@@twystedhumour You are saying that you would prefer a Hyundai over a Toyota because Toyota happened to make a responsible decision on one of their vehicles? The comment aged just fine. Your understanding of the auto industry is what is deficient here. Hyundai let's their customers sink. They've proven it over and over (and over!) again. If you think you are going to buy a car from any automaker (Toyota included) and not have the potential for an issue or a recall, then you'd better buy some running shoes.
I almost put an order in for a GH Platinum Hybrid but the interior compared to 24 Palisade Calligraphy was a big let down for me. It is unforgiving to have hard touch cheap plastic materials everywhere in a suv that’s more than $60,000. Calligraphy trim, especially with the beige interior was above and beyond my expectations. Ended up getting one.
My wife has a palisade Calligraphy, which is superbly comfortable with the cushion thigh extender. And of course, it was MSRP, unlike the rip-off Toyota dealers. Even if you lease a GH, it would be like walking into the showroom with a carrier bag filled with five grand. You'll never see it again.
I just bought the 2024 Highlander Limited gas model. $ 4,000 off MSRP with just a few option that I wanted. Roof rack with crossbars. I had the 2021 Venza. Trouble free but the whining CVT gets old. Large grill got old. No storage at all got old. Temperatures below 32 dropped mpg from 40 to 25. Buyers don’t know about that.
We just bought a GH and didn’t pay over msrp. We had a 22 Palisade for the last two years and traded it in because we realized you get what you pay for and it was not going to be a reliable car. There is no comparison in quality between the two vehicles. So glad we switched. I hope your wife has no issues with hers but prepare yourself

Echoing some of the comments: You are presenting the Palisade as being awful at gas mileage wise(which is half true, is on par with the competition's V6s) however the GH Hybrid version costs a lot more than the Palisade and one may wonder if the extra cost(not including the dealer markups) is always a good choice since you will be recouping those costs in time(years) and if you don't do a lot of commute it doesn't make sense.Plus for such a big car 2.4L seems underpowered especially if you plan on towing. Overall this comparison is not necessarily fair or accurate.I do not own any of these models but just for the sake of accuracy
Why are you using shifters with an automatic? Palisade is better looking and I like the slightly smaller size better too. I’m not happy with Toyota going turbo. I have an older regular highlander with the beloved V6.
First of all. Your comparing XRT to much isn’t the loaded Palisade. The calligraphy offers exclusive options which the grand highlander doesn’t including the blind spot monitor camera on left and right side mirrors…. Also advance self park, massage drivers seat. And I guess in America it also offfers heated 3rd row seating. I don’t think this review was an actual review……. The advance technology that is behind hyundai in safety is amazing…. I highly suggest you deep dive feature, benefit wise before reviewing. The space isn’t a HUGE difference compared to the highlander. You have charging ports throughout the palisade… moonroof and sunroof… suede inner liner… nappa leather… heated and ventilated seats in the front and middle row! And so much more.
I dont know where you get your info - we bought a GH platinum Hybrid Max in September, perhaps Toyota made this GH especially for me as I have the blind spot monitor on both sides, self park, and to get all the safety features in the Palisade you have to go to top trim which is almost as much as the GH. Hyundai? Done with at 100-150K miles. Toyota? Good for 300K+ miles. We bought our GH at MSRP AND got a lot of money for our trade ins (2016 Tacoma, 2017 Rav4 Hybrid), almost making up for the price of the GH
Both cars are super comfortable at the NY auto show. Hyundai car feels more innovative/sleek and "untested" - buy if planning to keep for 5 years or less. GH is more boring but true and test - buy if planning to keep to 10 plus years. Two different types of buyers.
Terrible biased review to make the Grand Highlander looks better than the Palisade by comparing it with a higher trim vs mid trim Palisade. Cargurus knows exactly what they are doing. Just 15 secs in the video and I know the Grand Highlander will come on top as the winner.
I'm still on course to buy a Palisade, even after this video. You can get the top of the line version of the Palisade for tens of thousands less than the GH with the Hybrid Max engine (which would be its biggest advantage over the Palisade). GH does offer more room, though. But, at the end of the day, are you willing to give up all that extra savings, comfort, features, and looks for what will be a bigger, less comfortable, bland, vehicle? I say no, and I *LOVE* Toyotas. If the GH could come even close to fit and finish at the same price, I'd jump on it. Unfortunately, it's basically paying a big premium for more room and some gas savings.
We just traded in our 22 Palisade for the GH hybrid. Best decision for us as we had problems with the Palisade (and we aren’t alone… lots of problems). There is no comparison in the quality between the two vehicles. There is a reason the palisade is cheaper.
@@skhwj For us it was an engine issue (at 7k miles). Google pailisade issues and you’ll see problems with paint and trim, engine valve springs, shocks, tow hitch, side curtain airbags and windshield wipers. Most newly released cars have some issues (grand highlander is no exception) but the palisade seems to have more than normal
We test drove both today, the Palisade hands down! The Toyota felt like we were in a station wagon, the seats have a different contour, the Palisade was really quiet and the interior was beautiful, plus the free maintenance for 3 years and huge warranty.
Be careful. The palisade fools you at first. We had one for two years and just traded it in for the GH hybrid because of issues. It’s just not a reliable car long term. Do your research on their engine problems. Our GH came with a lifetime power train warranty from the large national dealership chain we bought ours from. We are so glad we made the switch because we can feel the quality difference
You talk about how great the top level GH is during the drive and how it wins w all better handling and these features that the mid level Palisade wouldn’t have. The whole drive you speak about how much better the GH is. Then right at the end, 20:45, you just quickly mention the Palisade has a better overall feel as a passing comment. Definite bias
For that one, you forgot to check traverse for space. They are the first three row suv with 98+ folding two rows. So be careful in making an absolute claim
This is why I picked the Telluride over the highlander (not grand) in 2021 the EX model had more bells and whistles than a highlander that would cost more for less. Will be about to hit 4yrs with it in Feb and no issues.
I like the MDX for the sportiness look and drive, but the grand highlander for the space, gas economy and usability. Tough choice… if pilot had a hybrid I’d go with that over all the above.
It really comes down to use case. Unfortunately, the GH is on op ship die to the airbag issue, but it’s our preference-and it’s because of that 98 cubic feet of total storage, for our 3 big dogs. We’ve owned two Toyotas, and a Lexus, there’s just nothing better. Kinda of ironic to say that with the vehicle on stop sale, but recalls are pretty normal, it’s a brand new vehicle, and it’s Toyota. We’ve driven all the comp-the palisade, the telluride, the ascent, the vw, the pilot and the 4Runner. We can’t get past the carbo space.
On 12:48 he lie about the Toyota having lane changing assist that fixture only comes in the top trims of the palisade and is not offered on the Toyota at all. Also a note you must pay for internet to use the hands free safety system. I think both cars are good but this review is full off mistakes and really biased towards Toyota. Y can at least insert stock images from the calligraphy interior of the palisade to let the viewer see the different layouts and infotainment systems that machetes the Toyota trim level. And why didn’t add the price of the fully loaded model off both for comparison. This is not a well made video comparing both cars.
This video totally convinced me that Toyota is.......NOPE...NOPE....I still prefer the hyundai; masculine aesthetics, more tech, good space, and better price . Not even close. Everything you credited the toyota with are attributes the target audience wouldn't care for .

Don't care how "reliable" or "better deppreciation" toyotas has. Nothing justifies paying $7K+ extra for a comparably equipped Toyota. Currently looking at a large amount of vehicles across all Asian brands, and categories. I really like the new Crown Signia, but I need the third row, the normal Highlander I feel for the price is not the best but I do not like the Grand Highlander either. The best available powertrain is the 2.5 Hybrid, tbh I truly believe this class needs a V6 Hybrid. But you can only get a Platinum with the Hybrid Max or the Gas only which are both 2.4 Turbo's which I do not like the use of Turbo's on normal cars. That turbocharger means more maintenance and repairs in the future. So you will miss some good features if you stick with the 2.5 Hybrid. The 360 camera and panoramic roof are extra options, all in you are at $54.8K MSRP, which no Toyota dealer will sell to you at that price. To be fair the Palisade and it's sister the Telluride will also have market adjustments. But the tech is far superior on the Hyundai, more kit for the money, and you get a V6 that has been proven to be solid. My gripe with the Palisade is no hybrid option, so the fuel economy is the downside. Also the JBL system is really horrible, overall Toyota is riding on it's brand name for this vehicle, and it works because people believe the Toyota badge means quality. But I would not be buying any Toyota built in the U.S, similar with Hyundai. The Grand Highlander is made in Indiana, the same facility where the faulty Twin Turbo Tundra's are coming from, the Palisade is coming from Ulsan, South Korea. I am no Toyota hater, I recommend a ton of Toyota's to people, just that this is not one of them. Still on the search though, but if I had to buy something right now it would be the Palisade.
I'm 6'4", so when you say "larger in every way", what about the "less headroom" and "2.5" less leg room"? Hmmm ... fact check time. I don't have kids and will likely never use the 3rd row, so I'm only even considering these vehicles for driver space and comfort. Did you get compensated by T?
The Grand Highlander is horrid for tall people! The center console wall digs into your right gas leg thigh, especially if you are tall. Also, the cheap sliding cover on the center console is SO THIN I am afraid my elbow will go right thru it and it slides back if you lean on it. It should be a solid lift lid, not a cheap plastic slide cover!

It's actually kinda insane how much of a propaganda review this is for Toyota. He very clearly ignored tons of Palisade features that make it far more functional and upscale-feeling than the Grand Highlander. As somebody who has sat in both and talked to tons of other people who have to, I've literally never spoken with somebody who felt like the GH felt more upscale than the Palisade. I literally spent a split second in the GH before I felt like I got teleported back to 2015. Inside the Grand Hylander looks cheap, the Palisade is much more luxurious.
It’s the opposite. We just traded in our Palisade after two years for a GH hybrid. The palisade is not a good quality vehicle
Fit and finish on GH is way better.
actually it visually seems nice, they're faking the material looks for the pallisade. GH actually has more leather and better padded details
If you are comparing a top of the line Grand Highlander, shouldn’t you have used a Palisade Calligraphy. Not really fair comparison otherwise.
I could not watched this video and predicted the grand highlander would come up on top based on your thumbnail. The Palisade is still a great choice for value-minded auto consumers.
Unless you value reliability, then seems like a no-brainer for the Toyota.
You get what you pay for
Ahh we JUST purchased a Palisade XRT!! We were debating between the Palisade and Grand Highlander... wish I saw thus before we made our decision. However we are very happy with our Palisade at least! 😊
Both are great vehicles, I’m sure you’ll be very happy! If the comments here are any indication, both vehicles have many many fans!!
You needed a Cargurus RUclips video to know that you should have chosen the reliability of Toyota? How can people live under a rock and still watch RUclips?
@@ytj22 These new turbo engines are not as reliable as the old v6 in Tundras and Tacos, so who knows which will prove to be more reliable.
@@ytj22 This comment didn't age well, now that there's a stopsale on some Toyotas.
I just watched the only time anyone will ever see someone driving the Grand Highlander with transmission paddles.
@@paulstein9258 Those who know the fundamentals of hybrids or even fully Evs eventually learn about it.
@@oldageisdumb We don't do high miles so keeping our fingers crossed! I love Toyotas and have owned them in the past, but our local dealers are really greedy. Having said that, my wife likes the look of the Sienna, so you never know lol
@@johnnyboy2024-h6n Oh I agree that if they are asking over msrp that would be a big no for me. I even hate paying msrp. The dealership we got ours from didn’t go over and they offer a powertrain warranty good for as long as you own the vehicle which is awesome as we do like to keep our vehicles
Do these people know that, in fact, the volume behind the second row is more impressive than with also seats folded, if you look at the ratio...
i believe the calligraphy trim looks way better than the highlander platinum
Cliff is my favorite reviewer on this channel. Keep it up!
You overlooked one huge factor. You can't get a a Grand Highlander without waiting for months.
We did
@@oldageisdumb you are lucky.
Toyota keeps making these appliances no style or personality smh
And runs well after 15-20 years. For some, that’s more than enough.
Why are you using shifters with an automatic? Palisade is better looking and I like the slightly smaller size better too. I’m not happy with Toyota going turbo. I have an older regular highlander with the beloved V6.
My atlas has almost the same amount of cargo space as the Grand Highlander. 97 vs 98
They are roomy/airy inside for sure. I bought one for my sister and her family about about 7 months ago. They love it.
They should have tested against the Calligraphy and the Platinum Hybridmax with 400lbs torque and 362HP. I do like Hyundai's interior better though.
@@oldageisdumbwhat problems?
@@skhwj For us it was an engine issue (at 7k miles). Google pailisade issues and you’ll see problems with paint and trim, engine valve springs, shocks, tow hitch, side curtain airbags and windshield wipers. Most newly released cars have some issues (grand highlander is no exception) but the palisade seems to have more than normal
Still palisade wins… comfort wise palisade any day
How does the Palisade really do for towing? Can the transmission handle loads in the mountains when pulling a trailer?
I would DEFINITELY not use it for towing a trailer
Why knowingly compare the lowest trim level on the palisade to the platinum on the gh it’s like u want the gh to seem better but still lost
He is still right tho, tho, besides the Traverse and Atlas, you would need an american full-size truck based SUV to get similar numbers or more
Aren't you comparing apples to oranges? A better Comparision would be 2025 Traverse and the Grand Highlander. Maybe you should try again?
Traverse? I guess if you like to spend a lot of time at the repair shop
This is why I picked the Telluride over the highlander (not grand) in 2021 the EX model had more bells and whistles than a highlander that would cost more for less. Will be about to hit 4yrs with it in Feb and no issues.
I want the grand highlander!
Why do I keep seeing that Palisade doesn't have wireless apple careplay or android auto. I own a 2021 and I use it wirelessly all the time....
What about the engine reliability? The Palisade has major engine issues and if a person in investing in a 3 row vehicle, you want quality.
100k powertrain warranty!
@@mwp1088 doesn't matter having a 100k powertrain warranty. It's a know fact that both Hyundai and Kia don't always stand behind their warranties.
I like the MDX for the sportiness look and drive, but the grand highlander for the space, gas economy and usability. Tough choice… if pilot had a hybrid I’d go with that over all the above.
“Egress” means going outwards. “Ingress” means going into.
When you know no matter what you will recommend the Highlander over the Palisade, why do you compare them?
"the off-road look without the off-road performance" 😂
This man just sounds like he owns a great highlander and hates palisade
Thank you so much! This really helps.
5:35 7:13 Wait, is it egress or ingress in this case?
Final verdict is Toyota resale value and reliability is what blows Hyundai out of the water.
Yeah I saw that too the grand highlander is not very good vs the competition
I agree. This is a very bias comparison
This video totally convinced me that Toyota is.......NOPE...NOPE....I still prefer the hyundai; masculine aesthetics, more tech, good space, and better price . Not even close. Everything you credited the toyota with are attributes the target audience wouldn't care for .
The hybrid system used by Hyundai Motors also uses technology that Toyota has made available to the public free of charge, just like other companies, so it is not possible to surpass Toyota in terms of engines just by imitating it.
Since Hyundai hired a European designer, the interior and exterior have improved, but the engine is on par with Asian cars from China and India.
10 year 100k warranty. If u dont drive alot 10 years is a long time and will be paid off at that point. Best warranty period.
The Grand Highlander is a big vehicle, you look so tinny standing next to it.
Don't care how "reliable" or "better deppreciation" toyotas has. Nothing justifies paying $7K+ extra for a comparably equipped Toyota. Besides, Hyundai's reliability and deppreciations has improved significantly in the last decade or so. Nothing against toyota, i have owned a couple in the past, but Toyota is overpriced, overhyped..
Palisade looks small and gay.

This guy has to work for Toyota, how do you compare a top trim Highlander to a Mid trim Palisade?? Calligraphy eats up the Platinum when it comes to luxury, stop the fake comparisons. And then you had the nerve to say the interface is simpler than the Palisade which could be a good thing LOL. The technology isn't even close Palisade crushes that dated Toyota screen
5:35 wait, is it egress or ingress in this case?
Ingress!!!!

I’ll take the true V6 that’s actually a V6 not a turbo four or a six cylinder that shuts off three cylinders for me it’s the Hyundai
One lasts 150,000 miles, another 300,000.
No! Your question should be “you want reliable, or unreliable?” Or may be “great true resale value or inflated value?”
Hyundai palisade and Kia Telluride don’t have hybrid model
That is making me sad
Even they have hybrid model I thought about purchase
When do they start sell hybrid model ?
There’s only one choice which is the GH strictly based on reliability. Toyota reliability is much higher than the Hyundai Palisades
You can make a cheaper car by lowering the quality, or you can spend money to change the interior design, but I think BYD is the only one that has the potential to surpass Toyota in terms of hybrid engines, but Toyota is currently in the lead. is.
I think it has an advantage over F22 and F16.
Toyota is now almost impossible to buy and markup are crazy.

As somebody who has sat in both and talked to tons of other people who have to, I've literally never spoken with somebody who felt like the GH felt more upscale than the Palisade.
I literally spent a split second in the GH before I felt like I got teleported back to 2015. And let's not forget the tremendously noticeable difference in leg and shoulder room in the driver's seat, which he played down a ton.
