I can officially say this key fob is a heaven sent lol my old one fell completely apart as well. I ordered this one off the eBay link from this video like three ish weeks ago and it’s been great!! Had to undo it a couple times because I didn’t get it on the plastic piece well enough but after that last time I think it’s staying lol. But it’s great!
Anyone doing this swap keep in mind the new key fob buttons are easier to press. Meaning you will accidentally unlock your car or open the trunk when the key fob is in your pocket. Also Ace hardware will cut the blank switchblade key for you. They will not guaranty the work.
The original 5th gen key fobs actually got recalled, so if you go to a dealership to get a new one they give you 2 pieces now. The exact same key fob and a separate cut key. You have to get someone else to cut one of the inserts to get a one piece OEM key. Just a heads up for anybody trying to figure that one out
It's a bummer, the factory 5th gen key is basically a switchblade. I only have my original 1x flip key for my car left so I need to find someone to duplicate it outside of the dealership.
You can still but the fobs (~$70) from Chevrolet, but have to find an aftermarket source for the cut key portion. The dealership I went to gave me some of the blanks they had laying around.
@@blanegray1 I assumed a recall meant you'd get the part for free. anyway i just bought some cheap replacement fob shells that I'll use and carry over my chip/key from my current fob
If you tell them them you don't want the recall done then they will still cut the key for you. Did that at my local Chevy dealership last year when I got this new fob. I have never done the recall and don't ever plan on doing it either. It's a stupid recall anyway, for someone's knee to hit the key fob while driving it would have to be intentionally unless they are a very very tall person.
Originally my (2)SS came with two sets of keys. All the buttons on both sets caved in. Eventually I ended up hollowing out the holes where the buttons used to be and used pencil erasers with tape over it for the buttons for a couple years which worked surprisingly well. After my keyblade broke off the metal rotating portion I ended up cannibalizing both keys until I found your video and ordered a set of replacement fobs. I found some on Amazon that work for Camaro/Equinox that look identical. I had to drill out the hole with a 1/4" bit to fit the old key but I reused the old springs and now I have two working sets although I need one key cut.
You put a 4-button circuit board in a 5-button fob case. Now only 3 buttons work and no trunk release function. The Ebay link is for the correct 4-button fob case.

that metal tab that i guess holds the battery in place on the top part of the shell? its a pain to keep in place when putting back together and i suggest doing a very small amount of glue to hold it.
Hey thanks for this vid. I ordered a blade key fob similar to this one from Amazon. I'm not sure if it will have a circuit board in it or not? Damn i never thought about it!! Ugh!!
dude, @GV Aspirated .... the key was actually intentionally separated from the FOB like that for a reason. It was actually a manufacturer recall modification, apparently for safety reasons. I have a 2011 SS, same key, and it was originally one piece, flip out. I actually had to take my keys into the dealership and have them separated under manufacturer recall to remain under warranty. Research why it was done and the consequences of reverting it to the original configuration before you restore the key to the original configuration. I actually ordered blank replacements to put back in place on the FOB itself to get rid of that annoying empty space afterwards. That said, opening that was a pain in the ass.
It will not void any warranty, but if in accident due to key, then it makes GM not liable. But, only reason there was issue is if person is really tall or long legs, could possibly hit key with knee. I left my fob as is, my knee is over a foot away, to hit key i would almost intentionally have to try to hit it. If I was in the NBA I would separate key. Most Gm cars that era have same key.

Well I've had my car valet a couple of times and other people use the key so it probably accelerated the wear and tear. Either way, good job for not having it look like diarrhea. xD
This is a mod? Lol I get that it would be depending on the condition of your fob. Keep in mind there was a recall on the key in 2015 and it was the same kind of combined key here which is why they make the keys the way they are now. I think they fell out of the d the ignition while driving
This totally is a mod. No, they make it separate because people's knees would bump into the fob (inserted in ignition) and subsequently shut off the car while they are driving.
Do not set your keys on fire rule nr1 they sure looks burned out here. i have just bought an SS 2015 but my keys looks pretty good still one of them looks almost brand new
Could be the battery! Make sure all pieces and battery is connected and working. There's a metal rod that holds the battery in place. I didn't think much of it and didn't put it in the first time. it didn't work. I had to put it in for it to read and work.
I purchased this product, and the buttons on it never worked. If you plan on purchasing this anyways, buy it from someone else. I paid $16, but there are other people on ebay selling the same FOB for $8.
That key fob is not the same as the factory you have, you dint even press the trunk or alarm button which does not line up with the factory chip. Very misleading
Hello Andy, In the description, there should be two links for the different types of update keys (manual & automatic). I bought the automatic start up incorrectly, however, it should still work even if they don't line up. You can press it, and although it wont click like the other buttons, it still opens the trunk, same with the alarm/panic button. Btw, I did press the panic button in the video. I admit that there wasn't a clear place in the comment section indicating that (I just corrected it). Although not a pleasant comment, I still appreciate your feedback.
This mod doesnt work. The trunk open and whatever is next to it wont work after. Lock and unlock seem to function but it wont open the trunk. Deal breaker.

Just got the new key fob today. Tried following the video and eventually gave up because no amount of force was able to open the old fob. I went to turn on my camaro and it just completely shuts off. The key got unprogrammed because of the force that we used. Any help or tips?
Hey man sorry to hear that happened. So the mother board or the circuit board got damaged? I used a screwdriver and it took me a while. You have to try to pry from the openings as much as you can (the spring area from the flipping key).
It really is a plug and play for the new key dude. Maybe it’s loose inside? And you hit the auto start button by accident?
@@gvaspirated yeah I'm guessing the circuit board got damaged. Thing is I tried with my knife, then we used screw drivers and it wouldn't come off. It started tearing itself apart so that's where we decided to stop, I step into my car, turn the key and the car shuts itself off. The anti-theft system kicks in when I try to put it into drive. Decided to call the experts and they're gonna give me a separate key so I'll have the remote and then the key. Which sucks. I still wnat to the key fob ordered but I'll wait til a professional does it for me.
@@miguelr6044 I see. Bro, I'm sorry this happened. The knife was jut not thick enough to handle the pressure. I had to pry from different sides with the screw driver to slowly start loosing it up.
@@gvaspirated I'm guessing it was glued super tightly because I heard the glue coming off but then then entire thing started breaking.
BS on that OEM key. My is 11 years and it doesn't look like that. That new 3rd party looks good.
Well I've had my car valet a couple of times and other people use the key so it probably accelerated the wear and tear. Either way, good job for not having it look like diarrhea. xD
If you drop it a lot, it will look like that. I can vouch for it.
This is a mod? Lol I get that it would be depending on the condition of your fob. Keep in mind there was a recall on the key in 2015 and it was the same kind of combined key here which is why they make the keys the way they are now. I think they fell out of the d the ignition while driving
This totally is a mod. No, they make it separate because people's knees would bump into the fob (inserted in ignition) and subsequently shut off the car while they are driving.
can u start up ur car with that key?
I don't have the auto start up feature so I don't have first hand experience on the matter bro.
Yes you can, if your key fob has the remote start feature, it will work with the new key fob
Nicca dog chewed his key
Do not set your keys on fire
rule nr1
they sure looks burned out here.
i have just bought an SS 2015 but my keys looks pretty good still
one of them looks almost brand new
trunk button doesn't work....
i did exactly what you did but the buttons don’t work . any reason why ?
Could be the battery! Make sure all pieces and battery is connected and working. There's a metal rod that holds the battery in place. I didn't think much of it and didn't put it in the first time. it didn't work. I had to put it in for it to read and work.
@@gvaspirated that’s exactly what it was. took it apart and put it back together. now it works. thanks
@@jwhogangr Glad to hear bro!
@@gvaspirated what metal rod?
I purchased this product, and the buttons on it never worked. If you plan on purchasing this anyways, buy it from someone else. I paid $16, but there are other people on ebay selling the same FOB for $8.
How do you switch the key part tho
What do you mean bro

Is that the stock bumper ?
Hey Alejandro, yes it is!
Does the remote start work tho?
Hey, thanks for the comment. I don't have self start. I'm not sure tbh. I'm sorry if that's not useful information.
I have remote start for my Camaro and it does work with this new key fob.
boyyyy ain’t now way😂😂😂 you be nibbling on yo keys huh?💀💀💀
LMFAOOO nah fam, that shit is just nasty material. But yo it does look like I do!
That key fob is not the same as the factory you have, you dint even press the trunk or alarm button which does not line up with the factory chip. Very misleading
Hello Andy,
In the description, there should be two links for the different types of update keys (manual & automatic).
Ouch those screwdrivers can fuck you up
My shit looks almost exactly like this...
Lmfao, it makes you think like WTF did I do!?
what the heck is a "buddon"?
might be an accent thing? Idk.
This mod doesnt work. The trunk open and whatever is next to it wont work after. Lock and unlock seem to function but it wont open the trunk. Deal breaker.
It works for me man.
For me, you have to hit the right side of the trunk button. Might be the fitment issue. But it still works.
Isn’t that a Camry key? lol
Is it? Lmfaooo! I know that this key is used for other cars like the cruz, impala etc
I call bs on that old key fob. It's not even functional in that shape.
That's why I replaced it hahaa
