    You're correct. Adding the engine oil is definitely a pivotal part in getting the motor running. I'll add an annotation. Thanks for noticing.

    You can tell a good mechanic by the tools they use! Slip joint pliers are not made for hex nuts but a open end or box wrench is! If I saw someone using a per of pliers on my bolts or nuts unless stripped I would come unglued! Been making my living work on motorcycles and doing machine work for 45 plus years!!!!!!!!

    If you pause at 12:47 you will see that this bike does not have clearance between the crank arm and transmission housing, making conventional riding impossible. If you run out of gas or the engine quits, you will be pushing this puppy. It is also a good idea to make certain that oil is present in the crankcase in the correct amount BEFORE adding fuel...

  • @Nehmo
    @Nehmo 7 лет назад +28

    9:22 You can use compressed air to remove the handlebar grips. Stick the end of a tube air nozzle under the grip and blow.

    Yes, it's a 26" Micargi Men's Tahiti. Keep in mind that they recently made a design change where the cranks are designed for forward pedaling which means the crank housing is in front of the seat post instead of underneath it. This makes installation a little more difficult, but still doable.

      What is the right name of a new crank shaft you use on approximately 4:40 in your video?
      Is it threaded 3 ps crank shaft?
      Thank you.

    Hey BikeBerry, could we get a video showing this 4-stroke installed on a typical hard tail mountain bike like a Specialized Rockhopper?
    Also, does installing a motor mean that the front derailleur and 3-speed chainrings can no longer be used?

    • @ELIRAXPRT
      @ELIRAXPRT 6 лет назад

      I would think that motor shelf might get in be way of the derailleur mount. If the crank has to be replaced to allow for the thickness of the engine and mount to clear the sprocket then I see it being a problem

    I bought a 'cruiser' style huffy that's retro style & looks like what you have here. Was wondering about 2 things-1-Where this has "old fashioned" braking (no handle brakes, just pushing back on pedals like on single speed bikes) Was wondering, where this is like that, would I need extra brakes installed to give added stopping power? 2-If I do need extra braking power via extra brakes, this bike seems like it has pretty wide, thick 26 " tires but was wondering if I'd need something thicker to handle wear on tires from braking

    • @thomaswilsonsr.9206
      @thomaswilsonsr.9206 9 лет назад

      +Chris Geoffrey The braking logic you are thinking about is called a coaster brake, on the rear wheel, there is an arm connected to a plate. That is it. It is typically on a clutch, too. You can always add caliper brakes. Those are easy as well. I recommend both kinds of brakes, just in case. It'd suck if you couldn't stop at 45 going down a hill. In an intersection. Also, if you are using a cruiser, you may need to remove the mudguards to apply the caliper brakes.

    • @eventsmorewithchrisg

      +Gage Justice- ok Ty Gage, I'll remember that. I did have a different ?. I have a 49 cc engine Ifrom a 'X-treme 350' style scooter I was thinking of using as the power source for this new huffy of mine. I don't have dinensions of actual motor, but, if you yourself are familiar with those "X-Treme" products, you may've seen what I'm talking about. I think they only hit like 30-35mph anyways, but, again, never having a gas powered bike but being interested enough to maybe create 1, I found this channel. I'm kind of hoping the dimensions work to just mount it the way I've seen others, which usually doesn't include putting on some kind of back carraige just to mount a motor (would be where a basket might go, we'll say, right near the back reflector). Only things now I'd need to get/find out are chain for back tire going into motor (its already compatible it seems with a chain, since that's what drives this x-treme scooter I've had sitting around, the brakes U mentioned, and what I can use the electric battery thats on the scooter for, like, maybe rigging up a front lamp & some kind of turn signals ( was an udea I mentally was playing with, trying to make the finished product more safe if I drive it @ night, bike is pretty dark in color on its own). Once I get started, I may do youtube of it since I have a channel

    • @eventsmorewithchrisg
      @eventsmorewithchrisg 9 лет назад

      +Gage Justice-P.S. even though U don't really talk about it here, Thank God for the nice, thick seat thats on this huffy cruiser bike!! I never liked the other type of seats. The one on the bike in this video has one I'd eventually find uncomfortable. I can't think of style names for seats except "banana". The one I have is wgat one'd find on a "crusher" style bike

    • @thomaswilsonsr.9206
      @thomaswilsonsr.9206 9 лет назад

      Chris Geoffrey Yes, the wide ones are the best. I am not too sure of the names of the specifics, but I do know what you're talking about. Huffy is pretty good - heavy as hell, but the nuts, bolts, clamps and gear joints are pretty much all the same size: 16mm or 10mm. It's crazy helpful. The mudguards are also a HUGE plus, especially after a rainy day.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  9 лет назад

      Kevin Ward During the break-in period, the engine does run a little rough. After the break-in period, it should get easier and easier to start. Keep playing with your carburetor jet spin to adjust your idle RPM. Check out this video: ruclips.net/video/XAaKSII_vbo/видео.html

    • @bikeberry

      Kevin Ward There is a choke! It's the small toggle lever near the air filter. At the top position, the choke is completely closed. At the bottom position it is completely open. You can it to be about 15% open when doing a cold start. After the engine is warmed up, then open it to about 75% open.

    • @zsfabricating
      @zsfabricating 9 лет назад

      +Anthony Storey you might need to add a spring where the throttle cable connects to the carb to keep the bike from idling higher.

    • @L3AP2020
      @L3AP2020 9 лет назад

      +Anthony Storey The carb has a small screw that regulates the idle speed, so try reducing the idle speed (You'll need to have the engine turned on to verifiy that it won't move) If this doesn't work, you might want to put in a centrifugal clutch between the engine and the shaft that drives the wheels, which will keep the wheels stopped when on idle or low speed, and with the sole speed of the flywheel, the clutch engages and wheels spin

    • @anthonystorey1333
      @anthonystorey1333 9 лет назад +1

    I like the 4 stroke, I bet it doesn't die when stopped for a while. I have an 80cc 2 stroke and it has a tendency to die if im stopped at a light. Then I have to peddle through the intersection and then I can use the throttle. I am still breaking it in but I dont think itll ever stop dying after being stopped for awhile. Does any know if it will change after the breakin period?

    • @L3AP2020
      @L3AP2020 9 лет назад

      +Cassie G You might have to play around with the carb's idle speed, so try winding or unwinding the limit screw that stops the regulator valve. A 4 stroke will give you a lot less power output because of how its been designed since forever (Contains heavy counterweights, that have to be there so the engine doesn't stop when its not on the ignition stroke, so those will steal quite some power). If the problem persists, you may be locking down the engine when the wheels are stopped, on which i would recommend you to install a centrifugal clutch, in between the wheel's gear and the engine's power output gear, and this clutch will do, is that it won't engage the engine on low revs, and when climbing up engine rpm, clutch engages and the wheel will start spinning

  • @LizardAhaz

    On a Huffy beach cruiser you are better off using only the back rubber grommet because the front one will push the sprocket out too far making it difficult to align everything. Just be sure to remove the bearing dust cover and cut the lip so you can flatten it out over the top of the sprocket. Other than that the stock 40 tooth fits perfectly and you do NOT have to bend the brake arm.

    Starts with a coaster brake on the rear wheel, no brake on the front wheel, ends with hand brakes on both wheels.

    when i drop the clutch when riding i get this popping feling while riding. when i release the clutch the feeling goes away and the engine sounds fine. the popping does not occur while riding with the clutch disengaged. what could this be?

    • @bikeberrycom6539
      @bikeberrycom6539 11 лет назад

      Is this regarding a 2-stroke engine? The 4-stroke is a centrifugal clutch, so you don't have to pop it in. If you're talking about the 2-stroke, careful when popping your clutch. The torque tends to stress the small bevel wheel and with enough force from a harsh clutch release, it can cause hairline fractures on the small bevel wheel. I recommend opening up the clutch case cover (The tear drop case cover) and checking for any particular damage or obstruction within the gear and clutch. Also check for any metal grindings because a harsh clutch engagement can cause undesired realignment with the two gears in the clutch cover. Hope this helps!

    Here's a suggestion. Before the installation, you should show us how to troubleshoot any problems we might encounter. I just received my first 49cc 4 stroke engine, and there's a problem with the throttle. There's no tension in the throttle spring. How do I fix that? I need an answer fast. Thanks.

      Oh, another thing. After installation, take the bike for a test run so viwers can see the bike in action.

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 лет назад

      It would make no sense for troubleshooting to be at the beginning of an installation video considering many are there for the installation not troubleshooting. We have a few troubleshooting videos and are currently working on more. You can always call our customer service team for help at any time. (800)317-0479.... We just got a super cool drone so we will certainly be getting more riding footage in the future.

      @@bikeberry So, you install the engine first, then have to remove it just to show how to fix certain problems? I'm having to use a rubber washer for my throttle because the throttle spring is bad. Plus, I had to cut the choke switch in half so I could put the engine on my bike. I still have to remove it to readjust it. The chain is jumping the rear sprocket. Plus, my air filter is leaking gas and oil. If you can help me with that, I'd greatly appreciate it. Like I said, this is my first 4 stroke engine.

      @@UrielB86 Yes that is generally how install videos work. If you purchased your 4 stroke from us we have a full team of specialist here to help at anytime. Give us a call or visit our website and web chat with us (800)317-0479

      @@bikeberry That's the thing. I purchased the engine from EBay. I just put gas and oil in and started it. It leaks oil from the air filter, and I just noticed that it's not idling. I have no idea what to do.

      +Raishon Bodrick The reason why it is poorly rated is because people who don't do research buy it, and then complain that it won't fit.

    My 4 stroke clutch engages way too late and it always slips when i apply throttle so acceleration is practically non existent and it's so bad that my bike isn't usable at the moment.
    I think my clutch springs are too stiff, is there anything i can do?

    You mentioned a 26" bike. Is the 26" the tire diameter or some other measurement?

    • @bikeberry
      @bikeberry  6 лет назад +1

      You are correct, it is referring to the tire size but is a common and widely accepted reference for bike size. Many beach cruisers and mountain bikes have a single "universal" size, leading to any scaling in size also affecting the tire size, which leads to the acceptance of using the tire dimensions for a bikes size.

      Not on the stock mount the 4-stroke 48cc comes with, but I believe it can for the Heavy Duty Mount: www.bikeberry.com/engine-kit-parts/4-stroke-parts/heavy-duty-4-stroke-mount-plate.html
      We are currently out of stock of it though. It should be available again in the next 1-2 weeks.
