I'd have to say my all time favorite guitar solo is from Dream Theater's "The Best of times". It's got the same qualities that are found in Razor's edge, but mixes in some insanely cool shreddy bits along with gorgeous soaring melodic lines. It's one of those solos that just sums up the entirety of the song perfectly, and it gives me goosebumps every time I listen to it.

I know this should be a top 5 but I am undecided) Obviously the times are for the original songs not for this video.
Love the end of the m.i.a solo, when the rythem guitar is no longer chugging and you get those sustained notes floating through the lead, magical sounds
0:44 This is great. I don’t use distrokid, but I do use a distributor that takes 25% royalties in lieu of a fee. I figured it was worth it, though, because I plan on releasing a self-published poetry collection on Amazon and I fully expect my total income in 2023 from that one book to far exceed my lifetime earnings as a musician. Basically, 15% of nothing is cheaper than any discounted fees.
My top 5 Metal guitar solos by guitarists that aren't in this video: 5) War Pigs. The bass and guitar both solo together, largely improvised. That's the kind of lightning in a bottle that's rare today because it requires them to be a great live band with improv skills. Plus, name a more iconic metal lead than the one at the 6:34 mark in War Pigs. I mean yeah, it's all played over just a couple power cords and it's all blues scale, but still, what an absolute classic. 4) Sea of Lies by Symphony X. One of the greatest neoclassical shred songs and an absolute banger as a sing-along as well. Like Lucretia and MIA, this solo fully encompasses Michael Romeo's highly underrated playing style 3) Kick It All Over by Greg Howe. I know he's generally considered to be a fusion guitarist these days, but this is off of his first album, released on Shrapnel Records in '88, and it's generally just instrumental shred more-so than fusion. He invented the hammer-ons from nowhere technique in order to play the cascading arpeggios of the chorus riff for this song. Legendary. 2) How Can You Call Yourself A God by Deicide. Ralph Santolla is one of my personal all-time favorite guitarists and the three solos he did for this song are the epitome of stank-face-inducing shred with his trademark jazzy phrasing, jaw dropping technicality and brilliant sense of timing. These 3 solos to me are the absolute epitome of good Death Metal guitar solos. What a terrible loss that he died at 51. 1) Thoracic Park by Buckethead. This is a prime slice of Buckethead pie and I'm saying having listened to every single one of the Buckethead pikes. This song is tight, has some brilliant harmonized bits, some bluesy wah parts, some call and response, some shred, take your pick. The entire album Thoracic Spine Collapser (Buckethead Pike number 267) is a fantastic, largely improvised rollercoaster-themed romp through a number of musical styles. Buckethead plays every instrument on this album, as well as on every one of the other 283 pikes.

I will just say Grey Heaven Fall’s first album in particular has a lot of cool lead guitar work, but I couldn’t choose a particular song from it for its solo, so just leaving mentioning them and their 1st album aside here instead. (Also, worth noting for Sigh, and Amorphis’ songs in particular that it’s not just the guitar solo parts which make the solo sections so good imo. For Sigh the quality is largely in part due to the different instruments playing their solos, then finishing by subsequently segueing into the next instrument’s solo. And for Amorphis it’s the ‘jammy’ kind of interplay between the guitar solo and keyboard solo-work which makes it as awesome as I experience it to be.)

5. Altitudes
I’d really love to see you cover the final solo in Illumination Theory for one of these. It’s like the Octavarium solo on steroids imo. It even references the melody at the climax and is structured the same but with some even tastier licks.
1. Nobody - Avenged Sevenfold
2. Tornado of Souls - Megadeth
3. The Wicked End - Avenged Sevenfold
4. Octavarium - Dream Theater
5.M.I.A - Avenged Sevenfold
6. Fade to Black - Metallica
I fcking love your energy because I have the same energy like every time from when I wake up till I go to sleep
@@BradleyHallGuitar hell yeah dude keep up with the great work of yours your videos are awesome 🤘💪❤
That's the best cover of the solo in Lucretia, flawless and perfect
In any order:
Megadeth - Dread and the Fugitive Mind
David Maxim Micic - Smile (solo by Jeff Loomis)
The Faceless - Xenochrist
Death - A Moment of Clarity
Necrophagist - Fermented Offal Discharge
Deicide - The Stench of Redemption
Yeah theres 6 but I couldn't get rid of any of them
You're right you really did nail that M.I.A solo. Probably the best I've ever seen it played by anyone other Syn himself!
Nevermore man. So fucking good. Most underrated band in all of metal. Rest in peace Warrel. Never got to see them live. 💔
Varied;
Trapped In A Corner (Death), Practice What You Preach (Testament), In the Cold Winds of Nowhere (Dissection), Black Stone Wielder (Candlemass), Battle Against Time (Wintersun)
1-"The Sleep" by Pantera
2-"Venomous Coils of a Holy Fallacy" by Fractal Universe
3-"Fermented Offal Discharge" by Necrophagist
4-"How Could I" by Cynic
5-"Phantom Limb Masturbation" by TBDM
Cynic - Celestial Voyage (first solo)
Death - Mentally Blind
Animals as Leaders - Tempting Time
Blotted Science - Synaptic Plasticity, that weird free-jazz solo
Megadeth - Hangar 18, the first one that Marty plays over the transition
probably also throw in Buckethead - Soothsayer, Galneryus - Silent Revelation, and the first solo in Helstar - Perserverance and Desperation as honorable mentions
Yep. I second this.
Dreams theatres “constant motion” solo at 3:40 is 🔥
For me, my favorite solo will forever be Dave’s tapping in Megadeth’s Hook in Mouth. Something about it gives me goosebumps even after hearing it thousands of times!

My top 5 metal solos is:
1. Megadeth - Wake Up Dead (Dave Mustaine, 3:11)
2. Rainbow - Stargazer (Ritchie Blackmore, 3:23)
3. Judas Priest - Painkiller (Glenn Tipton, 2:09)
4. Death - Bite the Pain (Chuck Schuldiner, 2:38) / Them - Punishment by Fire (Markus Johansson, 5:48)
5. Manowar - Pleasure Slave (Ross the Boss, 3:23)
(I decided to put two solos in the forth place because I love both the solos by Death and Them, but I also wanted Pleasure Slave solo in the top 5, so I decided to put those two solos together because I felt like they both deserved the forth place. I know this should be a top 5 but I am undecided)
Obviously the times are for the original songs not for this video.

2. I want out
3. Apocalyptic city
4. Angels and demons (Angra)
5. Rising force
5. Death and the healing
1. Cowboys from Hell-Dimebag Darrell

1. Tornado of Souls (Marty Friedman)
2. Lucretia (Marty Friedman)
3. Stone Wall (Jeff Waters)
4. Behind the Veil (John Petrucci)
5. Poison was The Cure (Marty Friedman)
My top 5 Metal guitar solos by guitarists that aren't in this video:
5) War Pigs.
Like Lucretia and MIA, this solo fully encompasses Michael Romeo's highly underrated playing style
3) Kick It All Over by Greg Howe.
5. Megadeth - Hangar 18
4. BFMV - Tears Don't Fall
3. Soothsayer - Buckethead
2. A7x - The Wicked End
1. Dream Theater - Under a Glass Moon
In the Cage - Galneryus
Coming Home - Avenged Sevenfold
The Killing Road - Megadeth
Crazy Doctor - Loudness
Forsaken - Dream Theater
No particular order. I have no idea how these fare in the technical aspect but I just think these are pretty cool
YES! Thank you for acknowledging Octavarium. It doesn't get anywhere near the credit it deserves.

Sorry, too much good ones came to my mind lol
Armory - “Beyond the Horizon”
Caladan Brood - “Wild Autumn Wind”
Anaal Nathrakh - “Of Horror, and the Black Shawls”
Mors Principium Est - “At the Shores of Silver Sand”
Amorphis - “From Earth I Rose”
Code - “I Hold Your Light”
Orden Ogan - “To the End”
Sigh - “The Transfiguration Fear”
Todtgelichter - “Oblivion”
Whispered - “Tsukiakari”
I get that that’s double the chosen amount for this video, but I see all of my ten chosen songs as being relevant to this sort of video/topic, and I did manage to leave out some I see as of equal or similar quality, which I was tempted to have included on one whim or another, but decided against going too overboard, so I’ve tried to compromise, lol.

🏆: Jason Becker's entire life esp. the parts where Marty was standing next to him.
Last but not least --> The piano players section on Giant Steps. It reminds me to stay humble in all things and keep playing til the song is over no matter what. That guy worked a lifetime to reach the heights of his profession only to show up to work and get run over the bus that is John Coltrane's improvisational abilities. Didn't matter, he tapped those keys til they cut the tape. That's life sometimes.
