You nailed the lead... the only thing that's missing is the way Syn slides into his notes, sort of "off time", and lazily. Otherwise, between the playing and tone, you've absolutely nailed it.
Those are the hardest things to learn, too. But I think it’s what makes this solo and his many other solos so great. They aren’t supposed to be played with perfect timing, it doesn’t have the right feel to it when you play them like that. The slides too are great, it took me forever to learn how to get them off time how he does it.
The uncle Ben stink eye is classic. Must be required to play this solo correctly or why oh why would my uncle do it. I'm going to be spending as much time in front of the mirror as I am learning the solo.
Been watching since the beginning - by far the most comprehensive and easy to follow tutorials on the web...Love the humor and personal touches...Keep them coming...oh, right - This Means War or Bat Country please...
Second best way to wake up in the morning-new Uncle Ben video!! Is that not also an Yngwie homage, amongst all the other homages, in the ascending Em9 arpeggio? Right outta Far Beyond the Sun, though rhythmically different. And those open chromatic open pulloffs definitely remind me of descending lick that opens Victim of Changes. It’s a full bore homage fest!! Great lesson, amazing guitar/sound and will definitely fire up some Avenged tapes!!!
Who are the three jokers with the thumbs down?! Amazing work as usual Uncle Ben! For a "not big listener" of A7X, you make Gates' licks seem accessible to us mere mortals 🤣😁
Hey man! This lesson is perfection! Wanna do some more avenged stuff? Dear god solo maybe? Not many good lessons on that one! Or maybe beast and the harlot! Greetings from Norway!
One of the best tutorials I have watched so far. You explain it that good, that not even tabs are necessary. Thanks for that. Just one thing I have noticed at around 13:19 , and I have listened to the album version now very slowly to be sure it's correct what I am writing here, the same high e-note is played twice at the end of the first 3 sweeps. The 4th is slightly different though. So it's not exactly "Rosenberg" and with the double picks of the high e and naturally a bit more difficult to play with this extra note. Maybe a bit like the intro of the song ;)
Hey Ben, thanks for the lesson. Sounds accurate except some parts of Jimmy Rosenberg arpeggios section. I believe in the first part of that section you need to follow the downward sweeps with an upward sweep yet you skipped the upward sweeps. Your version works too but just saying for absolute perfectionists. edit: I listened to the song and you know what, I might be wrong about the upward sweep but still it sounds like you're missing a note after each sweep. Maybe it should be like g#-b-d#-g#-g#-d# instead of g#-b-d#-g#-pause-d# but I don't know.
Great lesson Ben! It's the best one online today. I also put in the work and analyzed the live performances and slowed down the audio and my version is about 2 notes away from yours :-) It's a fun song to play live! Of note, Mr. Gates drops his 6th string (or keeps his 6th string dropped) one whole step for this song, the same as is required for the rhythm part. There's no real reason to do this for the lead part, but that's what he does. I play it in the tuning you suggest - it's easier :-)
Thank you for A7fold and yes you nailed it your style of teaching leads are best ive seen ,new to your channel.and so.damn excited I found it sending a thank you tip
Great job Ben! AWESOME stuff! Can't wait to work on this when I get some time. Any suggestions on effects and settings to achieve the closest to what he uses. You got they down really well also! Sweet guitar by the way!
Uncle, can you do the intro of this exact song? I think I play it wrong, I think I missed a note or something, same case with other people's covers on youtube, feels some notes are missing.
Onkel (Swenglish for "uncle") Ben, that's a great lesson! All is correct except for that "Rosenberg lick" - it is missing one sixteenth note triplet on the highest note in each arpeggio.
If you do another A7X solo I'd do one that there isn't already like a hundred lessons for, i.e bat country. I'd say heretic or welcome to the family maybe.
Awesome job man! On the part with Jimmy Rosenberg's Arpeggios it sounds like he's stroking the high e string twice on the 17th, 16th, 15th and 14th , could it be right?
I would literally love to learn any solo by Avenged Sevenfold. I've been playing this one for 6 weeks and my wife is already tired of hearing me play it. Do it for her sake.
When ever i play 7 fret B string, my G string starts to hum, why does yours not? I don't see is there any palm mute, but if there is, how is it possible to do with the string next to what u play?
Yeah Uncle Ben im new to guitar. Why is syn’s guitar in Eb tuning but Zacky’s on drop C# tuning. Usually both guitar are in the same tuning , how come this is not the case here ?
this solo is actually pretty easy (or maybe your just a good teacher) it sounds too much like an exorcise but this is excellent for beginning shredders
Thanks for watching this lesson on the Hail to the King solo by Avenged Sevenfold! What other Synyster Gates solos should we learn next?
Ben Eller Thanks man, I really appreciate it. Can we do Nightmare?
Beast and the Harlot please!!!
Paradigm
Thanks for the video, ben! How about "the stage"!?
Welcome to the family would be awesome!
Prepare yourself to be bombarded by people requesting more Avenged solos. Just ask Chris Zoupa 😂
I learned to play this solo and increased my manhood by four inches in just six weeks! Now women love me and dudes wish they were me!
RayBbaby I laughed way too hard at this.
hahahahahahhahaha thank you for commenting this

Exactly.. the laziness is the whole feel of the solo.. and if u rush into it something feel missing it ruins the feel .
I noticed the same thing! Good ear!
Can you at least make it look like your struggling? You're making it look way too easy and we're out here dying Uncle Ben.
Love ya.
Your facial expressions are funny and make me smile Uncle Ben. The ease with which you play is amazing. Great job!
The uncle Ben stink eye is classic. Must be required to play this solo correctly or why oh why would my uncle do it. I'm going to be spending as much time in front of the mirror as I am learning the solo.
David Flint ive seen many women getting pregnant just by taking a glimpse at it.
Great, now I can finally learn Thunderstruck properly
Finally someone who teaches this the right way!!! Thank you!
Best guitar teacher on here. Accuracy in technique and notes is perfect. Thanks for your hard work 🤘🏻
Nice solo. Rocking, yet relaxed. Think I'll hit this tomorrow.
Been watching since the beginning - by far the most comprehensive and easy to follow tutorials on the web...Love the humor and personal touches...Keep them coming...oh, right - This Means War or Bat Country please...
This is so far the best lesson... Especially the slowed down
My favorite uncle doing lessons on my idol guitar solos is the best thing

Hail to the yes.

Great video!! This was really helpful. Can you do chapter four next? Keep up the great work brother .

Yes, you are right. I also felt like.
What the fuck this is not me. I did not write this.
Got that "meow" in there, lol. Awesome tutorial, man!
Another excellent video, definitely going to be using this. Thank you!
Now I realize that Jimmy Rosenberg is the inspiration of Synister Gates, in a lot of licks. Never heard Jimmy before!! is amazing!!
Oh, that ending is filthy dirty.
Fantastic. Just like other people predicted, please do more (yes I know this is over a year old)
Guitar is oddly retro. Love it
Hey Ben, nice cover. Can you do a lesson on how to built up triplet picking speed?
Very impressive. You do an excellent job at nailing riffs and solos!
Uncle Ben Your such a Great Teacher !!! Luv how you explain all this technical shred Wizardy, luv your videos bro, that Suhr guitar is Freakin Sweet

Ah, I see you received my telepathic messages!
Great job Ben! AWESOME stuff! Can't wait to work on this when I get some time. Any suggestions on effects and settings to achieve the closest to what he uses. You got they down really well also! Sweet guitar by the way!

If you do another A7X solo I'd do one that there isn't already like a hundred lessons for, i.e bat country. I'd say heretic or welcome to the family maybe.
Oisin McPhillips Welcome to the family!!!

Can we get a Tremonti solo lesson? From either Alter Bridge or Tremonti Project?
A Dying Maschine or Crows On A Wire would be awesome.
Great lesson 👍🎸
Awesome job man!
On the part with Jimmy Rosenberg's Arpeggios it sounds like he's stroking the high e string twice on the 17th, 16th, 15th and 14th , could it be right?
I hear the same thing, watched a live video slowed down as well, seems closer to the recording playing those notes twice.
I would literally love to learn any solo by Avenged Sevenfold. I've been playing this one for 6 weeks and my wife is already tired of hearing me play it. Do it for her sake.
Basically any solo, Critical Acclaim, Nightmare, The Stage, MIA...

The guitar is a paid actor!

Uncle Ben, you funny.
Cooool
I wonder if the beginning of the solo came from Am I Evil?... I mean, c'mon...
Cody Granrud I think the a7x guys even said the album is somewhat of a tribute to music they grew up listening to
dddddddd that would make sense.
thats why their song this means war sounds like sad but true by metallica :)
Scr1llongoz sad but true*

When ever i play 7 fret B string, my G string starts to hum, why does yours not? I don't see is there any palm mute, but if there is, how is it possible to do with the string next to what u play?
Can you make a afterlife solo lesson
Yeah Uncle Ben im new to guitar. Why is syn’s guitar in Eb tuning but Zacky’s on drop C# tuning. Usually both guitar are in the same tuning , how come this is not the case here ?
Lowest string is not needed to play Syn’s lead parts for the entire song except solo, so he just keeps it in Eb.
gear porn!!!!!! I love it!
Ben please battle hymms solo
i put gain to 8 but i cant get the same sound as him? Do i need so switch or pedal???
Is this your custom guitar
Ahahahaha open position fuckery
1:04 that face represents when you execute the solo after 235236 tries. Guitar player life...
1:03 - Watching your kind uncle making loooooove to the camera.
Tasty
❤
Anyone have the tab link for this solo ?
More A7x
this solo is actually pretty easy (or maybe your just a good teacher) it sounds too much like an exorcise but this is excellent for beginning shredders
But,this is only playable on electric guitar, right?
No. Just not going have the same vibe
Do the intro to exist
0:47 there was like an extra note there...
Do MIA challenge yourself
I didnt think Synyster Gates could conceive of a solo this bad ass. Time to put that on my list of solos to learn after I get through Queen songs.
