  • The murder of rising star Dorothy Stratten sent shock-waves across the united states. The 20-year-old had an explosive rise to fame, going from Dairy Queen to Playboy Playmate of the year in less than 2 years. Though her big break came through glamour modeling, Dorothy had her eyes set on the silver screen, sadly her life was cut short before she could realize her dreams when she was murdered by her husband, Paul Snider.
In this true-crime short, we look at her life and tragic murder.

I think the reason girls go for a man like this is because he will come across as seriously, enthusiastically interested in her.
It makes her feel appreciated, and his line of talk will seem to directly counteract mean things that have been said against her in the past, through childhood and early teens.
The girl feels feels past hurts being healed.
She interprets his enthusiasm for her as caring and love.
      Unfortunately his enthusiasm is
      1. excitement for what he can get, and
      2. a manipulative tactic to get her to be his.
A girl that age typically doesn't see this.

Paul was the first predator in Dorothy's really short life. She was a minor when the nude pics of her were taken. Barely even 18 when she became a playmate. Paul & Hugh were the main predators. She was only 20 when she was killed. Paul the director was way older than her. I know legally she was considered an adult but imo he was also a predator. The article that was written about her is disgusting! To blame the victim for her murder especially when she was only 20 & was used by men since she was 17 & the fact that director married her younger sister proves he's a predator & extremely obsessed with Dorothy. Doesn't sound like his mental health was that good. I feel so bad for Dorothy & her family. So tragic. RIH sweet angel❤

Well you think so with the mentality, knowledge and awareness you have NOW. The Pullitzer winner did the same, with the mentality they had back then, which is why he or she won a Pullitzer. You can't judge the past with the moral standards of present day.
Everything that happened back then obviously reflects the notions of right and wrong of the time, which includes blaming the woman for her own demise and calling her a hungry-fame materialistc whore.
Most of the women back then agreed with the article because of how they were raised and conditioned by society. This women empowerment movement is quite new. Since I'm not that old, I can't really cite older examples of women who tried to defy society standards in mainstream media, but Madonna in her prime was one of them.
One of the reasons they shamed Dorothy was because despite her being objectified and an easy prey to predators, she actually represented women's beauty, sexuality and sexual expression.
Back then most women were sexually repressed and opressed and it was very shameful to be known as a sensual, sexually active woman. You had to be prim, proper, obedient and "respectable".
Madonna defied those standards by being openly, sexually expressive in her performances and songs. She was a trailblazer in that aspect and one of the first, if not the first, to openly sing about sex, masturbation, oral sex, female pleasure (at a time when women orgasming was considered taboo and sex in general was focused on cisgender male pleasure only) and to include sexuality in her performances, such as Like a Virgin at the MTV Awards (I think it was MTV).
She also tried to support the LGBTQA movement.

When Hugh banned Paul from the mansion, that should've been her way out. I just hope she is in a better place, seeing what stories like hers have changed in society. It's not perfect but we've made a good deal of progress for those being abused and stalked to get help and publishing those who do such things before it gets to murder.

Umm no, Dorothy wasn’t the opportunist-Paul, an actual grown ass 26-year-old man was the opportunist when he obviously spotted a pretty young girl who he set out to groom and to make entirely dependent on him. She wasn’t in the wrong because she was 17 when they got together AND he took all her money. She wasn’t an opportunist, she was a beautiful young woman who was trying to escape an obviously abusive marriage, I’m disgusted that glorified tabloid trash of an article won a Pulitzer, that’s disgusting and that definitely isn’t journalism either, it’s an opinionated and misogynistic woman spouting off bs to take advantage of interest in Dorothy’s tragic death. Funny how the writer accused Hefner & playboy of treating women like objects, at least they aren’t the ones victim blaming a young woman who had a piece of shit wannabe pimp masquerading as her husband.

It is the same old story, many of these beauties ran into psykos who ended up killing them, but how sad it is and always will be, everything start with you and what you are obligated to do in your own life. History repeat again and again, but nobody learn from it, yet every case are sad and often horrible......many crimes are unsolved for the time being,. On the road of fame, it seems that beauty, fame and money are the dominans of their lives, and along the way it will be the dominans from the men, who enter these naive lives.
Hollywood especially are the center of these sad cases, and they have bin going on through the entire 1900 century, still going on. If they dont get killed they commit suicide, and if that's not the case, they die from OD's or drinking.
I can't help thinking why these cases dont die out, it is as being rich, beautiful and famous demands sad endings, some call it destiny, I se a more real picture, a lack of sence, even living on top of the cake.
