- Hi guys! Welcome to episode 136 of Learn That Solo! Today we look at how to play the solo to 'M.I.A.' by Avenged Sevenfold.
'City Of Evil' was an album of win full of ridiculous songs and solos and M.I.A. has one of the best solos I think Syn has ever done!

Next time you do an Avenged Sevenfold lesson, you should do Coming Home! That solo (/those solo's) are great!

I think Syn gates is very underrated he definitely has his own unique style and sound down and I think that's every guitarists ultimate goal.

Yeah, if he made a good song, he underated. But if he wrote a song that similar with another band for example Metallica, then everyone bullying him.
Although it's so many a7x's good songs than a similar one with another band (Metallica).

Wow Chris your pretty awesome! How long did it take you before you had this solo down? Do you sit and practice all day long?
This a great tutorial, but the start the start of section 6, I'm 99 percent sure it starts with a picked 12 or slide up to 12, rather than a 13 12 10 pull off. Its really crisp if you listen to the song, It is hard to hear though so i could be wrong, but I'm pretty sure I'm not.
edit- figured it out- in all eighth notes, its slide up to 12 before the measure starts than 13 12 10 all on the E string, then 10 on the B string, skipping G string its then 12 on the D, back to 10 on the B, an eighth note rest and then a slide up to 13 on the B string. Be sure to give those slide ups that "Syn attitude" its what makes it.

This solo really is way easier than it looks. I thought section 4 is impossible, but it is actually one of the easiest parts. The arpeggio section is pretty hard though ^^

Am I the only one who thought Afterlife and Scream were both cake? I found MIA, The Wicked End and Save Me to each be waaaaaaaay harder.

This is actually my favorite solo of all time, from one of my favorite songs of all time :)
Can you do Selkies The Endless Obsession by Between the Buried and me? (its got another one of my favorite solos at the end of the song)
Really? I thinks it's rather uninspired, as with Avenged Sevenfold as a whole. They have potential (aside from Shadows) but stay somewhat simple and predictable. My own favorite solo has to be Painkiller's (the Judas Priest song, not the Breakupcore band Three Days Grace's song). It's the kind of technical brilliance that seems to be lost on many bands nowadays.

Tbh nothing really struck me when i listened to painkiller. Ive never really enjoyed Priest. Weird cause I love Iron Maiden actually.
But how is MIA uninspired? It has a fuckton of emotion and just some cool shreddy licks.
It just strikes me as rather generic. If you want some emotional songs, I've got two suggestions.

Embrace of the Endless Ocean by Amon Amarth
Also, Priest decimates Maiden and defiles the remains. Where Priest released their last good, in fact, great album in 2014, Maiden hasn't even had a hint of a good album for many years now.

I know both of those songs actually, both great. It kind of blows my mind that so many metal fans call metalcore bands generic when amon amarth has a ver very very similiar riffing style.
But anyway, I think Maiden's newest album is very good. My favorite song by them will probably always be hallowed tho
