I'm glad you guys have a sponsor, I just hope they don't try to dictate how you do your shows because I love the format and all the players you have on. I enjoy watching everyone play and as always Dave is awesome. :) I just worry about corporate money spoiling something that is actually very good and enjoyable for all of us to watch. And as always have a nice evening and continue having fun. :)
Roi, that is why we have never had a sponsor until now. We didn't want it to affect what we do on the show. Gamegenic is not concerned with what we feature, only that we show the audience how many sleeves are needed for the featured game, that we use the sleeves and accessories when we can and that we show three ads during the video. Today's episodes are short so they might seem to be too often. I also appreciate that the ads we show are well produced and are gaming related. Thanks for the note and for watching!-Lincoln
@@boardgamegeek I was actually really happy to see that you guys found a sponsor that fits the channel so well! You guys deserve it! The ads are great to look at and don’t disturb the video at all, which makes it great for ad purposes☺️
This looks like one of those games that I could never get a grasp of, but at the same time love the hell out of it. Sometimes games that are way out of my element are fun to me because my goal would then be to figure it out.
I really like this game, logic puzzles like this are right up my alley. If you like games like this, I also suggest playing Search for Planet X (find a planet you can't see using logical deduction) and Shipwreck Arcana (cooperative game where you guess what secret number people have based on a clue they put on a tarot card).
I played this after watching the rules, but before watching the play, and also had 2 away from cougar, and I still didn't get it until the last couple rounds. Played this the first time with my 11 year old who afterwards said he would rather play Captain Sonar, and my mom who is not an intuitive logic gamer and still really enjoyed it, however she did accidentally tell me her rule in the beginning, but it helped me catch at the end when she didn't see one of the shack pieces. Overall it was easy to teach after I watched the video, so thank you for this play through! My 5 year old desperately wanted to play by himself, so it will be interesting to see if he can remember his rule and do it accurately.
Instead of cubes and circles I feel like ticks and crosses would be visually easier to see... I also felt like I would enjoy this but the visuals I find hard to follow.
i really love this game, but i would say about 80% of the games i've played some makes a mistake causing us to the game to go way longer than it normally would have.
It’s unfortunate because it’s a great game. This is why I switched the game out for The Search for Planet X. I like the spatial element of Cryptid better but you can’t mess up a whole game for everyone with SfPX.
Our theme music was written for our show by my brother Christopher Damerst. The complete theme is actually a little longer but not by much. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
@@boardgamegeek every time the theme comes on, my 2-yr old claps along and shouts "Game Night!" Then he says, "1 more???" Holding up a little finger... So we listen to it again then "1 more" a couple more times. It is a loved theme song.
So the clues are always the same for the chosen maps? For the map played in this video with 3 players...the clues are always the same...so does that mean replayability goes down i guess?
Yes, it's the same solution, so if you're able to memorize the exact map layout, the correct spot, and do it for every randomly-chosen card at every player count, then you've got the game beat! :)
For the cards, as @Temujin says you need to remember all of the little details which includes monuments etc. If you use the website, you can reuse the same map and give each players different clues. I think there was over 50 cards in the base game anyway, and if I recall the solution possibly changed based on the number of players but I can't remember if that is always true
I definitely need to find a group to play this with. Was only about ten minutes into the game when I had to grab a sheet of paper and start working through the list of possible rules. Didn't take much longer before I knew Lincoln's rule and had Dave and Nikki's down to two options each, but oddly enough I was only able to narrow it down that much because Lincoln's other possible rule wouldn't have had a single solution. Of course, then it got a bit frustrating that y'all kept making guesses that didn't give me any more information.
Oh, and as far as writing stuff down vs. going through the list... the main advantage I found in writing it down was simply being sure I checked the entire list. Turned out when I had done it mentally, I missed one of the two rules that could have been Nikki's at the time.
It is a bit annoying especially when you've paid for Premium, but they're relevant to the hobby and not too long or intrusive. I don't mind them too much.
John, this response is one I made to another comment. "We have never had any sponsorships on our show and resisted them for a long time. But this partnership is the best possible situation for us. They do not expect us to feature any specific games and want us to continue what we are doing. The only thing they want from us is to is to show how many sleeves are needed for the game, feature their products and show some ads. Our show has never made any profit other than the extremely small amount of money RUclips provides us from their random ads, that are infinitely more profitable for RUclips. We also are not monetizing GameNight videos so there should no longer be the random breaks RUclips inserts. Plus Gamegenic makes some amazing products. I hope you understand our situation." Also there will only ever be three per video so while they seem too frequent, it is only because these videos are shorter this week. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
Dizzula, I have already turned them waaaaay down. I have them set to be below our peak levels but since they have compressed music there is only so much I can do. Thanks for the note and for watching.-Lincoln
I don't really get the ask vs search thing. If the "punishment" for both is the same (placing a cube) why wouldn't you use search pretty much every single time (since you get more info potentially)? Seems like the only case where ask is better is if you want info from a specific player not sitting right after you (ie. clockwise since search asks them in order and dont continue on failure). In my mind search should have a bigger punishment for failure/guessing wrong.
The punishment for being wrong on a search is that you give a lot more information to everyone else. For an ask, you only give a no if you’re wrong, but with a search you start by giving a yes, and then there’s the possibility of other yeses until you hit a no or you win.
@@dettonator11 Huh? You cant get information without giving it to other players as well whether it's a search or ask, so that doesn't make sense to me. It still seems like you would want as much info as possible for the least amount of cubes (which equals you giving away part of your hidden info). Search can give you info from up to 3 players (in this case) while ask can only give you info from 1 player but both has the same risk of loosing a single cube of info. Furthermore search also gives you the chance each time used that you actually win the game (whether by luck or calculation).
@@martinaasandersen3775 I think on the ask, you don't have to actually ask where you think it can go. Because you don't put a disk down so all someone really knows is you're asking about that space.
I don't get this..you may as well Search every turn... because you get the same penalty of putting a cube down if wrong. Not sure, unless I missed something.
You have to place a disc on the hex you’re searching in. Meaning you can only search in spots that fit your rule. So you give valuable information away to your opponents. Whereas if you question a player, you can purposely question a spot that doesn’t fit your rule but you think might fit theirs - learning info about them but keeping your own secrets close to the chest.
You can also get info from a specific player. If you search, you definitely get an answer from the next person, but might not get info from any other player. I’d imaging in 4 player that would be even more important.
Is there a cooperative variant for this game? I felt like it would work better as a cooperative game like Decorum. And maybe if a player runs out of a type of piece, the game is lost.
Mechanically I think this game looks great. I'd definitely like to play it... but, it's so darn ugly. Generic tokens, bland board art.. and there really aren't enough tokens for each player. For $45 I expect a bit more production quality from my games. With some custom tokens and better visual design of the boards, this game could have really thrived I think. Maybe they'll do a new edition some day.
I do not mind adds, but seriously, is Gamegenic trying to be as obnoxious as possible? The adds really don't fit with tone of the rest of the video. This is convincing me to not ever buy their products more than anything.
This game reminds me of Tobago, also a deduction game. Fun playthrough!

Yep. I did that … solving it one my first turn. It was awesome.
This was so good! I didn't guess any of their rules. I was thinking someone messed up, but nope! I was messing up 🤣

Need to try this one though...
This game looks great! I’m also drawn to it because I just like the concept that it is about cryptids even though they don’t feature haha.
Looks like fun, but players should not have had to reuse components before someone wins, so there should maybe be a larger supply of the cubes?
Miss you guys, and we love this game.
Such a good game. Makes your brain hurt in the best way!
I've got an "add a cube" is such a groaner it gave me a spit take. HA HA HA!
Thanks for the video - I’m in the same boat as Lincoln, there’s something about this puzzle that gets past me.
Here? There? ... No?
I thought I had the rule figured out right at the beginning of the game but I totally didn't guess.
Was fun watching this.
I added more copies of the game pieces
Because we used to runout of pieces In our games
In my brain, if it is within 3 spaces, it is including the 2 and 1 spaces in between. am i wrong?
I think your right and I think Lincoln might have misplaced one of his discs because of that?
I didn't realise or missed that the rules were listed so you could test them
It is super helpful tho to have the card sleeve sizes on screen. Definitely a plus if you plan on purchasing a particular game
Looks like Minesweeper: The Board Game. I want to try it
