You’re a life saver man!! Spent $60 on a new ignition lock cylinder. Returning that tomorrow. Was able to get the switch off without breaking the tabs as well. Dumped 70% isopropyl alcohol into the switch after a few minutes of mashing the button it cleaned the contacts enough to where I got the clicky click every time as well!!
This video was a HUGE help and saved me a fortune by not having to pay a mechanic to do this! That said, there are some finer points that should be mentioned. I bought the part for $8.59 on ebay (Micro Switch D2HW-BL251H). You disassemble the console as portrayed in this video, BUT it's A LOT easier if you also partially pull off the side panels on both sides (alongside each seat and the console)- they snap out with tabs. From the passenger side, you'll see a silver bolt that holds a plastic block up against the switch. Loosen that with a Phillips head screwdriver. The switch is held in place by two plastic tabs on the right (mine were painted a fluorescent orange). Take a photo of how the switch is installed. Once you have the switch out, take a photo of how the two wires are oriented. There are three tabs but only two wires. They are soldered on. Cut them off and strip off some wire sheathing. I'm not good a soldering but I watched several videos here and felt confident I could do it. I bought a cheap soldering iron and solder at Harbor Freight for less than $10. I added some solder on the two tabs and tinned the wire and voila! I did it! I snapped the switch back it, tightened the set screw and snapped everything back (after cleaning it all). It looks great and, even better, the key doesn't get stuck in the ignition. All for less than $20. Thank you for this video!
I watched another video that said that the part that I needed to change was in the column Changed It. Still? Had. The? Problem. I just saw your video and I realized somebody finally knows what they're doing great job thanks.
@@mngsadventur3364 It helped but it didn't fix it, I found a video that shows there is a switch inside the consoleby the shifter didn't do it yet but seems to be the fix for it
Thanks for the video! It helped me to repair the same issue on my wife's Camaro. I don't know how you found the part number for the switch, but it did the job. Appreciate your time.
I don't think so, the side trim does come off very easy so you can pull it off and see but I think you will find out the upper trim will need to come off.
I fixed this same issue for my buddies car (kia I think it was). And it was still intermittent, so as a redundant backup we added a hidden, cheap, little push button switch in parallel with the factory switch, that way if it ever did stop working again, he could just reach down and hold that button and make it work manually. Normally it works fine most of the time, but he said he did have to use it a few times on some really cold days; so that turned out to be a pretty cool fix-- since he already had the little momentary switch laying around.
Thanks for the video! Which cleaner did you use? Is there one you recommend, given the rubber part of the switch was hesitant to use one that may wear the rubber down.
Most recalls are safety-related so if this switch caused the engine to die it probably would have been a recall. The best thing to do is replace the switch but cleaning it will also fix it but probably for not as long.

Can this be accessed from removing the center console side panel? Thus, not needing to remove all the silver trim?

Thank you for great video , was very help . solved my problem
Shouldn't this have been recalled by GM? So does the switch need to be replaced or just the contacts cleaned? Thanks for the video.

@@rusty2407 Only 2 of the contacts are used, the factory switch has 3 terminals also but you only use 2 of them.
