    2024 Grand Highlander is all-new for Toyota, as the name suggests it's bigger than the Highlander and slots beneath the larger Sequoia. The Grand Highlander shares powertrains with its namesake while borrowing a performance-oriented turbocharged hybrid from the Lexus RX and Toyota Crown. We share our first impressions of the Grand Highlander, its driving dynamics, the HybridMAX engine, controls, and if the bigger size will help Toyota to stave off competition from the redesigned Honda Pilot and the new Mazda CX-90, as well as against current formidable competition from the Hyundai Palisade and Kia Telluride. Also, we discuss whether removing doors on a Jeep Wrangler or the Ford Bronco is safe.

    For most people, the Grand Highlander with the regular hybrid is the best option. 34 mpg combined is amazing for a vehicle this size.

    I would agree, we have a growing family and thought the GH would work. Went to the dealer and check out the interior space. We realize Sienna is still the most convenient for a family that need a lot of space. GH is good for everything else.

    My wife went kicking and screaming into a Toyota Sienna in January of 2016 when we had our 4th kid. We tried every three row SUV on the market at the time and nothing worked with 3 kids in car seats except the van. We've spent the last two years looking to replace the van now that the kids are all out of car seats with an SUV. We put two restrictions on ourselves. It had to be significantly more fuel efficient and it had to not be much of a compromise over the van, after trying out everything we put an order in for a grand Highlander hybrid limited last week. Just wish it was a PHEV.

    Does CR recommend Grand Highlander over a Honda Pilot? Which does CR prefer and why? I personally like the GH but hate the V4-turbo engine (small engine). I like the Pilot and it has the V6 engine but it's a belt vs chain timing belt. I don't want a hybrid system because battery wears down over time and it's not good for a battery to sit for long periods of time. Your thoughts would be appreciated....thanks

    I ordered a 2025 Limited gas only as we need the room to carry giant scale model airplanes (25 lb) but 88" longish. I measured this one myself to make sure they fit and we are anticipating it coming in next fall. Excited after we drove it and have no issues with power. Actually we currently have a 2021 V6 Highlander Platinum and I couldn't have told you what motor was in the Grand Highlander by driving it. We didn't put the hammer down at all but found it smooth and just fine for the two of us.

    It would be nice to have the option to downsize wheels for better fuel economy and cheaper tire sizes. Like honestly i would never use tires over 18in in diameter. Tires get crazy expensive. Its about a 10-30% higher cost from a 20in vs an 18in tire.

    • @mrvoyagerm
      @mrvoyagerm 5 месяцев назад

      I could be wrong but it looks to me like the 18" rims have a larger sidewall and the 20" rims smaller. I suggest the outside diameter might be the same on both judging by the space left in the fender well on both tires.

    My grand highlander hybrid max is almost stalling on some turns, the tranny would shake and it takes a bit for power to kick in. It's hard to replicate. I brought my car in also because the power would surge on some acceleration. Toyota tried to update the software but it failed up update so they ended up resetting the ECU so the car is working as it should until it relearns my driving habits and will power surge again. I love the car though so dont get me wrong. It's a major upgrade from the RAV4 with space, power, and comfort!

    Toyota since 1984 and was 1000% jacked about this model. Finally plenty of room (Sequoiaish), safety, fuel efficient, not to mention Toyota last forever reliability. Went to a show room today and sat in the driver seat, much very much to my regret Toyota blew it!!! The front seats especially the driver is shoe horned in, I can spread out more in my base 2017 Rav and be extremely comfortable or our 2005 Honda crv for that matter. But the new model Rav and now regrettably this beautiful Grand Highlander the front seats are very compromised due to the large console. Could you not find 3-4 inches space for someone to not sit with their legs so close it's uncomfortable for your giblets. You are forcing me to a honda pilot or Chevy Tahoe. a very sad day. Please please I beg you correct this travesty.

    Toyota should’ve just made the regular Highlander a bit bigger like Honda did with the Pilot. While Honda reintroduced the Passport as the smaller more off-road option, Toyota already has the 4Runner for that. This new vehicle seems like an afterthought and just Toyota trying to cash-in on what is essentially a stretched RAV4.

Also why would Toyota follow honda with thier pilot when the company who made most conquest sells was Hyundai Kia. Consider this the current highlander is number 1 in it's class. The parking lots are tucked full of ever bigger vehicles, painted all in boring metallic shades of red, gray, sometimes black, sometimes white. Where is the originality, the spontaneity, and the simplicity of a car, a station wagon, or a boxy utility?
