I agree with Johannes that the theme of a great game doesn’t HAVE to be relevant to the gameplay. Case in point, Castles of Burgundy. But Sunniva’s right, the theme doesn’t help explain the rules of what is already a kind of confusing game to teach/learn. I really love this game, and I didn’t expect to! But it could’ve easily been “Gizmos” themed and it wouldn’t have been any worse for it.
The green sand timer randomly got stuck for the first several games that I played. I kept having to flick it with my finger. Then all of a sudden it just worked fine and I haven't had a problem since. I didn't mind the solo mode at all really but once I played all the advanced characters the replayability went down a bit for me. I also played it with 4 people and that was WAY better than solo, however my game group didnt like that much. Not surprisingly our resident AP'er felt very stressed out 🙂 (don't worry, he's fine). My score is somewhere around a 7 also. 🙂
@@wolfpelt Cinema is my pet name for Sunniva. "Brain thought"? For example, You feel hungry. It's a tummy thought. Have to go to the bathroom, a "bladder thought" etc. Sunniva has basically perfected the English language!
When I first saw the pictures of those timers, I knew they would not be very stable. A strange design choice for a real time game. Might have been okay in a game with one timer per round or something. But the sand getting stuck is surprising. I have a few cheap games that have had that problem, but when you have these nested times, that's rough.
Oh I had a great laugh at the bleeped out profanities! I would be doing the same thing if I missed the chance to make the actions in time. I think this game looks interesting, but I think I'd get too stressed and frustrated. I like to take my time (without too much AP) when playing a game. Thanks for another great video! Really enjoyed this one!
I am so intrigued with this game. It's a Stonemeier games, so that gets my attention. I like real-time games just fine. So this might be one for me to at least try.
There's a thread from Jamey Stegmaier on the sand timers sticking: boardgamegeek.com/thread/2474891/update-sand-timers-july-29 Seems like he's saying they fixed the problem for production copies after review copies had the issue. Also, he's saying they might stick at first, but then get better after a few plays?? "The first few times you play this game, it might not work, but stay with it," is not a sales pitch I'm responding too, but I think it's a clever design, and I hope people have fun with this.
That sounds good! We hadn’t had it in any of our other plays, so kind of typical of it happening during the filming! Don’t feel like I said too much bad about it, other than the fact that it is risky with sand timers in games, and I still stand by that!
i'm on the minority of the comments written here. I have little to no interest to play this game. The theme alone is boring. The gameplay...I can't stand real time games, especially those that deal with sand timers. You tend to keep looking at the sand timer to see if it stopped working or how much time you have left so you don't "cheat". The only game of that type that has survived in my collection is Escape: curse of the temple. Just because it takes 10 min and non-gamers love it as well.
Haha! I thought Tapestry was pretty good, but I don’t have a huge desire to go back to it. Pendulum is very unique, and I enjoyed my time with it, but it isn’t anything amazing for me either!

Yeah, I agree! It helps when the theme is there, but I don’t really care when it’s not 🤪
First! Loved the thumbnail for this video.
Me too!
Thank you! Hope the video is good as well 😂
@@BoardGamingRamblings No worries. Anything with Cinema is great!

Cinema invented a new boardgameing word, "brain thoughts". 😄
Perfecting the english language 😂
My new favorite saying!

I'm a heavy hex and counter wargamer but I like heavy peace games too. So I'm here. Yeah, @@BoardGamingRamblings is great!
Finally, some rambling in my Board Gaming Ramblings. ;)
Haha, has there been too little rambling lately, is that what you’re saying? 🤪
