how non self propelled mowers roll back easy
LOL. Some mentioned i should have slow motioned it Too bad I missed that. I am opening your envelope today along with Lukes and Turning_Wrenches. Might put the " Micks Christmas " Video in and give that a plug too. Too fun EH !!!
Those gears have a notice on them , a little reference dot on the collar , one gets turned out , the right , the left is riding inside , or take a photo with your phone .
Each of those gears has a small dot on one side. On both sides of the machine, that dot faces to the right. So -- on the left wheel, the dot faces toward the machine, and on the right it faces away. That's all you need to remember.
Well Bruce here. Front wheel drive is easier to turn when you get to the end of the row When you push down on the handle bar-- the back wheels turn without friction. With rear wheel drive it is easier to use in a hilly area when the back tires are needed to dig and push you up the hill. Any body else chime in.
I saw the rug it moved and jumped intot he mower. no worries! you are very lucky with the honda. usually have to pull all the mechanisms off and clean the shaft. sometimes order that new plastic sleeve. PITA job...to the point I want to stop taking them in
Before moving the gears you should have marked the top then you knew which way to put them back on, there is a right way and a wrong way to put these back on . When you took them off camera ,you did not explain why and what you did for the reason I know what you mean but others viewers may not .

Great video and repair Bruce. Hope you and the wife are doing well. Have a great weekend!!

Good video Bruce. Everyone I know that has one of these mowers has this problem happen to them, including myself after 1 season of using a new HRN series mower!
Yes they come in every year.
Another good video. Loved the rug incident!
Like the video said it wasn't staged. I do have to be more careful though.
I'm with ya Bruce when it comes to the Honda drive gear dyslexia. But hey, we have a 50/50 chance. Good job as always.
So true
@@BrucesShop 50/50, so I got no shot.
Well at least when the rug caught up on there it didn't shear the flywheel key LOL great video sir at least the Honda rolls smooth now.
Thanks 👍 It was funny ---- after

Well quite a few of my fellow mower hackers have admitted to sucking up a rug. LOL
What a beautiful my friend! Stay blessed! have a great day
Thank you! You too!
Nice work and video Mr Bruce, that rug looked evil anyways and probably needed to go!! :)
You are right.

LOL!! This guy is hilarious! Nice carpet mow!!! Made me laugh out loud!!
LOL I haven't looked at this video in a while, Thank you for the laugh
Great job ol buddy, you Crack me up. "GONG SHOW" 🤣🤣
Glad you enjoyed it
good video Bruce i find giving the drive a small service when in shop helps from seizing up
Good tip!
I did more after this video of course. Tune up lube etc.
That's why we as a whole respect you Bruce you show your mistakes, and or tell us, which makes you human, just like your fans, keep it up sir, RESPECT.
I appreciate that. I wondered about the carpet thing and leaving it in the video. Thanks

OK
LOL!! I've done the same thing in my shed with a carpet. Came out ok after getting out the razor blade..
You know !!!!
Did you say your shed looks like the Gong Show Bruce? Wonder if Gene the Dancin machine is in there😄
Very good Bruce great video
Thank you kindly
You didn't want that old mat anyway, did you? I'm working on an old Harmony myself. Waiting on parts I should say.

A store called Princess Auto (Candian) Like Harbor Freight

Yes I learned to late. But never too late.
Was this the one that got a new transmission last year?
No. Actually that was a few years ago now. Time fly's eh!!!!
What no slow mo on the carpet getting eaten?
Oops That would have been fun Thanks
The File is your Friend 😊
Roadking
Could they have made that gear spring thing any more complicated
I know. I have become cautious with Honda's these day.
No oil or grease Bruce, Honda specifically says no lubricant of any kind as it creates a attraction to debris ...!
You guys are right.
22:32 that's how you know you're tired
Exactly.

With rear wheel drive it is easier to use in a hilly area when the back tires are needed to dig and push you up the hill.

Didn't take the gears off , worried I would lose something
You and me both.
I was cutting the rug
Down at a place called The Jug
With a girl named Linda Lou
Got it thanks a lot. LOL
Broccoli!!!!😂
Yes that joke belongs to my father in law 30 years ago, he talked about the frozen broccoli looking like the grass under the mower LOL

These seem to be problematic. Sometimes even the rear gear assembly has to be changed $$$$$
Just had the same thing..
It is common.
Nice video Bruce - and you are not alone with "sucking in the carpet" - Lol - done that as well. Have a nice day! Cheers!
Thanks for admitting that Anders.
running over the rug? Not cool, Bruce.
I know
2 am post Eastern instead of 8 am? I don’t get to be first. Lol
2 am I released it at 6 here I think
Thats ok Bruce I didn't like that rug anyways 😆 ( been there done that 😂 ) 🥦🥦🥦 for heavens sake people clean your machine ! Git-R-Done and you did 👍
