1:37:40 if you have clank in your play area it means you've already played it so it's +1 clank. Trashing from your hand would mean you can get rid of it *before* playing into play area and generating clank (that's why later in the game with more complex cards, order of play is important).
Thank you all for a wonderful GameNight 2022! Super neat that more of you get to teach games here - though we will always be a bit partial to the unbeatable Aaron-Dave combo ;)
Everybody down on the poor Curator (an hour and ten minutes in, anyway), but she’s a superior Explore! She does exactly the same thing, but is also worth two points! Even without the extra card draws later, she’s totally worth it.
Thoroughly enjoyed playing this last weekend (and it's pretty straightforward)....watching to see if we messed anything up! Also great to see a familiar face in the teaching role!
Yeah! Looks like a Clank! game I'm going to want. It's kinda like Catan where you can randomize the board for some varied play. Although I probably would have liked game tiles as a side expansion. Great job explaining the game and actually made me realize I might have messed up some rules on the OG game.
Okay, Dire Wolf, let's maybe mix it up. How about a retheme on this set in a haunted house? Maybe take the individual tiles mechanic seen in 'Catacombs' so you can set it up sort of like "Betrayal at House on the Hill" (or just a boards broken up into different floors). You can call it "Creak" for when the old floors creak under your feet, alerting a ghost/poltergeist/demon! I would buy that game right now! In the meantime I think I'll go out a get a copy of 'Catacombs'.
When Niki got knocked out, from that point on the number of cubes pulled each time should have been 5, not 4. Also at 2:49:02, Deborah shouldn't haven't added any clank for defeating the skeleton as she had the Rose Quartz card that is -2 clank.
Was VERY surprised when you found the dragon error, that the immediate ret-con wasn't: we did all the others wrong, so we'll do this one wrong and NOT pull the extra! (Then do them right going forward.) Or even farther I would have pushed to reduce the damage by all the other attacks we thought we had added extras too, which was 2, maybe 3? But meh...;-) I thought Deborah SHOULD have gone a new route instead of following Lincoln through the caves, but she lucked out to get as far as she did in the one turn.
A little surprised to look over and see after about 1 hour (30 minutes of play) there are only 4 tiles in play on the table! I haven't been following, but that seems slower than I expected ;) Still not sure if I would eventually buy this or original Clank.
Enjoyed the play through. Trying out Clank Catcombs tonight for the first time, will see if the family and I prefer it to Clank in Space. Thinking there is room for both.
Everyone was so mean to the curator. At worst, she's an explore that's worth points. And when you're trying to escape, she can get you an extra action.
I love clank catacombs. It has so much replay value and I can’t wait for some expansions. I just think there’s wayyyy to many crystal caves. I would get so many boots and could use one or two and have to stop.
I still love the static boards from regular Clank! and will continue to play them, but Catacombs is my favorite way to play because of the exploring/variable board each game. Yay for Deborah teaching! Payoff is an awesome card when it comes up in initial row like that. Edit: Looks like you forgot to put the starting Clank cubes in at the beginning. :)
Payoff is indeed an amazing card to kickstart into stronger cards, it is especially strong since it seems like they repeatedly forget they have to trash it upon play.. I'd recommend to always separate the cards you play so you don't obscure the card effects.
Is it fine to keep walking after a teleport in catacombs? Cause in Clank in space you feel dizzy afterwards and cannot use anymore boots. Thanks for the feedback in advance 😁 Cheers, Benjamin
I don't think so. you have to place the tile down before you move down a path but you probably do have to indicate that you are moving into a new area and have to stick with that decision.
I traded this one. I like deck building when it's strategically directed. Clank in space was more interesting and fun for me but I can see people liking this.
Were you playing with a house rule or variant that increased the number of cubes drawn based the number of dragon symbols in the dungeon row? Normally you only draw cubes based on the dragon rage track. There are cards that increase the number drawn but it is a separate ability of the card that is not tied to the dragon symbols.
@@blessedexchequer no worries. I noticed in the subtitles it stated the dragon on the cards doesn't require an additional cube pull and I kept thinking, "Deborah will surely pick up on this!" She did after one of the dungeon cards came out with the actual text stating to pull an extra cube. I'm somewhat of a rules stickler so I'm prone to pick up on these things 🤣

I really like the tiles...it really adds an element of replay compared to the static Clank board. I never really though of base Clank as a Dominion-like game, I mean, there's deck building, but the board kind of takes me out of that traditional standard deck-building type of game. THIS version, because you spend so much time and energy getting cards and the board is slowly growing as you play, it feels much more like Dominion...or Dominion with a Dungeon Crawl mechanism. This is the first Clank game I might actually consider getting (I like the tile-board that much).
Personally I was hoping the board would be more like Clank in Space, providing variety without the randomness of tiles added to the randomness of cards. Of all the Clanks so far Clank Legacy is my ultimate favourite and I'm sorely tempted to buy another copy for a new group of friends to enjoy.
Did the gang ever go back to Clank! Legacy? They seemed to be considering continuing the campaign, but then only got to play the first game before the pandemic hit. 😕
is that an actual dedicated card holder or something you adapted to hold the cards to pull from? I would love to get one of those for this and my original Clank.

@@boardgamegeek Thank you so much! I will have to look into getting one. I have so many deck storage solution but can you really have enough. Or too many games? :-) I am going to look into the component holder too. Though that I did see advertised as Gamegenic.
I too saw that there was no clank! placed at the start of the game. Others stuff I saw: When you trash a card that is in your play area or discard that does not include your hand. You must first play the card, stumble, then you can trash it. You cannot leave the crystal caves with boots unless you have a card that says so. You may, however, teleport out of the crystal cave. When the tile that contains an artifact is revealed, you place the artifact face up so everyone knows what it is. The artifacts are in order from lowest to highest anyway. There are tiles that have artifact and plus symbol (or two) and then you place an artifact one or two higher in value.
I can’t help but wonder if the “mistake” on the dragon icons/increased dragon attack strength was surreptitiously intentional. I mean, the game/video length would have been a fair bit longer… plus, they are usually pretty good with rules, especially ones that are foundational to the game. This one seems to be an outlier, because there were several other mistakes made: didn’t add the clank at the start, Deborah should not have been able, as artifacts only are placed on the board when the tile is revealed, not if you move into a space where a previously claimed artifact was… Regardless, I always love your content. I picked this game up in December at PAX unplugged and love it.
OH wow, did they change the scoring? I played aquisitions inc and I thought if you died in the depths you don't get the artifact bonus and that's it. Seems like in the new version your score gets zeroed if you're KO in the depths?
The rage track clearly shows 2 or 3 cubes, and i do not see cards with DANGER! on it for extra cubes. Why are there being pulled 5 cubes?? Am i missing something?

Big error you made at the beginning of the game are the first player must place 3 clank cubes in the Clank area second 2 clank cubes and so on. You didn't do that.
I think the game got slowed down because they overdrew cubes most of the game, people getting hurt faster and this having to play more protective. But I agree, this shouldnt be a 2,5 hour game even when you take extra time into account because of doing it for a video. There seems to be quite a bit of downtime, and you can't even play out your next turn because the market can change, and often you end up drawing cards during your turn.
Yeah i'm not sure if the market didn't have a lot of movement or of movement just doesnt exist. I wish they would of gone through the draw pile to see if 80% of those left had movement, otherwise its a very slow progression. But to be fair the original clank boards only had like 5 rooms in depth and 3 rooms on the surface. So the ability to create more can make you stall longer
I find it pretty fun with my casual gamers. I think it only slows down when a player is indecisive on what to do with the options they have. Plus it looks like they have a lot more rooms and caves that can slow you down. I like the deck builder crossed with board game concept.

Its going to get faster after the first playtrough
Interesting game
