I've been having this issue for a while now, and today it just refused to give me the key. I was so extremely stressed out, had no idea what I was gonna do... You're video was perfection, step by step instruction, video, explanation, it was so easy!!!! I did it in about 15 minutes and it works! Thank you SO much!!!! (2015 Camaro LT Convertible)
This video was made 4 years ago, and I’m very happy, I stubble upon it. I was able to complete this process in 15 minutes. This video saves me a lot of time and money. Thank you brother!
Wowwww life saver omg I been getting stuck everywhere!!!it was so irritating.I watched this video, bought the tools and I'm a female and followed your directions and It totally fixed the irritating problem..your a blessing thankkkkk youuuu!!!!!
Great video helps out alot. I did however discover what the problem was. Theres a little microswitch underneath the shifter and it tells the car when its in park and unlocks the switch. I replaced the micoswitch in about 15 minutes and everything works properly. The part number is d2hw-bl221h for anyone who wants go through that to repair the issue.
This is probably the most worthwhile video I've ever watched on RUclips tbh. I totally appreciate that the video cuts the blah and gets right into actually addressing the issue that all of us are so desperately looking for. I have a 2014 Camaro RS LT with only 30k miles and it was having the ignition/key problem. Got into work late today because of it and finally had enough of the intermittent problem. Kept looking for a DIY solution until i was lucky enough to find this video. Sir, you are amazing! Took me 15 min to do it and it actually works! Thank you 👍🏼
Thank you so much for blessing us with this information. You have relieved many of us from our frustration of having a stuck key in the switch. You are awesome. And may GOD continue to bless you to help others whom are in need of it. Thanks again so much!!
@curriegibson2998 Thank you for your kind words and feedback. Im glad i can help and keep everyone from stress, and from overpaying for simple solutions, you can do it yourself and save money and time. Thanks god bless you too 🙏
I just sat in the WalGreens parking lot in my 2015 Camaro RS for, no joke, 30+ mins waiting on the key to release.... It finally happened, so I go into the store get my things and come straight home to find this video! I tore that plastic off and ripped that wire out so fast! UGH!!! I absolutely LOVE my Camaro so much but that damn key issue was killing it for me... After I started and drove and parked, it comes right out! You have NO IDEA, but you probably do, how annoying that was after damn near EVERY. TIME. I parked... People staring at me sitting there in my car pressing my shift button over and over and over until it FINALLY clicks and then I accidentally pressed the button again and hear it RE-CLICK! FUUUUUUHQ I saw red! I may end up calling the dealer to have it fixed at some point but for now, this works! Thanks man.
Jessica Johnson I’m glad I could help and yes it is really frustrating and annoying when stuff like this happen the good thing we got RUclips to share what we know and help other with the same issue I put this video up to help those who don’t want to spend hundreds on fixing this issue because it will happen again it’s just the faulty ignition switches gm has for these vehicles, had a customer bring in their car for same problem after paying a ton of money to dealer to fix it and I did this process he’s had no issue at all and his problem was soposbly fixed by dealer but key would get stuck again. Gm should have a recall on this but not inuff people report it and plus they probably wouldn’t do it cuz they wouldn’t want to loose thousands in a recall. I know how it feels to sit at a store with key stuck happened to me I had no tools just a simple small players and I made it work lol I was able to open it remove wire and fixed that’s why it’s always good to carry even a small tools set. Thanks for the comment and sorry for this long paragraph thanks for the support
This just started happening to me this week; I bought my car (2015 automatic; not an SS) used in 2018 at a local Chevy dealer. I have ~72K miles on the vehicle; as a 2018 that puts the vehicle at about 9 or 8 years old (giving all this info, in case any reader's own personal car stats line up with mine). I don't remember getting a recall notice. Thx for posting your concise vid---my husband followed the instructions, and it WORKED! Just as fast a repair as shown in the vid, too! Mr. MuscleCarSuspect might advise otherwise, but if you don't want to be stuck far away from home etc, or with a huge repair bill---just go ahead and do this particular action anyways, NOW. Apparently doing this, also nicely doesn't stop anything else in the car from working. God bless you for helping us, Sir! (actual repair portion of the vid starts at 00:34, if you're in a rush to get going!)
Yes definitely agree they should. But gm dont care. Unless everyone gets together and inuff people report it. But this works as well for now. Thanks for the comment bro. Subscribe!!
Yo!!! thank you so much for putting this information out here. We have the exact model. I did what you did and I no longer have that key stuck situation 😎…Thanks for helping everyone that had this issue get situated I got tired of waiting over 20 to 30 minutes in parking lot bout almost late for work because key wouldn’t come out. I’m also mad for the fact I spent over $1100 at the dealership for this problem but never got resolved instead replaced stuff I didn’t ask for smh… I can go on and on but bottom line is I’m happy I don’t have to wait anymore for key to come out ignition when going to my destination… thanks again sir…💯
No problem im glad I can help and yea delaership knows what the issue is its just gm amd their terrable builds their parts are just no good issue never gets resolved this fixes it 100%.. they will try tontake as much as they can from your poket! Tbh they should have a recall on thos but in reallity they should be sued dor this cuz its all planmed to make money out of us. Im glad i can help please subscribe

You are awesome! I damn near pulled my hair out stuck in 105* heat flicking my key on and off, and restarting my car 50 times.. Almost sold the car, hahaha! Thank you!
Jared W no problem I’m glad I can help! It is very stressing with stuff like this happen.. especially with it happens in very high heat, all you want is to get into you home with some cool AC! Thanks for your positive comment and support!
Thanks for the great tutorial. Just fixed mine today in 10 minutes after watching your video. Will update if problem persist, but I did a few ignition starts and no problem. Awesome directions!2014 Camaro LS.
Thank you so much! I have been struggling for two years, constantly waiting sometimes 20 minutes or more for the keys to let go! It took me longer to get the bolts off and the housing detached than it took to unhook the little cable! You are a lifesaver!!
No problem im glad i can help! Glad to know this helped you with your issue and saved you time amd struggles. Thanks for watching and supporting the channel!
May 17, 2023. Two days ago my key got stuck, I watched the guy who took his gear shifter handle off, I did that ….nope, I watched the other one who took the panels under the steering wheel off, and unplugged his solenoid….. that didn’t work, soooo I took some WD40 and tried to get it in the key hole as best as I could, and wiggled and pulled, finally after 15-20 min it worked, but a big shout out to you for really showing me how to take off the panel and then put them back on.
I just did this to my 2015 V6 RS Camaro. It was fairly simple even for a 67 year old dude that needs to loose weight, One thing I had four screws to remove and the initial pull apart of plastic housing is a bit tricky but once started comes off easily. Easily spotted the culprit as described and detached wire per your instructions. So far it seems to have done the trick and I look forward to not having my key stuck ever again. I rate this job as fairly simple and effective!!! Thank you very much!!
Same here!!! 4 screws on my 2015 v6. I showed my husband this video 3 weeks ago. I finally stopped talking to him and he did it. It worked!!!! I just can’t figure out what the part is so I can replace it.
@@rebeccamaggard5190 looks like it's the ignition lock solenoid part 22891588... IF the problem is just that item it's plugged into. $20-30 part looks like
2015 2LT - 4 screws. I've dealt with this for a year and some days it is worse than others, today on my birthday it finally wouldn't budge. Thank you, bro! You saved me so much headache. I gave a dealership $300+ to "clean the key and ignition" and it of course did nothing. All those techniques I had are finally in the past!
Dealer rip you off. A simple computer diagnostic would show that the key release system requires the shift lever to be on park. All the failures that I seen have been the micro shift at the shift lever. It's a $9 part D2hw-bl251h and it's extremely easy to replace. It's located at the shift lever and takes no more than 30 minutes to replace.
Thank you we literally bought my 2015 a year ago and a month after getting it home this issue occurred. Been paying $500 a month for a car that’s been Parked. We put 15000 miles on it the first month we loved it soo much. The past 11 months since the issue occurred we’ve put 800 miles on it cuz we couldn’t get the key out thank you soo much I really appreciate the help
Marshall Blazin' no problem I’m glad I can help. And I’m sorry to hear that you couldn’t drive your car because of the issue if you would have told dealer about it right when it happened they should have fixed it but generally it’s a gm problem their ignitions are no good so even if you replace it same thing will occur again I’m glad you found my video and I was able to help..
Video was 100% spot on. It took me about ten minutes since I never did this before. I couldn't have done this without the video. Chevy dealer was going to charge me $100 just for diagnostics and for parts, if needed. They probably would have charged for unneeded parts.
Yes, this happens a lot to people who have no experience. I'm glad i was able to help you save some money and fix your issue. Please subscribe! Thanks for your feedback!
There is a much easier way to do this as I have found out. Instead of this way you showed, you can also just put the car in park. After you shut the car off and if the key is stuck, click the shifter with your fingers (chrome piece where you hold down to shift in automatic) until you hear the clicking noise on the break. Once you hear this noise the key will turn and come out. Done this hundreds of times and is the quickest alternative for anyone. Great video by the way!
James Doyal you can but eventually it won’t be quick nomore to get it to click. Like I say in the video you can spray a bit of d40 on the shifter button to lubricate it and click it a couple of times till it lubricates right
I just really really really want you to know and understand and believe me when I tell you that YOU SAVED ME FROM SO MUCH STRESS AND ANXIETY 😢😢❤I have been dealing with this for the last 2-1/2 years!!!!!! They kept telling me it’s the battery so I kept replacing batteries!!!! Thank you sir!!! Thank you so so so so so very very much!!! You are a Most Valuable Person MVP 🥇
Thanks for your feedback! Im glad i can help and that my video was very helpful and stress free! Im sorry you wint threw all those unnecessary repairs. But im glad you found my video and fixed it. Subscribe!
Midnight Materia Gaming no problem I’m glad I can help and hopefully they can fix threw warranty but you know dealers they find excuses for everything. Thanks for the support
Been dealing with this problem for months most annoying thing with dealing with Camaros. Thanks to this videos i don’t have to worry again thank you 🙏🏾
I am a 64 year old woman and your video was so easy to follow that I fixed it myself. I love my Camaro but the key getting stuck was really pissing me off. Thank you so much. You are awesome. God bless you
@@Moonman808 be careful because I'm not 100% sure but i believe that's the ignition lock plug and with that unplugged it may allow the key to be turned all the way off and the car shut off while you are driving which would probably lock your steering wheel up. Wouldn't be good bumping it with your knee or having something bump the key back doing 80 mph on the highway lol. I put 32k miles on my Camaro in less than a year and traded it in for a 2017 Jeep wrangler jk, one of the best decisions I've ever made. Good luck to you man.
I appreciate the quick and short NO-BS explanation (I HATE people that want to talk for 10 minutes before giving a 30 second explanation!!!). I have a 2015 Camaro that has been having this issue for over a year and a half and only has 35,000 miles on it. Usually, I have to restart the car several times, rotate the steering wheel back and forth, kill the engine and then try to take out the key..... eventually it will let the key come out (takes about 7 tries doing this.... usually). I'll be doing this hack this weekend! Thank you dude!!!
After harassing General Motors headquarters I had them make me an appointment at the dealership by my home in San Diego and they ended up fixing my Ignition in paying for it but they said it was a part in the shifter
The same thing just happen to my 2015 I am calling the dealer too !!! They recalled the new ones already gave us a wack key fob they need to do better I don’t even have 50k miles on my car smh
Manuela Ippolito yea sometimes it can be the button on the shafter just apart a bit of WD-40 on the button and click it a couple of times should help it but rn it’s bin over 3 months I removed the wire and no issues. Hope you like video
Omg! Genius! My freind has been fighting with this for soooo long and the 2 of us girls just freaking fixed it! So thank you for the clear and detailed information!
We were nervous about the dash not being easy to put back on after we took it apart- that kind of stuff is hard to explain to the husband later yikes buuuut it was exactly like you showed and shop again thank you for not making us have to tell that we took it in to our own hands on margarita night! Lol ;)
@@lovmygabby im glad my video was very understandable and clear on how to do this process.. and theirs times your nervous to do things on your own but you never know until you try if you can and you did & succeeded! Great to know it worked and you were able to put it back together eazy and free having the tools to do it. Thanks for the positive feedback!
I've owned this car since 2017 and love it. However, the Key Stuck issue has been a royal pain since day one. After trying all the "quick fixes" and gimmicks (clicking 5 times quickly, slowly, fiddling with the gearshift just the right number of times and hoping the planets are lined up just right and the moon is full...) I finally decided to live with it. I had found your fix, but was afraid it would screw something up so I didn't want to try it. Then, after sitting in front of the smoke shop for 20 minutes trying to get the key out, I had had enough. This took all of 5 minutes to do (although my cover had 4 screws, not 3 and that added a minute to find) and I haven't had an issue since. I owe you at least a case of Modelo for ending my suffering! Thank you sir. You are Awesome!
How ironic, I have a friend and also an employee of mine that both have 2015 Camaros, both are experiencing the same key issues. Saw your video and fixed both cars in the same day, like another poster commented, took me longer to search through my toolbox for a 7mm socket and reducer than unplugging the connection. Thank you sir!
@@05gtdriver im glad i can help everyone save some money and time.. saves people from paying hundreds at dealers when you can always fix it yourself with just a socket and rachet lol thanks for your positive comment!
I bought a 2012 Camaro, a yr ago, since then I've been asking ,even seen other utube videos,to no help until I saw urs,,thx u sum much, now I can get out of the car when I get to where am goin,no issue of waiting,,
Another option is to pull the DLIS fuse (F1 in the INSTRUMENT PANEL FUSE BLOCK). No tools required. Disabling the "Direct Logic Ignition Switch" (DLIS) is the intended purpose -- to be able to remove the key while the car is out of (P)ark, primarily when you want to tow the vehicle. The real difference with the cable-disconnect option is that with the fuse pulled some other features (instrument panel, radio, etc.) will no longer have power when the key is in "Accessory Mode".
Came home yesterday and over two hours went by as I waited for my ignition to release my key. It got stuck before but I don’t think it ever took that long. Wasted a ton of gas because it would click while the car is on, letting me know my key could be taken out of the ignition. If I turned the car off, it would drain my battery so I left it on. Frustratingly looked on RUclips and found this video, thought I might mess something up doing it his way, so looked at the comments for other suggestions. YOURS saved me!! Thank you! Because removing the fuse was easier worked perfectly.
Mines in the shop right now for this issue for the second time, once at 5,000 miles and again now at 20,000 miles. The first time it was covered, now its not. Thanks so much for the info on the work around man.
Thanks for the demo video, totally helped me out last night. Mine was exactly where you were showing it was, only difference was the way mine was clipped on. Had to use a flat-head screwdriver to pry the little plug off, but it all worked the same. No more key getting locked. Then again, with all the lemon crap that has gone on with my Camaro, I think I'm done with Chevy.
Tim Raynor good to know I was able to help out and yea Chevy don’t make good vehicles now a days it’s not like back in the days. I love my camaro but I wouldn’t buy any newer than 2015 thanks for watching the video

I had this problem in my 2015 back in 2016, still under warranty so the dealer replaced the shifter, started again last year but the "putting it in park fast" trick worked up until this morning, when I was dropping my son off at daycare and I had to leave my car on while I did so. Tried this when I got to work and it worked! Fingers crossed that's the end of that issue...

Best video about this problem on the entire internet!! Do you think replacing the shifter handle would also fix the problem? Obviously way more expensive, but I'm just curious.
Well to be honest the same thing will just happen again this is a permanent , i havent had no more issues on my camaro at all.. and it would be definitely up to you, but yes really expensive gm just has some bad shifters/ignition. Dustin Deming well honestly bro it’s a problem gm has and they will fix it for you but they will charge a shit load. It’s because of the button on your gear shifter it tends to get stuck here and their and this process should help you fix it permanently. It just a simple wire you remove shouldn’t affect your car in any way. It just what keeps your key stuck. Gm just has bad ignitions

Do you have a link for this part?
My husband fixed my 2015 Camaro RS for me and it worked perfectly. Thanks so much for this video!
This was so annoying and embarrassing.
Thanks for your feedback! Im glad it helped! Subscribe!
In my opinion GM should do a recall for this it's ridiculous. Thanks for the video bro this just happened to me literally last night
Yes definitely agree they should. But gm dont care. Unless everyone gets together and inuff people report it. But this works as well for now. Thanks for the comment bro. Subscribe!!
What’s the cable for ?
Yo!!! thank you so much for putting this information out here.
What did they replace my friend is having the same issue

You are awesome! I damn near pulled my hair out stuck in 105* heat flicking my key on and off, and restarting my car 50 times.. Almost sold the car, hahaha! Thank you!

Thanks for your feedback! Im glad i helped in something.
Awsome bro. Im glad to help! Thanks for the positive feedback and support!
$20-30 part looks like
Are all four screws 7mm bolts? I removed three of them but can get to the fourth.
Are all four screws the same 7mm bolts? I removed three of them but couldn’t get to the fourth one in the middle.
Im sorry to hear the dealer ripped you off. Im glad my video saved you money and fixed your issue. Subscribe!
Like I say in the video you can spray a bit of d40 on the shifter button to lubricate it and click it a couple of times till it lubricates right
I would do this also until it stopped working for me.

Ryan Epps no problem bro I’m glad I can help thanks for watching and supporting!
Nice, I was looking for someone with a 14 2ss to see if this would work on them too. Thank you both!!!!
No problem im glad i can help. And yes it can be very frusteratting
I love my Camaro. But that damn key was always getting stuck. Thank you for the detailed presentation. You are a life saver.
No problem glad I can help
Dude same here. I've had to leave it over night!
I just spent over an hour stressing on what am I going to do as my key would not disengage and then I found this video. IT WORKED!!! Thank you !!!!!!

Thank for the feedback! And im alwsys open to donations on my cashapp $Musclecarsuspect thanks for the support please subscribe!

My hands are skinny so I did it just with the top off . Trust me I havent had the problem since after years of dealing with this . I lowkey forgot about it lol
is this a permanent solution or temporary? my key does get stuck too but just wondering leaving that cable out won't affect anything?
alfredo garrido it’s a permanent solution I have had my wire disconnected ever since and no problems it’s your choice if you want to remove the wire and leave it like that or you can take to dealer and spend 300$ for a repair it’s up to you but this dose fix the problem
Mr MuscleCarsuspect thanks so much bro I will definitely save that money
alfredo garrido no problem I’m glad I can help bro
I'm sure the wite reads the gear shifter position and is in protection mode. Is seems to be an isolated issue. Shifter position issues....
For v6 too?!!
Thanks so much!! I got this 2015 Camaro for my son and he was so frustrated w the key getting stuck. With your video I was able to fix it, save a ton, and look like super Mom!! Thanks soooo much!!
Your very welcome! Thanks for your comment and support! And happy early mothers day!
Any idea what is bad in order to fix the problem permanently?
Dustin Deming well honestly bro it’s a problem gm has and they will fix it for you but they will charge a shit load. It’s because of the button on your gear shifter it tends to get stuck here and their and this process should help you fix it permanently. It just a simple wire you remove shouldn’t affect your car in any way. It just what keeps your key stuck. Gm just has bad ignitions
Literally this a camaro thing! me and all my friends that have camaros have this problem wth! Thank you !
Yes it’s literally a Camaro thing. I’m glad I can help! Thanks for watching and supporting!
This worked like a charm but um .. what did I just unplug 😂
XotiC OutlaW it’s the ignition switch lock wire, all it dose is keep key locked shouldn’t affect anything else mines bin disconnected for over a year now and no issues
Yeah from my understanding it's the child safety lock so you won't be able to shift out of park when the car is off when it's plugged in.
The Smile on my face after doing this the Key comes right out now 🙏🏾 Thanks
For 2014 camaro there is 4 screws

tigerslear yes it’s very stressful and no problem I’m glad I can help, thanks for your comment and support!
i fixed my 2010 by this method. Its wonderful fix, but in 2010 the lock stays normally closed so you have to tie the lock with something so its stays in open position.
Good video , Love from Pakistan!!
Xahid Nawax thanks for the positive comment and support on the the channel all the way from Pakistan! Great to know I got viewers out their! I’m glad my video was helpful!
You're a life saver. This issue was making me an angry person lol Took it to the dealership last month and they said it was the shifter and replaced it, but that didn't fix the problem. At least it was only $90.
GM kmows about the issue but won't tell their customers. Instead, they will have you spend hundereds of dollars on an issue that just keeps coming back. Thier should be a recall and refund towards customers charged for an issue that needs a recsll. Im glad i can help. Subscribe
Thank you so much for the info.. I sat in the parking lot for 2 minutes cuz I forgot I pulled the wire you were talking about in your video..
